[Bug 845434] [NEW] ipv6 support in vmbuilder

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
Public bug reported:

I'm using vmbuilder and specifying hard coded fixed IP addresses with
--ip, --mask, --gw and --dns which is working fine for IPv4.

However I also want to provide IPv6 address to the virtual machine.
Adding a 'inet6' stanza to /etc/network/interfaces works, but requires
me to modify that file on the system. If vmbuilder supports setting
IPv4 addresses, I think it should support setting IPv6 address too.

Therefor, please add parameters like --ip6, --mask6, --gw6 to vmbuilder.

Thanks,
Simon

[Bug 576376] Re: Allow specifying more than one nameserver

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
I'm using --dns 217.75.96.11,217.75.96.12 which does the right thing for
/etc/resolv.conf but the generated /etc/network/interfaces looks like
this:

dns-nameservers 217.75.96.11,217.75.96.12

I think they should be SPC-separated?

Still, I think multiple --dns parameters is more clear than trying to
use comma-separated values.

[Bug 568687] Re: Built vm image file retains random temp filename

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
One alternative solution to just naming the image after the hostname
would be to introduce a new parameter --image (or something) which would
take the filename of the image to generate. For example, --image
/var/lib/libvirt/images/webserver.qcow2. I always found it confusing to
have one directory per image, which can only contain one file per
directory. I'd much rather have all images in one directory.

[Bug 845536] [NEW] rabbitmq user showed as being logged in

2011-09-09 Thread Jonathan Lange
Public bug reported:

If you have rabbitmq-server installed, and you run 'ck-list-sessions' on
a vt, you'll get something like this:

Session3:
 unix-user = '129'
 realname = 'RabbitMQ messaging server'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = ''
 active = FALSE
 x11-display = ''
 x11-display-device = ''
 display-device = '/dev/???'
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T15:36:19.140717Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'
Session11:
 unix-user = '134'
 realname = 'Light Display Manager'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = 'LoginWindow'
 active = FALSE
 x11-display = ':0'
 x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7'
 display-device = ''
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T16:42:07.207961Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'
Session12:
 unix-user = '1000'
 realname = 'Jonathan Lange'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = ''
 active = TRUE
 x11-display = ''
 x11-display-device = ''
 display-device = '/dev/tty1'
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T16:42:28.379523Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'

It shows rabbitmq as logged in and using a console. This has knock-on
effects, causing Restart buttons in desktop UIs to not actually
restart (see bug 838792).

Related to, or possibly the same bug as bug 820239.

[Bug 845541] [NEW] Remove libcommons-fileupload-java-universe from the Oneiric archive

2011-09-09 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

As Eucalyptus has been demoted from main-universe, the requirement to
maintain libcommons-fileupload-java-universe has disappeared as all
packages can now use the straight libcommons-fileupload-java package
(which we can re-sync from Debian to pickup the missing features).

The following syncs/updates will be required to make this happen:

libcommons-fileupload-java-universe - drop
libcommons-fileupload-java - Resync from Debian - needs FFE as minor version
upgrade
libstruts1.2-java - Ubuntu change to revert to using non -universe version
of above
solr - Ubuntu change to revert to using non -universe version of above
libspring-java - Resync from Debian - needs FFE as minor version upgrade
libspring-2.5-java - Resync from Debian (packaging changes only).

FFE exception details for libcommons-fileupload-java

Rationale: Restore full features to allow removal of
libcommons-fileupload-java-universe from the archive
Upstream changelog:
http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/changes-report.html#a1.2.2 - Bug fixes only
Build log:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/79418422/buildlog_ubuntu-oneiric-i386.libcommons-fileupload-java_1.2.2-1~oneiric1~ppa1_BUILDING.txt.gz
Install log:
Testing:
  Rebuild of all reverse-build-dependencies of
libcommons-fileupload-java-universe with this updated package OK.

Debian changelog for sync:

libcommons-fileupload-java (1.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * New libcommons-fileupload-java-doc package for Javadoc.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1:
- Add recommended get-orig-source target in d/rules.
  * d/dirs: Remove, uneeded.
  * Switch to maven-debian-helper for build:
- Drop all patches on old Ant build.
- Add maven-debian-helper to B-D.
- Drop ant from B-D.
  * Don't Depends on a JRE (not requested anymore by Java Policy for
libraries packages).

2011-09-09 Thread rick beldin
Workarounds from:

http://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-dev/2011-May.txt

work for me to a variety of HP ILO devices from Natty:

In .ssh/config:

Host ilo1 ilo2 omfgilo ...
KexAlgorithms diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
HostkeyAlgorithms ssh-rsa

OR

ssh -oHostKeyAlgorithms=ssh-rsa ilo

Where ilo is the hostname of the ilo device.

[Bug 845871] Re: qemu-common cannot be installed because of unsatisfied dependency

2011-09-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

can you please paste your /etc/apt/sources.list and any files under
/etc/apt/sources.list.d?

It sounds like you may have backports enabled, not just lucid-updates.
If you had lucid-updates, the newest seabios version would actually be
0.5.1-0ubuntu2, and qemu-common would not have a versioned depend on
seabios.

[Bug 845871] Re: qemu-common cannot be installed because of unsatisfied dependency

2011-09-09 Thread Christian Hudon
Ugh. You can close this. I had a PPA for KVM for hardy (which was
converted to lucid on upgrade) that I thought I had disabled in the
sources.list file for this computer, but the change I did on my master
sources.list file didn't get propagated correctly, due to an operator
error.

Thanks for the help, and my apologies for taking up some of your time
with this.

[Bug 846057] Re: cloud-init on oneiric does not honor ubuntu-pass=*

2011-09-09 Thread Scott Moser
I'm guessing you saw 'ubuntu-pass' in tools/uncloud-init.

That is mostly obsolete, if you want to use it you need to boot with:
  init=/usr/lib/cloud-init/uncloud-init ubuntu-pass=ubuntu

I'd suggest it would be better to use nocloud-net and pass a seed url.
then you can use all of cloud-config configuration (which includes the
ability to set a password and allow login via that password).

[Bug 842845] Re: problems starting multiple lxc instances concurrently

2011-09-09 Thread Clint Byrum
This looks more like a problem with libvirt, as its an internal libvirt
error..

(nova.exception): TRACE: File
/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/nova/virt/libvirt/connection.py, line 1168, in
get_info
(nova.exception): TRACE: (state, max_mem, mem, num_cpu, cpu_time) =

(nova.exception): TRACE: if ret is None: raise libvirtError
('virDomainGetInfo() failed', dom=self)
(nova.exception): TRACE: libvirtError: internal error Unable to get cgroup for
instance-0006

Though it could be a logic problem in some assumptions nova makes about
libvirt domains that is only proved false with LXC.

Marking as also affects libvirt, setting both to importance of High.
While this only affects users of LXC, its intermittent which may signal
other problems that are harder to detect.

2011-09-09 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Borin, your system has an invalid hostname:

newaliases: fatal: myorigin parameter setting must not contain multiple
values: ,amkcambodia.com

Postfix is refusing to use it. There are a few reasons this may happen..
but most likely /etc/hostname or /etc/mailname just have type-o's in
them. Edit those files, fix the hostname, run 'sudo hostname `cat
/etc/hostname`' afterwards, and then 'dpkg-reconfigure postfix'.

Closing as Invalid.

[Bug 845383] [NEW] CronHowTo ought to mention that the for regular users an entry in /etc/shadow is required

2011-09-09 Thread Chris Morrow
Public bug reported:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CronHowto

talks a lot about cron, and how to use it and how to enable it for 'all
user accounts'. It doesn't mention that an account entry in /etc/shadow
is required for the user's crontab to be processed though. For a utility
user (like say... mailman) having no entry in shadow means a remote
login is essentially impossible. Also, no entry in shadow means mailman
crons never run :(

it'd be nice if the docs noted this as a requirement:)

[Bug 845381] [NEW] [Realtek ALC861] pactl stat failed to find default card -- works fine with primary user account but stopped working with other user accounts

2011-09-09 Thread Mike Malveaux
Public bug reported:

Sound used to work for all user accounts, but no longer does. Recently
installed Skype but do not know how closely that correlates with recent
sound problem. We no longer get the exit sound when logging off from
the primary user account, either. When looking at Sound Preferences,
Hardware tab, nothing is listed; the only choice on the Output tab is
Dummy Output. The primary user account shows Analog Stereo on the
Output tab. I would like to fix this and defend the honor of Linux to
my Windoze-using girlfriend, but I don't know enough. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

I feel I've tested CouchDB 1.1.0 pretty comprehensively, aside from one
key area: apps that use desktopcouch through libdesktopcouch-glib-1.0-2,
libcouchdb-glib-1.0-2 (evolution-couchdb is probably the most widely
used consumer). If we could get some testing via evolution-couchdb, and
make sure U1 sync works okay still using it, then I personally feel
pushing CouchDB 1.1.0 into Oneiric is a reasonable move.

As far as cherry picking, the CouchDB 1.0.3 release notes mention three
Erlang R14B02 fixes:

* Fixed compatibility issues with Erlang R14B02
* Fixed error when restarting replications in OTP R14B02
* Fixed OAuth signature computation in OTP R14B02

BTW, the Novacut components all talk to CouchDB directly, so they're
kinda weird cases in desktopcouch land... although still good testing.

[Bug 124442] Re: Fuji-Xerox engine for CUPS

2011-09-09 Thread John McPherson
Hi,

based on the above comments, I've made some .deb packages:

1) original source code from
ftp://download.fujixerox.co.jp/pub/exe/apeosport/c4300series/fxlinuxprint-src-1.0.1.tar.gz,
 licensed under GNU GPLv2
2) get the driver to output the required headers for printing to printers with
mandatory auditing (FXUserName setting)

Also:
3) fixed a slight problem with the PPD file that meant the printer wasn't
visible in the GUI add printer dialogs
4) tried to fix up some potential insecure uses of strcat() function.

.deb packages and my changes to the source code are available at
http://www.wlug.org.nz/~jrm/fxlinuxprint/

To set the FXUserName variable for auditing, do one of:

a) [GNOME]
click on System - Administration - Printing
right-click on the printer, go to Properties, go to Job Options.
At the bottom, enter FXUserName (case-sensitive) into the add a new
option box, and click Add. Then set the value to the correct printer
accounting code.

b) [command line, requires root permissions]
stop the printing service (CUPS) with '/etc/init.d/cups stop'
edit /etc/cups/printers.conf, and inside the Printer or DefaultPrinter
blocks, add a new line like 'Option FXUserName 123456'.
Now restart the printing service with '/etc/init.d/cups start'.

c) (change setting for local user only)
From the command line, enter lpoptions -p (printername) FXUserName=123456,
replacing 123456 with the correct printer accounting code for your
department. You can find the printername for the already known printers with
'lpstat -a'
Note! some applications that don't fully support the CUPS printing system
(such as Open Office) will not correctly apply the option if it's set using
this method.
  http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16t=36474

@ryanau - I couldn't find any way to get the CUPS interface to allow a
text entry dialog like that (except for adding your own option like in
step a) above). I think the PPD interface only allows PickOne-style
options.

[Bug 816230] Re: the Minimize, Maximize, Close buttons dissapear from all windows

2011-09-09 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in compiz.

If this is still an issue for you, please execute the following command, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

Re: [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-09-09 Thread Maarten Kossen
First of all, let me correct my previous post: with 'sticking to the
right' I naturally meant 'sticking to the left'.

Fernando: you are right, most Ubuntu users are power users. However,
what I think Canonical is trying to do is make Ubuntu more appealing to
non-technical users. I really think for this purpose Unity is way better
than the old Gnome2 desktop or the new Gnome shell. It's more appealing
to the eye, if offers a more streamlined experience and it's easy to get
started with.

On 09/08/2011 04:39 PM, Fernando wrote:
Maarten, I don't know you personally, that is what I was talking about.
And another thing that wish to remember is that here, we are not ordinary
users. Many people here are Computer Science students, application
developers and all other sort of technical expertise. So don't think that
there are only dumb people complaining. Even Linus Torvalds is unhappy with
the current situation of Linux desktop.
We are not here to TROLL Unity, but trying to make it better. The fact that
the launcher is fixed in the left side of the screen is only a single
complaint in middle of many that I hear.

Well, Fernando, then let me be the first then. I heavily prefer Unity
over the Mac OS X and Windows 7 UIs, despite both having a movable
launcher. I agree that the Unity Launcher sticking to the right isn't
always perfect (like with RTL languages or with a dual screen setup with
the left screen being the primary), but that's really secondary. For
most users, the current launcher covers it. It's fantastic!

If everything would happen based on what users would expect, there would
 not be much innovation...

On 09/08/2011 03:05 PM, Fernando wrote:

Please Unity developers, don't be as ignorant as developers of Microsoft
and Apple, please, hear us, it is for the sake of the Ubuntu Linux project
that we are asking such a thing.
I know that from time to time new user's interface must be developed, but
sometimes their concepts don't match user's expectations. As I can see,
Unity is not the right direction in it's current form.

it in the Ubuntu 11.10 repositories or else we risk shipping either an
out-of-date GNOME Shell or an ugly patch. Since it is now part of GNOME
Core, we can expect it to be maintained.

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-09-09 Thread Magnes
What people are trying to tell - here and on Mark Shuttleworth blog, I
recommend reading the comments there - is that Ubuntu is very bad for
non-technical users. I can confirm it after trying to teach three non-technical
people using it. They were lost, while they done things without problem (and
without me having to explain simple tasks for them) with old Ubuntu.
It's more appealing to the eye - is it, really? The cacaphony of colours on
the launcher hurts my eyes, the dash has insanely huge icons, in my opinion
it's very far from appealing. And like I said the main problem is that is very
hard to get started with.
