[Bug 577683] [NEW] tomcat6 directory structure broken
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomcat6 For whatever reason, the tomcat6 install in Lucid (and I think previous distros) is divided among /usr/share/tomcat6 and etc/tomcat6. However, the necessary symlink is not present to allow Tomcat to access conf files where it expects them to be, usr/share/tomcat6/conf. Also, the /logs folder doesn't exist, and thus will generate an error on startup unless the user creates this folder. If there is a compelling reason not to honor the file-structure that the Apache.org distribution of Tomcat uses, then at least the links and folders should be put in place to allow Tomcat to start successfully and function out of the box, without forcing the user to resort to using sudo privileges to fix it by hand. ** Affects: tomcat6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- tomcat6 directory structure broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to tomcat6 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 577693] [NEW] squid restart fails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: squid Any method of restarting squid fails to restart it. Such as: u...@scrap:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/squid restart [sudo] password for user: Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8) utility, e.g. service squid restart Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the restart(8) utility, e.g. restart squid restart: Job failed to restart = u...@scrap:~$ sudo service squid restart [sudo] password for user: restart: Job failed to restart === u...@scrap:~$ sudo restart squid restart: Job failed to restart == After a while, a start using any of these methods works fine. I'm assuming the root problem is that squid takes considerable time to shut down; in the previous init system, /etc/init.d/squid stop would not return until squid had exited. The new behavior of returning immediately is quite desirable in the effort to speed suspend and shutdown times, but I think restart is still just implemented by stop immediately followed by a start. If the current stop behavior is retained, I would guess restart, instead of being stop then start, will have to have a check for pid exit placed into it. squid shutdowns are on the order of 10s of seconds so if this involves polling I would check every second at the most. Find attached my squid.conf, in case there's some configuration workaround... [Bug 516249] Re: Please merge hdparm 9.27-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
This bug was fixed in the package hdparm - 9.27-2ubuntu1 --- hdparm (9.27-2ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #516249); remaining changes: + debian/control: - Do not depend on lsb-base (we no longer use init script) - Add Homepage - Add Breaks on old udev - Bump debhelper depends for dh_installudev changes - Recommend powermgmt-base, so we can use on_ac_power to detect if we're on battery. - declare a Breaks: on pm-utils ( 1.2.5-2ubuntu8), due to the change of the hdparm-functions API. - Replace pm-utils versions which shipped that script. + debian/hdparm.install: - Use hpdarm.udev instead of .rules - move hdparm-functions to /lib/hdparm. + debian/hpdarm.udev: - refactor to use the above functions instead of embedding a parser. + debian/hpdarm.dirs: - Drop unused /etc/udev/rules.d, add lib/udev for our udev-script + debian/rules, debian/hdparm.udev-script: - Install udev-script, drop init file stuff - Pass --priority=85 to dh_installudev + debian/hdparm.postinst: The transitional code to create /etc/udev/rules.d/z60_hdparm.rules also got wrongly executed on new installs, leaving a broken symlink behind. However, we do not need this in the first place, so just throw away the code completely. + debian/hdparm.preinst: Remove broken symlink on upgrade. + Add a new option to hdparm.conf, apm_battery, which is used in place of apm when we detect that we're on battery power. + debian/hdparm.udev-script, debian/hdparm.init: - only use the 'apm' setting when we're not on battery; when we are on battery, apply the separate 'apm_battery' setting. - Don't call hdparm -f for every drive; no clear rationale was ever given for doing this, and doing so slows down hard drive access at boot time. - also don't call sync... + debian/hdparm-functions: - break out a barebones parser for /etc/hdparm.conf and install it to /usr/lib/pm-utils, for use in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/95hdparm-apm. - refactor so that it can be used by the udev script as well - drop handling of command_line here - we shouldn't be running this for every hard drive and every power event, this should be supported only by an init script (if at all) - Don't apply default APM policy to Firewire or USB devices when running from udev (LP: #515023, #548513). - Fetch ID_PATH from 'udevadm info' if it isn't already set in the environment (LP: #567182). - Factor Firewire/USB check out into a new hdparm_try_apm function. + Add debian/95hdparm-apm: - pm-utils script to adjust hard drive APM settings after resuming. This was previously shipped in pm-utils, but is more appropriate here (see /usr/share/doc/pm-utils/README.distributions). - Skip Firewire and USB devices. hdparm (9.27-2) unstable; urgency=low * Stop unconditionally stripping hdparm during build (closes: #568774) hdparm (9.27-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream version -- Benjamin Drung bdr...@ubuntu.com Fri, 07 May 2010 11:39:54 +0200 ** Changed in: hdparm (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- Please merge hdparm 9.27-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 577298] [NEW] search on text selection goes to wolfram not google
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Ever since I tried a couple of searches on wolfram alpha, firefox does not use google as the search engine to search on selected text in a browser page. [Bug 577297] [NEW] same icon whether connected or not
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I'm using network-manager with DSL. My DSL connection is rather unreliable, so it disconnects or refuses to connect relatively often. A major feature of network-manager for me is that it attempts to reconnect automatically, another one is that it displays me whether the connection works right now thanks to its icon. that second feature stopped working in 10.04. Now the icon of network- manager is the same whether i'm in fact online or not. i do get a notification that the connection was lost, so network-manager knows that i'm now offline, but the icon stays the same. i don't know if it's a problem of the icon set (Humanity) or of network- manager. i do have besides the DSL connection also a second network card for the local area connection. that second connection is always working. maybe the network-manager icon is showing me the status of that second connection, but if that is the case, it really makes no sense, it should show me the status of the connection bridging me to internet. [Bug 575465] Re: unable to use mouse buttons to trigger events in mangler
The way Mangler detects mouse button presses is by polling the state of the mouse. With most mouses, polling the master pointer will return the state of the slave device. This problem seems to be limited to Logitech wireless mice. Basically we're doing this: dev = XOpenDevice(GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY(rootwin), xdev[ctr].id); xds = (XDeviceState *)XQueryDeviceState(GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY(rootwin), dev); xbs = (XButtonState*) xds-data; state = state bit; if ((xbs-buttons[byte] state) bit) { // byte and bit are the mouse button flags // button is pressed } I have tried other wireless mouse devices at my disposal and they seem to work fine. It is ONLY the logitech wireless mice (at least... that have been reported) -- unable to use mouse buttons to trigger events in mangler https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575465 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 577302] Re: ubiquity crashes with error: InstallStepError: Plugin usersetup failed with code 32
Here is the relevant portion of /var/log/syslog, although it doesn't seem to report much more than what was in the original error message. One thing of note are the lines: --- May 8 09:50:56 ubuntu user-setup: WARNING: [/dev/sda3] does not appear to be swap space, skipping. May 8 09:50:56 ubuntu user-setup: WARNING: There were no usable swap devices to be encrypted. Exiting. May 8 09:50:57 ubuntu user-setup: mount: mount point /dev/shm does not exist --- /dev/sda3 is definitely my swap partition. It may be worth noting that my older Kubuntu install (Hardy) encrypts the swap space. ** Attachment added: syslog http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48041209/syslog -- ubiquity crashes with error: InstallStepError: Plugin usersetup failed with code 32 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
