[Bug 634839] Re: package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi firebird, thanks for taking the time to report this as a bug and help us make Ubuntu better. This one is very confusing. Since all of this runs as root, there should have been no permission denied on file access. Did you have /etc mounted readonly, or maybe some hardening on the system, like immutable files on /etc, that might have layered on top of the normal permissions? Marking Incomplete, firebird, please respond to the above at your earliest convenience so I can reopen the bug. Thanks! ** Changed in: postfix (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- package postfix 2.7.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

This is not a bug in the clamav package. Some other package has locked the user related files. See Bug #432964 as it has an extended discussion on the topic. You can remove the lock files as described there to resolve the immediate issue, but it would be best to try and find the original source of these stale locks. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: clamav i'm reporting a bug ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: clamav-base 0.96.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.42-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Sep 10 19:29:15 2010 ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release i386 (20091028.5) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: clamav Title: package clamav-base 0.96.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 + + Setting up clamav-base (0.96.1 + dfsg-0ubuntu0.10.04.1) ... useradd: + unable to lock / etc / passwd; try again later. adduser: `/ usr / sbin / + useradd-d / var / lib / clamav-g clamav-s / bin / false-u 114 clamav + 'returned error code 1. ** Package changed: clamav (Ubuntu) = ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- package clamav-base 0.96.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/635537 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to clamav in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Frankly, Maverick Beta you tube videos running better than any previous Ubuntu on this 1 gHz Celeron. HD rather jerky of course. For my i830 and my i845G running the default beta intel driver Version: 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu3 running fine for ordinary use. vesa also runs O.K. on this i830. I'll be testing Beta updates to see if the bug of not defaulting to vesa gets fixed. [Bug 459639] Re: X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot
The triggering factors of this bug can range from hardware to installed packages to how fragmented your drive is and how much drive seeking for components happens during load. None of these are really the cause. The cause is that upstart optimized for fast start up is starting X before the underlying system is ready in some systems and under some circumstances. Which means best-case scenario we need to look at reconfiguring upstart. I was reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs/devweek1007/UpstartJobs and came across a good suggestion: this command: sudo initctl log-priority info will cause upstart to output information in /var/log/syslog. I'm going to give it a shot later with without sleep 2 and see if I can get any interesting output. That chatlog also has a few other insights into what may need to be done to get to the bottom of this. -- X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

i830 gets same problem with' Beta 2.6.35-20. [Bug 635724] [NEW] Nvidia : default xorg.conf settings prevent smooth Compiz operation (jerky animation)
Public bug reported: Hi ! Ubuntu automatically generates an xorg.conf file when installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers. It works very well overall, however, one cannot get a smooth Compiz experience without addiing two options in xorg.conf. * Option TripleBuffer True : without this option, some effects like the scale effect (like the OSX Exposé) are *very* jerky. Moreover it might make things generally smoother at a cost of a little more delay in games which is generally not visible (I personally never noticed it) * Option DynamicTwinView false : this is sadly more annoying because it would disable some important features of the Nvidia drivers. However, I think it should be discussed with Nvidia, because this feature makes the nvidia driver report a bad vertical frequency value, which renders animations less smooth. * Moroever, the Sync to VBlank setting in nvidia settings should also be enabled by default. (I also filled in a report about the default Compiz value). All in all, getting a smooth Compiz ( OpenGL) experience with an nvidia GPU implies changing 4 values... I think this is a major concern for mainstream users... Because most of them will stay with the default values and have jerky / torn animations. (in movies / games / compiz) Cheers ! Sorry that we didn't respond promptly to this bug report. I don't doubt that it was a real problem, but unfortunately a bug report isn't that useful to us without reliable steps to reproduce the problem. I tried installing poker2D, uninstalling it, then installing something else (Freeciv), using Ubuntu Software Center 2.1.18.1 on Ubuntu Maverick. It worked fine. If any diligent tester can figure out a way to reproduce this problem (does it happen when the poker2D installation process is interrupted? is it something to do with poker2D's debconf process?), please reopen this report with instructions. [Bug 475773] Re: Get Software category lists are too long
For 3.0, we have done two things to tackle this problem: 1. As I predicted in my previous comment, we've replaced the two-pane department screen with a one-pane screen that ends with an All {number} link. 2. In some places, e.g. Science Engineering Mathematics, we've hidden non-application items by default with a Show {number} technical items link. What I have not had time to do, though, is any further research on adding more subsections to reduce the length of the Accessories, Education, Office, Sound Video, System, or Themes Tweaks departments. If any usability lab, HCI class, or LoCo would like to help out with Ubuntu, it would be great if they could take even one of these departments and run a card-sorting exercise to work out what the subsections should be. -- Get Software category lists are too long https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475773 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This behavior was added in debian/patches/50_driver_screensaver-properties-desktop.patch. [Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845
i845G and i830 run all ordinary applications, office, internet, internet video, ... without Compiz. Blacklisting Compiz for them is just fine with me, since I usually check on install and set System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects None anyway. Of course I'm interested in running applications full screen so I don't have any interest in desktop eye candy anyway. I do note from comments on the forum others are interested in desktop eye candy. By the way, my i845G and i830 are running Mavierick Beta with i915.modeset=1, KMS active, O.K. not that I do anything with KMS or switching modes. See bug #541492. [Bug 623438] Re: Font size not correct in merged sandvich PDF
I am not aware of any open source OCR software that is doing multi- column document recognition. It's more of a segmentation task, rather than recognition itself, so it should be rather implemented in a front- end, such as OCRopus. If you have a linear text flow, sandwich PDFs can be read by a screen reader smart enough in a reasonable way. Apart from already mentioned Finereader, old Cuneiform Windows freeware seems to be able to do multi-column. -- Font size not correct in merged sandvich PDF https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623438 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
