[Bug 819304] Re: gvfsd-cdda crashed with signal 5 in _g_dbus_oom()

2012-05-23 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
Workaround for this: Use Banshee (instead of Rhythmbox) or RipOff
(instead of Sound Juicer). They both work since they are using different
software to read Audio-CDs.

[Bug 1003790] [NEW] the global menu integration disappears sometimes

2012-05-23 Thread Niklas Rosenqvist
Public bug reported:

Sometimes, without any settings being changed, the global menu
integration stops working. The only way I've found to fix it is to
remove all the configuration in ~/.mozilla/firefox. I'm running Ubuntu
12.04 x64 desktop and firefox firefox 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

(p.s. I see now that there probably might be something else causing this
issue since the Unity dash doesn't open on top of windows longer either,
it's behind the open windows, and I didn't change any settings in Compiz
either)

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available"

2012-05-23 Thread tdn
Luis, I would like to do as you suggest. My partition table is seen here:
http://paste.adora.dk/P2408.html

/dev/sda1 is /boot
/dev/sda5 is the LUKS encrypted partition containing LVM with swap and rootfs.

So, what is the procedure?
Will the following work?

apt-get update
apt-get install cryptsetup initramfs-tools lvm2
modprobe aes-x86_64
modprobe dm-crypt
modprobe dm-mod
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda5 pvcrypt
vgscan
vgchange -a y barbera
mount /dev/mapper/barbera-root /mnt
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
chroot /mnt
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-3.2.0-23-generic
reboot

?

Do I have to mount /proc, /sys or other inside the chroot? Anything else
I should be aware of?

[Bug 997076] Re: network manager not in sync with DHCP and local resolv.conf

2012-05-23 Thread Wolf Rogner
commenting dns=dnsmasq out in the NetworkManager.conf leaves the
/etc/resolv.conf file intact.

I will test this on my other machines.

Unfortunately, the upgrade changed this setting to use dnsmasq.
It also is set in the default installation.

It solves my problem, thanks.
It creates another problem: Changing this setting in 2+ PCs.

We'll see

Considering giving up on the Realtek device and going a different

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-23 Thread Karolis
what is your lightdm version? mine 1.2.1
if i do `ps -ef | grep lightdm` while writing this post i get:

root 1108 1 0 May23 ?00:00:00 lightdm
root 15862 1108 4 May23 tty7 00:04:14 /usr/bin/X :0 -auth
/var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch
root 15916 1108 0 May23 ?00:00:00 lightdm --session-child 12 25

there's already `--sesion-child` running as root. i couldn't find
documentation anything else that running `lightdm --session-child`
myself:

Usage: lightdm --session-child INPUTFD OUTPUTFD

it exits with value 1 "if (argc != 4)"
looking at source code of lightdm 1.2.1 those two integers stands for
"from_deamon_output" "to_deamon_output"

running `lightdm --test-mode` on pts gives me the same Xephyr requirement, but
running it on tty says:
"Failed to get D-Bus connection"

if i build ps tree `ps -ejH`:

PID PGID SID TTY TIME CMD
 1108 1108 1108 ?00:00:00 lightdm
 1163 1163 1163 tty7 00:06:39 Xorg
 1931 1108 1108 ?00:00:00 lightdm
 1962 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 sh
 1991 1991 1991 ?00:00:00 ssh-agent
 2008 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 xscreensaver
 2010 1962 1962 ?00:00:00 xfce4-session

which bring me back to questioning xauth. Xorg to be more specific. Don't know
why my gut says it's not lightdm..
Also - why last four processes goes under lightdm tree? from logic by process
name ok, but from parent pgid logic..?

(i'm writing this post offline. second day)
so i thought let's try good old `kill -9` and what i discovered - killing
lightdm doesn't do anything besides hanging the pc, but killing Xorg (in pts
hangs, in tty restarts gui interface in pts) and both ways killing Xorg creates
the file!

[Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-05-23 Thread Timothy Pearson
This bug also affects the Trinity Desktop Environment. I suspect that
all XRandR-aware programs will crash if active when an XRandR change
event is received and processed via XRRUpdateConfiguration() on certain
Xorg drivers.

For the record, downgrading xlibs and associated packages to their
respective Oneiric versions did resolve the problem for now.

[Bug 1003778] [NEW] Help system yelp should be found when searching on 'help' even if localized

2012-05-23 Thread markba
Public bug reported:

When searching for help, this is not found when the help system is
localized. In Dutch, this will be 'Hulp' and only on this search term,
yelp is found. It would help is yelp could be found by multiple
translations, in this case either 'help' or the localized version
'hulp'.

I've tried this in the HUD in Nautilus. The help system is named 'Hulp'
in the menu, but despite this fact, you can reach help by entering
'help' (see screenshot).

At least this is inconsistent behaviour between HUD en Dash.

Same hardware (Lenovo 750p), same fix, same problem with the fix
(battery detection). Oh well.

To test the fix, I pressed E in grub and added acpi=noirq after "quiet
splash".

To make the fix permanent, I went ot the line that said

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

in /etc/default/grub and edit it to look like

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=noirq"

This really an easy work around please a dummy nis script in the
/etc/init.d/ directory, when you run update of the update package it
changes the name of the nis script to nis.dpkg-bak which allows the
upgrade to succeed.

place the following contents in /etc/init.d/nis and chmod it 755.
Then run the upgrade to package nis_3.17-32ubuntu4_i386.deb

[Bug 826265] Re: flipped webcam image with libv4l on ASUS U31F

2012-05-23 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Still can't resolve this issue and camera in my Google Chrome still
flipped upside down.

This doesn't works for some reason aswell:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so google-chrome

So while visiting this URL: https://apprtc.appspot.com/?r=12169946 - the
image is still flipped.

How can I remove old/buggy libraries to allown only latest fixed ones?
Possibly create some symlinks to replace them for all applications?

[Bug 998309] Re: remove vim-tiny will remove ubuntu-minimal

I can't seem to find any reason why vim-tiny specifically is in minimal

elaborate here. nano is actually smaller than vim-tiny and its rdeps

[Bug 998309] Re: remove vim-tiny will remove ubuntu-minimal

2012-05-23 Thread Logan Rosen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 100029 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/100029

(1) This is not a "bug," per sé; vim-tiny is a dependency of ubuntu-
minimal, so it makes sense that APT would want to remove ubuntu-minimal
if you removed vim-tiny.

(2) Now that we've established that this isn't a bug, in the past, it
has been requested, namely in Bug #100029, that vim-tiny be removed from
ubuntu-minimal's dependencies, but it was marked as "Won't Fix." Thus, I
will mark this as a duplicate of that bug, as this bug seems to imply as
well that vim-tiny should not be a dependency of ubuntu-minimal. Please
note, however, the related Bug #908132, which recommends that ubuntu-
minimal depend on a meta package rather than vim-tiny.

Hope this helps!

[Bug 559163] Re: Dell Latitude D600 hangs on wakeup from suspend

2012-05-23 Thread Jeff
The two things that absolutely worked for me on the Dell Latitude D600
were :

1) Setting the primary password in Bios (I'm running version A16)
2) Modifying the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX setting in /etc/default/grub as follows:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="radeon.modeset=0"

Nothing else worked.

Since I'd prefer not to have a primary password, (it's a useless
feature), I went with the second solution.

I tried adding the lines in #2 to a xorg.conf file but it didn't seem to
help for my ThinkPad X200. The mouse is barely usable and I see high cpu
usage for kworker in top. It happens every time I use my laptop, but
usually not for the first few minutes, so if there is a good way to
debug kworker issues I could probably help track down the problem.

[Bug 786191] Re: window menu doesn't open with decorations turned off

2012-05-23 Thread quequotion
Experimenting with bug 1002602, I found a workaround for this.

If you don't need the decoation bar:

Set "Decoration Windows" to "none"

Leave other settings as they are.

The window menu (alt+right click or space) will be available.

Windows will also have shadows for borders.

If you don't need shadows or any kind of border:

Adjust the settings for "Active/Inactive Shadow"

Leave "Shadow windows" set to "any"

Without this, the decorator will not run, ergo no window menu.

[Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-05-23 Thread danrgmc
I would like to be added as a subscriber to this bug. This finally lists people
with the same type crashes/logouts I have been getting ever since I installed
12.04-x86_amd64. I also receive the same error messages. I can watch videos in
2d mode without problems-when I switch to 3d I start getting random restarts. I
have tried Nvidia drivers 295.40, 295.49, 295.53, 302.07, finally 302.11.
@reason just to let yu know the 30*.** drivers are in the repos.
(ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa). Just last night I upgraded to Ubuntu mainstream kernel
v. 3.4. No problems-with the difference that now I can watch a video for 30-45
minutes without crashing instead of 2-5 mins. Instead of reverting to the
version 290.** some of you did I'm just going to stay with 2d until this gets
fixed.

@albertomilone-good luck!

[Bug 991977] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 hangs on shutdown

2012-05-23 Thread Dan Woodard
I attempted to run from terminal 'ubuntu-bug linux', but since I'm
running 3.3.4-030304-generic #201205011755, I can't. Suggested action
to properly report the bug?
