[Bug 684127] [NEW] virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session
Public bug reported: Please report to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=659262 for more information. This Bug has a patch as in: http://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2010-December/msg00103.html Description of problem: If you do not specify the type of the disk in the driver subelement of domain xml, virsh automatically inserts type raw, without testing for the real type of the image. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): virsh 0.8.3 ( Debian-backports 0.8.3-4~bpo50+1 ) How reproducible: Everytime Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a domain from a xml which disks have no driver element: (SNIP /tmp/one-7050.xml) disk type='file' device='disk' source file='/var/lib/one/7035/images/disk.0'/ target dev='hda'/ model type='virtio'/ /disk (SNIP) $ onevm create /tmp/one-7035.xml 2. Dump the xml of the domain: $ onevm dumpxml one-7035 (SNIP) disk type='file' device='disk' driver name='qemu' type='raw'/ source file='/var/lib/one/host1/images/disk.0'/ target dev='hda' bus='ide'/ alias name='ide0-0-0'/ address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' unit='0'/ /disk (SNIP) Actual results: driver name='qemu' type='raw'/ AND domain cannot boot from the disk Expected results: driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/ # or nothing at all AND domain would boot as a charm. Additional info: This would be not a problem by manual generation of the domain xml file, since we could simply insert it. The problem will treat bad if we have a VMM generating this xml automatically.. as it is our fall, as we are using opennebula for this. ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/684127 Title: virsh adds automatically type='raw' to a disk session -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 656173] Re: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores
I can see already a Problem with the opennebula package. It will no longer work, since it does not generate this information on the domain xmls - it would not have this information anyway - else if it would probe for the data type of the image, this - we are being told - being a security issue. @Jamie: I think the OS *in the guest* should never ever have access to the file of the image! It should only have access to the virtualized disks, not to the file itself, where the backingstore informations are. If it is now so, then the issue is rooted in qemu/kvm and not in libvirt. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656173 Title: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 656173] Re: libvirt no longer probes chained backing stores
@nerling: Whatever is creating the domain XML (ie with 'create' or 'define') needs to add the driver name='qemu' type='foo'/ bit, after which it is stored in the XML. If OpenNebula creates virtual machines and adds them to libvirt, it must be adjusted for this. If OpenNebula is creating virtual machines, then it should know what type of disk format it is creating. If it always creates one format, then it is easy-- OpenNebula should just add driver name='qemu' type='opennubula's disk format'/. While I am the one commenting on these changes, I would like to reiterate that these are upstream changes and not Ubuntu specific. Yes, the behavior was changed in Lucid because it can be a significant security issue and Ubuntu users need to be protected. I suggest working with OpenNebula upstream to see how they are handling libvirt's new behavior, then patches can be applied to OpenNebula on Lucid (and possibly Maverick, if it is affected also) in an SRU (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) or if the patch is simple enough it can be published in the security queue like was done for virtinst and vm-builder.

[Bug 669818] Re: Update to 10.04 2.6.32-25 as KVM Guest no longer boot
I've tried it on an Ubuntu 10.04 64bit host, with qemu-kvm 0.12.3 +noroms-0ubuntu9.2 , and a Lucid 64bit guest with kernel 2.6.32-26. Host is an AMD Phenom II X3 720, not exactly an Opteron but it's AMD. What I observed is when starting the guest from a powered off position it boots much faster as opposed to doing a reboot after it started. After every reboot it kinda seems freezed for a good couple of seconds after the kernel loads (removing quiet helps to see the kernel messages). Seems like on every reboot it just gets slower and slower. After like 4-5 reboots, it takes 15-20 seconds to get over the kernel and go on with the boot process. This doesn't happen with a single CPU on the guest. Not sure if it helps or not, but seems a bit strange. Maybe you want to check this, does it really lock up, or it just takes a while to boot? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669818 Title: Update to 10.04 2.6.32-25 as KVM Guest no longer boot -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 684424] [NEW] Bridges are not transparent for packets
Public bug reported: Setup: maverick (latest updates applied), libvirtd, kvm. Devices connected to the host are usable. - Within the virtual machine: br0, bridge-port eth0, ip assigned to br0. eth0 up, promiscuous-mode. br0-address: 192.168.1.46 br0-default gw: 192.168.1.1 br0-netmask: 255.255.255.192 br0-broadcast: 192.168.1.63 within the virtual machine: ping 192.168.1.4 succeeds. ping 192.168.1.1 fails. protocols using only mac (like NetBIOS) do not reach any device connected to the host via Ethernet. - various further testing gave: mac broadcasts from the guest are seen by the host, but not by any device connected to the host. The bridge is not transparent to mac broadcasts. But this is something a bridge *has* to be!! A bridge is defined to be transparent. Packets are transparently passed, regardless of where they come from or they go to. [Bug 684424] Re: Bridges are not transparent for packets
Setting promiscuous mode for all devices connected to the bridge does not help. Trying to ping any system from the guest only shows the system not reachable. This error is, in my opinion, not only an annoying bug! It renders kvm, qemu, xen, ... useless. It is something that has to be fixed! The idea route add default gw 192.168.1.4 and then trying ping google.com succeeds. But ping 192.168.1.1 does not. Quite clear: 192.168.1.1 lies within network 192.168.1.0/26! The host *can* reach the gateway --- no routing necessary (for google.com it was necessary: the answering host does not match the netmask. Packets go out to 192.168.1.4, which in tune routes them to 192.168.1.1, which in tune routes them to google.com --- but we're just avoiding the bridge because it does not work as expected). Because icmp-messages Who has do not make their way trough the bridge there will never be an answer. Quite correct from the clients standpoint to tell host not available! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/684424 Title: Bridges are not transparent for packets -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 681598] Re: passwd doesn't work with pam_winbind
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 570944 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570944 Unless someone has a plan to actually go and fix pam_unix, I'd suggest a better idea is to update pam_winbind's /usr/share/pam-configs/winbind to get rid of use_authtok. The objection that this disables strength checking modules is fair, but in practice nobody will care - the AD server already does strength checking. That 'passwd' doesn't work AT ALL, is rather more serious and everyone using winbind will ultimately care about that. [Bug 54273] Re: USB device not accepting address: error -110
I have this problem on two laptops: a HP 530 and a Compaq CQ61, when plugging in my Sansa Clip music player, and also several times with external hard drives. My usb memory stick works fine, so I suspect that it only affects powered devices, as mentioned above. I've had the issue on the HP since Karmic -- Intrepid and Jaunty worked OK, so I consider this a regression on that machine. I wondered if it was just flaky USB hardware, but now I have a new Compaq and it suffers the same issue. I reinstalled Windows on the HP, and now the Sansa connects just fine, so it is definitely a problem with Linux.
