[Bug 580319] Re: dhcp3-server launches before upstart brings all interface, thus failing to start
As another proposed workaround, I have found that editing /etc/init/rc- sysinit.conf to change the line: start on filesystem and net-device-up IFACE=lo to: start on filesystem and net-device-up IFACE=br0 also appears to produce the desired result by delaying running of legacy /etc/init.d scripts until after the bridge interface comes up. I am not sure if this will have any other undesirable effects and clearly it would not work on a system without a bridge configured. This will significantly add to egg on face if it is allowed to carry over into Ubuntu 10.10. I have no idea what is happening with my file sharing attempts. It seems to change from one machine shut down to the next. If you look at the threads on this, the confusion is varied. No excuse for implementing basic services like this. I do not see any attempts to fix the bugs either. Seems a step back and use one approach might be a good one to take. Just pick one method and go with it or make certain different methods if allowed do not interfere with each other. Adam Conrad - This isn't apache-specific, though it seems that apache users seem to be one of the larger groups of people who think that deleting conffiles will improve their lives somehow. Not really sure how to curb that, but not with bugs in apache. I didn't delete any config files, yet I also have this problem. And if apache upgrades break without faulty user intervertion, then it is most definitely a packaging bug. Locate reqtimeout returns only /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_reqtimeout.so but there has never been any matching set of .conf and .load files in /etc/apache2/mods- available, as verified by perusing full system backups dating back to 2010-07-31. The problem just occurred for me a couple weeks ago after no modification to the system--other than upgrades--since install at 2010-04-13. If I had to make a guess, it would be that dpkg is currently expecting a file that it didn't previously provide and then assuming its absence implicates manual deletion, which is obviously a problem for anyone who expects server upgrades between untampered states to be reliable. Shouldn't they? I'm not convinced that manual deletion should be allowed to interfere either. Non-stock configuration (particularly living in /etc) is sysadmin domain and none of dpkg's concern unless --purge --reinstall is explicitly requested. If user action has broken something, fine. Let user deal with it instead of taking down a service that might have been working anyway (as it was). I'm having a hard time reproducing this, or even understanding how the prerm script, which is rather complex for what its supposed to do, would produce the series of errors. Just confirming, for me the bug manifests differently: I have a 1280x1024 external monitor, and X starts in that mode (with a little help in xorg.conf). However, g-s-d tries to be too clever and switches it to 1024x768, presumably because xrandr thinks that this is the highest common resolution with my internal monitor (1280x800). So I now get two unnecessary modeswitches during boot (my desktop session of course switches it back to 1280x1024). This is affecting me too. I cannot create a new user on the target system, as I do not have the correct permissions (and in any event it doesn't have a GUI). This did not occur under Ubuntu 9.10, and has only started happening since I upgraded (I did *not* do a fresh install) to Ubuntu 10.04. When I select properties for the file, then Open With, I see that Open Office is the only application selected. However, when I double-click on the file to open it, I get the message There is no application installed for OpenDocument Text files. If I then select Open Office manually, it opens a blank document. If I copy the file locally, then I can open it and edit it. I can open other files via SFTP (e.g. text files), so the blank document part might be an open office problem. However, I'm unsure why it does not think there is any application that is able to open .odt documents. We can't set turn_on_external_monitors_at_startup to True again. We already had that, and it causes external monitors to get powered off. This means that you can't use a docked laptop with an external monitor any more, since we don't have any cleverness to detect whether the lid is closed at startup and the internal screen should be powered off (this is because of too many buggy BIOSes, not because we couldn't implement it). So it seems that both settings cause problems. Can't we just entirely disable this xrandr messing by default? You are right, compiz was automatically turned off and i didn't have effect with LUCID and 19 monitor. But today , I am with 17 monitor in dual screen (I work in many location, so with many different screen !) with marverick deskop, and with or without compiz effect, I have the same problem.
