[Bug 622698] [NEW] [maverick] Autoregistration of components fails at boot time (euca_conf returns 1)
Public bug reported: Testing with 20100823 ISO, eucalyptus 2.0~bzr1233-0ubuntu1 Topology 1 (CLC+Walrus+CC+SC / NC) /var/log/eucalyptus/registration.log shows that Walrus and CC fail to register (euca_conf returns 1); the SC loops waiting for the cluster to appear. Running manually, once booted: $ sudo -u eucalyptus /usr/share/eucalyptus/registration/walrus ip $ sudo -u eucalyptus /usr/share/eucalyptus/registration/cluster clustername ip works. The SC autoregisters correctly once the cluster registers. I suspect our current logic in upstart script makes it try to register too early. uec-component-listener starts when eucalyptus-cloud and eucalyptus-cc are started, and maybe it should wait a bit more. This is definitely a race, and the 5400rpm disks on the test laptop probably slows down the noisy component startup to a point where boot- time autoregistration fails. ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Dave Walker (davewalker) Status: New ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: High Assignee: Dave Walker (davewalker) Status: New ** Changed in: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-10.10-beta ** Changed in: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Dave Walker (davewalker) ** Also affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: High Assignee: Dave Walker (davewalker) Status: New -- [maverick] Autoregistration of components fails at boot time (euca_conf returns 1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/622698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 622588] Re: [kvm] pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile pxe-virtio.bin
You may be correct that it is an innocuous error, (I'm not using PXE boot on my VMs so don't see any otherwise missing functionality) but afaik it never used to appear on lucid and now appears on maverick packages of kvm so its technically a regression. Having investigated the issue further it seems the `kvm-pxe` package contains this bootroom and installing it makes the warning message go away, so I'm not sure why its not an automatic depends for qemu-kvm? ** Changed in: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- [kvm] pci_add_option_rom: failed to find romfile pxe-virtio.bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/622588 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

ERR=Connection refused This error occurs if one (or more) File-daemons can’t be contacted by the bacula-director. The Storage-daemon dies when the job whose file-daemon is unreachable is canceled by the director. The biggest problem is that one client whose file-daemon cant’t be reached will crash the storage-daemon and all the running and subsequent backups will fail. The segfault did occur several times, twice because the IP-address of the client did change, while is wasn’t changed in the bacula-fd.conf and once when the client was shut-down. In terms of performance there should be no problems as the raid-array could handle a throughput to disk of 650Mbyte/s . The network-capacity should be no problem either, as the storage-server got a 10gbit connection, the clients a 1gbit one. Cpu- and memory load (on the storage-server) is low too (about 10% of one cpu-core per backup-job, about 900mb of ram-usage). To make sure it is not a temporary issue, the bacula-director and the storage-daemon were restarted. To make sure it is not an issue depending on the Number of concurrent jobs we tested it with three jobs at a time. To make sure it is not a hardware related issue another storage-deamon system was installed and tested. We could always re-produce the crash of the storage-daemon on other hardware under similar conditions. Adam Conrad - This isn't apache-specific, though it seems that apache users seem to be one of the larger groups of people who think that deleting conffiles will improve their lives somehow. Not really sure how to curb that, but not with bugs in apache. You won't curb it by making sarky comments. If it works for a handful of congnoscenti like your goodself, but fails for the great unwashed, then it probably isn't very usefully organised. No-one's asking for 'bugs in apache'. [Bug 612975] Re: Please convert init scripts to upstart.
Thanks for the patch. A number of comments: --upstart-only is incorrect, as in other bugs. Please see dh_installinit(1) for documentation of --upstart-only. You've deleted invoke-rc.d calls but not replaced them with anything. There are a couple of serious typos (as follows), as well as some minor ones in the changelog and comments: + [ -f /etc/default/dhcp3-relay ] ./etc/default/dhcp3-rlay + exec /sur/sbin/dhcrelay -q $OPTIONS $IFCMD $SERVERS Regarding the first line, as well as the spelling mistake, please note that you need a space after the '.' - this is a shell command, not part of a path. The ntp patch had the same mistake. The dhcp3-relay init script aborts if /etc/default/dhcp3-relay doesn't exist, while the Upstart job carries on anyway. This is unsafe. The same goes for the dhcp3-server job. Something needs to be done about the update-rc.d call in dhcp3-server.postinst. Please port over the /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf handling from the init script. On my fully patched (today) Lucid installation this problem persists, both with samba and avahi. I still suspect upstart to be the sinner, but I haven't had time to dig through the logs yet. [Bug 576255] Re: can't install apache2.2-common (2.2.14-5ubuntu8)
Having conffiles be deletable is a feature. Yes, it would be nice if dpkg was move verbose about it (perhaps listing every deleted conffile with a not reinstating deleted conffile /path/to/file during installation?), but changing the behaviour to silently restore deleted files breaks some pretty fundamental assumptions about dpkg conffile handling. Agreed on all points. I suggest you read the dpkg bug report. To summarize, I'm suggesting that conffile changes be listed and the user offered a chance to resolve them as if the upstream confffiles were changed in the new release, but only when maintainer scripts fail. This is purely a selfish interest, as I see a lot of bug reports to handle related to maintainer scripts failing because the service is somewhat broken (possibly unbeknownst to the user) at upgrade time. -- can't install apache2.2-common (2.2.14-5ubuntu8) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576255 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 619843] Re: euca-get-console-output returns one single line
Nothing in Eucalyptus changed in this regard between 1.6.2 and 2.0.0, I believe. On two other KVM-based distros the console.log file, which is produced by KVM, is readable to Eucalyptus. We can add a patch to chown or chmod the file via euca_rootwrap every time prior to reading it, but that is a hack. Ideally, we would figure out why this is happening on Maverick. Could apparmor profile for KVM (or libvirt?) have something to do with this? [Bug 622554] [NEW] Wrong wording on the dice answer
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gbrainy One of the questions in GBrainy asks: Two fair 6 sided dices are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability of getting two even numbers? Answer using a fraction (e.g.: 1/2). And the answer according to GBrainy is: There are 9 of 36 possibilities of getting an even number. Actually there are that many possibilities of getting TWO even numbers. The odds of getting just one are much higher - 3/4. Well I couldn't really understand what exactly the issue was, so could one of you rephrase the description? -- software center window closes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 494476] Re: Smbd, kjournald2 and rsync blocked for more than 120 seconds while using ext4.
Hi, the kernel update from last week has made our troubles worse. I have not managed to get one backup without the 120s blocking since the update. Althout I didn't change anything else. Still using noop as io-scheduler. I'll open a new bug report when no one is responding here. Sorry but this is most important to us. I don't think there is anything special with our hardware or setup: - dual Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2378 (8 cores) - 32GB Ram - SAS: 08:00.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08) 09:00.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08) - SCSI: 02:08.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI (rev c1) - each SAS serves 24 SATAs HDDs: WDC WD3000HLFS-01G6U1 (Raptor) - SCSI servers HP tape library with two LTO-3 Ultrium 3-SCSI drives best regards Lars -- Smbd,kjournald2 and rsync blocked for more than 120 seconds while using ext4. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494476 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 390816] Re: external monitor output is switched off when closing the laptop-lid when gnome-power-manager is set to blank screen on closing
Maybe this workaround can help you also in the suspend case: http://it-tactics.blogspot.com/2010/08/ubuntu-1004-with-docking-station.html I noticed that after these changes my Desktop is much more stable in the meaning of flickering and resolution changes (which also happened e.g. when starting TeamViewer (and other applications) for the first time. The bug #613650 and bug #617421 could be related to this one I guess. -- external monitor output is switched off when closing the laptop-lid when gnome-power-manager is set to blank screen on closing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390816 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
