[Bug 990337] Re: BSNL USB Capitel EVDO not working after upgrade to 12.04
Any update on this ? I really dont want to manually compile and risk it getting broken. [Bug 1029531] Re: cdromupgrade from Lucid to Precise failed with unmet dependencies without network connection
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1135477 seems to be the entire opposite of a CD- only upgrade. E.g., > Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mono /libmono-corlib2.0-cil_2.10.8.1-1ubuntu2.2_all.deb Could not resolve 'security.ubuntu.com' So you've told apt about versions of packages from precise-security via apt-get update, then taken the machine offline? Not surprising that it then fails the upgrade. This is meant to work including for systems that *can't* run apt-get update; and needs to be fixed by analyzing the upgrade errors in the apt upgrade log, and getting those packages included in the package pool on the alternate CD, or otherwise hinting packages out of the way that can't be installed. [Bug 1034269] [NEW] Wicd opens dozens of "Wireless Network Authentication Required" windows
Public bug reported: I think there is something wrong with my wireless range extender, it keeps dropping connections. However, wicd-gtk handles this particularly badly, when I come back to my computer I find dozens of "Wireless Network Authentication Required" windows. Since this is hardware related rather than password related, I don't know why wicd needs to pop up these windows, but in any case there is no point having more than more than one of these windows open at the same time. I would expect wicd-gtk to never fill up my taskbar with authentication windows. A workaround is to run while wmctrl -c "Wireless Network Authentication Required" || wmctrl -c "Wireless Network Authentication Required"; do sleep 0.1 ; done (The || is only required as wmctrl returns false if it gets a transient X error, so adding the || makes it more robust. [Bug 1034264] [NEW] Network Manager problem with WiFi
Public bug reported: I have set-up a bridge (br0) on eth0 of my laptop, as I'm using KVM from time to time. This is the content of /etc/network/interfaces: aaa@xxx:~$ cat /etc/network/interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual auto br0 iface br0 inet dhcp bridge_ports eth0 bridge_stp off bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 My problem is, if I boot WITHOUT a live connection plugged into the ethernet port of my laptop, NetworkManager sees my WiFi as "disabled by a hardware switch". As such, I can't use WiFi when there's no LAN. I can use WiFi when there's a LAN connection present, but it defeats the purpose of having a WiFi connection. [Bug 1034263] [NEW] Change of UI for Multiverse, Universe
Public bug reported: In synaptic categories having a section for each category with a different section for Universe, multiverse and main is quite confusing. Universe / multiverse / main are actually filters rather than catgories. In any case if at all the should exist, it should be as subcategories and not different categories. My personal sugeestion would be to have 3 checkboxes somewhere at the top / side top for Main, Universe, Multiverse, and then their values should be respected while performing a search or going to a category. Alternatively, the the pane where packages are displayed with columns like S, Package name, Latest version etc. Another column can be added saying "License" which displays against each package if it is in main, universe or multiverse or restricted. [Bug 909488] Re: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide
Update: I've gotten Dropbox working by downloading it from the website and using the Deb installer (which, conveniently, is offered by default). So the situation is this, it seems. There are three possible ways to install Dropbox: 1. Download it from the Dropbox website and install it with the Deb installer. 2. Follow the procedure recommended on the Dropbox website. 3. Install nautilus-dropbox using Synaptic or another Ubuntu package installer. All three of these are plausible, but only the first one yields a working Dropbox (for me, at least). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/909488 Title: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-dropbox/+bug/909488/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There are a lot of unrelated problems reported in this bug. The original problem was this: ls: cannot access /lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/lirc: No such file or directory The solution to this would be to patch lirc.postinst to look in /lib/modules/$KERNEL/kernel/drivers/staging/media/lirc A debdiff for lirc is attached which should fix the original issue of this bug. [Bug 1034258] [NEW] UFW Fails, blocking access to EC2 Server after dist-upgrade (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, i386)
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Hi, This bug has gotten me enough times with my Amazon EC2 servers. Only now do I realise that it is after running dist-upgrade. When updating using apt-get upgrade, UFW, keeps working as expected even if I reboot. I followed up with apt-get dist-upgrade specifically because I wanted to update the kernel. After the reboot, I cannot SSH into the server. This is a critical bug because I cannot access my EC2 server! What options do I have other than to loose the entire server, and beg software vendors to issue me another license because the server is still running, I simply cannot access it at all via ANY port? Not even the web services via HTTPS are available! This also means that I loose all contents of the server not on a separate, attached storage! This has happened numerous times but only now have I been able to conclusively pin it down to UFW failing after running dist-upgrade. Until this bug is fixed, I suggest anybody should not use UFW on EC2 servers. Or if you must, disable and remove it altogether before rebooting after having executed dist-upgrade and upgraded the kernel/image. My server is running the x86 version of 10.04 LTS on Amazon's EC2. No further details are available since the server is no longer accessible. The problem can be reproduced as described above. This is not a direct vulnerability, but it is certainly a security concern since it leads to a situation where the firewall must be disabled. ** Affects: ufw (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amazon ebs ec2 firewall ssh ufw ** Visibility changed to: Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034258 Title: UFW Fails, blocking access to EC2 Server after dist-upgrade (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, i386) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufw/+bug/1034258/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1034256] [NEW] SDL/OpenGL program (Frogatto) gets erratic behavior when resizing
Public bug reported: This issue affects Frogatto: 2d adventure game, #frogatto on freenode, www.frogatto.com When entering Frogatto's editor, which uses a different window size, Unity gets stuck flickering between the game's window size and the editor's, for several seconds, until settling on either. Given the following exchange on #ubuntu-unity, this issue also affects QEMU and KVM, which also use SDL for graphics. marcavis: what toolkit does the editor use? marcavis: I've seen the same bug happen with QEMU/KVM windows. It's probably compiz to blame. hmmm, makes sense... Frogatto just uses SDL/OpenGL, no specific GUI toolkits marcavis: Yes, QEMU/KVM uses SDL too marcavis: I can't remember if there ever was a bug for it. [Bug 1034255] [NEW] shadow in topbar
Public bug reported: What happens: I have a maximized window (firefox) in background. Currently my topbar looks good as it blends into the infrastructure. Now I open gnome-terminal. It opens in unmaximized state. Now all of sudden my topbar looks crazy with shadow over the firefox window making some of the firefox top UI difficult to look at. What should happen: The topbar should not cast a shadow. This behaviour is inconsistent in maximized mode and minimized mode. Also when I open another window I just expect the overlapping part of the underneath window to get obstructed. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 962469 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/962469 There's unfortunately not enough information here to know anything about the issue with blueman; but I'll take a wild wild guess and mark this as a duplicate of bug 962469; which is what people most often run into with blueman at the moment. [Bug 909488] Re: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide
I forgot to mention: on a different machine, also running 12.04, I see that the "dropbox" package is installed and the "nautilus-dropbox" package is not installed. And on that machine, Dropbox works. [Bug 909488] Re: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide
I'm a Dropbox user. Dropbox worked fine for me under 11.10; on this machine it does not work under 12.04. I tried the procedure recommended by Dropbox: cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64"; | tar xzf - ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd And I soon got this: pwa@pwa-K60IJ:~$ dropbox start -i Starting Dropbox... Dropbox is the easiest way to share and store your files online. Want to learn more? Head to http://www.dropbox.com/ Error: Trouble connecting to Dropbox servers. Maybe your internet connection is down, or you need to set your http_proxy environment variable The installation of Dropbox failed. Is this a Ubuntu bug or a Dropbox bug? I have no way of knowing, and from the earlier comments in this bug I conclude that there's no agreement about that. Meanwhile I struggle.
[Bug 69648] Re: Misleading "To be installed" list when *unmarking* package with uninstalled dependencies
When I mark a package with dependencies, (say 0AD, it asks me that dependecies are needed, and gives me "Mark" option) . Now when I realize I dont need that package, and go to it to unmark, it again says that the dependecies will be affected, and "Mark" them. This should be replace with Unmark them option, and probably another option, Leave the dependencies marked. Another usecase of this bug is vlc-fluidsynth. Marking that once makes required download size = 137MB. Now unmarking that still has download size = 137 MB as it dependencies never got unmarked. There is absolutely no way to undo a mark except to manually go a track each and every dependency and unmark it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/69648 Title: Misleading "To be installed" list when *unmarking* package with uninstalled dependencies To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/69648/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
