[Bug 1023025] Re: [SRU] search fail with get_ctrls : controls require LDAPv3

2012-07-26 Thread PierreF
I confirm the version in proposed fix the issue:

* before installing proposed version, on fully updated precises : I still
reproduce the bug
* after installing slapd from proposed : I can't reproduce the bug.

Also on this machine, LDAP is used for local authentication, which still
work after update (so no regression seen).

[Bug 904532] Re: Provide a script to automate cleanup of _base

2012-07-26 Thread Bolke de Bruin
What happens if I trun on the cleanup and I have instances residing on a
glusterfs. Briefly reading the code (Ubuntu essex release) the image
does not get marked in use and will be removed. Is that correct?

If so, would this be configurable let's say with a
instances_path_is_shared flag?

[Bug 1015207] Re: juju setup fails, ERROR Invalid SSH key - 12.04 LTS

2012-07-26 Thread Ondrej Koch
What helped us was simply rebooting the node using PXE (the node should be in
allocated state). The node in ready state ends up shut down. So basically what
juju does is sending a wake-on-lan signal to start it. If you (like us) powered
the node up in ready state, you end up with this particular problem.
I hope it doen't matter we hacked the images a little so we could ssh to them
to see what's going on and imported ssh keys manually... it shouldn't...

[Bug 1029355] [NEW] euca-add-keypair could overwrite key files if the key is already added

2012-07-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

It's common for people to run:

euca-add-keypair $USERNAME ${USERNAME}.key

which works fine if your keypar is not already added. If it is added,
the .key file is overwritten with a message saying the keypair is
already added.

If we could have the key written to stdout and the already added
message is written to stderr, people would never end up with an invalid
key when following setup guides.

[Bug 1023550] Re: Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-26 Thread Scott Kitterman
I don't use mysql maps, but from a packaging perspective this looks
reasonably easy to fix. The tricky part (for me) will be testing it.
If you would send me a copy of your /etc/postfix/mysql-
virtual_aliases.cf (in private if you prefer and with the database
password changed - I don't need DB access, I just need to be able to
reach it to test), then I should be able to get this done in time for
12.04.1.

[Bug 1023550] Re: Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-26 Thread Hauke Duden
I cannot send you the one we use on the server. However, this one should
work:

hosts = www.ubuntu.com
user = testuser
password = testpassword
dbname = testdb
query = SELECT toAddress FROM mailgw_aliases WHERE fromAddress='%s'

If you get the following error then the problem still persists:
www.ubuntu.com: Unknown MySQL server host 'www.ubuntu.com'

If you get a connection refused error (or similar) then you know that
the DNS name was resolved correctly and the error happens when the
connection is made (which likely fails because www.ubuntu.com probably
does not host a public mysql DB). So that means that the fix works.

The criteria for post-release fixes can be found here:

I think any fixes you have that fit within those bounds can be included. You
would know better than us what it makes sense to apply.

[Bug 719833] Re: ssh upstart job fails to actually bring up ssh

2012-07-26 Thread zwigno
I'm getting something that sounds a lot like this bug in 12.04 LTS Server - I
have a dual interface home server with 2 nics. ssh, xinetd, and
isc-dhcp-server all fail to work correctly on boot and need to be restarted.
All 3 also have custom configurations for binding to one nic or the other.
eth0 is internal. eth2 is public.

ssh - different Listenaddresses/ports based on IP(nic)
dhcp - bound to internal interface only
xinetd - tftpd is bound to internal interface only

Other daemons that don't have a interface-specific config seem to work
fine (postfix, apache) or maybe they just don't care.

If it helps troubleshooting - I originally had an eth1 instead of eth2
but I swapped it out for a different model (3c905 for a intel e100) and
it registered as eth2. eth0 has stayed the same (RTL8168e).

I tried setting ssh to run on started network-manager but that didn't
seem to work. I'll try what Seeger suggests above and do the net-
device-up IFACE=eth2 to see if that helps.

   Hello, world!
   It's Alive!!!

   [Regression Potential]
Minimal - the change is isolated to JNDI lookups by Name and is in later
 versions of tomcat7.

Original Bug Report
I realize that Tomcat was just upgraded to 7.0.26, but there are a few
fixes in Tomcat 7.0.27, specifically issue 52830
 (https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=52830) which causes a big
problem for people, like me, who are trying to use the Tomcat connection pool
with Hibernate 4.x, which fails without this fix.

Currently I updated my deployment by hand, but I would much rather
have a proper package. I can't find a PPA, and my skill set is nil in
terms of the ability to create my own PPA for this. Many thanks!

[Bug 974584] Re: Semaphores cannot be created in lxc container

2012-07-26 Thread Stéphane Graber
** Description changed:

  [rational]
Current initscripts doesn't deal properly with chroots, bind-mounting
/run/shm to /dev/shm instead of making the later a symlink to the former.
LXC has been carrying a workaround for that, sadly the workaround stopped
working late in the 12.04 cycle, meaning that an extra chunk of code had to be
added to properly fix any broken container before applying the upgrade as any
initscripts update would otherwise fail.

  [test case]
  Two things to test:
  1) lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1
- 2) Check that /dev/shm is a chroot to /run/shm in the container
+ 2) Check that /dev/shm is a symlink to /run/shm in the container

  1) Get an existing container
  2) Update to -proposed
  3) Check that /dev/shm is now a symlink to /run/shm

  [regression potential]
There's a known risk for applications using shm during the upgrade as the
entries will be moved to another file system. As long as all the processes
accessing the file keep running, it should be fine, but it won't if another one
is spawned as it will try reading it from the new location. A warning is
displayed recommending a reboot.

The rest of the code was already tested with all known scenario and
should be sufficiently guarded to only apply to the affected systems.

Thanks to hallyn, there's a workaround and a fix: adding this line to the
container's fstab will fix the problem:
  none dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

He is updating the ubuntu template with this change.

[Bug 353835] Re: Please add 802.1Q/VLAN tagging support to NetworkManager

No, it's supported in NM regardless of the distro used; it's just not
easy to configure; depends on the proper use of the config files.
Closing as Fix Released.

To configure it you'll need to create a new connection manually in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections; something like a file VLAN615,
with the following contents (uuid needs to be generated, which can be
done with 'uuidgen -r'):

[connection]
id=VLAN615
uuid=ed3b2385-9016-45c6-a277-fa7e5be8fe9d

+1 for support it
Linux is nearly totally safe if all sofware source are authencicated
but in the practical case, users will bypass its check very easily by following
others *recipes*
For example, PPAs are DANGEROUS.

[Bug 353835] Re: Please add 802.1Q/VLAN tagging support to NetworkManager

2012-07-26 Thread Michael
Thanks to everybody. That helped a lot.

Now, is there any chance to get the VLAN connection up as soon as a
cable is connected? This works fine for 802-3-ethernet connections, but
apparently not for VLAN connections, right?

Unfortunately, nm-applet does not even show the connection at all. I
hoped, one could at least activate or deactive the VLAN connection with
nm-applet. Editing configuration would not have been necessary.

So, at the moment, am I right, that there is no other way than entering

nmcli con up id VLAN1

whenever I connect the cable?

Thanks again

Michael

[Bug 1023550] Re: Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-26 Thread Scott Kitterman
That worked. It turns out to be a one liner to fix it in the init
thanks to the way Lamont set it up. I've uploaded a test package to my
PPA - https://launchpad.net/~kitterman/+archive/ppa for precise. I just
now uploaded, so it'll be a bit before the packages are built. If you
can verify this works for you, I'll upload to quantal and precise-
proposed.

[Bug 1023550] Re: Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-26 Thread Scott Kitterman
** Description changed:

+ [IMPACT]
+
+ By hostname map lookups in the chroot fail. This requires users to
+ either unchroot their postfix, which is a less secure configuration,
+ manually create symlinks, or refer to remote map locations by IP address
+ (which is not a very maintainable solution. Absent doing the
+ workaround, mail deliver fails.
+
+ [TESTCASE]
+
+ Set up a postfix to use a remote mysql map using the /etc/postfix/mysql-
+ virtual.cf file shown in comment #3 (don't forget to restart postfix
+ afterwards). You will also need to have syslog running in your test
+ environment.
+
+ Send mail to postfix. This could be as simple as:
+
+ telnet localhost 25
+ ehlo example.com
+ mail from: postmas...@example.com
+ rcpt to: postmas...@example.net.
+
+ At this point you'll get a response that the message was deferred (450).
+ Check /var/log/mail.log and you should see an error like:
+
+ postfix/trivial-rewrite[20176]: warning: connect to mysql server
+ www.ubuntu.com: Unknown MySQL server host 'www.ubuntu.com'
+
+ This indicated a DNS lookup failure (the problem).
+
+ Install the updated package, restart postfix and connect again. The
+ message will still be deferred (450) due to lack of a working mysql
+ database at www.ubuntu.com, but the DNS lookup will succeed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ None. Worst case is I spelled the name of the new lib wrong and the bug
+ just doesn't get fixed.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ Although not the most common of use cases, I think it's an important one
+ to support for servers, so we should push to get this into 12.04.1.
+
+ [Original bug]
+
This is with Postfix 2.9.1-5 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  --- Setup to reproduce

  - Configure postfix to use mysql for virtual alias maps
  - Specify a DNS hostname instead of an IP address or localhost for hosts:

  --- Symptoms:

All postfix mail routing actions fail. The log contains:

postfix/trivial-rewrite[20176]: warning: connect to mysql server
my.example.com: Unknown MySQL server host 'my.example.com' (2)
  warning: mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_aliases.cf: table lookup problem
  warning: virtual_alias_domains lookup failure

The same configuration works fine if you specify an IP address instead
  of a DNS hostname.

  --- Cause:

libresolv is missing from the postfix chroot jail. That causes the mysql
client library used by postfix to not be able to resolve any DNS names.

  --- Workaround:

  sudo cp -p /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libresolv*
/var/spool/postfix/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
  sudo postfix restart

  --- Expected fix:

Fix the postfix installation routines to include libresolv in the chroot jail.
I do not know enough about this to provide a ready-made patch, unfortunately.

[Bug 1029682] [NEW] python-greenlet-dbg does not contain required debug symbols

2012-07-26 Thread Adam Gandelman
Public bug reported:

On 12.04, python-greenlet-dbg apparently does not include the debug
symbols:

ubuntu@server-4821~$ sudo apt-get -y install python2.7-dbg python-greenlet
python-greenlet-dbg
ubuntu@server-481:~$ python2.7 -c 'import greenlet'
ubuntu@server-481:~$ python2.7-dbg -c 'import greenlet'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File string, line 1, in module
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/greenlet.so: undefined symbol:
Py_InitModule4_64

The equiv. works fine on 12.10. I suspect the conversion to dh_python2
(part of Ubuntu delta in Q) explains why they now work.

2012-07-26 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug, the postrm script does indeed have a bug
which is present in precise but not quantal. Ill therefore mark this
fix released and request SRU for the postrm fix for precise.

** Patch added: Debdiff fixing this bug.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1029716/+attachment/3237980/+files/lxc-purge.debdiff

** Description changed:

+ =
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1. Impact: 'apt-get purge lxc' fails
+ 2. Development fix: accept 'purge' as a valid argument to the postrm script
+ 3. Stable fix: same as development fix.
+ 4. Test case:
+sudo apt-get install lxc
+sudo apt-get purge lxc
+ 5. Regression potential: this accepts 'purge', which is a valid option, as an
argument to the postrm script. If there were a regression it would only be
seen at package uninstall.
+ =
+
Occured while trying to purge all installed lxc packages.

[Bug 1028470] Re: apache2+ssl hangs on high load

2012-07-26 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Evgeny, you can use netstat -tnp |grep curl to get the other port
number of the connection from curl to apache2. With that, you can look
for the other end of the connection in netstat -tnp output. The last
column should give be 123/apache2 where 123 is the pid of the apache2
process. You will have to execute netstat -tnp as root to get the info.

The backtrace of the child process you posted looks more like a process
that is waiting for a connection. But one would need the debug info
installed to be absolutely sure.

[Bug 996032] Re: Constant _ip6_config_add_nameserver: assertion `IN6_ARE_ADDR_EQUAL (nameserver, nameservers[i]) == FALSE' failed messages in syslog

2012-07-26 Thread Neil Wilson
It happens ever time. My v6 nameserver is issued by an Apple Airport
operating in tunnel mode. There is only a single nameserver issued and
it is the address of the Airport (much as the v4 nameserver is the
address of the Airport).

The RA issued by the router has a single recursive DNS entry in it.

I'm also seeing the Ubuntu machine issue a 'port unreachable' ICMPv6
message to any v6 DNS responses.

So the Ubuntu issues DNS query to port 53 over v6.
The router responds back to the UDP source port
Ubuntu then issues a 'port unreachable' ICMPv6 message.

I'm not seeing that on the parallel v4 query.

[Bug 1021783] Re: invalid behavior of curses.newpad().refresh()

2012-07-26 Thread bellbind
I reported the bug because of it is wanted to fix for Precise (not for
Quantal).

I found the bug when I tried the Python3 Official HOWTO doc:
It uses newpad function.

But I do not know any packages using curses.newpad() with Python3. There may be
reasons:
- python3 is minor than python now
- curses module is minor than other standard modules: os, io, xml
- newpad function is minor than essential functions for using curses: initscr,
cbreak

The bug is just raise error at calling the function. the fix changes from not
working programs to working well.
So I want the patch will be backport to Precise.

[Bug 1029273] [NEW] Network manager doesn't read /etc/network/interfaces correctly

2012-07-26 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

System Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (precise), network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1

I have the following configuration in /etc/network/interfaces:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
#auto eth0
auto eth0.1

The nm-applet shows this connection as ifupdown(eth0.1) correctly,
although this can of course not be edited.

However, when activating this connection, network-manager activates eth0
instead of eth0.1, which of course does not work. Here is the relevant
syslog:

Jul 26 08:11:50 LaptopMB NetworkManager[32517]: info Activation (eth0) Stage

As you can see, it is really not activating eth0.1 as written in
/etc/nbetwork/interfaces but eth0, although network manager 0.9.4 should have
support for vlan configurations.

If I am doing something wrong, please tell me what and how it should be
done instead.

Thank you very much.

[Bug 1029274] [NEW] close toolbar leaves blank space

2012-07-26 Thread jeremy-list
Public bug reported:

To replicate in libreoffice word:
1: Press ctrl-f or select find in the edit menu
2: Right-click the tab on the left of the find toolbar and select close
toolbar

I would expect the toolbar to disappear and the space to be reclaimed by the
document view
What actually happens is the content of the toolbar disappears but there is a
blank toolbar which now takes up some of the space that would ideally be used
for displaying the document.

One workaround is to drag the toolbar out into a popup window before
closing it.

[Bug 1006858] Re: gnomad2 can't transfer music tracks to Zen Vision:M MTP Player in 12.04 any more

2012-07-26 Thread Dirk Schuster
- different users confirmed this error nt only for gnomad2 but also for
Rhythmbox, gMTP and mtp-tools. It seems it's the same for qlix.

- downgrading from libmtp 1.1.3 to libmtp 1.1.0 solves the problem

So it seems to me it's not an gnomad2 but an libmtp issue

[Bug 1028436] Re: no partitions seen in installer dialog, gparted shows partitions correctly

2012-07-26 Thread Daniel Stoni
Hello, I did some further research and recognized this as an ancient issue.
Partman fails under certain conditions - for example unordered partition
numbers. Thus, I've removed the extended partition with it's logical drives and
recreated the partitions with installer / partman instead of using gparted.
Before, I've created the last logical drive first, this time the logical
drives were created starting at the beginning of the extended partition.

[Bug 1027949] Re: Improve workspace functionality under Unity

2012-07-26 Thread Lev Kokotov
Fully agree with the author. Unity needs to be configurable for power
users.

Also, I would love to see a generally more complete system configuration
utility. With every Ubuntu release, the number of configurations that
can be made by the user through the official configuration app
decreased. For example, in 10.04, changing themes was a matter of right
click - Change appearance. In 12.04, you need to run hack bash
scripts and install third-party applications to change themes at all.

Ubuntu tries to move towards the Mac OS/Windows simplicity and
obviousness. That's not necessary a good move. The OS should be easy to
use for beginners - yes, however power-users should also have the
opportunity to easily configure the system to their liking. That's what
Linux spirit is all about!
