Re: [Bug 663920] Re: public IPs unroutable from instances

2010-10-21 Thread Chris Jones
Hi

It's not fair to assume that the public ip is bound to a local
interface. That's not how ec2 works. It does seem reasonable to expect
to route to that ip thoigh

In our specific case, we're just trying to access the host via it's
public address, which is not such an uncommon requirement.

[Bug 616719] Re: slow group indexing when using huge ldap

2010-10-21 Thread Philipp Kaluza
Klaus: in an environment of this size, I strongly recommend against using
libnss-ldap, because it just doesn't scale well enough. Please try installing
nslcd and libnss-ldapd (notice the d), get it running, after that add nscd
again, and evaluate if this better fits your needs. If it doesn't, you might
also have a look at sssd and libnss-sss, but AFAICR that's only really
available starting from maverick.
BTW both these daemons come with their own pam packages, which replace
libpam-ldap.

[Bug 664424] [NEW] PUT unable to upload to server - Error Code 1

2010-10-21 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tftp-hpa

installing tftpd-hpa works.
I am able to GET files (from /var/lib/tftpboot) using tftp client on another
computer (both are Ubuntu)
PUT does not work, it returns error:
Error code 1: File not found

This is not that the client side can't find file, because is I try to
put a file that does not exists, I get: No such file or directory

So - plain-installed tftpd-hpa is unable to receive files for some
reason - maybe /var/lib/tftpboot rights ?

[Bug 664424] Re: PUT unable to upload to server - Error Code 1

2010-10-21 Thread James Page
The default behaviour for tftpd is to not create new files, i.e. you can
upload to an existing file location (as long as it has the correct
permissions) but you can't create new files on the tftpd server.

You can change this behaviour by adding the --create parameter to
TFTP_OPTIONS in /etc/default/tftpd-hpa and amending the directory
permissions on /var/lib/tftpboot.

However you should do this with EXTREME CAUTION; this effectively allows
any remote client to upload data with no authentication to your server
which could create potential Denial of Service problems due to full file
systems etc...

I checked this in Lucid as well and this behaviour has not changed for
Maverick.

[Bug 663672] Re: won't mount NFS mounts with space in the name

2010-10-21 Thread James Page
Hi Tim

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 663672

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, using 'ubuntu-bug'
and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

It would also be really helpful if you could attach your autofs
configuration files to this bug report; /etc/auto.master would be a
great start with any other files that you may have configured as part of
your set-up.

Thanks

[Bug 664681] [NEW] package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-10-21 Thread Ted Kokenos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula

I was installing from Ubuntu 10.04 package installer. I got an error,
something about MySQL setup. I have previously installed MySQL, so I do
not understand what the problem could have been.

you.

[Bug 663672] Re: won't mount NFS mounts with space in the name

2010-10-21 Thread Tim White
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: autofs5

Using the auto.net file to mount NFS mounts on the local network.
One of the machines (a NAS) has a number of similarly named exports with
spaces in the name. autonfs appears to only see the name upto the first space.
The awk script in /etc/auto.net that parses the output of showmount doesn't
consider that there may be spaces in the export name.

For example, the Network Recycle Bin's
  $ showmount -e korby
  Export list for korby:
  /Qweb
  /Qusb
  /Qrecordings
  /Qmultimedia
  /Qdownload
  /Public
  /Photos
  /Network Recycle Bin 4
  /Network Recycle Bin 3
  /Network Recycle Bin 1
  /Media
  /Documents
  /DVD_rip

  Turns into

  $ /etc/auto.net korby
  -fstype=nfs,hard,intr,nodev,nosuid \
/DVD_rip korby:/DVD_rip \
/Documents korby:/Documents \
/Media korby:/Media \

/Qdownload korby:/Qdownload \
/Qmultimedia korby:/Qmultimedia \
/Qrecordings korby:/Qrecordings \
/Qusb korby:/Qusb \
/Qweb korby:/Qweb

This prevents autofs from mounting any of the korby shares as it finds a
duplicate mount (let alone, the mount it thinks it's a duplicate of is
  invalid as well).

The installed distributions use kerberos and likewise to identify the user to

Kerberos and likewise come from ubuntu repository for each distribution (9.04

[Bug 662068] Re: Removing the offending host key when a server updates should be easier

2010-10-21 Thread Scott Ritchie
Indeed it seems that's the right thing, but to be honest I'd never even
seen the ssh-keygen command as I expected that sort of thing to be
handled by ssh. So there's still a discoverability problem here.
Perhaps the error message could mention ssh-keygen as well.

[Bug 662068] Re: Removing the offending host key when a server updates should be easier

2010-10-21 Thread Clint Byrum
Agreed Scott, I have been using OpenSSH for many many years, since the
first port to Linux, and I never knew about this (pretty cool) way of
removing old keys.

So in addition to adding the text on line to the error message, I
would also agree that adding a line after that suggesting that the user
can remove this old key after verification by running 'ssh-keygen -R
$host' would be a great help to discoverability of this feature.

[Bug 663672] Re: won't mount NFS mounts with space in the name

2010-10-21 Thread Tim White
A workaround (certainly not a solution) is to put a grep -v in the
pipeline between the SHOWMOUNT and the awk that prints it in the
expected format for autofs. Using this, I was able to filter out the 3
mounts with spaces in them so that I can continue using autofs. A proper
solution appears to be modifying showmount to change the output format
for when it is going to be parsed by a script.

This is probably because the router lacks whatever lets you browse files

[Bug 664917] [NEW] Some error messages are replaced with wrong error message

2010-10-21 Thread kc7zzv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: puppet

Most error messages in the beginning of a puppet run are replaced with
undefined method `closed?' for nil:NilClass. It should display the
real error message instead of that error.

This bug is fixed upstream. The upstream bug report is:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/3101

The commit that fixes this is at:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/repository/revisions/ae0b0bf23e418e8c6665e9dc135148b78bdbd913

I'm asking that this be fixed in Lucid because this creates a major usability
problem because the user can't see the real error.

Affected versions:
0.24.x is not affected.
0.25.4 is affected.
0.25.5 is not affected.

2010-10-21 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Adam, thanks for taking the time (over a year ago!) to file this bug
report and help us make Ubuntu better.

This was a problem in python-support, not cheetah from what I can see.
Reassigning as such.

As far as reproducing it, I think this may be a moot point, as 0.90.0
moved private modules to a specific dir and may have corrected the
issue.

I'm going to close this as Invalid, given that jaunty is EOL as of
Saturday, and the problem doesn't jump out at me as re-ocurring in the
list of open bugs already. My guess is this was caused by some other
error which isn't obvious.

[Bug 542042] Re: Regression: skype webcam (Chicony CNF7129) image very dark on Asus 1000HE on Karmic (9.10) UNR

2010-10-21 Thread Mark Schroeder
The patch for this issue has been checked into the uvcvideo V4L/DVB
sources. Here is a link to the patch, which I will also include as an
attachment:

http://git.linuxtv.org/media_tree.git?a=commitdiff;h=86d8b6abbbc973a1dd7d3c8f9e3c3e06131703b2

What is the process to get this picked up and if possible backported to
the 10.4 LTS?

** Patch added: Work around the problem by introducing a new
RESTRICT_FRAME_RATE quirk that disables all the frame rates except the default
one

The issue is related to the presence of comments at the top of the .po file.
Removing them, I can save my file !
This lowers the importance of this issue, yet it need to be fixed.

2010-10-21 Thread mkuutti
Happened to me also with 10.10 amd64, can remove package kdm but cannot purge.
Seems that postrm script is trying to double-delete file /etc/init/kdm.conf:
(dpkg -P kdm output:)
...
rm: cannot remove `/etc/init/kdm.conf': No such file or directory
...

Even if I sudo touch /etc/init/kdm.conf it won't purge package.

[Bug 648646] Re: package python-support 0.8.7ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: package python-support is already installed and configured

2010-10-21 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us
make Ubuntu better!

Can you elaborate a bit more on updating a neglected system.

What we need is information to help reproduce this problem. Given that
jaunty support will be ended in 3 days, its hard to justify much effort
to reproduce the issue, but maybe if you can show the exact sequence
that led to this situation, we can reproduce on newer supported releases
and fix the issue.

Marking Incomplete pending a response from Peter.

[Bug 601709] Re: Laptop goes to sleep right after plugging/unplugging power cord

2010-10-21 Thread DaneM
Thanks for the continued interest in this bug. The computer that I'm
writing about is my wife's school laptop; as such, I can't reload a new
operating system on it during the semester (which ends in late
December). Do you think it would be sufficient/helpful for me to test
it using a live CD or USB drive? It took some tweaking to get Ubuntu to
load on this laptop (after Karmic), including some kernel/boot options
to make the video not lock up on boot (black screen). I'm pretty sure I
can get it to boot and run a test, but I'd first like to know if this
method of testing would be helpful. Thanks!

tail -n0 -f /var/log/syslog /tmp/syslog

then turn on bluetooth and type in a terminal:

then turn off bluetooth and type in a terminal:

then attach syslog, which will be located in /tmp, to this bug report.

[Bug 660299] Re: Missing dependency

2010-10-21 Thread Gard Spreemann
Hi Pepe,

I don't think what you're experiencing is related to this bug. At least
adding a new feed works fine here. I'd recommend starting gpodder from a
terminal so that you can watch for any error messages. Alternatively,
I'd try working with a fresh config file (just rename ~/.config/gpodder
so that you can rename it back after testing) to see if that changes
anything.

If not even the last option works, you should file a new bug, perhaps at
bugs.gpodder.org.

[Bug 663526] Re: X crashes on VLC open file dialog

2010-10-21 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
So it is a segmentation fault in X.

VLC complains about a buggy server because it exposes a non-functional
MIT-SHM extension. This is a long-standing bug in the OpenSSH X11
display export. But this cannot justify that Xorg is crashing.

[Bug 620313] Re: [hamster plugin] not start tracking tasks

2010-10-21 Thread wimpunk
@rbertran,

It looks like your patch has, just like mine, a problem with tags. If
you submit your tags, they get added with a # in front. I also didn't
got the categories working but I may be overlooking something.
