[Bug 573975] Re: pxe image fails to boot: Forbidden directory
I did not see the issue myself, but the reporter and another person (comments #1 and #2) say that for them, /etc/default/tftpd-hpa contained /srv/tftp instead of the expected /var/lib/tftpboot, and that caused the message forbidden directory to be displayed. I don't know under which circumstances that happens, so I cannot provide any feedback - it's up to the reporter to provide any details necessary. Maybe on same cases the debian/tftpd-hpa.templates file isn't used? There are also other problems in this bug report (compiz, sound etc) but I think that the major one that's also reflected in the title is related to tftpd-hpa, that's why I thought it should be moved here. -- pxe image fails to boot: Forbidden directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to tftp-hpa in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 573975] Re: pxe image fails to boot: Forbidden directory
I explain better. At work I have a VM with ubuntu 9.10 that is an upgraded from a 9.04. With 9.04 i had 2 working clients that do not work with 9.10 (they were old and have been replaced now). One client was not able to boot and the other had sound problems. Then, for testing purpose, i tried at home a copy of the same VM after upgrading to 10.04. The result was that no clients (old and newer) were able to boot and I had the forbidden directory error. Searching for the cause, I found the mentioned /etc/default/tftpd-hpa where i see the path to /srv/tftp. In my 9.10 VM (still in use), that folder do not exist and in my 10.04 test VM, I have both /srv/tftp and /var/lib/tftpboot. But that is not the cause of the forbidden directory error in my case. I wanted tell about the changed folder because that was not obvious to me (I still have /var/lib/tftpboot) and knowing that, maybe can help... I do not know the situation on a fresh (not upgraded) 10.04 installation. How I had say, the cause of my problem was the mentioned TFTP_OPTIONS=--secure that was missing in my 10.04 after the upgrade. After adding that option, the forbidden directory error had gone and my (newer) clients boot with 10.04 For the old amd K6-2 not booting...I found that upgrading to 64Mb of ram, make it able to boot again (compiz is automatically disabled if it can't be run). [Bug 605283] [NEW] sftp/ssh freeze after hibernate
Public bug reported: Steps: 1. ssh-connect to a remote server with nautilus (a web server vm, in my case) 2. Open some remote files with gedit directly from nautilus 3. Open a terminal, and connect to ssh 4. Hibernate and resume. Result: - gedit freezes - ssh terminal unresponsive - at the time when i still had 2GB memory (instead of 4GB), the rest of the system was also quite unresponsive. Responsiveness (for everything) is back when I unmount the ssh/sftp connection in Nautilus, and/or close the ssh terminals. -- Solution: - Applications should understand that the connection is temporarily gone, and not waste resources on a broken ssh connection. - Ideally, all involved applications should remember the remote filesystem location and opened files, until the connection is back. If they already do, we need to take care that the bugfix does not change this. - Ubuntu hibernate should tell applications that ssh connections are temporarily gone. - Ubuntu wake-up-from-hibernate should ask the ssh password and reconnect, if I want to use one of the applications that depends on the ssh connection. This should not be in a modal dialog, but rather in a panel notification or anything that can wait until user takes care of it. Bottomline: Remember the state, allow to reconnect, and be patient (with dialogs and system resources) as long as the connection is (temporarily) gone. Important: As it is now, if after the unmount I then change one of the files in gedit, it will ask me for the ssh password and reconnect. This is good, and should stay this way!! - I make this a kernel bug, because of the hibernate stuff. I imagine that gedit is just one example for this problem, and the real solution has to happen in the kernel. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 308191 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308191 Everyone wants Ubuntu to be as good as it can be. Idealistic notions aside, the fact is that there is a limited amount of manpower to attend to these bugs. So, in the interest of expediting a fix that will be adequate to the largest number of users, I'll compare these bugs: bug 554980 can be fixed with a simple patch to gnome-mouse-properties. In fact, it was working in Jaunty, and this represents a regression. Multitouch emulation is in the system, it works, and it simply needs a GUI to activate it. This could even be done in lucid-updates. bug 308191 touches a lot of packages and much of the required code isn't deployed. There is no way this can be done in Lucid and probably not even in Maverick. Even with a far-off, allegedly superior solution that would resolve bug 308191, the user experience would be exactly the same as if we fixed bug 554980. Genuine multitouch and multitouch emulation, at this point, are indistinguishable to an end user. And while expert bug fixers are spending time on a more difficult solution, they are neglecting other, far more serious, bugs. So, we have to choose: if we value a user experience, which enables two- fingered scrolling in the near future, let's fix this bug. If we want to spend years in development creating the ultimate solution, while users get a sub-par operating system, then let's ignore this bug and focus on 308191. In any case, this is not at all my decision to make. I'm just a user to would like to have a solution that works as soon as possible. If the Ubuntu community decides otherwise, so be it. That's my last word on the subject. -- two finger scroll/multitouch not working on lenovo thinkpad w510 having SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad.. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554980 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 604007] Re: apt-get install failed on package python-gobject-dbg
Last update now. As long as I need a stable Lucid system, I decided to clean-up everything without spending more time in this investigation of the bug. The problem actually arose when trying to debugging a proposed version of a buggy package. After that trial, I caused the system to become unstable (from the APT point of view). Therefore I cleaned up everything just a few minutes ago, deleting /etc/sources.list.d/ddebs and removing all *-dbgsym packages. Now the system is correct and APT is working well. On comment #55 I described a problem related to duplex printing (dual side printing - an hardware enabled feature of many HP printers) ... thank You DANIEL for Your private answer. After some tests with the new PROPOSED libusb, I suspect that the problem is not related to the usb driver, many rather it could be related to the printer language interface (cups or hplip or something similar). [Bug 605290] [NEW] Unplug, replug AC on laptop, screen pulses, battery indicator not updated, power statistics and preferences screens unavailable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support Steps to reproduce: Laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200 with an after-market AC adapter) 1) unplug AC power 2) replug AC power Resulting symptoms: Frequently (probably 70% of the time) 1) Pulsing, Flashing, beating, flickering display (looks like the brightness level is popping up and down rapidly) 2) The battery indicator still shows battery as discharging. 3) The battery indicator's Power Statistics (usually accessed by clicking battery status on popdown menu) and Preferences screen are unavailable. If you click on the battery status area you can see a faintly visible 3D outline of a transparent dialog box the size of the normal popdown menu item, but no item is visible). 4) results of upower --dump cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state and cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/AC/state sometimes match what the battery indicator displays and sometimes not. Re: [Bug 605216] Re: It doesnt matter what I put here, none of the solutions work!
I have reported enough bugs, and thanks for the advice but that is ALL I have been doing for the last 3 weeks. I have spent on average 2/3's of every day of my University school holidays for the last 3 weeks doing just as you suggested. Still nothing, I had added details to other bugs, I have followed the advice from launchpad, ubuntu forums, debian forums, mint/ubuntu forums. I have also spent time on the gnome forums, kde and xfce forums as well looking for problems. This is the problem I find - there is NO answer for this problem. Now Im a pretty clever guy, but when a problem is completely random, when you report bugs as ur requested to do, you follow ALL advice and still no answers, and other people are still having problems too?! I have to wonder, thats all Im saying. Granted, I take your point that ubuntu cant test on ALL forms of hardware and thats a given; but neither can Windows, and as much as I hate it, its fully stable on the hardware I have... ...so it begs the philosophical question. How do THEY do it?! But it doesnt matter now, I will have to wait another couple of years again and give it another go. I can remember paying $49.95 for redhad 6 donkeys yrs ago and it has come a long way. Maybe in another 2 to 4 yrs ubuntu will ACTUALLY work out of the box. I do, truely hopefully, wish and pray for that day. :) Thanks, but the advice doesnt help On 14/07/2010, Dr. Kenobi 605...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Richard, I'm sorry you are having too many problems with Ubuntu. You need to know that it's impossible for Canonical/Ubuntu to test the Operating System on every hardware in the world. I want to help you, and the first thing I'm going to tell you is that you should visit the Ubuntu Forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/) for help. There you will be able to find other users with the same problems. And if you don't find it you could open a new threat asking for help. Launchpad is not the best place to solve your problems. Another thing you can do is visit the #ubuntu channel on freenode.net where a lot of users will help you. You will be able to chat with them, and it's going to be easy for you to solve your problems. You can use Empathy to access the irc channel. I hope you give Ubuntu another chance. Please, see the latest event here below: /var/log/daemon.log: Jul 14 08:44:19 uffcom2 hp[9036]: io/hpmud/musb.c 1403: unable to write data hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1320_series?serial=00CNRW66G0LB: 45 second io timeout When this log line appears, then the printer hang for an indefinite time, having the receiving data flashing forever. Any further attempt to print fails, because the new docs are queued after the hanging one. If I try to delete or abandon the print from the queue window, the printer still stays into this hanging status. The only way I found so far to restore the printing is to turn the printer off and turn it on again. Would You please tell me if this is somehow related to libusb or if I should search for the problem elsewhere? Thank You in advance. [Bug 565724] Re: package fakeroot (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: unable to open '/usr/lib64/libfakeroot/libfakeroot-tcp.so.dpkg-new': No such file or directory
Nope, it's a 32-bit 10.04. I'm sorry, I don't remember perfectly well whether this installation is through upgrade or direct install. Cuz I closed the pc during the 9.04 - 10.04 upgrade process by mistake. Then it wouldn't normally open up. Then I don't remember what I did. I guess I reinstalled it (10.04) from the cd afai can recall. I'm not home now, I'll try posting the output when I get home around 13 hours later. -- package fakeroot (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: unable to open '/usr/lib64/libfakeroot/libfakeroot-tcp.so.dpkg-new': No such file or directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565724 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
