In addition to devising an algorithm for dnsmasq to detect all and only NNNs, the implementation of which will no doubt take a while, we should consider implementing a quick fix too, along the lines suggested by Sergio in #19. NM could be changed to do the following. If the nameserver address list to be fed to dnsmasq contains one or more local addresses followed by one or more non-local addresses then run dnsmasq with the --strict-order option. I must confess that I am not sure what exactly should fall under local addresses here. In IPv4 I presume that these would be the familiar ranges 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, 192.168.0.0/16, but what about IPv6? For IPv6, I'm tempted to treat it as a tabula rasa and explicitly not support NNNs. the rationale being that NNN support is to work around historical bad practice and such bad practice is not supported in the brave new world of IPv6. If that won't fly, then the IPv6 equivalent would be link-local (fe80::/64), site-local (fec0::/10) and ULAs (block fc00::/7), I think. Removed VLAN -:eth0.101:- ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 3232 Set name-type for VLAN subsystem. Should be visible in /proc/net/vlan/config Added VLAN with VID == 101 to IF -:eth0:- ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 3341 [ OK ] The messages from your syslog would indicate that the server is not able to retrieve a IP address from the DHCP server for eth0.101, interestingly it does do a release: DHCPRELEASE on eth0.101 to 192.168.101.1 port 67 but is then not offered a new address. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu. For some reason the backuppc process has either not terminated or has terminated uncleanly leaving a pid file lying around which is blocking this upgrade. I was not able to replicate this either during upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 or by re-installing on 12.04. Did you upgrade from 11.10 or from 10.04? Please can you check to see if PID 1634 is actually running: ps -aef | grep 1634 If it is then: sudo service backuppc stop if it is not then: sudo rm -f /var/run/backuppc/BackupPC.pid and then run the following to complete your install: sudo apt-get -f install I'm marking this but as 'Incomplete'. Public bug reported: ubuntu 12.04 winbind 3.6.3 I'm trying to use winbind as authenticator in a samba (v 3.5.10) domain. At logon winbind doesn't authenticate if I don't restart the daemon. [Bug 1006898] [NEW] [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
Public bug reported: There is an issue with the way nova uses dnsmasq in VLAN mode. It starts up a single copy of dnsmasq for each vlan on the network host (or on every host in multi_host mode). The problem is in the way that dnsmasq binds to an ip address and port[2]. Both copies can respond to broadcast packet, but unicast packets can only be answered by one of the copies. In nova this means that guests from only one project will get responses to their unicast dhcp renew requests. Unicast projects from guests in other projects get ignored. What happens next is different depending on the guest os. Linux generally will send a broadcast packet out after the unicast fails, and so the only effect is a small (tens of ms) hiccup while interface is reconfigured. It can be much worse than that, however. I have seen cases where Windows just gives up and ends up with a non-configured interface. This bug was first noticed by some users of openstack who rolled their own fix. Basically, on linux, if you set the SO_BINDTODEVICE socket option, it will allow different daemons to share the port and respond to unicast packets, as long as they listen on different interfaces. I managed to communicate with Simon Kelley, the maintainer of dnsmasq and he has integrated a fix[3] for the issue in the current version[1] of dnsmaq. Since Ubuntu has unmodified debian package, and debian maintainer is upstream maintainer, we should probably let the quantal package get synced from debian. Hi there, Does this problem only happens right after a reboot? IIRC, this might be related to having keepalived after networking is started. it is up to upstart/sysvinit to start the daemon, and then this happens? Are you obtaining an IP address with DHCP or is it statically configured? Could you try to stop and restart the service and see if the issue is seen again? Thank you in advance! Steps 1a. Make sure functionality that is needed by PowerNap is in OCP 1b. Make sure that PowerNap supports OCP monitors / etc 2. Make PowerNap part of the required specification 3. Software - Authenticated/encrypted packet over a network to pass a power comand. - Server side - Monitor to wakeup certain disks based on jobs. - PowerWake - IPMI support. User Stories: Frank wants to be able to take advantage of the OCP hardware power savings features by making use of S3. PowerNap provides a framework for which it can effectively monitor various aspects of the machine (in userspace) and determine when the machine is not utilized. By making use of PowerNap, Frank will be able to obtain power savings by using S3 on his servers, when these are not being in use as determined by PowerNap, and will be able to wake them up on demand. Assumptions: - OCP Provides HW that supports S3 - OCP Has provided the functionality needed by PowerNap - OCP provides HW to test PowerNap functionality. Test Plan: - Install PowerNap in OCP hardware and make sure it works as expected.
