[Bug 703009] Re: grub-probe: error: cannot stat `aufs'.

2011-04-29 Thread phinn
Not sure if this is my exact problem but 11.04 completely trashed my
bootloader. I've run Ubutnu for years and years on my main machine and
now dual boot Win7 and 11.04... At the end of the install I got this
same grub error and no bootloader would install. Upon reboot I would get
the recovery screen which is absolutely useless.

[Bug 689816] Re: ubiquity migration assistant did not unmount other Linux volumes

2011-04-29 Thread Jonathan Vargas
I do confirm this problem. The installation doesn't finish even when
Ubuntu installer says it does. I receive a grub problem when trying to
boot.

I need to specify a /home partition but when I do so migration-assistant
runs then everything fails.

  Graphics: ATI X1270 (RS690M)

On a fresh install of Kubuntu, when I can run glxgears. It works properly.
When I install the Broadcom STA Wireless Driver with the Additional Drivers
GUI, glxgears stops working, the window is blank. 2D performance is also
affected, all windows are redrawn noticably slower.
After uninstalling the wireless driver and restarting, glxgears works again.

I tried to boot to Xubuntu 10.10 x86 Live CD. I can reproduce the

[Bug 773886] [NEW] 3 finger drag/move (love handles) unresponsive

2011-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Do a 3 finger touch right in the middle of a window to make the love
handles appear. Now raise all your fingers so none are touching the
touchpad, and then touch them all down again to continue the window
drag/move operation. The window doesn't move at all, and won't do until
you let the love handles time out and disappear. Then you can try again.

Surely I should be allowed to change my mind as to where I want to move
the window while I'm doing so? This happens surprisingly frequently in
normal usage.

Note that the new dpkg also refuses to install such a package. So it's

[Bug 752792] Re: Internal microphone not working in natty with VAIO VPCSB

2011-04-29 Thread David Henningsson
It is not yet released in Natty, when it will, this bug should be
noticed. As for upgrading to newer ALSA versions, I generally recommend
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa - although the daily builds
are not yet up for Natty, so there is no really good option there yet.

[Bug 759529] Re: iwlagn degrades quickly during normal wifi session

2011-04-29 Thread Matthew Walden
I experienced this error yesterday but have been having wireless issues
today without this message.

Although I can see from /var/log/syslog that it is disconnecting and
reconnecting, if I disable ipv6 with the following sysctl settings it
has so far prevented the GUI network manager from going into a infinite
reconnecting loop -

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

I should say that I am not a Linux expert so this has just been through
'nothing ventured nothing gained' testing on my own machine. I noticed
some warnings about ipv6 and I know I don't use it so it made sense to
see whether disabling it helped.

===
1. wubildr on /dev/sda2 will be updated (that's C:)
2. grub modules added to /boot/grub
3. /boot/grub/grub.cfg changes as expected with new modules present.
4. No prompt to install grub to /dev/sda

Results:
=
1. wubildr on /dev/sda2 not updated
2. grub modules not added to /boot/grub
3. /boot/grub/grub.cfg not changed
4. There was no prompt to install grub to /dev/sda

(grub is now version 1.98-1ubuntu12)

Conclusion:

This will stop this bug (installing grub to drive MBR). But I expected
wubildr to be updated. Maybe my expectation is incorrect, but there is still
a distinct difference between wubi installed to the same partition as
windows (/host/wubildr exists), and when it doesn't.

[Bug 557775] Re: Persistent Storage option always greyed out

2011-04-29 Thread David Gamino
This workaround worked for me too. Many thanks.

Copy your ISO image to /tmp or somewhere else not automatically
destected by usb-creator.

Choose 'Other' and select that ISO

Select that image from the listing

Now it's not greyed out anymore and you can also go back to select your
original image and it will be good.

[Bug 773867] [NEW] menu bar corrupted and unreadable. still works.

2011-04-29 Thread Andrew Davie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The top menu bar has corrupted. No icon or text is legible. However the
items in the bar still work. For example, I can click where the time
display *was* and I get the calendar dropdown. But the time is not
visible on the menu bar anymore -- just a graduated stippled corruption.
I also notice a "blank" icon space in the unity bar left of screen -
-not sure if that is related. When I do the workspace switcher, the
menu bar on those 4 screens is identically corrupt. I'd previously seen
the corruption on the workspace switch mini-screens, but now it's on my
main screen too.

[Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX / VNC / LTSP

2011-04-29 Thread Ben Shadwick
I'm seeing this issue with both Maverick and now Natty with x2goserver-
one.

jhansonxi's fix doesn't work for me.

I'm using system-tools-backends 2.10.1-2ubuntu1, so maybe Milan's fix
will flow down soon?

What's the best workaround at this point?

[Bug 773864] [NEW] root crontab file has disapeard on my maverick box

2011-04-29 Thread PresuntoRJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cron

I know for a fact hey ware there, cause a couple of days ago I had to
edit (sudo crontab -l) to comment a few lines for a test I was doing
(trying a new backup program).

Today, when I was done testing, I wanted to uncomment the lines to roll
back the old backup schedule and the crontab was empty... sudo crontab
-e also indicated it empty and in /var/spool/cron/crontabs I have
found only the users files, not the root one.

Then, after I have cryed a little, I have found this post
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10742514#post10742514 with
someone describing the same issue, but in Lucid then I have posted
this bug report.

I am not sure if there is a workaround, a way to reproduce the symptoms,
a way to get my crontab file back (my /var/spool where never backed up),
or if there was a recent crontab upgrade during my testing... but I can
tell I had to reboot a couple of times theese days, and never expected
this to happen.

[Bug 773861] [NEW] Moving windows is very laggy with Compiz

2011-04-29 Thread Nick B.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

After upgrading to Natty, moving windows around is really laggy. It also
happens in the gnome-classic session. It looks to be Compiz related
because there is no issue with the gnome classic (no effects) session.

To reproduce, just login to a session with Compiz (gnome classic or
Ubuntu Unity session) running, open a window and move it around.

I would expect that moving windows would be smooth. But instead it's
really laggy.
