[Bug 874135] Re: mail-stack-delivery does not install postfix-dovecot sasl authentication with dovecot 2.x

2011-11-22 Thread albatros
The version in oneiric-proposed appears to be working perfectly for me.

I reported the issue in october on IRC, thanks for fixing it so quickly!
I had been using my own patch in the meantime, so that's what kept me
from testing your patch.

[Bug 893550] [NEW] Oneiric fails to boot after upgrade from Natty if /etc/fstab contains a cgroup mount entry

2011-11-22 Thread Matthias Kretz
Public bug reported:

I used LXC on this machine. Therefore I had to add a cgroup mount and added the
recommended line
none /cgroup cgroup defaults 0 0
to /etc/fstab. This results in an unbootable system after upgrade to Oneiric.
Apparently the boot just stops when it comes to mounting the entries in
/etc/fstab.

I would expect that either
a) the system doesn't hang when this is added to /etc/fstab
b) on upgrade the package detects this condition and removes/comments the
according line in /etc/fstab so that the system is still bootable.

** Affects: libcgroup (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

   * Use remaining space on the stick for glance storage

service, identity, horizons, etc...
   * default to LXC (and run a full ubuntu)
    * Exercises LXC
    *
   * Two avail zones: kvm, lxc (wishlist)

cloud-live exposes people to Ubuntu Cloud Infrastructure. (Pull it out
and use it periodically/experiment.) What does a cloud infrastructure
  feel like.

Instead of GettingStarted, have Go and a gettingstarted

Target a 4G RAM as a testing case (min) and preferably more. 16 GB disk...
Use existing disk space? (loopback, external disk, etc. Cleanup afterwards.)
From a kvm/virtual machine launch, it is typical

A sibling project of juju-live. Juju is very network intensive. bzr repo
  and lots of apt-get.

orchestra-live-provisioning (with real world installs as remnants.)
Probably drop rsyslog, etc. With sufficient squid cache to make the
install more or less run without outside network.

cobbler dev system (smoser can explain).

2011-11-22 Thread Dave Walker
Blueprint changed by Dave Walker:

Whiteboard changed:
  Rationale:
S3 is a faster, more scalable technology that allows us to reduce costs and
increase availability for EC2 users.

  Assumption:
    * Running on-EC2 mirrors is expensive and presents availability challenges.
    * on-EC2 mirrors have limited bandwidth and thus speeds can be affected by
load
    * S3 has very high availability
    * S3 intra-region bandwidth is free
    * on-EC2 mirrors results in bandwidth charges when users use a mirror
outside the availability zone
    * S3 is extremely fast. Generally speeds to S3 access are near-native
    * Amazon has asked for us to host our mirrors on S3
    * Uploads to S3 are free

+ No. EVM is now upstream. There is room for trusted boot work,
+ especially as a demonstrable, better, and more flexible alternative to
+ the uefi-based 'secure boot'. But this list is not right. Particularly
+ for a useful server solution, I'm thinking it might be better to wait

[Bug 893550] Re: Oneiric fails to boot after upgrade from Natty if /etc/fstab contains a cgroup mount entry

2011-11-22 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug.

I suspect this bug is actually in cgroup-lite. When I try to reproduce
with libcgroup, cgroup-bin actually fails to install. Can you confirm
(dpkg -l | grep cgroup) that cgroup-lite is the one installed? If so,
I'll re-target.

I confirm that cgroup-lite is installed. That's also the package which I
reported the bug against in launchpad. Seems to be a launchpad feature
to hide that information. ;-)

Heh, baby steps. 5.5.18 was released *6 days ago* .. this packaging has
taken nearly a year. Lets land 5.5.17 and then I'm certain we'll ship
5.5.18 in 12.04.

[Bug 893550] Re: Oneiric fails to boot after upgrade from Natty if /etc/fstab contains a cgroup mount entry

2011-11-22 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ah, it (now?) comes from the same source package.

Thanks for the info. Question now is what to do about it.

I'm loath to have the cgroup-lite automatically removing fstab entries.
The alternative is to fail install, or simply stop (but sucessfully) the
upstart job, if a cgroup entry is in fstab.

I'm assigning temporarily to stgraber to get his opinion.

[Bug 893735] [NEW] native support for X.509 v3 certificates in openssh

2011-11-22 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

Some shops use x.509 certificates to restrict access to openssh.
(In fact, one shop I know of says that's how they kept a penetration tester
from getting too far.)
Upstream openssh refuses to support that feature because they feel it would
increase their attack surface (see
http://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-bugs/2008-June/006945.html ) and
they encourage users who need this feature to apply the patch from Roumen (
http://roumenpetrov.info/openssh/ ).

Perhaps Ubuntu can package openssh-x509 as a separate package, so users
who ask for normal openssh aren't subjecting themselves to the increased
attack surface, and users who need it can get it.

[Bug 893735] Re: native support for X.509 v3 certificates in openssh

2011-11-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Dan, this is a pretty interesting idea, thanks for bringing it up.

The best course of action would be to propose this as a package in
Debian, and sign up to maintain it. This is a lot of delta from upstream
that I don't think we'd want to carry in Ubuntu's main OpenSSH package,
so it would need to be a forked package.

I suggest Debian, because there's no real reason this should only live
in Ubuntu when some Debian users would benefit from it, and also would
be able to help with the maintenance of it.

So, my recommendation would be to file a WNPP bug in Debian:

http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

And then come back here and do an Also Affects Distribution with a
link to that bug.

As it stands, I think this is most appropriately expressed in Ubuntu as
a needs-packaging bug.
