[Bug 634102] Re: t1.micro EC2 instances hang on reboot

2011-08-29 Thread Ray
Apparently the fix hasn't made it into the daily releases of Natty on
EC2.

This is especially troublesome for someone trying to boot a HVM instance
with CUDA enabled, because a reboot is needed after installation of the
NVIDIA dev drivers.

Here is a one-liner for a quick fix:
sudo perl -pi -e 's/(nobootwait),(\S+)/$2,$1/' /etc/fstab

 I get a black screen.

I recently had black screen problems with QXL in 0.14.x that turned out to
actually be a Seabios bug due to the default 64MB vram QXL has. I suspect
this would hit 0.15.x builds too. If this is what you're hitting, then
reducing the vram to 32MB is a temporary workaround that should help, eg

   -vga qxl -global qxl-vga.vram_size=33554432

support negated Host matching, e.g.

root@host:/usr# ls -l  ` find . -name bios.bin -print`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2011-08-20 15:47 ./share/qemu/bios.bin -
../seabios/bios.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 131072 2011-05-20 00:41 ./share/seabios/bios.bin
Then QXL device will work with 64M vram at install and runtime in spice
sessions.
Issue is connected with Qemu-kvm 0.15 Release

[Bug 750371] Re: squid causing /var to stay busy during shutdown

2011-08-29 Thread ryokenau
Thank you very much Clint and Chris, and especially Jorge!

I have finally found some time to get rid of my ugly workaround to this
bug (which involved manually stopping squid before filesystem
unmounting) and installed squid 2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu12.4 from lucid-
proposed.

Besides a dirty filesystem upon the first shutdown right after the
update, all subsequent shutdown/reboot attempts were fine. Looks like
this pesky bug is finally squashed! :)

[Bug 836849] [NEW] Samba starts before static IPs set in network manager

2011-08-29 Thread camden lindsay
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release:10.04

Expect that samba will start up provided the interface assigned in it's
config has a static IP address.

Instead, Samba starts before the network manager manages to set up the static
IP address on the machine.

[Bug 832507] Re: console.log grows indefinitely

2011-08-29 Thread Dave Walker
* Using named pipes / fifo would seem to re-introduce the same issue
differently.
* Logging to unix socket would mean there needs to be a listener within nova to
suck in the log to file, but means it's handled in userspace (good).
* Using a non-standard kernel module called emlog is interesting, but would
need to be opt-in due to it's non-mainline nature.

[Bug 556528] Re: euca2ools config file overrides environment

2011-08-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
(This is completely wrong, and should be fixed upstream, but in any
case: )

Note that the manpages say

Euca2ools will use the environment variables EC2_URL, EC2_ACCESS_KEY,
   EC2_SECRET_KEY, EC2_CERT, EC2_PRIVATE_KEY, S3_URL,  EUCALYPTUS_CERT  by
   default.

So at least they should be fixed to warn about this bug.

[Bug 835818] Re: Can't boot qemu w/o kvm (no boot=on param, upstream patch)

2011-08-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug.

However, if I understand right, lucid's qemu *does* support 'boot=on'
since it is qemu-kvm. The libvirt source has changed a great deal since
the version in lucid, and would need to be re-written. Finally, as
lucid is LTS, I'd be afraid of doing this in a way that would change
behavior for some existing users.

Please feel free to attach a patch and rationale that there is no chance
of regression (to change my or someone else mind), but given that this
is for use with a non-standard qemu, I'm going to mark this wontfix.

Is there something in particular you need from that version of qemu? If
there's a bug perhaps we can fix that in the qemu-kvm package?

It should also be possible for you to use a backport of maverick's
libvirt to natty.

[Bug 835818] Re: Can't boot qemu w/o kvm (no boot=on param, upstream patch)

2011-08-29 Thread Drew Scott Daniels
Hi,
I'm willing to rebuild and test the fix myself when I get some time, but I
thought it might be faster and easier for a maintainer to do.

I apologise if this comment seems negative, it's not intended as such.

1) lucid's qemu does not seem to support boot=on, but maybe my testing
is wrong? Certainly libvirt's upstream says that not all versions of
qemu do even though the documentation may say that it does. I can get
ReactOS to boot without this parameter, but I can't get it to boot with
this parameter. I isolated the commands to that one difference.

2) qemu-kvm does not require kvm. Many peices of hardware, including
mine don't support kvm. Perhaps this is what's misleading you.

3) I did attach a patch from upstream. I figured attaching a patch would
make it easier to spot rather than having to see that there's a link to
a patch in the git repository. It looks like the patch doesn't effect
qemu when in kvm mode, and it looks like lucid's qemu without kvm
doesn't support boot=on (but perhaps my testing is flawed? See point 1).

4) I'm using lucid. Is maverick's libvirt already in a supported
backported archive? I don't see it, but I do see a bug that says it's
not there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lucid-backports/+bug/724026

5) I've added the tags patch and patch-accepted-upstream. I hope
that's appropriate.

Here's the metadata about the patch:
- cut -
author  Daniel Veillard veill...@redhat.com

  Basically the 'boot=on' boot selection device is something present in
KVM but not in upstream QEmu, as a result if we boot a QEmu domain
without KVM acceleration we must disable boot=on ... even if the front
end kvm binary expose that capability in the help page.

[Bug 836443] [NEW] [oneiric] gconf settings don't get set properly

2011-08-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Using gconf-editor to set settings doesn't work. The new theme section
of System Settings sets every setting except for the Window theme which
is the only setting changed there that is still gconf and isn't
gsettings. When I try to EditKeyboard Shortcuts in gnome-terminal, my
changes don't stick after closing gnome-terminal because the gconf
settings aren't actually set.

[Bug 836443] Re: [oneiric] gconf settings don't get set properly

2011-08-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
An exception to the broken gconf is gnome-tweak-tool which is still able
to set gconf values (like the previously mentioned window theme). gnome-
tweak-tool uses the following code:

from gi.repository import GConf

class GConfSetting:
def __init__(self, key, _type):
self._key = key
self._type = _type
assert(self._type in (str, bool))
self._client = GConf.Client.get_default()

def set_value(self, value):
if self._type == bool:
self._client.set_bool(self._key, value)
elif self._type == str:
self._client.set_string(self._key, value)
else:
assert(False)

Jason - I just saw dc3, I am not sure if shipping an alternative to
desktopcouch is a solution at this point in the cycle. Do you have a fix
or planned fix for the current couchdb/desktopcouch in Oneiric?

[Bug 836452] [NEW] condor_q produces no information about running jobs; condor_q -l does

2011-08-29 Thread Hiro Protagonist
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 11.04
2) condor 7.2.4-0ubuntu4

3) I'd expect condor_q to behave the same way it does on ubuntu 10.04. There
condor_q (without options) lists the running condor jobs.
4) on natty, condor_q only outputs the submitter name and the header of the
list that should be populated with the running jobs. it looks like this:

-- Submitter: machine.domain : 127.0.1.1:34552 : machine.domain
 ID OWNERSUBMITTED RUN_TIME ST PRI SIZE CMD

but no jobs. condor_q -l (and condor_q -xml) work as expected and list
all the details about running jobs.
