Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba-common Hello all I'm suggesting to add line 'read only = no' for Profiles share in default smb.conf file. Then the complete share def looked like ;[profiles] ; comment = Users profiles ; path = /home/samba/profiles ; guest ok = no ; browseable = no ; create mask = 0600 ; directory mask = 0700 ; read only = no The reason is simply I spent two days figuring out why my Samba PDC did not work. That line was missing. Not very clever, I know. (Profile share must be writable if used) Still I'd like to save others from the same error. Samba is working exactly as it is designed, by having the system level configuration file override any ephemeral shares created with the net command. I tried to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 10.10, and it happened as mentioned above. Nautilus-share should warn the user that their share name conflicts with a system level share. As such, I'm reassigning this bug back to nautilus-share, and marking it as Confirmed. Please comment on your reasons for reassigning it. After reading the contents of all of the log files in the attached zip file, I don't see where samba was removed. In fact, it appears it was already removed when apt got involved. There seems to be a missing log that would have been generated when the upgrade is done. Its non-trivial to reproduce this, as someone will have to install hardy, install samba on it, and then upgrade to lucid. RedScourge, can you provide any more artifacts before someone has to go through the effort of reproducing? Specifically can you state the exact steps you took to Upgrade from Hardy to Lucid ? Adding work-intensive tag and regression-release tag. Setting status to Incomplete pending answer on exact upgrade steps. Can you please verify that /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/reqtimeout.load points to a real file that loads that module? It should look something like this: LoadModule reqtimeout_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_reqtimeout.so And also check that /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/reqtimeout.conf has content in it to configure that module. If the .conf file is there, but the .load file is not, that is your problem. You will need to re-create the file in /etc/apache2/mods- available and then run 'sudo a2enmod reqtimeout'. A simpler solution, if you don't want request timeouts, is to just run 'sudo a2dismod reqtimeout'. Surely a separate bug report should be fired against smbclient but this bug may
be relatively easy workarounded in autofs5 auto.smb/auto.cifs maps.

As you can see, the share named документы (this is russian word
meaning documents) gets lost when smbclient is being executed with C
locale resulting in totally incorrect output Disk|Disk|documents| - in
fact this should be two lines, one for Disk|документы| somehow mangled
to be ASCII-friendly, and another one for Disk|documents|. Yes, this
is a bug in smbclient that should be reported at a separate bug report.
To workaround this bug one may always use UFT-8 locale when running
smbclient and optionally converting the output using something like
iconv -f utf8 -t ascii -c | grep -v 'Disk||' .
My approach was for to modify auto.smb/auto.cifs by adding 'export
LANG=en_US.UTF-8' to the top of the file in order to fetch correct
shares list. Then some modifications should be done to the awk script
parsing the output:

Issue: Ran a clean install (told installer to erase drive) of 10.10. No issues noted during install, reached end of install process and received the need to reboot message. Upon restart, the Dell splash screen appeared but then the screen went blank with a blinking cursor. Removing / including the USB DVD did not resolve. I have just encountered this problem too. I am running Kubuntu 10.04 on VMWare Player 3.1.2 on a Windows XP Pro machine. Kubuntu performed the updates and then I got the udevadm trigger... report. I am facing issues with the various suggestions here and elsewhere though. After the udevadm trigger message it drops to the initramfs command line ls /boot simply says no such directory I have the kubuntu iso mounted within the VMWare player however, when rebooting the Kubuntu VM, there is no repsonse to the F2 or ESC key so it passes straight through to the udevadm trigger message everytime (the VMWare restart screen does appear for a second or so with the message at the bottom re F2 for SETUP, F12 etc. ESC for Boot Menu). I'm a little stuck as to ideas as I'd rather not lose that Kubuntu VM setup. Thanks for your swift reaction. I'll answer your question a bit later, cause right now I'm far from the computer with the Ubunto installation that showed the bug. Now only I can say, that I made exactly the actions described in the Help provided - by the menu. It's needed to say, that before the later, I made the overall uptating through the command-line sudo. This operation was recomended by some site, which I found after a failed trial to install the packages java-sdk, eclipse, netbeans and anjuta. Grace does not get stuck in an infinite loop. What happens is that a window in the background asking for the permission to overwrite comes up, waiting for an answer. Now, since the request panel doesn't show up in front of the device panel it looks like grace is stuck in the loop. To try, repeat all your steps. In the last one, when grace appears to be stuck, move the device panel on a side. A dialog panel with the confirmation request is there waiting for an answer. Either answer will unstuck the loop. [Bug 668643] [NEW] Setting USB Audio as primary sound device is a mess
Public bug reported: Using Kubuntu 10.10 Having a integrated sound card and plugging a USB Audio and setting it to the default in the Control Panel does not work in a general way, because the /dev/audio is still set to the onboard sound card and /dev/audio1 is still set to the usb device, instead of interchanging them. This causes some external programs like WINE to use always the /dev/audio or the integrated sound card. Furthermore, sometimes when rebooting the operating system or starting it with the USB audio unplugged it turns the onboard audio to the default, making my life impossible. In this cases, the system should give priority always to the most specific device, and preserve always that device in each moment that in plugged on. For example this may be a level of preference: USB audio PCI/PCMCIA sound onboard audio Because if you have a PCI sound is that you pretend to use it instead of the onboard, and if you plug a USB audio when you already have one is because you want to use it instead, sound more logical, unless specified otherwise in the control panel.
