2011-09-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Chris! Do you think you could do

apport-collect 854457

And also attach /var/log/samba/* to this bug report? (make sure there's
nothing sensitive in it before attaching).

Thanks!

[Bug 854614] [NEW] metadata service local-hostname is not fqdn

2011-09-20 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

On a nova instance of Ubuntu oneiric image 20110920 , where nova server
is running ~ oneiric beta-1 code, I see:

$ ec2metadata  --local-hostname
server-1013

on ec2, this gives a FQDN for the internal hostname.

Note, that in this particular case, there is a reverse lookup-able address:
$ host server-1013
server-1013.novalocal has address 10.55.60.13

I would like to see 'server-1013.novalocal' in the metadata service.

There is nothing special in the logfiles it just tells me when connecting via

The same setup works logging in via SSH where the home directory gets

Is there anything else you need?

[Bug 854899] [NEW] Update to puppet-2.7.3

2011-09-20 Thread Marc Cluet
Public bug reported:

We need to update puppet to 2.7.3 version, there's several critical bugs
that has been solved between versions.

REASONS FOR FFE

1. This package has been in Debian Unstable for over 2 months
2. This package has been in Debian testing for over 3 weeks (2011-08-26)
[2011-08-26] puppet 2.7.3-1 MIGRATED to testing (Britney)
3. I'm right now at Puppetconf, upstream puppet developers have stressed the
urgency for 2.7.3 to be in Oneiric
4. This package solves several critical bugs that can affect the user
experience in Ubuntu
   The release notes are here
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/wiki/Release_Notes#2.7.3
   Most critical bugs are:
(#8596) Detect resource alias conflicts when titles do not match
1d4acb5 maint: Suggest where to start troubleshooting SSL error message
   c830ab0 (#6789) Port SSL::CertificateAuthority::Interface to a Face
cc311ad maint: SSL::Inventory.serial should report missing names.
(#4142) Fix module check not to fail when empty metadata.json
(#6857) Password disclosure when changing a user's password ***security***

These were all fixes from the 2.6.9 branch merged into 2.7.3 (and did
not get into 2.7.1 due to a code freeze on the 2.7.x branch)
90eb937 (#7139) Accept '/' as a valid path in filesets
99330fa (#7224) Reword 'hostname was not match' error message
   1d867b0 (#7224) Add a helper to Puppet::SSL::Certificate to retrieve
   alternate names
98ba407 (#7127) Stop puppet if a prerun command fails
caca469 (#4416) Ensure types are providified after reloading
413b136 (#4416) Always remove old provider before recreating it
3f0dbb5 (#650) Allow symlinks for configuration directories
1c70f0c (#2128) Add support for setting node name based on a fact
c629958 (#2128) Get facts before retrieving catalog

[Bug 854946] [NEW] Rampart's configuration on Ubuntu's package doesn't define a default ClockSkewBuffer

2011-09-20 Thread Bfreis
Public bug reported:

In both EucalyptusNC/services.xml and EucalyptusCC/services.xml there's
no ClockSkewBuffer (nor TimeToLive nor PrecisionInMilliseconds),
therefore messages from the future (from the webservice's point of
view) won't be accepted, even if the difference in time is minimal.

This happens on a default Ubuntu 11.04 x64 cloud server installation,
after a full upgrade (apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade) and a
reboot.

Eucalyptus' package version is 2.0.1+bzr1256-0ubuntu4.1

[Bug 854899] Re: Update to puppet-2.7.3

2011-09-20 Thread Dave Walker
Main package, bumping from 2.7.1 to 2.7.3. The upstream changelog is
pretty vast, and it's not clear to me that they are all bug fixes.
Please could you provide some further analysis and expand on the
reasoning for upstream wanting this included?

This also requires some testing before it can be approved.

Thanks.

[Bug 854899] Re: Update to puppet-2.7.3

2011-09-20 Thread Marc Cluet
Upstream reasoning for this update:

2.7.1 is the first bug fix iteration from the 2.7.x branch, this doesn't
include all the security fixes that happened in 2.6.x after the branch
freeze for 2.7.x. They strongly believe that 2.7.3 is a stable release
whereas 2.7.1 is an early release in the branch and hence not desired
for long term production environments, which would happen if it was
included in Oneiric.

I've ran all the unit tests on a clean up to date Oneric install, they
all pass satisfactory and the ones that don't have been verified by

[Bug 854899] Re: Update to puppet-2.7.3

2011-09-20 Thread Marc Cluet
Further justification from upstream for upgrade to 2.7.3:

Upstream considers 2.7.1 as an _early_ release and as such it is buggy,
there's two very important bugs (#6789 and #6857) that is CRITICAL and
as such upstream wouldn't want it to be in any stable release.

Also as further kudos for 2.7.3 upstream is strongly considering this
version for the next release of Puppet Enterprise.

[Bug 854946] Re: Rampart's configuration on Ubuntu's package doesn't define a default ClockSkewBuffer

2011-09-20 Thread graziano obertelli
Thanks for the quick answer! Yes it was part of our 2.0.3 release, which
was a security release only. My understanding (which I can confirm if
you want) is that with the addition of more stringent rules for
rampartC, this second patch was needed to allow communication between
components when the clocks were not perfectly synchronized.

I'm not convinced the exit code can be handled how you want it. A

return an exit code of non-zero.

is this not a valid work around for what you want?

[Bug 839390] Re: Apache+Kerberos not working anymore since update today

2011-09-20 Thread Dave Walker
@Thomas, if you are able - and willing to, are you able to try reverting
back to apache2 2.2.14-5ubuntu8.5 - to check it is functional, then
upgrade back to *8.6 to prove this introduced the regression?

Thanks.

[Bug 849954] Re: FFe: enable flicker-free boot with lightdm

2011-09-20 Thread Steve Langasek
manny, this bug report is about having a flicker-free transition between
plymouth and lightdm. There may be other sources of flickering on some
systems, but these are separate issues. Please file bug reports with
'ubuntu-bug' for the issues you're encountering.

The kinds of regressions we would see as a result of a botched flicker-
free transition to lightdm would be boot-time hangs or video corruption
when lightdm starts. If you're not seeing either of these kinds of
problems after applying this change, I think we can still consider this
change good.

[Bug 854445] [NEW] Asus ep121 (eee slate) touchscreen not working

2011-09-20 Thread Chinook Piroh
Public bug reported:

The Asus ep121 touchscreen is a two-finger (at the time) eGalax multitouch
screen 0xeef:0xa001. It should function as such but does not. The pointers
movement and position are relative and not absolute, like a giant laptop
touchpad. The hardware logs say it is a touchpad and load the Synaptics module
for it.
Touching the screen causes a constant mouse wheel up issue as well as
removing the ability to click even with a real mouse. The computer is unusable
in this state until rebooted.
There are a number of workarounds for other eGalax touchscreens such as
http://samiux.blogspot.com/2011/04/howto-ubuntu-1104-on-gigabyte-touchnote.html
but nothing works.

These issues occur on 10.10, 11.04, and the 11.10 beta released sept. 1.
In the 11.10 beta, blacklisting the synaptics module allows the
touchscreen to work with absolute coordinates but bad calibration. It
also registers a constant left mouse button pressed event after being
touched.
