[Bug 620441] Re: MySQL upstart stop job does not cleanly shutdown mysql
I tried it with a simplified test case with just DELETEing a lot of data from the table with 1.5mil rows. The DELETE command took like a minute and a half to return. After it returned, I immediately did 'stop mysql' and saw the KILL message in the daemon.log after ~5 seconds. After I started mysql again, I got the recovery messages in /var/log/mysql/error.log like this: InnoDB: Log scan progressed past the checkpoint lsn 0 241337601 101205 23:35:25 InnoDB: Database was not shut down normally! InnoDB: Starting crash recovery. InnoDB: Reading tablespace information from the .ibd files... InnoDB: Restoring possible half-written data pages from the doublewrite InnoDB: buffer... With the mysql package from -proposed (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.8) when I issued 'stop mysql' after DELETE, it was just sitting there, nothing in daemon.log, and in mysql/error.log I got 101205 23:51:25 [Note] Event Scheduler: Purging the queue. 0 events 101205 23:51:27 InnoDB: Starting shutdown... 101205 23:51:40 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 258830313 101205 23:51:40 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete so it was waiting for InnoDB to finish whatever it was doing (that took 13 seconds) and then it stopped. After starting mysql up again there was obviously no recovery needed. I agree with #15 -- this needs to be fixed in ASAP (and it should be fixed in the LTS version!) [Bug 573853] Re: Cannot control squid Unknown instance
There seems to be some confusion over the way these squid processes operates. In your trace: root 14719 0.0 0.0 24796 1076 ? Ss 14:26 0:00 /usr/sbin/squid proxy 14721 2.2 0.2 40212 10352 ? Sl 14:26 0:00 (squid) the process /usr/sbin/squid is a daemon supervisor. Ensuring worker (squid) process remains running and restarting it on failures. Adding upstart to manage this manager process is redundant. Using -N is the correct way to start squid up to version 3.1 without the supervisor/master process. 3.2+ with multiple workers will require changes in either upstart or squid to integrate them better, but the -N mode is still available meanwhile to disable the SMP support. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to squid in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573853 Title: Cannot control squid Unknown instance -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 681752] Re: [IBM T42] Cannot resume after suspend
I also have a T42 and recently upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 and had the same problem - on resume I would have a TTY login appear, but no recognition of the keyboard. I would hold the power button and force the laptop to restart or shutdown. If you follow the diagnostic process on this wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Other - it is clear that the problem is not fixed by changing the kernel. Here is the relevant list of commands from the wiki that I tried to determine this: Log out of X, and log into the console, and try suspend/resume (or hibernate, or whatever) from there Running /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh or /etc/acpi/sleep.sh should do it If it does not come up ok, the failure is in the kernel rather than X Test if caps lock works; whether this works determines how bad the kernel failure is I did that and it does come up ok, so the problem is with X since the upgrade, not the new kernel. (Before determining this, I tried various kernel versions 2.6.32, 2.6.35-22, 2.6.36 and the problem remained.) What 'fixed' the problem for me was editing /etc/default/acpi-support I changed the SUSPEND_METHODS=X line to another method. It doesn't seem to matter which, I have tried both SUSPEND_METHODS=dbus-hal and SUSPEND_METHODS=none and after logging out and back in, resume works after suspend. I can't explain why this works, since I have gnome-power-manager daemon running, and I choose suspend from the gnome desktop menu, which invokes this daemon for suspending. The acpi-support SUSPEND_METHODS setting should not have any effect, but changing it clearly does fix the problem. I still briefly see the following error when resuming, but X restarts ok and the desktop is back to its previous state: pm_op(): pci_pn_resume+0x0/0xa0 returns -16 PM: Device :00:00.0 failed to resume async: error -16 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681752 Title: [IBM T42] Cannot resume after suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575319] Re: Music doesn't play correctly in pingus
A person over here has reported they worked around the problem by converting all the IT music files to ogg vorbis files, and replacing the IT files in the data directory. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1505674 I'm not a Ubuntu user, but I'm seeing the same problem occur in Debian with pingus version 0.7.3 for which the packaging is probably very similar. Interestingly it occurs on my 32 bit laptop, but not the amd64 desktop (for the same 0.7.3 version). I haven't confirmed that all dependencies are the same version, but I did make sure I had all the latest ones installed on my laptop, to no effect. (Unfortunately the desktop PC is in a shipping crate, so I can't check it right now.) I thought it might be something to do with my laptop's mono/stereo not working properly, such as if everything meant for one side was not being played. I ruled this out once I found some stereo headphones, and confirmed that the half of the notes that do play are coming through alternate sides, so it's not the left side or the right side being blocked out. I downloaded the pingus source tar.gz for 0.7.3 and recompiled it, and am seeing exactly the same problem when built from the upstream source, so it's probably an upstream issue, unless it's to do with one of the libraries like libsdl-mixer or anything similar. I was meaning to check the pingus-devel mailing list, but their archive's offline right now for some reason. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575319 Title: Music doesn't play correctly in pingus -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since I am capable of alt-tabbing at 5+ keypresses per-second (if the LIFO order is predictable - see bug #682973) the fading and alt-tab system needs to give a reliable visual response within the window between subsequent Alt-tab invocations. If the user is working ahead of the display system intermediate drawing steps should be dropped and only the cumulative state shown to the user. To reproduce: 1. Press Alt-tab lots (eg. 20+ times at 5-10 Hz) 2. Release over the window of your choice Expected: that window immediately appears usable within 100 milliseconds Actual: Alt-tab pager carries on catching up with the user (and since there at multiple windows open this is statistically unlikely to be the window that the user released on). The many-many-presses is an extreme example but hopefully clearly demonstrates the disconnect between the user's input and the tab pager/fade system. -- Sam Spilsbury -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/683635 Title: remove fade from the compiz plugin list -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 658726] Re: Bluefish under Unity is missing menu bar
I also have this bug when running bluefish on a fresh UNR 10.10 install on a HPMini 110. I don't have much else to add to what Bill has already said, my screen looks that same. It's a shame as bluefish is one of my most commonly used applications which works perfectly on the regular desktop version of Ubuntu. When starting bluefish from a command line i get the following messages, none of which seem to indicate any problem; jwat...@jwatson-mini:~$ bluefish current directory=/home/jwatson test if rcfile directory /home/jwatson/.bluefish exists create socket /tmp/bluefish-jwatson-:0.0 plugins are loaded from /usr/lib/bluefish/ plugins are loaded from /home/jwatson/.bluefish/ load language files from /home/jwatson/.bluefish/ load language files from /usr/share/bluefish/bflang/ htmlbar_build_menu, finished I've tried clicking around where the menu should be but am unable to get any drop downs to appear. So far this is the only bug I've found on UNR, which was put on the netbook as a trial before installing the regular version of Ubuntu - but it looks like it might be staying on here :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658726 Title: Bluefish under Unity is missing menu bar -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
