Perhaps if you are able to, proposing a patch would be really useful.

[Bug 870405] Re: nova-manage providing filename to default_flagfile breaks devstack

2011-10-08 Thread Dave Walker
@smoser, this patch targets developers rather than consumers right?

That being the case, as the Ubuntu nova packages are releasing soon - is
this patch of more use in P-Series?

Ie, what is the impact if this doesn't land in Oneiric?

Thanks.

[Bug 869553] Re: Apparmor prevents KVM tunnelled migration

2011-10-08 Thread Jamie Strandboge
This is not an appropriate rule because it negates the property of guest
isolation. This should be handled dynamically by the security driver,
but it is not (which is the bug). This could be done in a couple of
ways. What are the contents of /var/log/libvirt/qemu/guest1.log after
the AppArmor denial?

[Bug 870744] [NEW] package samba-common 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-10-08 Thread Giles Birch
Public bug reported:

I didn't actually notice the failed install. But connectivity went
away. I had to remove and re-install Samba from scratch to get it
working again. Note also that security=user seems to cause the Samba
server to be invisible to Windows 7 machines--by changing that one line
in smb.conf (from user to share and back again) I could toggle the
appearance of the server in my WIndows 7 network window (Win 7 Pro,
64-bit).

[Bug 869905] Re: Calls 'bzr whoami' for the exit code, but does not redirect stdout to /dev/null

2011-10-08 Thread Max Bowsher
The puzzling line of output is something like:

root r...@mymachine.someplace.tld

which appears without any explanation in the output of an apt operation
when etckeeper is invoked.

A suitable patch would be to simply add /dev/null to the bzr whoami
invocation in 50vcs-commit.sh

[Bug 870168] Re: Kernel Oops - Oneiric KVM/OpenStack triggers 'Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer deference'

2011-10-08 Thread Kiall
Just tested with the mainline 3.0.6-030006-generic kernel, still
panicking...

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.6-oneiric/linux-
image-3.0.6-030006-generic_3.0.6-030006.201110050043_amd64.deb

and ...

Just tested with the mainline 3.1.0-0301rc9-generic kernel, this kernel
after a quick test seems okay! Normally, I would have managed to crash
the server by starting/stopping/starting/stopping this many VMs (Until
now, 4x starts has always triggered the issue .. I'm on about 15 now.. )

Damn - 3.1.0-0301rc9-generic lasted *much* longer, but eventually ended
with another Oops...

[Bug 870168] Re: Kernel Oops - Oneiric KVM/OpenStack triggers 'Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer deference'

2011-10-08 Thread Clint Byrum
I believe we saw this on an intel Emerald Ridge box w/ 40 cores recently
as well with the latest Oneiric while at the OpenStack summit. This is
actually one of Canonical's spare kernel build machines, and should be
directly available for testing.

[Bug 853045] Re: On/off button no longer goes red to indicate that a restart is necessary

2011-10-08 Thread James Pursey
Exactly the same thing happened on my other computer this morning. I
noticed that I wasn't prompted to reboot the computer after a new kernel
was installed, which I thought a bit odd. But when I started the
Software center the button turned red. I think this is another bug so
I'll start a new bug report.

[Bug 870484] [NEW] Update notifier doesn't properly prompt when restarts are necessary

2011-10-08 Thread James Pursey
Public bug reported:

I have experienced this bug on two different computers. I have noticed
that when a system restart is necessary the user isn't notified until
the software center is launched. This morning a new kernel was
installed, and I thought it strange that I wasn't prompted to restart
the computer. However, the on/off button turned red the instant the
software center started. I had the same issue yesterday on a different
computer.

this report will get more attention, as that bug is already triaged. And
the messages of install failure are the same as in that bug.

[Bug 818177] Re: boot failures because 'udevadm exit' times out while udevd waits for an already-dead thread

2011-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
The root error is that in worker_new(), at lines 353 ff., the worker
threads process signals and udev event handling requests in the same
loop. If it happens that both the signal and the event are received
close enough together to be returned in the same epoll_wait(), and the
udev_monitor handle is listed *first* in the epoll_event list, the
worker will receive the event message (which increases the refcount on
the udevd master side), then process the signal, and immediately exit
without handling the event.

This should be handled by processing fd_signal first, and only if
SIGTERM was not received, process fd_monitor. This ensures that we
always exit ASAP after receiving the signal, instead of going off and
processing another event that could take an indeterminate amount of
time.

[Bug 775543] Re: xhci_hcd: Timeout while waiting for a slot - Issue with USB3 hard disk on 11.04 x86_64

2011-10-08 Thread henning
on a fresh kubuntu 11.04 installation i mostly have exactly the same
symptoms as first poster except that after adding pci=nomsi to
/etc/default/grub my usb 3.0 disk is detected sometimes. Never directly
after boot if plugged in but every 3rd time or so if plugged in after
boot. Perhaps time out for device wakeup is too short? Hope it's a
useful clue

It is getting worse and worse. After updating yesterday, I'm getting 3
crashes when I boot today, without doing any action!

The other two bugs are Bug #870509 and #870511

And while reporting the 3 bugs also firefox crashes...

[Bug 818177] Re: boot failures because 'udevadm exit' times out while udevd waits for an already-dead thread

2011-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
Tried that; doesn't work because the master process already thinks the
event is dispatched as soon as it sends it, whether or not the worker
process acts on it with recvmsg(). So I guess we need to try to process
the event after all.

Bug is more than 2 years, old, confirmed, really annoying, probably
affecting much more people than those who took the time to report it,
probably easy checking and fixing, still undecided and unassigned.
So what ? Should we start torturing kitten until somebody puts a helping

[Bug 863156] Re: Brightness unchangeable via keyboard or brightness applet Acer Aspire 5750-9668

2011-10-08 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 850544] Re: Internet stops working when connected through wifi

2011-10-08 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
