[Bug 611579] [NEW] Kile does not remember custom Latex commands

2010-07-29 Thread plotzer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kile

Hi there,

I am trying to defining a custom Latex Command (via Settings->Configure
Kile->Latex,General->Commands Configure->Commands Add).
If I add a new Reference command with the name prettyref, this command can be
used properly in the running session (autocompletion works, autoexpansion of
labels works). However, when closing and restarting Kile my custom command is
gone.

Kile seems to fail in storing the command to kilerc. Here is hat happens.
When closing Kile, I get the following error printed in the terminal:

kile(3364)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
"KConfigIni: In file /home/plotzer/.kde/share/config/kilerc, line 169: "
"Invalid escape sequence "\p"."

And the corresponding line in the file ends up to be:
kilerc, line 169: \\rettyref=R,,,{ }

and the upon restart, the custom command is gone (could not be loaded
from kilerc, I guess).

I hope this helps to track down the problem.

Thanks in advance,
alex

[Bug 611580] [NEW] Please merge phpldapadmin 1.2.0.5-1.1(universe) from debian unstable(main)

2010-07-29 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phpldapadmin

Debian changes:

phpldapadmin (1.2.0.5-1.1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload by the Security Team.
  * Switch off register_globals in debian apache configuration, looking
at the phpldapadmin changelog entries that contain fixes for bugs that
appeared with register_globals off it seems it is intended to be able
to work with that. Since this is a security problem and not supported
by PHP since years this setting will now be changed (Closes: #587536).

[Bug 598033] Re: japitools should depend on a a headless JRE rather than a full JDK

2010-07-29 Thread Thierry Carrez
In fact, Java packages must use a slightly more complex dependency:

"default-jre-headless | javaN-runtime-headless"

N being the lowest version of Java required to run it (2 or 5 or 6).
javaN-runtime-headless is a virtual that is provided by all the corresponding
JVMs.

It's an OR that ensures that:
 - if you already have an acceptable JVM installed, it satisfies the dep
 - if you don't have anything installed, it will pick default-jre-headless

So you must look into the build and check if the ant rules specify the
level of the code built (by default I think it's 5), and specify the
appropriate dep formula.

knowledgeable enough to hack through this problem, hopefully someone

For now I simply changed in /etc/fstab the floppy to cdrom and /dev/sr0 but

[Bug 539163] Re: [Legacy Radeon cards] Desktop effects/compiz: display brightness fluctuation with zoom, workspace switch or Expo

2010-07-29 Thread imwithid
@ Andreas Modinos,

Your solution worked well, although it was confusing.

Specifically, you should do the following:

1. Go to compizconfig-settings-manager (if you don't have it, in terminal: sudo
apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager )
2. On the left side, go to Category > General Options > Display Settings (Tab)
> Lighting (uncheck box).

I'm wondering if this could be disabled by default or if it is neccesary
for new video cards.

Thanks for the fix.

[Bug 550566] Re: Full-screen window prevents notification on other workspaces

2010-07-29 Thread Joel Ebel
I'm confirming this, with a significant use-case. I have two monitors.
I quite frequently have a full-screen gnome-terminal running on the
second monitor, but my first monitor is still available for dealing with
email, messaging, and whatever else needs to be done. Having a full-
screen gnome-terminal on my second monitor prevents me from getting any
notifications. This is very unfortunate, as my primary monitor is still
quite capable of displaying these notifications, and I'd very much like
to receive them.

[Bug 466088] Re: BackInTime karmic package missing depends on menu

2010-07-29 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
** Description changed:

The Back In Time (root) launcher as shipped in karmic calls the program
su-to-root. This program is not installed on a base Ubuntu machine, but
menu (The package containing su-to-root) is not listed as a dependency.
+
+ Impact
+
+ On a base Karmic or Lucid system both of the Backintime front-ends have an
undeclared dependency, which results in them failing to launch as root from the
menu system.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ Install a base system and either of the BiT front-ends. Ensure the 'menu'
package is not installed if it has been pulled in by another dependency. From
the menu, choose to run BiT as root and no window appears.
+
+ Fix:
+ -
+ The patch listed from git in an above post adds a dependency on menu for both
front-end packages. Sponsorship is required because I am not a Ubuntu developer.
+
+ Regression potential is very low. This fix has been thoroughly tested in
+ Debian and has some, but less, testing in Ubuntu.

Hi Tim, unless you are somehow using the same computer (and account) as

diagnosing your specific issue. This can be done by running "ubuntu-bug

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 611508] Re: nautilus 2.28.1 - fail to launch (core dump) after rhythmbox failure

2010-07-29 Thread Ralph Hyre
** Description changed:

- I use a system with multiple removable drives DVD-writers.
+ I use a system with multiple removable drives DVD-writers. There is a
+ scenario where if you are running rhythmbox, with audio CDs in both DVD
+ drives, and rhythmbox crashes, then something is left in a bad state,
+ causing nautilus to not start up successfully.

After rhythmbox fails, any attempts to open a new nautilus file manager
fail with a segmentation violation. It seems that the problems are
connected, although I'm not sure how.

- The workaround is to restart Linux (9.10-karmic), which isn't helpful.
- The failure to launch happens whether you use the GUI or the command
- line (/usr/bin/nautilus)
+ One workaround is to manually eject the disks from the drives by running
+ System -> Disk Utility and ejecting each disk. This seems to work, but
+ the problem repeats itself when you insert a new disk in the drives.
+
+ The DVD Drives are:
+ 1) PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-218L
+ 2) TSSTcorp VDDVDW SH-S223B
+
+ A second workaround is to restart Linux (9.10-karmic), which isn't the
+ desired workaround. The failure to launch happens whether you use the
+ GUI or the command line (/usr/bin/nautilus)

Despite getting a core dump, running gdb on the executable after the
- core file doesn't show a stack trace.
+ core file doesn't show a stack trace. See the 5th item attached to the
+ report for the minimal information provided by GDB.

[Bug 475679] Re: Mapping a Windows DFS share doesn't properly show me the filesystem.

2010-07-29 Thread zajc
I solve the problem in Ubuntu 10.04 and Nautilus 2.30.1 to put in (I have
static IP address)
/etc/resolv.conf
"search network_name"

The problem was because I didn't have proper network name in resolv.conf
and dfs server redirected smbclient to a computer with a share without
network name, for example "dfscompouter" and my computer was unable to
see this computer. When I put this "network_name" into resolv.con my
computer was able to find "dfscomputer".

Maybe this isn't a bug at all...

[Bug 603656] Re: [maverick] Package "eclipse" has broken dependencies.

2010-07-29 Thread fejes
Thanks Benjamin - I very much appreciate that you took the time to
reply.

Just so I'm clear on what's going on, following the link you provided,
it seems that eclipse 3.5.2-5 is waiting to build for AMD64 because it
is dependent on the libhamcrest-java library (>= 1.1-8~). However, from
the libhamcrest-java page ( https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/libhamcrest-java/1.1-8 ), it appears that the libhamcrest-java package
(which you uploaded the current version two days ago) will only ever be
built for the i386 architecture.

That suggests to me that AMD64 users should just download eclipse from
the web and not wait for ubuntu's package. Is that the best way to
proceed, or have I completely misunderstood what's going on?

[Bug 542183] Re: [users-admin] Changing UID doesn't work

2010-07-29 Thread Peter Valdemar Mørch
In order to be clear:

Bug #553746 "Cannot Change User and Group ID" is marked as a duplicate
of this one (by Milan, btw), Which is why I'm commenting here.

In the original text for that that bug, it says:
> Furthermore, adding a new user gives you no opportunity to set the User ID.

And that is what _I_ need: A new user with a specific user ID. (I have
to connect to an NFS volume, where my files already pre-exist with a
specific user and group ID - 1000 or 1001 just won't cut it)

Perhaps my situation isn't relevant for this bug, and I should open a
new bug for setting the User ID when creating a new user.

But anyway, for my situation, I guess I'll create the new user and
group, hand-edit /etc/passwd and /etc/group and then do something like
this:

sudo find / -o -uid $olduid -print0 | sudo xargs -0 chown $newuid
sudo find / -o -uid $oldgid -print0 | sudo xargs -0 chgrp $newgid

[Bug 611549] Re: Key hit repeat gets stuck

2010-07-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
apport information

** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => xorg (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

On maverick, stuck repeat can be triggered as follows:

  1. Type any key
  2. Near-simultaneously strike and release Backspace and Backslash '\'
together, with Backspace >slightly< preceding Backslash.
  3. The slash key will repeat indefinitely \

It took me several tries at #2 to get it to stick, but it's pretty easy
  to reproduce.

Possibly this has some relation to bug #124406 and possibly #403339.

[Bug 611551] [NEW] Non-dismissible alert: No packages installed

2010-07-29 Thread Brian Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-codec-install

When trying to play a certain wav file through either the totem plugin
in Firefox or through the totem plugin directly, I get prompted to
install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, which just happens to not be
installable right now in maverick. So after clicking 'install' I get an
alert window:

No packages installed
None of the selected packages were installed.

This alert can't be dismissed. If I click the Ok button or the close
box, it just stays there. Its parent window can't be closed either. The
process isn't locked up, since the windows still refresh and the buttons
animate in response to my clicking, but since it won't close the window,
I have to kill the process.

[Bug 531762] Re: System monitor System tab should show architecture (32/64bit)

2010-07-29 Thread YannUbuntu
the System Monitor should display :
- the architecture of the current system
- architecture of the hardware (in order for the user to know if the computer
can run Ubuntu 64 bits or not)

If I don't mistake, "uname -a" (or uname -m) indicates the current system
architecture.
The architecture of the hardware is given by "lscpu".

[Bug 611549] [NEW] Key hit repeat gets stuck

2010-07-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

On maverick, stuck repeat can be triggered as follows:

1. Type any key
2. Near-simultaneously strike and release Backspace and Backslash '\'
together, with Backspace >slightly< preceding Backslash.
3. The slash key will repeat indefinitely \

It took me several tries at #2 to get it to stick, but it's pretty easy
to reproduce.

Possibly this has some relation to bug #124406 and possibly #403339.

[Bug 574910] Re: High load averages on Lucid while idling

2010-07-29 Thread Chris
Not that this will do much to track down the issue, but I have some more
case history.

Today I was tidying up some vdi disks on my host system (work system
running 10.04 w/ 2.6.31-17 on Core2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 4GB ram). A disk
to disk (two physical disks) copy of a 7.5GB vdi caused the load average
to climb up to about 8 today. An rzip of the vdi image caused the load
average to climb to about 6. It slowed down the primary system, and the
virtual boxes. The system s that shared the spindle where the data was
being compressed was worst of all (obviously). All systems were
sluggish but not unusable.

So I bought the vdi image home. My home system (black) is an AMD
Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor at 3GHZ with 4 GB of ram and two 250GB
(hardware) mirrored disks where Ubuntu 9.10 w/Kernel 2.6.31-20 lives.
During the entire time that rzip was running the load average never went
about 1.7. When it was finished it sank very fast to 0.14 whereas on my
work system after a peak it takes about 3 min to reach a "normal" level
of load of at least .I know this is kind of like comparing apples to
hammers. I don't have a "pure" 10.04 system at work or at home that
has enough disk space free do uncompress a 7gb image with out doing some
work to create a new disk and attach it to an existing system.

So I did the next best thing I could come up with. On Violet (guest on
black) my 10.04 that has not had the kernel retrograded, I did a tar of
a folder containing 1.9GB of PDFs, images, mp3s, text, etc. Almost
instantly violet went from 1.03 to 3.83. Firefox had ha hard time
keeping up with my typing and right clicking for spelling checks. It
took from 21:34 to 21:38 (while I was doing nothing but watching top)
for the loadavg1 to drop from 3.72 to 1.08. I then did an rzip on the
tar file. at 21:40 with a loadavg1 of 1.29 I started the test. It is
with great interest that I only saw the loadavg1 go to about 4.33 (max)
but the system was far more sluggish (a right click was a 4-5 second
delay) and top would freeze up for several updates (2s/update) and then
rush to catch up. It sopped zipping at 22:01. Watching top I saw most
of the time %us was between 40 and 70, %sys was about 5-15. The amount
of time needed to rzip the smaller 2GB of data was much longer (many
minuets) than it took to unrzip 7gb of data.I know that zip and
unzip are not symmetrical, but 20 minuets to about 5 and only dealing
with about 28% of the data? It just doesn't seem right.

[Bug 321728] Re: Amarok package requires mysql-server

2010-07-29 Thread Hilikus
I'm sorry to revive this thread.
i removed mysql-server-5.1 and amarok stopped working, the collection was empty
and when i scanned for it i got
[ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQL
so it seems in my server amarok was still depending on it

i installed it again and it works again, so was this mysql package replaced by
a package i don't have? if so, why would it be that i still had the old
dependency? i'm using 10.04 with everything up to date.
what's the package that replaced mysql-server-5.1's functionalities?

Thanks

[Bug 544139] Re: Active VT tracking can fail at startup

2010-07-29 Thread Damien
Ubuntu being based on Debian, I've tried "testing" (aka squeeze). The
good news is that it works without a glitch, the bad one is that I am
switching all our production systems to Debian.

FYI, here's a comparison of relevant packages versions on Squeeze and
Lucid:

Debian Squeeze:
--
GDM: 2.30.2-4
Consolekit: 0.4.1-4
policykit-1: 0.96.2
Kernel: 2.6.32-5

Ubuntu Lucid:
--
GDM: 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu2 (definitely the worst version string
I've ever seen)
Consolekit: 0.4.1-3ubuntu1
policykit-1: 0.96.2
Kernel: 2.6.32-23-generic

[Bug 610582] Re: Can't set monitors

2010-07-29 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This looks like a configuration problem - although you've got two screen
sections set up, they're not referenced by any ServerLayout section. In
this case, the X server considers only the first Screen section
encountered to be active.

I think that adding the following ServerLayout section will light up the
SiS usb device, but I haven't tested it.

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Dual head layout"
Screen "Screen0"
Screen "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0"
EndSection

Same here.
