[Bug 684051] [NEW] qemu-debootstrap doesn't parse --keyring correctly

2010-12-02 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

pbuilder passes arguments to qemu-debootstrap which it doesn't parse

correctly:

| # pbuilder --create --distribution sid --debootstrapopts --arch=armel
--debootstrap qemu-debootstrap

|...

| I: running qemu-debootstrap

| /usr/bin/qemu-debootstrap

| I: Running command: debootstrap --arch armel --foreign --include=apt
--variant=buildd --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg sid .
http://cdn.debian.net/debian
|...

| I: Running command: chroot sid /debootstrap/debootstrap --second-stage

| chroot: failed to run command `/debootstrap/debootstrap': No such file or
directory

| E: qemu-debootstrap failed

| W: Aborting with an error

The bug is qemu-debootstrap can parse --keyring=foo but not --keyring foo. It

shifts all the arguments up by one, and thinks sid is the target, rather than

the distribution.

Patch attached.

[Bug 445595] Re: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the connection

2010-12-02 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Got this error on maverick when I try to connect to a Time Capsule
(7.4.2). The error might be on the server side though since some
Windows workstation have random problems when connecting as well...

I had a look at wireshark and the Time Capsule does indeed respond with
an error. The Echo Request packet (0x2b) receives a Echo Response
(0x2b) with an NT status of 0x0002 (Unknown according to Wireshark):

   ff 53 4d 42 2b 02 00 ff ff 88 01 40 00 00 00 00

I don't know if smbclient should handle such a response or not.

[Bug 445595] Re: smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the connection

2010-12-02 Thread Malte S. Stretz
According to
  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee441884%28PROT.13%29.aspx
is 0x0002 STATUS_SMB_NO_SUPPORT.

As this is only an echo I guess smbclient should just ignore this error.
Can somebody please reopen this bug?

The bug could use a good test case. Please edit the main bug, start with TEST
CASE: and then describe how to show the problem exists before the upgrade and
how it's gone after (think small test procedure).

[Bug 684127] [NEW] virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session

2010-12-02 Thread nerling
Public bug reported:

Please report to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=659262 for more
information.
This Bug has a patch as in:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2010-December/msg00103.html

Description of problem:
If you do not specify the type of the disk in the driver subelement of domain
xml, virsh automatically inserts type raw, without testing for the real type of
the image.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
virsh 0.8.3
( Debian-backports 0.8.3-4~bpo50+1 )

How reproducible:
Everytime

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
Create a domain from a xml which disks have no driver element:
(SNIP /tmp/one-7050.xml)
disk type='file' device='disk'
source file='/var/lib/one/7035/images/disk.0'/
target dev='hda'/
model type='virtio'/
/disk
(SNIP)
$ onevm create /tmp/one-7035.xml
2.
Dump the xml of the domain:
$ onevm dumpxml one-7035
(SNIP)
  disk type='file' device='disk'
  driver name='qemu' type='raw'/
  source file='/var/lib/one/host1/images/disk.0'/
  target dev='hda' bus='ide'/
  alias name='ide0-0-0'/
  address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' unit='0'/
/disk
(SNIP)

Actual results:
driver name='qemu' type='raw'/
AND domain cannot boot from the disk
Expected results:
driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/ # or nothing at all
AND domain would boot as a charm.
Additional info:
This would be not a problem by manual generation of the domain xml file, since
we could simply insert it.
The problem will treat bad if we have a VMM generating this xml automatically..
as it is our fall, as we are using opennebula for this.

[Bug 684127] Re: virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session

This behavior changed in 0.8.3; automatic probing of disk formats is
considered a security vulnerability and is disabled by default.

It can be re-enabled manually or you can add the required driver element
into your domain xml files - see bug 656173 for more details.

[Bug 656173] Re: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores

2010-12-02 Thread nerling
I can see already a Problem with the opennebula package.
It will no longer work, since it does not generate this information on the
domain xmls - it would not have this information anyway - else if it would
probe for the data type of the image, this - we are being told - being a
security issue.
@Jamie: I think the OS *in the guest* should never ever have access to the file
of the image!
It should only have access to the virtualized disks, not to the file itself,
where the backingstore informations are.
If it is now so, then the issue is rooted in qemu/kvm and not in libvirt.

[Bug 656173] Re: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores

2010-12-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
@nerling:

Whatever is creating the domain XML (ie with 'create' or 'define') needs
to add the driver name='qemu' type='foo'/ bit, after which it is
stored in the XML. If OpenNebula creates virtual machines and adds them
to libvirt, it must be adjusted for this. If OpenNebula is creating
virtual machines, then it should know what type of disk format it is
creating. If it always creates one format, then it is easy-- OpenNebula
should just add driver name='qemu' type='opennubula's disk format'/.

While I am the one commenting on these changes, I would like to
reiterate that these are upstream changes and not Ubuntu specific. Yes,
the behavior was changed in Lucid because it can be a significant
security issue and Ubuntu users need to be protected. I suggest working
with OpenNebula upstream to see how they are handling libvirt's new
behavior, then patches can be applied to OpenNebula on Lucid (and
possibly Maverick, if it is affected also) in an SRU
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) or if the patch is simple
enough it can be published in the security queue like was done for
virtinst and vm-builder.

2010-12-02 Thread Scott Moser
It looks as if you've made some configuration changes to bind9 (possibly
running chroot'ed) that are causing the app armour profile to fail when
bind9 is [re]started.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor has more information on
Apparmour failures.

Note, that the app armour profile for bind9 does allow access to
/var/lib/bind/** but not to /var/lib/named.

What I observed is when starting the guest from a powered off position it boots
much faster as opposed to doing a reboot after it started. After every reboot
it kinda seems freezed for a good couple of seconds after the kernel loads
(removing quiet helps to see the kernel messages).
Seems like on every reboot it just gets slower and slower. After like 4-5
reboots, it takes 15-20 seconds to get over the kernel and go on with the boot
process.

This doesn't happen with a single CPU on the guest.

Not sure if it helps or not, but seems a bit strange. Maybe you want to
check this, does it really lock up, or it just takes a while to boot?

[Bug 669818] Re: Update to 10.04 2.6.32-25 as KVM Guest no longer boot

2010-12-02 Thread Imre Gergely
It seems to me the boot time after the reboot is related to the uptime
somehow... I'm up to 60second freeze now on one VM running a 10.04 64bit
guest with 3 CPUs. The kernel loads, then there's 60 seconds silence, when
nothing happens, and then it continues to boot.
If I stop the vm and restart it, the boot goes very fast. Strange indeed.

[Bug 684424] [NEW] Bridges are not transparent for packets

2010-12-02 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

Setup:

maverick (latest updates applied), libvirtd, kvm.

Host network setup:
br0, bridge-port eth0, ip assigned to br0.
eth0 up, promisc-mode.

br0-address: 192.168.1.4
br0-default gw: 192.168.1.1
br0-netmask: 255.255.255.192
br0-broadcast: 192.168.1.63

kvm added interface:
vnc0 up (this interface is not in promisc mode).

from the host:
ping 192.168.1.1 succeeds.

protocols using only mac (like NetBIOS) work. Devices connected to the
host are usable.

-

Within the virtual machine:
br0, bridge-port eth0, ip assigned to br0.
eth0 up, promiscuous-mode.

br0-address: 192.168.1.46
br0-default gw: 192.168.1.1
br0-netmask: 255.255.255.192
br0-broadcast: 192.168.1.63

within the virtual machine:
ping 192.168.1.4 succeeds.
ping 192.168.1.1 fails.

protocols using only mac (like NetBIOS) do not reach any device
connected to the host via Ethernet.

-

various further testing gave:
mac broadcasts from the guest are seen by the host, but not by any device
connected to the host.
The bridge is not transparent to mac broadcasts. But this is something a bridge
*has* to be!!
A bridge is defined to be transparent. Packets are transparently passed,
regardless of where they come from or they go to.

[Bug 684424] Re: Bridges are not transparent for packets

2010-12-02 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Setting promiscuous mode for all devices connected to the bridge does
not help. Trying to ping any system from the guest only shows the system
not reachable.

This error is, in my opinion, not only an annoying bug! It renders
kvm, qemu, xen, ... useless. It is something that has to be fixed!

The idea
route add default gw 192.168.1.4

and then trying
ping google.com succeeds.

But
ping 192.168.1.1 does not.

Quite clear: 192.168.1.1 lies within network 192.168.1.0/26! The host
*can* reach the gateway --- no routing necessary (for google.com it
was necessary: the answering host does not match the netmask. Packets go
out to 192.168.1.4, which in tune routes them to 192.168.1.1, which in
tune routes them to google.com --- but we're just avoiding the bridge
because it does not work as expected). Because icmp-messages Who has
do not make their way trough the bridge there will never be an answer.
Quite correct from the clients standpoint to tell host not available!

Hi, if there is a specific issue with the version in Ubuntu 10.04 that
can be fixed, we can get a fix into -updates. However, a general
request for a newer version of a package should be done via
'-backports'.

2010-12-02 Thread uggtodoor
Ugg boots are good. They have many advantages. One of the most important
features is that they are very comfortable and warm. Sheepskin ugg boots are
made. Because of the sheepskin, ugg boots are so soft and comfortable. For this
reason, they are very fashion. There are most flat ugg boots, and we also have
other styles of high heels.Wellcome to:

Re: [Bug 681598] Re: passwd doesn't work with pam_winbind

2010-12-02 Thread Jason Gunthorpe
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 570944 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570944

Unless someone has a plan to actually go and fix pam_unix, I'd suggest a
better idea is to update pam_winbind's /usr/share/pam-configs/winbind to get
rid of use_authtok.

The objection that this disables strength checking modules is fair, but in
practice nobody will care - the AD server already does strength checking.
That 'passwd' doesn't work AT ALL, is rather more serious and everyone using
winbind will ultimately care about that.

[Bug 604452] Re: Please sync enna 0.4.1~r3557-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-12-02 Thread Alexis Saettler
Hi.

I can reproduce the bug, but unfortunatly I didn't find where the problem is
... all the ecore lib, neither the libtool are the same version from maverick
to natty !
The patch Fabrice produce fix the problem. Here is an other version with the
use of some @..._LIBS@ replacements.

I'll try to figure out why the package FTBFS anyway. I don't understand
why it builds in maverick without adding the LD flags !!

Regards.

[Bug 683859] Re: Dock and panel disappear when starting the live cd environment

2010-12-02 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for reporting this bug and help to make ubuntu better.

Can you please use rather ubuntu-bug unity to report this issue? (or
let apport catch the crash as described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnityFilingBugs ?)

We can't easily exploit the crash file this way or we don't have your
hardware info, which is what is needed and automatically triggered by
ubuntu-bug unity.

Thanks a lot.

[Bug 54273] Re: USB device not accepting address: error -110

2010-12-02 Thread rfugger
I have this problem on two laptops: a HP 530 and a Compaq CQ61, when
plugging in my Sansa Clip music player, and also several times with
external hard drives. My usb memory stick works fine, so I suspect that
it only affects powered devices, as mentioned above.

I've had the issue on the HP since Karmic -- Intrepid and Jaunty worked
OK, so I consider this a regression on that machine. I wondered if it
was just flaky USB hardware, but now I have a new Compaq and it suffers
the same issue. I reinstalled Windows on the HP, and now the Sansa
connects just fine, so it is definitely a problem with Linux.

I've just attached the player to a few different ports on my Compaq,
with subtly different results in the logs, so I'm attaching them here.
