[Bug 845434] [NEW] ipv6 support in vmbuilder
Public bug reported: I'm using vmbuilder and specifying hard coded fixed IP addresses with --ip, --mask, --gw and --dns which is working fine for IPv4. However I also want to provide IPv6 address to the virtual machine. Adding a 'inet6' stanza to /etc/network/interfaces works, but requires me to modify that file on the system. If vmbuilder supports setting IPv4 addresses, I think it should support setting IPv6 address too. Therefor, please add parameters like --ip6, --mask6, --gw6 to vmbuilder. [Bug 568687] Re: Built vm image file retains random temp filename
One alternative solution to just naming the image after the hostname would be to introduce a new parameter --image (or something) which would take the filename of the image to generate. I'm guessing you saw 'ubuntu-pass' in tools/uncloud-init. That is mostly obsolete, if you want to use it you need to boot with: init=/usr/lib/cloud-init/uncloud-init ubuntu-pass=ubuntu I'd suggest it would be better to use nocloud-net and pass a seed url. then you can use all of cloud-config configuration (which includes the ability to set a password and allow login via that password). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/846057 Title: cloud-init on oneiric does not honor ubuntu-pass=* To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/846057/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 845383] [NEW] CronHowTo ought to mention that the for regular users an entry in /etc/shadow is required
Public bug reported: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CronHowto talks a lot about cron, and how to use it and how to enable it for 'all user accounts'. It doesn't mention that an account entry in /etc/shadow is required for the user's crontab to be processed though. For a utility user (like say... mailman) having no entry in shadow means a remote login is essentially impossible. Also, no entry in shadow means mailman crons never run :( it'd be nice if the docs noted this as a requirement:) ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/845383 Title: CronHowTo ought to mention that the for regular users an entry in /etc/shadow is required To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/845383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 845381] [NEW] [Realtek ALC861] pactl stat failed to find default card -- works fine with primary user account but stopped working with other user accounts
Public bug reported: Sound used to work for all user accounts, but no longer does. Recently installed Skype but do not know how closely that correlates with recent sound problem. We no longer get the exit sound when logging off from the primary user account, either. When looking at Sound Preferences, Hardware tab, nothing is listed; the only choice on the Output tab is Dummy Output. The primary user account shows Analog Stereo on the Output tab. [Bug 817656] Re: [FFE] Please merge couchdb 1.1.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
Martin, I haven't again encountered the crash I mentioned. It occurred using my experimental desktopcouch-like `dc3`, so there's a good chance I was doing something stupid :P I feel I've tested CouchDB 1.1.0 pretty comprehensively, aside from one key area: apps that use desktopcouch through libdesktopcouch-glib-1.0-2, libcouchdb-glib-1.0-2 (evolution-couchdb is probably the most widely used consumer). If we could get some testing via evolution-couchdb, and make sure U1 sync works okay still using it, then I personally feel pushing CouchDB 1.1.0 into Oneiric is a reasonable move. As far as cherry picking, the CouchDB 1.0.3 release notes mention three Erlang R14B02 fixes: * Fixed compatibility issues with Erlang R14B02 * Fixed error when restarting replications in OTP R14B02 * Fixed OAuth signature computation in OTP R14B02 BTW, the Novacut components all talk to CouchDB directly, so they're kinda weird cases in desktopcouch land... although still good testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/817656 Title: [FFE] Please merge couchdb 1.1.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/817656/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 124442] Re: Fuji-Xerox engine for CUPS
Hi, based on the above comments, I've made some .deb packages: 1) original source code from ftp://download.fujixerox.co.jp/pub/exe/apeosport/c4300series/fxlinuxprint-src-1.0.1.tar.gz, licensed under GNU GPLv2 2) get the driver to output the required headers for printing to printers with mandatory auditing (FXUserName setting) Also: 3) fixed a slight problem with the PPD file that meant the printer wasn't visible in the GUI add printer dialogs 4) tried to fix up some potential insecure uses of strcat() function. .deb packages and my changes to the source code are available at http://www.wlug.org.nz/~jrm/fxlinuxprint/ To set the FXUserName variable for auditing, do one of: a) [GNOME] click on System - Administration - Printing right-click on the printer, go to Properties, go to Job Options. At the bottom, enter FXUserName (case-sensitive) into the add a new option box, and click Add. Then set the value to the correct printer accounting code. b) [command line, requires root permissions] stop the printing service (CUPS) with '/etc/init.d/cups stop' edit /etc/cups/printers.conf, and inside the Printer or DefaultPrinter blocks, add a new line like 'Option FXUserName 123456'. Now restart the printing service with '/etc/init.d/cups start'. c) (change setting for local user only) From the command line, enter lpoptions -p (printername) FXUserName=123456, replacing 123456 with the correct printer accounting code for your department. You can find the printername for the already known printers with 'lpstat -a' Note! some applications that don't fully support the CUPS printing system (such as Open Office) will not correctly apply the option if it's set using this method. http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16t=36474 @ryanau - I couldn't find any way to get the CUPS interface to allow a text entry dialog like that (except for adding your own option like in step a) above). I think the PPD interface only allows PickOne-style options. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124442 Title: Fuji-Xerox engine for CUPS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/124442/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
First of all, let me correct my previous post: with 'sticking to the right' I naturally meant 'sticking to the left'. Fernando: you are right, most Ubuntu users are power users. However, what I think Canonical is trying to do is make Ubuntu more appealing to non-technical users. I really think for this purpose Unity is way better than the old Gnome2 desktop or the new Gnome shell. It's more appealing to the eye, if offers a more streamlined experience and it's easy to get started with. On 09/08/2011 04:39 PM, Fernando wrote: Maarten, I don't know you personally, that is what I was talking about. And another thing that wish to remember is that here, we are not ordinary users. Many people here are Computer Science students, application developers and all other sort of technical expertise. So don't think that there are only dumb people complaining. Even Linus Torvalds is unhappy with the current situation of Linux desktop. We are not here to TROLL Unity, but trying to make it better. The fact that the launcher is fixed in the left side of the screen is only a single complaint in middle of many that I hear. On Thu, Sep 8, 2011 at 10:16 AM, Maarten Kossenmaarten.kos...@quateria.com wrote: Well, Fernando, then let me be the first then. I heavily prefer Unity over the Mac OS X and Windows 7 UIs, despite both having a movable launcher. I agree that the Unity Launcher sticking to the right isn't always perfect (like with RTL languages or with a dual screen setup with the left screen being the primary), but that's really secondary. For most users, the current launcher covers it. It's fantastic! If everything would happen based on what users would expect, there would not be much innovation... On 09/08/2011 03:05 PM, Fernando wrote: I, personally, don't a single human being on the Earth that thinks that Unity is the best think they had found until now. Please Unity developers, don't be as ignorant as developers of Microsoft and Apple, please, hear us, it is for the sake of the Ubuntu Linux project that we are asking such a thing. [Bug 845300] Re: [FFe] [needs-packaging] caribou
** Description changed: - Caribou is GNOME 3's replacement for gok. It is a themable on-screen + Caribou is GNOME 3's replacement for gok. It is a themeable on-screen keyboard and library. The standalone caribou tries to intelligently place itself next to the active text input. Unfortunately this doesn't work well in Firefox or in full-screen terminals for instance. It still may improve to be a good competitor to onboard or the basic library - could be built into an appropriate Ubuntu-themed screen keyboard. + could be built into an appropriate Ubuntu-themed screen keyboard similar + to what GNOME Shell 3.2 does. Because Caribou has now been built into GNOME Shell 3.2, we need to get it in the Ubuntu 11.10 repositories or else we risk shipping either an out-of-date GNOME Shell or an ugly patch. Since it is now part of GNOME Core, we can expect it to be maintained. + ricotz has been working with the Debian GNOME team on packaging: + http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-gnome/packages/experimental/caribou/ + gnome-control-center has been patched in Ubuntu to load onboard when the - screen keyboard has been activated. Unless that patch is revised to - allow for caribou to be used as an alternative, I don't see a way to - start caribou. This is good because onboard will continue to work in - Unity or GNOME Shell. Bad because obviously we don't want a package that - doesn't actually do what it's supposed to do. gnome-control-center could - set and look for a gsettings string that sets the preferred on screen - keyboard. Personally, I think it would be easier to test if that's - working once the package is in the archives and I know this would be - fixed early in the P cycle if we're too busy to get g-c-c working right - for Oneiric. + screen keyboard has been activated so having caribou in the archives + will not interfere with onboard. gnome-control-center could set and look + for a gsettings string that sets the preferred on screen keyboard. I + don't think we should block caribou based on the g-c-c patch. [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
What people are trying to tell - here and on Mark Shuttleworth blog, I recommend reading the comments there - is that Ubuntu is very bad for non-technical users. I can confirm it after trying to teach three non-technical people using it. They were lost, while they done things without problem (and without me having to explain simple tasks for them) with old Ubuntu. It's more appealing to the eye - is it, really? The cacaphony of colours on the launcher hurts my eyes, the dash has insanely huge icons, in my opinion it's very far from appealing. And like I said the main problem is that is very hard to get started with. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668415 Title: Movement of Unity launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/null/+bug/668415/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
