[Bug 719239] [NEW] Debconf should give a warning about .my.conf

2011-02-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: debconf

While configuring a package that will access mysql database, the mysql
client will use .my.cnf file and if there's a password= line in it it
will take precedence over the entered password in the dialog box. A
warning about .my.cnf would be a nice idea. I spent two hours trying to
figure out why my password was rejected in debconf but it worked with
mysql -u root -p in command line. :)

I imagine that the upstream developers will be a lot more interested in
whether it's technically a good idea and maintainable, than whether
companies need it - that's the usual pattern.

You could build your own openssh packages with that patch applied,

Of course. The problem is that the program is sending the command
infinitely, probably because of the EIO.

 Some more questions:

 Refer to § II, section 3:
 http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/nut.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/nut.README.Debian;hb=HEAD

/etc/udev/rules.d/zzzlpc.rules:
KERNEL==ttyS2,   OWNER=nut,  GROUP=nut,   MODE=0660

The serial line is on a PCI board. It may be a problem of that board,
not the UPS. Which is cleared by closing the device.

I found no code that does five attempts. But this code in main.c,
starting on Line 618:

while (!exit_flag) {

struct timeval  timeout;

gettimeofday(timeout, NULL);
timeout.tv_sec += poll_interval;

upsdrv_updateinfo();

while (!dstate_poll_fds(timeout, extrafd)  !exit_flag) {
/* repeat until time is up or extrafd has data */

upsdrv_updateinfo() calls smartmode().

dstate_poll_fds() checks if there is any file descriptor that is
available. In our case:

select(7, [4 5 6], NULL, NULL, {1, 999837}) = 1 (in [4], left {1,
999835})

FD 4 is the serial line, which is passed to dstate_poll_fds() as
extrafd.

When there is data that can be read from the UPS no code in
dstate_poll_fds() reads from extrafd, there is only code that reads
from the other input FDs. The outer loop above also ignores extrafd.
exit_flag is never set, so it continues. And because there is an active
file descriptor, the select returns immediately (actually it takes two
microseconds).

The solution is to add code that reads all data from extrafd and discards
it because nobody asked for it. I would also close and reopen the serial
line in smartmode(). I would prepare a patch if I knew more about the
I/O abstractions used in the nut driver code. Sorry.

HTH,

2011-02-15 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Fabio,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
better.

I can confirm this behavior trying to install qemu-system on a machine
where the latest qemu-kvm is installed. Apparently, qemu-kvm continues
to ship qemu-system-ppc64 when it should only be shipped by qemu-system.

roaksoax@shift:/var/cache/apt/archives$ dpkg -c
qemu-kvm_0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu15_amd64.deb | grep system-ppc64
-rwxr-xr-x root/root   3440880 2011-02-11 16:32 ./usr/bin/qemu-system-ppc64

roaksoax@shift:/var/cache/apt/archives$ dpkg -c
qemu-system_0.13.50-2011.02-0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb | grep system-ppc64
-rwxr-xr-x root/root   3829560 2011-02-07 16:04 ./usr/bin/qemu-system-ppc64
lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2011-02-07 15:59
./usr/share/man/man1/qemu-system-ppc64.1.gz - qemu-system.1.gz

Marking this bug as confirmed.

[Bug 719448] [NEW] The once parameter does not work with -boot

2011-02-15 Thread Deric Sullivan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Package: qemu-kvm

The once parameter does not seem to work with the -boot option.

To reproduce:
create an image file to be used as a hard disk:
qemu-img create test-img 1G

Starting a VM guest using once + order ignores the once:
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -hda test-img -m 4G -smp 2 -enable-kvm -vnc
127.0.0.1:1 -name test-vm -boot order=c,once=n

Starting a VM guest using once ignores the once:
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -hda test-img -m 4G -smp 2 -enable-kvm -vnc
127.0.0.1:1 -name test-vm -boot once=n

Starting a VM guest without once works fine:
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -hda test-img -m 4G -smp 2 -enable-kvm -vnc
127.0.0.1:1 -name test-vm -boot order=n

# lsb_release -rd

# apt-cache policy qemu-kvm
qemu-kvm:
  Installed: 0.12.3+noroms-0ubuntu9.3

Thanks for the help, Deric

[Bug 710319] Re: CPU usage is incorrect on server-status page

2011-02-15 Thread Stefan Bader
I took the kernel version that currently is in updates (2.6.32-28.55) and added
the backport of the patch I was mentioning above. All the kernel packages are
at: http://people.canonical.com/~smb/lp710319/.
There are packages for all kinds of installations, so don't worry you will only
need to download 3. What you need is basically the linux-headers-*all* package
and the a linux-headers and linux-image for your installed architecture and
flavor (the latter you can find out with uname -r). The you do a sudo dpkg -i
files with the three files and you have installed the test kernel (I test
booted the amd64, generic one which does at least not explode in a heap for me).
After rebooting you should see the lp710319 in uname -a and then it would be
interesting to hear whether that still gives the wrong apache stats.

[Bug 594840] Re: Many connection_read(): no connection! warnings from OpenLDAP server when using ldapi:/// and a bind DN (no external authentication)

2011-02-15 Thread Marcio Merlone
This affects not just logging, but it seems to affect search capability
from some clients. For instance, my thunderbird addressbook fails
occasionally. Simultaneously on the client error, I get these error
messages on syslog:

slapd[29694]: SASL [conn=1577] Failure: realm changed: authentication aborted
slapd[29694]: connection_read(46): no connection!

This is happening not all times with all users on my network (about 100

2011-02-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package qemu-kvm - 0.14.0~rc1+noroms-0ubuntu1

---
qemu-kvm (0.14.0~rc1+noroms-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  [ Serge Hallyn ]
  * Merge qemu-kvm 0.14.0-rc1
  * removed all rom's
  * removed tests/pi_10.com as it's binary data
  * removed 697197-fix-vnc-password-semantics.patch in favor of upstream fix
  * removed caps-lock-key-up-event.patch - upstream commit
9a121a2fbf88dd1bc869b1ac2449dc12c27cccfa is supposed to fix it
- bdrung to verify
  * removed 1000-undo-earlier-static.patch
- re-add if build fails - but we no longer do static build
  * removed 2000-vmmouse-adapt-to-mouse-handler-changes.patch, now upstream
  * removed arm patches - qemu-kvm now only offers x86 and ppc emulation
- qemu-user provides armel
  * kvmtrace_format is now shipped with different tree.

  [ Dustin Kirkland ]
  * Re-roll tarball, adding ~rc1 to version, so that the official GA release
will supercede these rc's
  * debian/control: bump standards versions, remove redundant depends on
adduser, update section to misc
  * debian/rules: drop qemu-system-ppc64 from the build, as this is in
qemu-linaro now, LP: #717690
  * debian/copyright: embed the BSD license, per lintian

  [ Steve Langasek ]
  * debian/rules: drop the binfmt-misc handling; we're not building any
static user binaries from this source, so this is just noise.
  * debian/rules: $INSTALL_PROGRAM is never set, so modifying it is
pointless.  Delete this as well.
  * build qemu-kvm package on all archs; this is the authoritative package
for x86 system emulators, so we only have to deal with the bios
dependencies in one place.
  * don't run 'make install' in kvm/libkvm directory, this is a no-op anyway.

[Bug 719547] [NEW] euca2ools doesn't parse EC2_URL correctly

2011-02-15 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: euca2ools

The EC2_URL shell variable holds an URL to an EC2 or Eucalyptus
endpoint.

There is a problem with the URL parsing code where, if said URL doesn't
contain a port number, it thinks the whole URL is a hostname.

Example (with fake keys on purpose):

export
EC2_URL=https://staging.landscape.canonical.com/cloud/ec2/landscape-devel/amra-uec/dev1;
export EC2_SECRET_KEY=1
export EC2_ACCESS_KEY=1

$ euca-describe-regions
(wait a long time).
[Errno -2] Name or service not known

Now change the EC2_URL so that is also includes the port number:
export
EC2_URL=https://staging.landscape.canonical.com:443/cloud/ec2/landscape-devel/amra-uec/dev1;

And the expected answer comes right away:
$ euca-describe-regions
AuthFailure: No user with access key '1'

A packet sniffer shows that without the port number in the URL, euca2ools is
trying to resolve the wrong hostname:
  0.00 10.0.1.7 - 10.0.1.1 DNS Standard query
staging.landscape.canonical.com/cloud/ec2/landscape-devel/amra-uec/dev1
  0.009434 10.0.1.1 - 10.0.1.7 DNS Standard query response, No such
name
  0.028092 10.0.1.7 - 10.0.1.1 DNS Standard query A
staging.landscape.canonical.com/cloud/ec2/landscape-devel/amra-uec/dev1
  0.048702 10.0.1.1 - 10.0.1.7 DNS Standard query response, No such
name

I tried with both euca2ools 1.2-0ubuntu10.1 from lucid and
1.3.1-0ubuntu5 from natty.

[Bug 672177] Re: libc6 upgrade causes umount to fail on shutdown because init cannot be restarted

2011-02-15 Thread Paul Crawford
Well it is not yet fixed for 10.04 with the 'proposed' updates. Tonight
just rebooted after updates to kernal 2.6.32-29 and guess what? Yes, my
syslog contained the following sort of message:

Feb 15 21:45:24 paul-ubuntu kernel: [2.341704] EXT4-fs (sda5): 4
orphan inodes deleted

So is 'proposed' still part of the 10.04.2 to be released, or will the
fix come soon as mentioned for the 10.04.3 CD?

Paul, I'm sorry you're still having issues.

This is all covered in the previous comments, but to summarize:

There is still a pending change to sysvinit to make sure the umounts
wait for upstart to re-exec itself. There are also a couple more bugs
covering daemons that need to be shutdown, namely, sshd and portmap.

10.04.3 should have all of these fixes, and they should be available
soon as updates to 10.04.* as well.

Please excuse me if I sound curt, but there is something you can do
about this. You can forward this bug report upstream. You shouldn't

I could, but it's more efficient for you to file a bug there directly so you
can answer any questions they have directly without someone who has nothing to
contribute to the solution playing middle man.

If you want it fixed (they are usually pretty responsive), file the bug.
It's your choice.

[Bug 710319] Re: CPU usage is incorrect on server-status page

2011-02-15 Thread tinodj
Hi,

Thanks for taking care of this and preparing files, as well as manual
how to do it.

uname -a
Linux mail 2.6.32-28-server #55+lp710319v1 SMP Tue Feb 15 09:01:19 UTC 2011
x86_64 GNU/Linux

Apache CPU Usage after some threads die (e.g. after gracefull reload)
still is NOT correct.

Probably the bug is somewhere else ?!

Regarding the kernel I have following questions:
Is it for me safe to keep this kernel version?
Will I get regular update when one is available on ubuntu repository?

Thanks...

[Bug 719833] [NEW] ssh upstart job fails to actually bring up ssh

2011-02-15 Thread Kees Cook

Feb 15 22:51:32 router init: ssh main process (915) terminated with status 255
Feb 15 22:51:32 router init: ssh respawning too fast, stopped

I do not bind to 0.0.0.0, so I must have networking up fully before ssh
can start. Because filesystem happens before networking has
started, the job fails. We might want to consider changing the upstart
job to:

start on filesystem and started networking

[Bug 634487] Re: t1.micro instance hangs when installing java

2011-02-15 Thread Peter Deak
Does anyone know how to recover from this issue temporarily? After
requesting the install once, no matter what apt-get command I do, I get:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure
-a' to correct the problem.

When I run that command, the hang occurs again and again. I cannot
install or update anything else.

Re: [Bug 535583] Excessive logging by apcsmart program

2011-02-15 Thread Lupe Christoph
On Tuesday, 2011-02-15 at 13:16:58 -, Arnaud Quette wrote:

 this is not the problem. This code is in the smartmode() function of
 apcsmart.c:
 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/nut/trunk/drivers/apcsmart.c

 we see the 5 attempts to go to smart mode ('Y' command), but my aim is to
 understand why it is failing, and how to cleanly solve this without
 impacting support for other units.

I found no code that does five attempts. But this code in main.c,
starting on Line 618:

while (!exit_flag) {

struct timeval  timeout;

gettimeofday(timeout, NULL);
timeout.tv_sec += poll_interval;

upsdrv_updateinfo();

while (!dstate_poll_fds(timeout, extrafd)  !exit_flag) {
/* repeat until time is up or extrafd has data */

upsdrv_updateinfo() calls smartmode().

dstate_poll_fds() checks if there is any file descriptor that is

Sorry.

HTH,
Lupe Christoph

[Bug 237341]

2011-02-15 Thread Bienvenu
(In reply to comment #15)

 I've no idea, though, whether the current i18n/l10n structures allow for a
 choice like this. Maybe this would need to be a (hidden?) preference, with
 corresponding UI strings to be translated for both paradigms.

l10n has no control over this, so it would have to be a pref the
localizations could set. But I'm pretty sure I've heard english-language
user complain about this, if not in bugzilla, at least in Get
Satisfaction issues.

[Bug 719357] [NEW] xchat-gnome tab completion broken in natty

2011-02-15 Thread Claire Newman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

After upgrading to natty, tab completion no longer works reliably in
xchat-gnome. Sometimes if you type enough of a nickname to be unique
and then press 'tab' (e.g. 'elmtab'), you get offered the same
nickname twice (e.g. 'elmo elmo'). There doesn't appear to be a pattern
(e.g. nickname length or number of channels we're both in) as to when it
works or when it breaks.

[Bug 719356] [NEW] visudo doesn’t handle includedir apparently

2011-02-15 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sudo

Hello! I noticed that recently a new “/etc/sudoers.d” directory was
added, as well as the “/etc/sudoers.dpkg-dist” file. A comment in the
latter encourages me to put any modifications to “/etc/sudoers” in a
separate file inside the new directory, and use the “includedir”
directive to use it. It also insists that all modifications to
“/etc/sudoers” be done with “visudo”.

I tried doing this without success. I used “visudo -f” to create a file
containing my customizations in “/etc/sudoers.d”, and it worked (at
least I didn’t get any complaints).

Then I tried to replace my old “/etc/sudoers” with the version left by
dpkg, except uncommenting the “includedir” directive. I did this using
visudo, but it complains with “/etc/sudoers: syntax error near line 25”
(that’s the line with “includedir” if counting from 0, or the blank line
immediately before it if counting from 1).

I think this means that “visudo” doesn’t understand “includedir”, which
is probably a bug.

The files I tried to use are pasted below. (My current “/etc/sudoers” is
practically the same thing: the alias specifications are below the “#
Cmnd alias specification” comment, and the “bogdanb” line is where the
“includedir” directive would be.)

[Bug 718488] Re: package etcinsvk 1.0 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2011-02-15 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 574192] Re: Japanese E-mobile D26HW (carrier customized Huawei UMTS modem) fails to connect (regression from karmic)

2011-02-15 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Rolf, I expect you should be able to get this to work by using just an
updated usb-modeswitch on Lucid (not modemmanager), can you confirm you
tried that?

I expect most of what's needed (aside from the recreation of profiles,
which seems pretty unusual), is the modeswitch bits (so the modem is
seen as a serial device/modem), and maybe the udev rules from Maverick's
version of MM for which driver the modem should use.

Unfortunately, I don't have such a device so I can't help so easily.
