[Bug 905313] Re: Fails to recognise Android or iP* devices
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. If upstream has stagnated and there is a different source which has continued development, it sounds like it might be an idea to switch. But this would be better coming from Debian so that the delta to Ubuntu can stay manageable, particularly since this package is in universe. Thus I'm marking the Ubuntu task as Importance: Wishlist. To take this further, you could file a bug against analog in Debian, and if fixed there it will filter through in the next merge. Alternatively, if you can provide a small patch for the particular functionality you need, then Ubuntu might be able to carry that patch, given that it is already carrying the Vista+7 detection patch (but note that I can't make that decision). ** Changed in: analog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to analog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/905313 Title: Fails to recognise Android or iP* devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/analog/+bug/905313/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 903993] Re: Don't hang waiting for input from commands
This makes sense to me. Its simpler even than you suggest. I see no good reason that cloud-init ever should read from stdin, so it should probably just re-open stdin as /dev/null. Any program that hangs waiting for input from a non tty like /dev/null is doing things wrong, or is being invoked incorrectly. I don't see this as High though, as it can be worked around by not running programs that wait for input from stdin. [Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.
Hi Peter, usually I wouldn't interfere, but the problem you have got seems strangely familiar to me. I once had this problem after a programm messed up the compiz settings. Try to look in the Compiz Settings dialog and look for the program switcher. It could be that the switcher settings are cleared. It could also be that the switcher settings in the Keyboard Dialogs is messed up (had this once in previous versions). This allways happend when turning on and off compiz in ubuntu. [Bug 894170] Re: libdvdread core dumps with invalid next size
rickyrockrat, yeah I tested against 4.2.0 which also includes a fix for Thor, but implemented differently than the patch we put in Ubuntu. That could be why the error I saw was so different than what you saw. Still, the DVD segfaulted for me as it had for you, and your patch (with a couple tweaks) made it not crash. I would agree with you that there's more work needed, and an onion is a good analogy. I've forwarded the patch upstream and will follow up on any improvements they can suggest. I'd encourage you to join the list if you'd be interested because it sounds like you could add a lot of value to the onion peeling efforts. [Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.
Success at last :). I installed all three debs and now the bamfdaemon runs. The problem before was that after killing the daemon, the (first) replacement version of bamfdaemon had been quite simply failing to start, so it's not suprising that no window management was functioning. I note that when I compiled the daemon myself it was 541.2KB in size (the same as the file I first downloaded from Paolo Stivanin, so apparently correct), but the latest one now residing on my system is much smaller, at 134.8KB, which is far closer in size to the original version of bamfdaemon (130.7KB). Very glad to have this working. Still cannot see what I might previously have done to break anything, though. Out of interest, I reverted the changes (result: system still working) and then installed ONLY the bamfdaemon*.deb. That gave me a working system, so the problem clearly lay with the intermediate (514.2KB) version of bamfdaemon, which would not start. I have since installed all three debs again to be on the safe side. Thanks for taking the trouble with this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/842566 Title: Libreoffice and unity integration broken. [Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.
Sounds like a problem with I/O, which I noticed a long time ago in 11.04. Unity and/or compiz seems to be severely affected by a busy disk. I agree it makes no sense -- why should the GUI be affected by disk activity at all... ? The bug description only mentions an increase of 200MB. While that's large, it shouldn't cause a huge change in the amount of swapping, unless caused by other processes. I think I saw someone had logged a bug for this elsewhere. Don't know the ID. [Bug 801840] Re: MCE Kernel Panic on kernel 2.6.38
@ Frank, really sorry to hear that beastie is on the scene :) I also tried the black list recently and it failed to solve the problem. However I've had very little time recently to do anything. I recall from ages ago when trying to blacklist other drivers that for some reason, sometimes its not sufficient to just add them to the blacklist - cant recall details anymore. My work around was to move the driver files off (eg /root). I then got errors at boot complaining bust at least I knew for sure it wasnt loading. If you havent alredy reformatted I was wondering if you could try that as a last ditch attempt. I'd be tempted to move all IR drivers out that can be found. Perhaps the Z7S loads a different one albeit for the same purpose and including the same issues. [Bug 905147] [NEW] QPrinterDialog ignores default settings from CUPS
Public bug reported: KDE as well as many QT-Applications use QPrinterDialog as their printing dialog. Thing is: This dialog ignores default settings defined in CUPS - it doesn't even remember that last settings that were chosen. I know this is a QT issue but I kindly ask you not to close this bug as upstream and here's why: 1. This bug has been around for years now - the first report to Nokia about was back in 2008 if I recall correctly. 2. A user doesn't know and doesn't care about whose fault it is. He just knows, that he set his printer settings to default to duplex in CUPS and that his QT applications don't print duplex. At first he might shrug and set duplex in the dialog. Next time the setting is back to simplex. The same is true for other options like collate and color settings. It's just a huge usability issue. 3. The fix below has been adopted by other major distributions for quite some time now. It works for duplex, collate and color settings. 4. It saves lots and lots of trees! I think it does not work for paper size and in general it doesn't fix the problem that QT can't remember the settings you choose in the print dialog. The paper size may be read from the configured defaults easily, too, but settings saving may be a bit harder. However, you'd implement this fix, you'd do something VERY good for Ubuntu - especially since 12.04 is meant to be an LTS release! If you could even improve the fix that would be huge! Here's the fix from the KDE bug tracker: https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=41187 More info: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180051 https://bugreports.qt.nokia.com//browse/QTBUG-6471 (and https://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-23037) and other bug reports from the comments there. For Oneiric I've made a patched version in a PPA of mine that you could look at. You'll see it's really a minor modification that doesn't take any effort at all to implement. You can find it here: https://launchpad.net/~dhertel/+archive/myfixes As a side note: I know that KDE is not the default environment in Ubuntu, but it's getting more important for people since Gnome2 officially is no more and Unity isn't exactly better when one doesn't even like Gnome3 to begin with. So I hope this makes it into Precise... [Bug 773861] Re: Moving windows is very laggy with Compiz
I have reverted the proposed fix for this bug in ppa:vanvugt/compiz, but kept the critical timing fixes which I think will still help significantly. In theory this might eliminate some jerkiness (skipped frames). Please update and try the new version vv7. Let me know if it's any better, and what version you think it's better/worse than. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773861 Title: Moving windows is very laggy with Compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/773861/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
