[Bug 768846] Re: autofs does not mount /net/host

2011-07-30 Thread Jens Langner
Here I am having the same problem with our server since we upgraded them
to 11.04 (natty):

-- cut here --

langner@mars:~$ ll /net/cns2/.

-- cut here --

In addition, we identified that when setting a very short autofs unmount
timeout (via --timout X option) this timeout is never reached and the
mount point which was automounted stays forever.

The interesting part to not is, that when downgrading to kernel
2.6.35-30-server from 10.10 (Maverick) the problem instantly vanishes as
you can see here:

-- cut here --
langner@mars:~$ ll /net/cns2/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 30 15:12 NTOF
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 30 15:12 archive
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 30 15:12 astro
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 30 15:12 projects
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jul 30 15:12 user
-- cut here --

Thus, I also suspect a kernel problem! Please also note that even
upgrading to kernel 2.6.38-11-server which is still under development
didn't solve the problem.

In addition, please remove the incomplete status of this bug report as
we should have supplied enough information here to get some more
priority on the issue!

[Bug 818534] [NEW] P5KPL Sound card distorced sound with ALSA

2011-07-30 Thread aliasbody
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,
I am experiencing a bug that I never had before with alsa.

Since one year I was using Arch Linux instead of Ubuntu (I love ubuntu
but the bolt and the outdated packages... no for me), and all work, but
when I update to Gnome3 I was experiencing a but with the sound applet.
When I use the keyboard shortcut to level up the sound, instead of
stopping at 100% the sound continues and the 100% is the 100%+14db
boost.

That had as effect to distorted the sound, and turning all the sound
incompressible. So, because I didn't had the time to solve and I really
want to come back to Unity again (I can't leave without it :S)... I was
happy to not see the bug (because of the Gnome2 base).

But since yesterday, I am experiencing the same bug, but in another way.

Let me explain, when using the shortcut of the keyboard to control the
sound, and go to the maximum of the bar, if I look at the sound applet I
really see 100% so thats good... but if I launch alsamixer I see that he
is using 100%+14db... and to have a good sound I have the put the Master
at -40.25db.

My english is horrible, so for you to understand clearly what I am
talking about I made some pictures of my Ubuntu (PS : I have the same
Ubuntu 11.04 in my Asus 1215N and the bug don't exist in there... the
100% for the Master (in alsamixer) is 0db (and not +14db), and the
minimum is -65.25db (and not -40.25db).

Sound at 0% :

[Bug 818535] [NEW] GUI freezes

2011-07-30 Thread Saverio Miroddi
Public bug reported:

Sometimes (difficult to estimate, possibly once in 40 (or less) hours of

The mouse keeps going, the rest is unusable. If there is something in the

anything to do with this bug. The situation you described in that
question is the case on all Ubuntu systems; it is completely normal. See

[Bug 438447] Re: Caps lock key press not responding fast enough

2011-07-30 Thread Omer Omer
Pretty sad to see this has been reported 2 years ago and yet not fixed (or
at-least improved).
THis (ugh, This) problem is a real pain for people who are used to capitalize
using CAPS-LOCK, especially when writing passwords (where you can't actually
see what you type, and then make mistakes like PAssword instead of Password).
Actually I just found out today that I'm part of a really really small group
that uses caps locks to capitalize, I thought people use it more than shift...

[Bug 818544] [NEW] Brother MFC-240C FAX/Printer error

2011-07-30 Thread Swatkins
Public bug reported:

Before the extensive listing. I had the printer working fine through
manually installing the printer drivers from the Brother software site
since 9.10, and also for a HP printer. A couple weeks back, the
universal printer drivers were changed on my Computer via a popup
updater (damned thing). I tried removing everything, and re-installing
the origional printers. One problem is most of the online help is for
the older 10.10, and is always using menues that have been removed. I
also busted out my linux manual and used the lpadmin, and manually
configuring cups. The cups file looks fine, but constantly changes
permissions every ten minutes to only allow root to access it. In
addition I get the following error:

lpinfo: cups-driverd failed to execute.
cupsd: Child exited on signal 15!

The main error printed starts like this:

Cannot execute command due to filter
stopping job because scheduler cannot execute filter

[Bug 818546] [NEW] Full screen terminals don't fit on larger monitors

2011-07-30 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

When you press CTRL+ALT+F1 to F6 in order to use the full screen text
terminals, the text does not fit properly on larger widescreen
monitors. My monitor is a widescreen 24 Asus monitor and the full
screen terminals have small text and it stays within a square
surrounded by lots of unused black space.

I use DOSBox version 0.74 in full screen and the characters fit
perfectly on the same 24 monitor.

[Bug 767776] Re: apport report blocking of dpkg I/O errors is incomplete

2011-07-30 Thread Ryan Rawdon
Can someone explain the decision to mark this Won'tFix in Lucid? This
bug seems to block the installation of linux-image-2.6.32-33-generic on
one of our lucid machines, and being that it is an LTS release I find it
surprising that this will not be fixed or even backported.

[Bug 504224] Re: NFS mounts at boot time prevent boot or print spurious errors

2011-07-30 Thread Kat Amsterdam
Proof of this bug in a screenshot. I have had my ubuntu customer in a
panic now twice due to this matter. It happens when the machine has been
turned off for the night. The next day he starts the machine (the nas
runs 24/7 but goes into sleep mode), but the nas is still sleeping, so
it doesn't react right away to the request to mount. The system hangs
with the message in the screenshot.

[Bug 818553] [NEW] [Aspire 4810T, Realtek ALC269, Mic, Internal] Background noise

2011-07-30 Thread telemakos
Public bug reported:

I have a problem with loud backgroud noise in Ubuntu using the internal mic
(Sound Recorder, Skype, Audacity, etc.)
This problem is not hardware related, since if I start Windows 7 64bit on the
same machine the audio (including the mic) is perfect.
I guess that this bug might be related to pulseaudio.

I did another test on Ubuntu Natty by forcing skype to start with
following command in the Application Menu (thus bypassing pulse, I
guess) and the mic input is clear and without noise in that case:

bin/sh -c PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1 skype

[Bug 818561] [NEW] All external usb devices running at USB 1.1, internal camera and hard drivers at usb 2.0

2011-07-30 Thread Dvorak
Public bug reported:

I am having issues with usb speed on my Asus G51VX-RX05 laptop. Bios
settings have been checked and are not the problem.

All usb device run at 1.5 or 12 Mbps, while my internal 1.3 UVC webcam
and both internal sata drivers run at 480 Mbps no problem.

Keyboard runs at 1.5, mouse and external webcam at 12, and also my
Creative X-fi 5.1 usb soundcard runs at 12.

This causes issues when running skype and listening to music, as the
audio pops and I get mouse lag due to the slow USB speed.

However, USB sticks and external hard drives run at full 2.0 speed.

[Bug 805912] Re: firefox freezes computer every time it loads content

2011-07-30 Thread matteo sisti sette
** Summary changed:

- firefox completely hangs while loading ajax content
+ firefox freezes computer every time it loads content

** Description changed:

- This has started happening after upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu
- 10.10. I'm not sure the bug is in Firefox, but up to now I haven't seen
- any other program affected.
+ Every time Firefox is loading content, no matter whether it is loading a
+ new page or it is loading ajax content _within_ a page, the whole
+ computer freezes during some seconds while the content loads. During
+ that time you can't open a new tab, nor type anything, nor even interact
+ with other programs. If you were typing, you will see all the characters
+ you have typed meanwhile appear all at once.

- To reproduce: go to www.google.com and start typing a long search query
+ An example is when you go to google.com and start typing the search
+ terms. While you type them, every time the results are updated, the
+ computer freezes for some seconds.

- Expected (and how it behaved before the upgrade): every once in a while
- google's javascript scripts refresh the content of the page, the page
- greys out while reloading content, but the browser itself NEVER stops
- responding to mouse and keyboard input. The input textfield ALWAYS
- responds and shows what you're typing, regardless of whether the content
- below is being reloaded, and most important, the browser always responds
- to interaction such as clicking on another tab. This is what used to
- happen and what SHOULD happen.
+ This is a regression and this started happening just after I upgraded
+ Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10. I had never had this problem before.

- Observed behaviour (since the upgrade to 10.10): whenever the search
- results are refreshed, the whole browser stops responding to keyboard
- and mouse input while the content is loaded and the page is greyed out:
- you stop seeing what you're typing, and most annoying, it doesn't even
- respond to mouse clicks on other tabs and the like. This kills the A
- in Ajax which means Asynchronous. It seems the whole browser is
- completely blocked while performing Ajax requests.
+ This doesn't happen with other browsers.

- I don't think this is a problem in google's javascript code, as this
- only happens in Firefox and only since the upgrade. This does not happen
- in other browsers.

[Bug 818564] [NEW] Nautilus does not remember the unmaximized WIDTH of window

2011-07-30 Thread Eric Morgan
Public bug reported:

Maximize a nautilus window then quit. When you relaunch, it open
maximized, which is fine because you can restore the window to it's
unmaximized size. However it restores to the correct unmaximized height
but the MAXIMIZED width. You can also duplicate this by right clicking
the maximize button, then quitting and relaunching. The window opens in
windowed mode but with the maximum width. Right clicking the restore
button does not reduce the width to normal size.

[Bug 817649] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 frequently freezes on boot with blank screen

2011-07-30 Thread tomdean
This may be related to interaction with BIOS or the CPU's, KMS, etc.
This laptop has two GPU's. When I can successfully boot Ubuntu and
shutdown, on the next boot, I see a BIOS message (below). I never see
this message after shutting down Windows 7.

From a cold system, early AM.

1. Boot Ubuntu - success
Selected shutdown - within 1 minute - the laptop is cold to touch - the
air from the exhaust vent is room
 temperature, mid 60's(F).
Success - shutdown OK - powered off.
2. Wait 5 minutes
3. Power on - the laptop is cold to touch - the air from the exhaust vent is
room temperature, mid 60's(F).
BIOS message that the system suspended or hibernated to avoid overheating
 System temperature (090D)
 System is operating normally.
 Pressed enter to continue
 Selected to Boot Ubuntu
 Hung with blank screen.
4. Wait 5 minutes
5. Hold power button until power off
6. Power on
7. Select boot windows 7 - Boot OK
8. Selected shutdown - OK powered down completely
9. Power on
10 Boot windows 7
11 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down
12. Boot windows 7
13 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down
14 Boot Ubuntu - OK
15 Selected shutdown - OK completely powered down
16 Power on
17 Got BIOS message as above

When I get the BIOS message, 8 out of 10 attempts to boot Ubuntu fail.
When I get the BIOS message after attempting to boot Ubuntu, I can always boot
Wiindows 7.
I never see the BIOS message between attempts to boot Windows 7 and Windows 7
always succeeds.

[Bug 775690] Re: Impossible to change the pointer

2011-07-30 Thread Dukwhan Kim
Just closing the window and changing the [Icon Theme]
Inherits=Name_pointer does not help. Resizing the cursor, as shown in
the out-4.ogv by Paolo shows that simply quitting the Customize dialog
doesn't do anything to refresh the cursor. Also, rebooting doesn't seem
to help, either (i.e. the workaround does not work in all
circumstances).
