Hi Eric, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report. I've confirmed that this bug exists all the way back to lucid. In fact it also affects CentOS/RHEL 6. I cannot seem to get krb5_cccol_lock or unlock to link. I'm not sure its a bug though. The function is not exported, so it shouldn't actually appear in an upstream build of the library. ./src/lib/krb5/libkrb5.exports:krb5_cccol_cursor_free ./src/lib/krb5/libkrb5.exports:krb5_cccol_cursor_new ./src/lib/krb5/libkrb5.exports:krb5_cccol_cursor_next Those 3 are, but these two are not listed. Its not clear to me that the packaging is doing anything strange to build and link the libraries. I suspect this may be something that upstream does differently depending on how you build it. It would be helpful in figuring out how this can be fixed if you provided the exact steps you used to produce libraries with these symbols from upstream source. Thanks David, I can confirm libpam-smbpass is already installed and services were restarted after making the change. The results are the same. Full system also rebooted for good measure. There seems to be something iffy with the permissions: The rpcclient output for enumprivs is identical for both a member and non-member of the lpadmin group. I'm sure your fix will solve my problem, just as soon as I get my permissions in check. I've never seen anything like this with postfix before. take a look at upstream commit 6e83d0bd31721ac86003530dd2450221dd05d0c2 These functions were added later and were used by a Mac-specific project that had a different export list. Python converts all syslog messages to UTF8 before sending to syslog. It
also prepends the Byte Order Mark (BOM) of the Unicode Standard. This
prepended BOM causes bad characters when using rsyslog (have not
verified with std syslog or syslog-ng).

Interesting find on issues from another site:
Yes,  is the Byte Order Mark (BOM) of the Unicode Standard.
Specifically it is the hex bytes EF BB BF, which form the UTF-8
representation of the BOM, misinterpreted as ISO 8859/1 text instead of
UTF-8.
Probably what it means is that you are using a text editor that is
saving files in UTF-8 with the BOM, when it should be saving without the
BOM. It could be PHP files that have the BOM, in which case they'd
appear as literal text on your page. Or it could be translated text you
pasted into Joomla! edit windows.
The Unicode Consortium's FAQ on the Byte Order Mark is at
http://www.unicode.org/faq/utf_bom.html#BOM .
Note that if I edit the file: /usr/lib/python2.7/logging/handlers.py as
shown in this patch, the bad characters go away:

AFAICT current patch breaks Custom markers (menu 'Object Objects to
Marker'):
- Newly created custom markers are not added to list of available markers
anymore (can't be applied).
My mistake - this broke much earlier in current trunk (between r11072
and r11084, based on tests with archived builds - probably when
replacing the deprecated GtkOptionMenu with GtkComboBox. I'll file a
separate report about this.
- Custom markers already existing in the defs section (e.g. from
the user template file, or when editing an existing file) are listed,
but don't stick when selected as {start,mid,end}-marker (immediately
reverts to 'None').
Again using a sloppy test case: the custom template file (attached) used
for testing contains a 'hybrid' custom marker with a 'stockID' attribute
added manually:

Had that random freezing with Xubuntu/Xmonad. Changed radeon 5870 to nvidia 450 - still hangs. Reinstalled to 12.10 alpha3 - hangs. The server is at fault for failing to negotiate correctly. However, from the user experience perspective, the problem happens because of upgrading Ubuntu. The problem doesn't exist in Oneiric. The problem does exist in Oneiric. Also, Precise is a Long Term Support release. LTS releases are not supposed to break software that works. It doesn't matter where the fault ultimately lies--ultimately it's the Ubuntu user experience that is broken. If a user can switch to another distro, or to Windows, and avoid the bug, then Ubuntu has failed, and Bug #1 has regressed. Linus Torvalds understands this: he's famous for saying Don't break userspace! even if it's ultimately userspace's fault. Why doesn't Ubuntu understand this? The solution is simple: disable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 by default until servers are fixed. Doing this will not cause any problems. There is no data to support not doing this. Doing this will fix a real problem for real people. There is plenty of data to support doing this. What is Ubuntu waiting for?
