[Bug 581718] Re: dovecot upgrade purposely breaks working configuration

2010-05-19 Thread Ante Karamatić
1) it was working by pure luck; it was never suposed to work
2) actually, there is; look at comment #6
3) for a reason - security
4) ??

It's not ignoring the issue. It's just that you are using 'mailbox'
path, which starts with 'maildir:' as a home variable. That's just
wrong, weather dovecot works or not. Your home isn't
'maildir:/home/user'. It's '/home/user'.

If you think that is wrong and that 'home' should be
'maildir:/home/user', bring this to upstream cause Ubuntu will not
diverge on this one. It's just pointless. MDS doesn't set 'home'
attribute wrong. Look at it in your LDAP - I'm sure it's just
'/home/something'. Problem is that you linked 'mailbox' LDAP attribute
with 'home' variable in dovecot in dovecot-ldap.conf.

[Bug 551901] Re: likewise-open fails to join Windows 2000 SP4 domain

2010-05-19 Thread Thierry Carrez
Right, we are missing two pieces of information:

Someone familiar with the MIT SPNEGO code needs to look at the patch
and confirm it actually ignores MIC tokens only when MIC tokens are
optional. In particular, we want to confirm that if the mechanism
supports integrity and a MIC token would be required either through
request-mic state or because the acceptor didn't choose tho optimistic
mechanism, that a MIC token is still required.

-- This requires the patch to be discussed upstream, so it needs to be
submitted there

Confirm the impact is limited to Windows 2000 Server DCs

-- Which versions of DCs are impacted, so that we can set the
importance accordingly

[Bug 572388] Re: NC not available when auto registrating with second cloud present

2010-05-19 Thread Torsten Spindler
The first existing cloud was using the simple topology: one front-end,
one node controller. The cloud we installed first was made up of 3
machines: 1 CLC+Walrus, 1 CC+SC, 2 NC.

After installing the second cloud, both clouds had two clusters
registered against it. However, the output of euca-describe-
availability-zones verbose showed that the nodes were not registered
correctly against the CC of the second cloud. So we could never start an
instance in the second cloud.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-19 Thread Andrew Schulman
Can anyone else confirm that #20 does not work for them? That is, if
you do the following:

* remove AddressFamily inet from sshd_config
* add -4 after exec /usr/sbin/sshd in /etc/init/ssh/conf
* run

initctl reload-configuration
restart sshd

then do you still have this problem? Does

pgrep -lf sshd

show just /usr/sbin/sshd, or /usr/sbin/sshd -4?

[Bug 575162] Re: libvirt executing /usr/bin/qemu-kvm fails with Permission denied

2010-05-19 Thread nick
I have also now disabled apparmor and re-tested an install ,but exactly
the same error message appears, from the command line and using virt-
manager. I have tried this as a normal user and as root.

The file it is complaining about is /usr/bin/qemu-kvm ,which is a shell
script with contains the following

#!/bin/bash
kvm $@ -vga std

the kvm command is a symlink to qemu-system-x86_64 - even though this
system is an i386 ?

[Bug 571408] Re: libvirt-bin on latest lucid: heavy packet loss

2010-05-19 Thread Philipp A. Baer
Same strange bug here (Lucid, 2.6.32-22 | 2.6.32.13, libvirt-bin 0.7.5,
lxc | Xen, amd64, Intel i7) but unfortunately the trick doesn't work for
me, i.e. disabling and enabling ip forwarding. As soon as ip forwarding
is enabled, packets are dropped again arbitrarily.

Absolutely no supportive traces in syslog, dmesg, etc. tcpdump on icmp
packets only revealed that there no icmp packets are received in case of
packet loss... I'll try to downgrade to Karmic or switch over to Debian.

[Bug 582443] Re: Syslog socket missing from chroot.

2010-05-19 Thread Colin Watson
This is trivially reproducible without the need for configuration files.
We should not be wasting bug reporters' time asking them for unnecessary
information ...

This is a long-standing problem, but I would rather not give the
unprivileged network monitor direct access to syslog. Instead, any
logging it does should be directed through the privsep protocol. Not
trivial work.

[Bug 582376] Re: Samba (nmbd) fails to start at boot

2010-05-19 Thread Thierry Carrez
Raffaele: this is not an upstart project issue, that's why Scott marked
it as Invalid. That would rather be a bug in the samba upstart script
(samba package), if any.

The nmbd upstart script has start on (local-filesystems and net-device-
up IFACE!=lo) so it should be started when another interface goes up.
Could you confirm that nmbd doesn't start automatically once you log in
and wlan0 goes up ?

[Bug 582803] Re: samba doesn't work

2010-05-19 Thread Thierry Carrez
Could you check the status of the samba daemons:
$ sudo status nmbd
$ sudo status smbd

Please describe your scenario in more detail (samba is not working is
not enough, given how many different uses of samba are possible). Are
you sharing folders on workstations ? Setting up a samba file server ?
Accessing remotely-shared folders ?

Based on that, please provide the info requested at:

I've done a bit of an experiment and this is what I've found:

I triggered the issue by running:
$ sudo multipath -F
$ sudo multipath -v4
multiple times to replicate the issue.

I'd say that this is definitely a libvirt/udev bug based on the
behaviour. I believe that while Nick's suggestion in Comment #9 may
avoid the problem it looks like it's really a bandaid and it's possible
that other applications will trigger this issue via udev.

[Bug 582443] Re: Syslog socket missing from chroot.

2010-05-19 Thread Mike Mestnik
My strace revealed that sshd was indeed attempting to open this socket
and failing. I can see where if a user can inject into sshd that
injecting into rsyslog would be trial for this person.

I don't fully understand the ramifications of extra code lying around to do
things like:
1. Test for the existence of this socket.
   a. Act on config option enabling/disabling this.
2. Test for the existence of a /var/log folder or /var/log/auth.log file.
   a. Act on config option enabling/disabling this.

Though the current code might not have anything wrong with it, AFAIK.
If by default this file should not exist then there should be a config
option set to disable it's use, with instructions on enabling syslog for
testing.

Perhaps this should be something only done in testing and should be disable by
default.

If one wanted a filtering proxy to be vary strict about the messages passed
through this socket, then perhaps the solution is for sshd to provide such a
proxy. This way messages could be limited to only the messages sshd itself
would generate.

[Bug 579584] Re: setgid, setuid needed by /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu

2010-05-19 Thread Thomas Mayer
Hello,

I just updated from jaunty to karmic and then to lucid.
After that, I had the same problem and I could not boot my images any more.
Maybe apparmor was installed automatically and caused the problem when starting
a guest:

error: Failed to start domain 220_trxerdpd330_installtest
error: internal error unable to start guest: libvir: QEMU error : cannot change
to '114' group: Operation not permitted

after adding the following lines in /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt-qemu the problem
was solved:
capability setgid,
capability setuid,

The xml of my guest looks like this

domain type='kvm'
  name220_trxerdpd330_installtest/name
  uuid87cb0f4f-1d8f-4e8b-2a1f-4cda94aca1ec/uuid
  memory524288/memory
  currentMemory524288/currentMemory
  vcpu2/vcpu
  os
type arch='x86_64' machine='pc'hvm/type
boot dev='hd'/
  /os
  features
acpi/
apic/
pae/
  /features
  clock offset='utc'/
  on_poweroffdestroy/on_poweroff
  on_rebootrestart/on_reboot
  on_crashrestart/on_crash
  devices
emulator/usr/bin/kvm/emulator
disk type='file' device='disk'
  source file='/home/vms/220_trxerdpd330_installtest.img'/
  target dev='hda' bus='ide'/
/disk
disk type='file' device='cdrom'
  target dev='hdc' bus='ide'/
  readonly/
/disk
interface type='bridge'
  mac address='00:16:36:4e:bd:fb'/
  source bridge='br0'/
/interface
serial type='pty'
  source path='/dev/pts/4'/
  target port='0'/
/serial
console type='pty' tty='/dev/pts/4'
  source path='/dev/pts/4'/
  target port='0'/
/console
input type='mouse' bus='ps2'/
graphics type='vnc' port='6220' autoport='no' keymap='de'/
  /devices
/domain

When I mount a readonly cd image, I get similar errors:

I think there are two issues:
1. libvirt should not chown/chgrp/chmod images, especially not readonly images
2. apparmor profile should correspond to libvirt.

[Bug 582925] [NEW] OOo needs mount.cifs to default to nobrl if possible

2010-05-19 Thread Chris Cheney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

This doesn't affect me directly but I maintain OpenOffice.org for
Ubuntu.

It appears after getting numerous reports that OOo does not save
properly to cifs mounted filesystems that the cause is due to the fact
the 'nobrl' option is not being used. The root cause of this bug may be
a problem in OOo itself but according to the man page of mount.cifs it
sounds like it would probably be a good idea to use this option in any
case.

necessary for certain applications that break with cifs style
mandatory byte range locks (and most cifs servers do not yet
support requesting advisory byte range locks).

578402. Also upstream bug

[Bug 582925] Re: OOo needs mount.cifs to default to nobrl if possible

2010-05-19 Thread Chris Cheney
I found that we do have a way to disable locking entirely for cifs in
OOo that we can use if this bug isn't considered good or safe to fix by
enabling nobrl.

[Bug 579892] Re: libvirt should not use the MAC address assigned to tap devices/vnet interfaces by the TAP/TUN driver

2010-05-19 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
This is my network configuration:

auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth0
bridge_fd 9
bridge_hello 2
bridge_maxage 12
bridge_stp off
pre-up ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:01

The macaddress change is the workaround I'm using right now so I'm able to
avoid this issue.

The libvirt network configuration is disabled on this server, because
I'm using the main bridge and I don't want it to do NAT.

[Bug 582963] [NEW] SSL pass phrase dialog can't read input

2010-05-19 Thread cdenley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

When you configure apache to use a password-protected SSL key, you are
prompted to provide that password when apache starts. The PID file has
not been written at this point, so the init script won't work properly
until the password is provided or apache is killed manually. In ubuntu
10.04, when apache is started by upstart, it cannot read input from the
the console. You must login, kill it manually, then start apache. I was
able to workaround the problem using by adding stty sane to

[Bug 582970] Re: mysql-server won't start after update

2010-05-19 Thread Robert
I've found the cause of the problem. It was due to mysql not having
permissions to the appropriate directories in AppArmor. Changing them
fixed it.

Question: why did MySQL run before the update without the permissions?!?
(Another bug report, I think.)

[Bug 393430] Re: kvm: use PulseAudio instead of ALSA

KVM on lucid appears to prioritize pa:
#kvm -audio-help | grep ^Name
Name: pa
Name: alsa
Name: sdl
Name: oss
Name: none
Name: wav

but in effect alsa is still used... could it be related to the fact that
by default pulse-audio daemon is started per user, whereas kvm starts
the virtual machines before user has a chance to login?

I noticed that above, 10.55.55.8 is the address of the node controller.
In cases where the correct response is found, that token is the public
IP address of the node. That would explain why the search for a

Re: [Bug 582803] Re: samba doesn't work

2010-05-19 Thread Wayne
Thierry,

Sorry for the incomplete information - I'm new to this bug reporting
business.

Since submitting the fault report, I found that it wasn't a problem with
samba after all.

I have a desktop computer running Ubuntu that has some printers
connected and 4 laptop computers, 2 of which run windows XP and 2 with
vista. I use samba to backup laptop files to the Ubuntu box and for
sharing the printers to the laptops.

Prior to upgrading to 10.04, I could see the laptops via the
Places-Network-Windows Network.

After the upgrade, the Windows network was showing as empty.

After sending the error report, I found that I could connect to the
other laptops using Places-Connect to Server then in the dialogue box
typing in the name of the laptop. I can also access the computer using
firefox by typing the IP address as smb://ww.xx.yy.zz.

I sorted the problem out by following advice shown in this thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1028321

in particular, I changed smb.conf as shown here:

MOST IMPORTANT I change the way the priority for name resolution work
for samba:

name resolve order = wins hosts lmhosts bcast

It was originally in there as:

name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast

I restarted samba using restart smbd and everything was working.

I am assuming that the smb.conf file was changed during the upgrade to
10.04 as everything was working beforehand.

Apologies for mis-filing the bug, but I hope it will be of use to others
who may have a similar problem.

Regards,

Wayne

Here's the status outputs:

smbd start/running, process 677
wa...@shuttlex:~$ sudo status nmbd
nmbd start/running, process 1163

I think Dietmar's comment #5 is pretty interesting: the binaries in 9.10

then (and for others too, as they reported). So there must have been a
way to make this work. Have there been any of the mechanisms mentioned

If MySQL won't start because of permissions problems (try running

   sudo -u mysql mysqld

or check /var/log/messages and /var/log/mysql/error.log, then this is the
same problem that I am having. (Especially if you have changed the location
of some files from the defaults.)

Check that data and log file directories have the correct rw
permissions.

Then check /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld permissions.

[Bug 579909] Re: mysql fails to build form source on armel

2010-05-19 Thread Konstantinos Margaritis
Ok, found a fix, in file Makefile.am, do_abi_check (near the end):

This code doesn't work:

for file in $(abi_headers); do \
@CC@ -E -nostdinc -dI \
 -I$(top_srcdir)/include \
 -I$(top_srcdir)/include/mysql \
 -I$(top_srcdir)/sql \
 -I$(top_builddir)/include \
 -I$(top_builddir)/include/mysql \
 -I$(top_builddir)/sql \
$$file 2/dev/null | \
 @SED@ -e '/^# /d' \
   -e '/^[ ]*$$/d' \
   -e '/^#pragma GCC set_debug_pwd/d' \
   -e '/^#ident/d'
$(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
 @DIFF@ -w $$file.pp $(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
 @RM@ $(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
   done

This however works:

for file in $(abi_headers); do \
@CC@ -E -nostdinc -dI \
  -I$(top_srcdir)/include \
  -I$(top_srcdir)/include/mysql \
  -I$(top_srcdir)/sql \
  -I$(top_builddir)/include \
  -I$(top_builddir)/include/mysql \
  -I$(top_builddir)/sql \
 $$file 2/dev/null | @SED@ -e '/^# /d'
\
-e '/^[ ]*$$/d' \
-e '/^#pragma GCC set_debug_pwd/d' \
-e '/^#ident/d'
$(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
@DIFF@ -w $$file.pp $(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
@RM@ $(top_builddir)/abi_check.out; \
done

The difference? The | @SED (pipe) is on the same line in the working
case, no idea why this shouldn't work.

[Bug 579909] Re: mysql fails to build form source on armel

2010-05-19 Thread Konstantinos Margaritis
No, wasn't that after all.

Reverted it and it worked, it was the first line:

set -ex; \

removed the \ and it worked. Again no idea why that would break the
script. But I retried that about a dozen times, and I'm positive that
this was the line that made it break in the first place.

[Bug 582740] Re: Forwarded ports not closed to remote ssh2 server in FIN_WAIT_2

2010-05-19 Thread Jka
Update:
If I use the ssh binary from package openssh-client_5.1p1-6ubuntu2_amd64.deb
9.10 (Karmic) on my 10.04 system as the Session 2 caller to the remote ssh2

[Bug 577693] Re: squid restart fails

2010-05-19 Thread Henry Wertz
I am running 2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu12. Yeah, hadn't realized I had that
3.0RC1 config file (I have another proxy running on a gentoo box, which
probably has 3.0). I will try just dropping in the stock ubuntu
squid.conf to make sure it's not some oddity of my config file
preventing it from restarting. If it still doesn't restart, I suspect
this is the root cause of bugs 561750 (squid starts and stops
immediately (after upgrade from karmic to lucid)) and573839
(Local Squid quits working on interface change).

[Bug 353914] Re: udev rule needed to support Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (attached)

2010-05-19 Thread Nicolas Évrard
Even tough my Nokia 5800 is recognised by rhythmbox via the mtp protocol, the
file transfert did not occured as exepected:
My flac files where found on the nokia's filesystem, I though it would have
transcoded the files to mp3.

Thus I had to use the .is_audio_player trick to inform rhythmbox that he
should transcode the file when drag'n'dropping files.

[Bug 581718] Re: dovecot upgrade purposely breaks working configuration

2010-05-19 Thread Ante Karamatić
1) it was working by pure luck; it was never suposed to work
2) actually, there is; look at comment #6
3) for a reason - security
4) ??

It's not ignoring the issue. It's just that you are using 'mailbox'
path, which starts with 'maildir:' as a home variable. That's just
wrong, weather dovecot works or not. Your home isn't
'maildir:/home/user'. It's '/home/user'.

If you think that is wrong and that 'home' should be
'maildir:/home/user', bring this to upstream cause Ubuntu will not
diverge on this one. It's just pointless. MDS doesn't set 'home'
attribute wrong. Look at it in your LDAP - I'm sure it's just
'/home/something'. Problem is that you linked 'mailbox' LDAP attribute
with 'home' variable in dovecot in dovecot-ldap.conf.

AHAHAHAH :) After a closer look the final bug is actually valid !

Can you please remove the hackish patch for cr.reset_clip() in the
ubuntu package and instead use the proper fix from git ? That would be
this commit:

commit a9795568f5a0adca5a4277bf51868a5a30ff99dd
Author: Brandon Lewis brandon_le...@alum.berkeley.edu
Date: Tue Apr 6 10:59:58 2010 -0700

pitivi/ui/curve.py: use save/restore instead of reset_clip in simple_paint

closes bug 612501, as we avoid calling the improperly-wrapped
cr.restore() method

I'm afraid I don't know much more than you do at this point.
Theoretically, if the watermark is 60 ms, anything below approx 50 ms
shouldn't cause an underrun.

Btw, are the calibration timeout and the underrun messages
synchronized? You should be able to see both if you look in
/var/log/syslog.
