[Bug 1002443] Re: php5-fpm exposes full ubuntu package version in headers

2012-05-22 Thread Ondřej Surý
I think that full version number is important and we will gain no extra
security by hiding it by default, just more pain when debugging. You
always have an option to disable the headers yourself, if you think it
will gain you any extra security.

[Bug 1002443] Re: php5-fpm exposes full ubuntu package version in headers

2012-05-22 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Security by obscurity doesn't actually work. Hiding the version number
will not affect whether your system is secure or not, and it's quite
likely that an attacker would simply run his script regardless of the
version number displayed on your website.

If this is important in your environment, please use expose_php to
disable the banner in your configuration.

[Bug 1002762] Re: package libcommons-cli-java 1.2-3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: cannot access archive: No such file or directory

2012-05-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

We will be following a model similar to the kenel SRU process:

+ what is a valid sru
+ regular conditions apply
+ Process (simplified)
+ 1. Bug is opened in launchpad for the openstack project.

test suits ran
+ 3. project is uploaded to -proposed

Neet to communicate / articulate S3 importance to the Hardware Management and
Mobo track.

  Steps
1a. Make sure functionality that is needed by PowerNap is in OCP
1b. Make sure that PowerNap supports OCP monitors / etc
   2. Make PowerNap part of the required specification
   3. Software
   - Authenticated/encrypted packet over a network to pass a power comand.

   - PowerWake - IPMI support.

  User Stories:

Frank wants to be able to take advantage of the OCP hardware power
savings features by making use of S3. PowerNap provides a framework for
which it can effectively monitor various aspects of the machine (in
userspace) and determine when the machine is not utilized.

By making use of PowerNap, Frank will be able to obtain power savings by
using S3 on his servers, when these are not being in use as determined

[Bug 594840] Re: Many connection_read(): no connection! warnings from OpenLDAP server when using ldapi:/// and a bind DN (no external authentication)

2012-05-22 Thread Mark A. Ziesemer
Some interesting comments left in the notes field at
http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Software%20Bugs?id=6548 :

fixed in master
fixed in RE24

So hopefully this means that a fix is pending - eventually?

** Description changed:

  Reported upstream at
- http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Incoming?id=6548 , but it needs to
- be re-opened there.
+ http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Software%20Bugs?id=6548 , but it
+ needs to be re-opened there.

Many connection_read(): no connection! warnings are written to
/var/log/debug and /var/log/syslog by slapd. As stated at
  http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-software/200811/msg00079.html ,
this is apparently not a problem with slapd, but a client that is
  disconnecting without first unbinding.

This appears to be an issue with the libldap client library provided by
OpenLDAP itself (2.4.21), and not the slapd daemon.

Issue is reproducible even by just using ldapsearch -H ldapi:///, but
only if a bind DN is specified (-D) and external authentication is not
  used.

Running slapd with logging enabled (-d 8) shows the attached 3 sequences
  - ldapsearch command followed by the slapd logs. Note that the
connection_read(): no connection! is only visible on the middle pair.

If this can't / won't be fixed in the client library, the logging of the
connection_read(): no connection! event from slapd should at least be
demoted to a lower level so that it doesn't fill the default logging
output, without having to change the overall configured logging level
and potentially missing other logged events that do require attention.

  Ubuntu 10.04, libldap-2.4-2 : 2.4.21-0ubuntu5

Also still confirmed in Ubuntu 11.10, libldap-2.4-2 :
  2.4.25-1.1ubuntu4.1

[Bug 1002894] [NEW] auth_token middleware should be in its own subpackage

2012-05-22 Thread Chmouel Boudjnah
Public bug reported:

The auth_token middleware is a shared middleware used by different
OpenStack components as WSGI middleware for validating
credentials/tokens.

Currently a user needs to install the full python-keystone package to
get only the middleware when installing a swift proxy (or glance
controller etc...).

It would be nice if this is broken out to its own.

** Affects: keystone (Ubuntu)

in the postinst script which should segfault.

Please check your memory using memcheck (f.e. from Ubuntu CD)

[Bug 1001846] Re: cobbler fails to install with error code 1

2012-05-22 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
better.

I am a little confused on why this bug report is present. I'm wondering
whether you were using any special HW configuration or any special OS
configuration as I have been unable to reproduce this bug report, and
having had installed cobbler many times on various different
architectures, and not once I had these issues, I was wondering if
there's something I'm missing.

Regards,

[Bug 1001846] Re: cobbler fails to install with error code 1

2012-05-22 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Oh, forgot to say. Please edit the following file:

sudo vim /var/lib/dpkg/info/cobbler.config

and add 'x' to the first line:

#! /bin/sh -e

So it looks like:

#! /bin/sh -ex

Once this is done, do:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure cobbler

Answer the questions and please paste the output as that information
will help us determine what the issue might be.

should just focus on a hardened install and not so much about exposed
version info in their header.

[Bug 1002443] Re: php5-fpm exposes full ubuntu package version in headers

2012-05-22 Thread Nathan Williams
@bkerensa, thanks for the constructive contribution to the
conversation... i discussed this with a couple folks in #ubuntu-server
and one of the Ubuntu php maintainers, and filed this with their
feedback.

@all, i'm well aware that security by obscurity is no solution, but as
noted by Francois in the linked Debian bug, shipping sane defaults is a
reasonable expectation. Advertising the full package version by default
just makes it easy for scans to identify vulnerable targets. this is
clearly irrelevant in a targeted attack, but it could keep you off a
low-hanging-fruit list generated by malicious scanning, which i find to
be of value.

So the question should be: what's the value in advertising this
information by default? As noted in the bug description, I think php
version information similar to the information provided by Apache,
Nginx, etc. does make sense to an extent, just not listing the full
package name.

I'll agree with Francois in the linked bug, this is ultimately the
maintainers decision, and I'll respect the decision, though I think that
a pro vs. con analysis comes down clearly on the side of a better
default, be that normalized version info or turning expose_php off.

This looks like an upgrade from a third party PPA
(2012.1~e4~20120210.12585-0ubuntu0ppa1~lucid1) used on 10.04. Nova
didn't officially exist in Ubuntu until 11.10. Marking Invalid as this
is an unsupported upgrade path.

[Bug 930916] Re: [SRU] amavis start-stop script fails to stop amavisd

Uploaded to precise-proposed ready for SRU team review.

** Summary changed:

- amavis start-stop script fails to stop amavisd
+ [SRU] amavis start-stop script fails to stop amavisd

** Description changed:

- On Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin using amavisd-new 2.6.5-0ubuntu3 the
- amavis start-stop script fails to stop the daemon.
+ [Impact]
+ sudo service amavis restart completely fails to restart the amavis daemon.
+
+ [Development Fix]
+ Drop use of --name flag with start-stop-daemon as this is surplus to
requirements and is the root cause of this issue. This was applied in Debian
in revision 1:2.7.0-1
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ Cherry pick same changes to init script from latest version.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ sudo apt-get install amavisd-new
+ sudo service amavis restart
+ Stopping amavisd: (not running).
+ Starting amavisd: The amavisd daemon is already running, PID: [{xxx}]
(failed).
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal - very isolated change in init script which only impacts this package.
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
+ On Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin using amavisd-new 2.6.5-0ubuntu3 the amavis
start-stop script fails to stop the daemon.

  What occurs is the following:
  sudo service amavis restart
  Stopping amavisd: (not running).
Starting amavisd: The amavisd daemon is already running, PID: [{xxx}]
(failed).

The installer script for amavisd-new has some errors as well probably

I disagree, the problem seems to be an impossible circular dependency
problem, which after so many iterations
looks like it is blowing up... IE segfault.

[Bug 338720] Re: Function lookup problem after calling setlocale(LC_ALL, tr_TR)

2012-05-22 Thread Seyfi
Hi,
I reported bug #988963 which was marked as duplicate of this one.
Actually, the test case reported here does not generate said error as of Php
5.3.0, that's why I opened a new report rather than continuing with this one.
But, the root of this issue reported upstream at #18556 is still unresolved and
affects classes, interfaces.

[Bug 722770] Re: openipmi: change lock file path since /var/lock/subsys/ does not exist

2012-05-22 Thread Wart
This bug was reported against Lucid, but the fix was released for Natty.
I still have this problem on my Ubuntu 10.04.4 servers. Did I miss the
Lucid update, or is the fix only available for Natty and later releases?
