[Bug 1015819] Re: sb_sasl_generic_pkt_length: received illegal packet length when using ldapsearch and sasl with ssl or tls
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please could you explain the impact of this bug? Hi Hugo, First of all, I wouldn't recommend doing an upgrade jumping a release over, you went straight from 11.04 to 12.04 without upgrading to 11.10 first, this is not supported and can have unexpected complications. Unfortunately looks like there's some kind of corruption in your InnoDB files. InnoDB: Error: auto-extending data file ./ibdata1 is of a different size Looking at the MySQL forums this is the recommended way to repair this: Your error log states mysql does have the support it needs to run with innoDB support but you`ve modified the size of the ibdata1 file withouth removing the old file first. In case you did not have any innodb tables in your mysql installation it`s safe to remove it and restart mysql in order for it to recreate that file. IF you did have data in innodb tables, you should edit your my.cnf file and restore the size value of the following line to it`s default: 'innodb_data_file_path=ibdata1:200M:autoextend ' // 200M was not the default at installation . After which you should export the database using mysql_dump or any other export method you prefer, remove the ibdata file, edit my.cnf with new size, restart mysql, import old data and you should be done. Marking this bug as invalid since it's not related to packaging and it's a database data corruption. ** Changed in: mysql-5.5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013641 Title: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/1013641/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

It seemed to have resolved the issue until I performed a reboot and logged into a terminal console. Upon logging the opening session showed I still had the 39+ updates available, so proceeded run the update process with the following command: Sudo apt-get upgrade Being very optimistic, I thought this process was going to verify the previous upgrade process quit very soon after. Sadly this has not been the case and I'm now in the same situation as before. I have captured the following information from the terminal screen which is has running more than 15hours: Unpacking replacement linux-libc-dev ... I think personally this process is hung and the only alternative option is to use Ctrl-C to terminate this action. Incidentally, when attempting to run the GUI Package Manager during the above state, a message pops-up reporting 'Not all updates can be installed - Run a partial upgrade, to install as many updates as possible'. When you choose to close the window, another pops-up reporting the following: Software index is broken It is impossible to install or remove any software. I'm going to leave the bug as Incomplete for now, since this is the bug tracking system and as we don't have steps to reproduce or demonstrate the bug it isn't clear if this is a bug after all. For support on your individual system, you can find pointers on how to get help here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community If you later find that this is a bug rather than a local configuration or corruption issue, please put more details here and change the bug status back to New. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016018 Title: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.62-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.1/+bug/1016018/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 911317] Re: bacula crashes while starting backup
Since migration there are about 1-2 crashes per week. The server is completely down afterwards. Sometimes it helps to CTRL-ALT-ESC, sometimes you'll have to pull the cord (hard reset). It is all times the same: no memory available and killed processes therefore. Since the very same server runs without any problem until bacula-director is started, I assume it's a problem related to bacula-director crunching up all memory. I've tried to give some more memory to the server, but this only helps for short. Soon or later the server crashes again, because of out of memory conditions. Doesn't really matter how much memory the server has. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bacula in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/911317 Title: bacula crashes while starting backup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bacula/+bug/911317/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1016592] [NEW] libnss-ldap should not depend on libpam-ldap
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 12.04, libnss-ldap (264-2.2ubuntu2) should not depend on libpam-ldap (via ldap-auth-config and ldap-auth-client). Currently, if one installs libnss-ldap, libpam-ldap also gets installed through dependencies. Installing LDAP name services does not - should not, actually - imply requiring authentication via LDAP. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. libnss-ldap recommends libpam-ldap, which is the same as on Debian. Public bug reported: Imported from Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/678555: Package: autofs Version: 5.0.6-2 Severity: important User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu quantal ubuntu-patch After merging 5.0.6-2 for Ubuntu I have noticed that upstart init daemon was tracking the wrong PID of the daemon. [1] This resulted me into digging what has changed and I noticed the three patches, which I have attached to this email. These patches [0001-0003] do three things: * Check mount.nfs version to be = 1.1.1 * Check kernel version is = 2.6.22 * Do above by calling nfs_version_check at pre-demonisation, hence upstart ending up tracking `mount.nfs -V` call * all for the sake of figuring out if probing optimisation can be used (or something, not too sure): The change to have the kernel process text based mount options can introduce lengthy timeout waits when attempting a mount to a host that is not available. To avoid these waits autofs should probe singleton mounts if it thinks mount.nfs will pass text options to the kernel (which of course implies the kernel supports this). But, mount.nfs 1.1.1 is acient and so is linux kernel 2.6.22... so I'm thinking to make this a no-op. and simply remove those checks. See mine Remove-*.patch attached. With that patch I want to revert the upstream patches [0001-0003]. Setting priority to important as this is change of daemon behaviour and resource waste to fork calls like this. Feel free to lower severity, if you wish. [1] Upstart does not rely on pidfiles, instead it counts forks/clones and chooses the correct pid to track, such that it notices if it dies / gets killed. This is more reliable than pidfiles. Upstart can also run daemons in foreground mode. -- Regards, Dmitrijs. ** Affects: autofs (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Dmitrijs Ledkovs (dmitrij.ledkov) Status: Fix Committed ** Affects: autofs (Debian) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #678555 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=678555 ** Changed in: autofs (Debian) Remote watch: None = Debian Bug tracker #678555 ** Changed in: autofs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: autofs (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Committed ** Changed in: autofs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: autofs (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Dmitrijs Ledkovs (dmitrij.ledkov) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016673 Title: Extra forks on automount initialisation HUP signal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autofs/+bug/1016673/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 991308] Re: DNS Querying fails if any DNS server is unreachable
Does the standalone dnsmasq behave the same way? To find out, disable nm-dnsmasq by commenting out the line dns=dnsmasq in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.com. Restart network-manager. Then install the dnsmasq package. If standalone dnsmasq also misbehaves then turn on log-queries mode: add the line DNSMASQ_OPTS=--log-queries to /etc/default/dnsmasq and restart dnsmasq with sudo /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart. When you look up names dnsmasq will now log its actions in /var/log/syslog. [Bug 1016695] [NEW] add console=tty0 to cloud-image kernel boot parameters
Public bug reported: I use VMware vSphere Client's to manage my Ubuntu 12.04 cloud-image based vm's. vSphere is able to display the console of the vm as it boots but because the default kernel boot parameter is set to use console=ttyS0 I can't see anything until booting is done unless I manually add console=tty0 first. [Bug 1016695] Re: add console=tty0 to cloud-image kernel boot parameters
The kernel actually does a good job of handling multiple 'console=' items. It then writes the same data to each of them (if they're valid devices). However, when init (upstart) takes over, it only writes to /dev/console. So whatever the /dev/console means to the kernel is the only place that output from upstart or it subprocesses will go. I think the kernel picks the last of the 'console=' items on the command line to tie to /dev/console. It may take the last *valid* entry, i'm not sure. So, when upstart starts, and then starts running jobs (such as cloud- init) their output goes to /dev/console, and not to the other 'console=' places specified on the command line. What all that means, is that I think we can fairly harmlessly add additional 'console=' lines to the command line, and have kernel messages go there. However, upstart messages will *not* go to those places. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016695 Title: add console=tty0 to cloud-image kernel boot parameters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1016695/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1016592] Re: libnss-ldap should not depend on libpam-ldap
Thanks for your answer. We actually have install-recommends disabled in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d If you look closely, you will see that libnss-lap depends on ldap-auth- config, which in turn depends on ldap-auth-client, which in turn depends on libpam-ldap (thus the indirect dependency). Debian has no such ldap-auth-config package (and thus dependencies). In the end, maybe the problem lies more with the ldap-auth-config itself depending on ldap-auth-client. I understand the ldap-auth-config allows the seeding of the debcond database with the appropriate LDAP parameters for libnss-ldap to work. So maybe the the issue should be addressed at the level (by the maintainers) of the ldap-auth-config package rather than linnss-ldap's. Your call. Cédric, Sorry. I saw Recommends: libpam-ldap on libnss-ldap and assumed that it was the recommends, without considering that there may be an indirect Depends route. Scott, I think the following info is relevant to your comment. http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/serial-console.txt You can specify multiple console= options on the kernel command line. Output will appear on all of them. The last device will be used when you open /dev/console. So, for example: console=ttyS1,9600 console=tty0 defines that opening /dev/console will get you the current foreground virtual console, and kernel messages will appear on both the VGA console and the 2nd serial port (ttyS1 or COM2) at 9600 baud.

[Bug 991308] Re: DNS Querying fails if any DNS server is unreachable
Just noticed this as well: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/device.php?tier=-1devid=298e=0d3=0s=nso=0sc=1546 To quote the red bit at top: Comcast has identified a software defect on the Arris TG852 and TG862, which may cause problems for a small number of users attempting to use third party DNS services. Arris and Comcast are working to correct this issue and will deploy updated device firmware to resolve the issue. If a customer does not wish to wait for the updated firmware, the customer may email us at we_can_h...@cable.comcast.com and a replacement device will be provided at no cost to the customer. Although I am using the default Comcast provided DNS servers of 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76, so not sure this would affect it or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991308 Title: DNS Querying fails if any DNS server is unreachable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/991308/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
