[Bug 820339] Re: Live migration fails

2011-08-10 Thread Tom Vijlbrief
In my situation I found the cause:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499750

My hostname was different from my (reverse) DNS mapping on the
destination host.

Changing my host name on the destination host fixed the problem for me.

The only other option I can think of that's not been discussed is to
create an antlr3.0 package which provides antlr3 and have the new
package in main and the normal antlr3 in universe.

I think we should push this as-is into main - in order to support a
jython upgrade we need the later version there as well.

Cheers

We won't be integrating LDAP into sshd. There are patches to allow sshd

will be considered, but I haven't had time to review them properly.

[Bug 156636]

2011-08-10 Thread Buffer-g-overflow
There seem to be plenty of interest downstream in supporting LDAP as a
network datastore for pubkeys (e.g. going back a few years, RH, Debian,
and Ubuntu have open bugs tracking this one), so, if this patch isn't
acceptable as offered, might it be possible to understand the reasons
and see if it's possible to arrive at an acceptable solution ?

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-08-10 Thread Steve Sutton
@jonbonjovi, @c0l2e did say :)

Put it in /etc/init/dbus.conf. You'll probably find an existing pre-
start/end script section in it (I did in mine). Just paste all the
lines (including the pre-stop and end script lines) into that file,
after the existing end script, or before the line that starts exec if
you don't have a pre-start section in yours.

I found that it didn't work the first time I rebooted (maybe the script
is read and cached somewhere before I changed it), but the next time I
rebooted, it worked.

Re: [Bug 604283] Re: network servers do not listen on 127.0.1.1

2011-08-10 Thread Brian Burch
On 10/08/11 06:42, Steve Langasek wrote:
I don't believe there's any bug in ifupdown here. As mentioned in the
upstream Debian bug, you do not need an explicit 127.0.1.1 network
interface to receive requests on that address, *as long as* you are
listening on the any address. This is indeed what openssh is doing by
default; being able to ssh to 127.0.1.1 has nothing to do with any
 ifupdown changes.
Out of the many services I run, the only ones I find that have problems
with 127.0.1.1 are bind, ntpd, and nmbd. nmbd is entirely
uninteresting, because it's only relevant on broadcast interfaces (which
is part of why it must bind by IP). ntpd's behavior could be considered
a bug, as could bind9. Since you mention bind9 explicitly, I think
reassigning this report to the bind9 package is the reasonable course of
 action here.
** Package changed: ifupdown (Ubuntu) = bind9 (Ubuntu)
 ** Tags removed: patch

Steve,

Thanks for taking interest. I went quiet because I am very worried about
causing undesirable side effects by rushing into conclusions about a
fix. I have several different production systems that I can test
carefully, but I don't have a lab system to play with.

There has been a lot of update activity on ifupdown since our latest
stable release, 0.6.10ubuntu4 (0.6.10 on debian sid). The code is
currently a moving target in the form of the debian experimental
version. (In particular, it seems all interface changes are now made
with the ip program, rather than ifconfig and route). ifupdown handles
so many different kinds of interface and I can't test most of them.

My bug relates specifically to handling of the IPv4 loopback addresses
and that logic HAS changed in the new version. The current version
explicitly creates lo 127.0.0.1, so my patch explicitly creates lo:0 as
127.0.1.1 to deal with the new style debian hosts file. Once I
stripped down my own customised hosts files, my simplistic patch really
works for all of my own network server software.

However, the experimental ifupdown does the right thing (in agreement
with your statement above) because (I think) it doesn't explicitly
define ANY loopback interfaces at all. Server sockets listening on any
interface (0.0.0.0) certainly work fine and I haven't //yet// found any
applications that don't work as desired.

Nevertheless, it seems foolhardy to take a snapshot of the experimental
package and toss it into any production ubuntu repository. I'm not yet
confident enough to simply strip out and backport the IPv4 loopback
logic from the current alpha version either. I suspect many people have
hacked their hosts files to get round problems in the past, and there
are a lot of applications that might have been hacked too. All of these
could be at risk if we release a fix - even if we are making the package
work properly at last.

I think we should keep this bug filed against ifupdown - it will
certainly be changed in the next release and will certainly fix this
bug. I honestly can't say yet whether bind (amongst other
applications) is also at fault for listening on the wrong local
addresses. I think we should leave that supplementary question hanging
until ifupdown is working properly with respect to the IPv4 loopback subnet.

Regards,

Brian

[Bug 823876] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2011-08-10 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to
Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2011-08-10 Thread Stefan Bader
As far as I can see the patch

commit 1aa8ceef0312a6aae7dd863a120a55f1637b361d
Author: Nikola Ciprich extmaill...@linuxbox.cz
Date: Wed Mar 9 23:36:51 2011 +0100

KVM: fix kvmclock regression due to missing clock update

commit 387b9f97750444728962b236987fbe8ee8cc4f8c moved kvm_request_guest_time
breaking 32bit SMP guests using kvm-clock. Fix this by moving (new) clock up
to proper place.

Signed-off-by: Nikola Ciprich nikola.cipr...@linuxbox.cz
Acked-by: Zachary Amsden zams...@redhat.com
Signed-off-by: Avi Kivity a...@redhat.com

is in Oneiric (came in with 2.6.39) but the attached patch is the
inverse of it. It does not have been submitted to stable, so Natty would

[Bug 795717] Re: 32bit rhel and centos 5.(5|6) hangs on boot on natty

2011-08-10 Thread Stefan Bader
To proceed with getting this into Natty I created test kernels at
http://people.canonical.com/~smb/lp795717/
If somebody can confirm that using those works, then we can proceed with
getting the fix SRUed.

[Bug 795717] Re: 32bit rhel and centos 5.(5|6) hangs on boot on natty

2011-08-10 Thread gdahlman
Thanks Stefan,

I have confirmed that the following kernels work.

linux-image-2.6.38-11-server_2.6.38-11.48+lp795717v1_amd64.deb
linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic_2.6.38-11.48+lp795717v1_amd64.deb

They were installed on three machines

Dell PowerEdge R710 with 96GB ram and 2 * Xeon X5680
Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 32GB ram and 2 * Xeon E5420
Dell OptiPlex 960 with 8GB ram and 1 * Core2 Duo E8400

I can install and boot the following operating systems, all with 8
vcpus.

Ubuntu 8.04 server i386 (current_clocksource was tsc)
Ubuntu 10.10 desktop i386
RHEL 5.4 i386
RHEL 5.5 i386 (boot existing image only)
Centos 5.5 i386
Centos 5.5 amd64
Centos 5.6 i386 LiveCD (no install)

I also had no issues booting 64bit windows 7 guests with two vcpus.

Thanks,

Greg

2011-08-10 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+
+ Impact: An upstream change in the kvm code in 2.6.37 causes regressions
+ running 32bit guest under 11.04 (Natty) KVM.
+
+ Fix: Cherry-picking a single upstream patch (which went into 2.6.39)
+ fixes the issue.
+
+ Testcase: Booting 32bit rhel and centos 5.(5|6) guests under Natty used
+ to hang, but has been verified to succeed with a test kernel including
+ the upstream patch.
+

+
  Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I have several guest images that ran fine under 10.10, RHEL and or
CENTOS 5.5 and 5.6 x86 all hang either from ISO or from disk image on

[Bug 824167] Re: wishlist: connect to lxc container by name using avahi

2011-08-10 Thread Serge Hallyn
The templates tweak dhclient.conf so that the container should send its
hostname. If you have dnsmasq running (i.e. if you are connecting your
clients to a libvirt bridge), and your host has 'nameserver
192.168.122.1' at the top, then you should be able to 'ssh
container.'.

Since lxc is not setting up your network environment, I'm not sure that
it is proper for lxc itself to do any more. Does the above work for
you?

[Bug 824167] Re: wishlist: connect to lxc container by name using avahi

2011-08-10 Thread Sidnei da Silva
Apparently that doesn't work. I modified the host's dhclient.conf to
add:

   prepend domain-name-servers 192.168.122.1;

Such that /etc/resolv.conf now contains:

  nameserver 192.168.122.1
  nameserver 10.0.1.1

dnsmasq seems to be running:

   1366 dnsmasq --strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-
file=/var/run/libvirt/network/default.pid --conf-file= --except-
interface lo --listen-address 192.168.122.1 --dhcp-range
192.168.122.2,192.168.122.254 --dhcp-lease-max=253 --dhcp-no-override

Interestingly, seems like there's no route to the 192.168.122.0 network
on the host, so maybe something is broken on my side:

route -n

May I change the suggestion to use avahi to instead modify the host's

[Bug 824167] Re: wishlist: connect to lxc container by name using avahi

2011-08-10 Thread Sidnei da Silva
Avahi is nothing more than a multicast-dns implementation. if avahi-
daemon is installed in the container and libnss-mdns (IIRC) in the host,
then the container will broadcast it's hostname through mdns and the
host would be able to resolve it. It might be overkill however,
specially since the dhclient/resolv.conf option works fine as you
pointed out.
