We have removed the local hostname from /etc/hosts pointing to 127.0.1.1
or any other address in 127.0.0.0/8, we only keep 127.0.0.1 for
localhost in there. Every other name is resolved by our internal DNS.
The loop above just waits until the DNS answers and the hostname can be
resolved.
Just to confirm this problem is specific to lucid.
The previous desktop images were jaunty, and I have just tested
that this problem does not exist on the jaunty client!
On the jaunty install (no trailing line in /etc/group, no gdm:optional
pam_group.so line.)

Past experience (and googling) suggest synaptic might have been running
in the background, or a previous dpkg may have hung. Can you paste the
output of 'ps -ef' in this bug report? Check for 'synaptic', 'apt*', and
dpkg, and, if you don't see any of those, then re-try the mysql
reinstallation?
I've been banging my head on this for over a day, pretty sick of the
reboot/test cycle. Nothing seemed to work - and then I was pointed at
this bug on IRC in #ubuntu-server.
I think it is essential that a KVM host attempts a clean shutdown of any
guests on host reboot. It was quite disconcerting

Against 1.6.2, I tried a test which involved creating and deleting 50
volumes in a tight loop, which passed successfully. With 100 volumes, I
was able to trigger a failure to clean up volumes. In addition, once the
max volume limit is reached and exceeded, occasionally, volumes are not
cleaned up
This problem appears to be resolved with a recent update. I've restarted
my server and Samba came right up.

I will try to help showing some information gathered from my lab server as
you requested:

10 x Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 with several services (SMTP, MySQL, Oracle, DB2,

Because I am a perfectionist I am going to suggest two more things to
make it even closer to the real theme :) :
1) If you look at the border around the active pathbar item, it is
darker than the other items and it looks a bit too dark, maybe just
leave the border colour the same

Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better. I forgot
to replace the name of my test machine when writing the example :-).
Oh, never mind. I'll just file the bug with rhythmbox-plugins and if
they tell me to change it again, I'll change it again.

Added branch with the proposed fix.
The OOM happens because ureadahead sets the tracing buffer to 128MB, and
at a system with small amount of memory (Beagleboard) this can cause the
boot to call the OOM, killing ureadahead and plymouthd.
For the fix I decided to change only the initscript,

I forgot to mention that the first thing I tried after noticing the
systematic errors was upgrading my clive. But if you insist:

I've tried a version of maverick kernel ported to Lucid, version
2.6.35-14.20~lucid2. It was supposed
to clear the problem but nop. I still have issues everytime I have
moderate to high I/O on the filesystem.
Tomorrow I will try another filesystem than ext4.
