[Bug 362427] Re: Public key ssh auth doesn't work with my Encrypted Home Directory

2012-08-11 Thread Florian Rathgeber
I don't think the workaround in #12 is practically useful unless you
want to disallow password-based logins. The password is needed anyway to
unlock the ecryptfs key, so imho typing it in once on first login is way
easier than authenticating via public key and then manually unlocking
the encrypted home. Especially since key based authentication works fine
on subsequent sessions i.e. if the user is already logged in at least
once and the home directory is therefore unlocked.

[Bug 1034921] Re: [needs-packaging] sun-java-fonts

2012-08-11 Thread Pander
I understand sun-java6 is no longer packaged because of critical bugs
that aren't fixed. This was relating only to the font files but I
respect if these cannot packaged separately.

[Bug 818760] Re: update-manager crashed with timeout in readline(): timed out

2012-08-11 Thread Steve Langasek
https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/bin/update-
manager:timeout:download:urlopen:open:_open:_call_chain:http_open:do_open:getresponse:begin:_read_status:readline
shows 2000+ instances of this error in the month of August for the
precise-updates version of update-manager, vs. 1 instance for the
precise-proposed version (which is probably a misreported version).
This is strong evidence that the bug is fixed.

[Bug 973778] Re: Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager

2012-08-11 Thread Bazon
OK, I got the problem again.
So your commands give me:
xfce4-power-manager --quit
(no output message)

xfce4-power-manager --no-daemon
Energieverwaltung für Xfce: Eine andere Energieverwaltung läuft bereits
which means translatet:
power manager for fxce: an other power manager is now running.

and in fact, as I looked in my task-manager, there was still an instance of
xfce4-power-manager running.
After killing that instance,

xfce4-power-manager --no-daemon

gave me the output:
(xfce4-power-manager:2226): xfce4-power-manager-WARNING **: could not map
keysym 1008ffa8 to keycode

but in fact, the power manager is now running and working.

[Bug 1035558] [NEW] SSL handshake error when connecting to api.samurai.feefighters.com

2012-08-11 Thread Scott Wagner
Public bug reported:

I am receiving an SSL handshake error when connecting to my credit card
gateway. Ubuntu version is 12.04. OpenSSL version is 1.0.1-4ubuntu5.3.
Server is running on an OpenStack VPS

I can connect to the gateway without errors from Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora
17. Interestingly, if I specify SSLv3 (openssl s_client -connect
api.samurai.feefighters.com:443 -ssl3) then I can connect without
errors. I find that interesting and unexpected becuase
api.samura.feefighters.com does not accept SSLv2 connections, and
because I understand that the version of OpenSSL included in Ubuntu
12.04 is compiled without SSLv2 support.

I have attached the output of openssl s_client -connect
api.samurai.feefighters.com:443 -debug

Let me know if there is any other information I can provide.

[Bug 1024848] Re: mission-control-5 assert failure: *** glibc detected *** /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5: double free or corruption (out): 0x0000000001756790 ***

2012-08-11 Thread Steve Langasek
This is probably the same as bug #984475 (i386) and bug #984450 (amd64).
errors.ubuntu.com reports no instances of either of these bugs with the
SRU version:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5:***%20glibc%20detected%20***%20/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5:%20double%20free%20or%20corruption%20%28out%29:%20ADDR%20***

https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5:***%20glibc%20detected%20***%20/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-
control-5:%20munmap_chunk():%20invalid%20pointer:%20ADDR%20***

This is moderate evidence that the bug may be fixed, however the bug is
not so common that the lack of reports from precise-proposed makes this
a certainty.

It would be helpful if users who have seen this bug would install the
version of the telepathy-mission-control-5 packages from precise-
proposed, and confirm whether it solves the problem for them.

[Bug 1002357] Re: sort out udev rules madness (3 editions installed into 4 files)

2012-08-11 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]

   * Previously 3 different versions of udev rules where installed into 4
places (2 in the deb and 2 in the udeb)

   * This causes confusion, as multiple mdadm rules are run. It is not
clear to the system administrator which udev rule to override in /etc/.
It is even more confusing for remastering udebs, as different udev rule
was needed to be overridden there.

   * The solution is to use a single matching name udev rule in both deb
  and udeb

   * The upstream udev rule was chosen to be used as described in the bug
  968074

  [TESTCASE #1]

   * Unpack old deb and udeb into a temporary directory and execute a
  command similar to this:

  $ find quantal/ -name '*.rules' | xargs -L 1 md5sum

   * Expected output is 4 files and 3 unique hashes

   * Unpack new deb and udeb into a temporary directory and execute the
  same command:

  $ find precise-proposed/ -name '*.rules' | xargs -L 1 md5sum

   * Expected output is 2 files with identical hashes

  [TESTCASE #2]

  * create RAID arrays with different metadata formats
  - internal (0.9, 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2)
- - external DDF
- - external ISMS

  * check that udev rules assemble all of above RAID arrays

  * expected results:
- - old udev rules assemble internal metadata only
- - new udev rules assemble all three
+ - both old and new udev rules assemble these arrays

  [Regression Potential]

   * Same as in the bug 968074, the default udev rule has changed. Users
who relied on the previous, incomplete/broken, udev rules may be
pleasantly surprised or annoyed that the udev rule name has changed to
match the one of Debian and upstream.

   * System administrators need to check their /etc/udev/rules.d/ to make
sure that (a) they do not override mdadm rules (b) if they do, check
that those overrides are still needed (c) that the override is named to
match the new udev rule name.

[Bug 1013996] Re: gnome-language-selector crashed when Apply System-Wide button was clicked.

2012-08-11 Thread dino99
Feedback after having installed the new packages :

- language-selector-gnome 0.85
- aptdaemon 0.45+bzr852-0ubuntu2

and logged out/in

Then selecting System Settings and switching a few languages for
testing: apply to whole system now works without crashing.

Can probably set this report as fixed.

Re: [Bug 607796] Re: Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2012-08-11 Thread Pablo Almeida
@John Lea

I'm sorry to say that drag and drop from the Dash to another window is
currently NOT supported. It only works for files in Nautilus, as far as I
know. Dragging a file from the Dash to a browser to, for example, upload
photos to Google+ does not work.

2012/8/10 Rolandas Garla (Gmail) 607...@bugs.launchpad.net

 @John Lea;

I'm sorry John, I didn't mean to offend any of the contributors that
dedicate their time. You're right, it's easy to stand aside and comment.
My comments were out of frustration and aimed at management rather than to
dedicated and hardworking contributors. What I was trying to say was that
something is not working right at the higher level, i.e. what is the point
of pushing release after release of only half-baked product. In my opinion
it's counter productive. This bug and many others just demonstrate this.
What I'm saying is not helpful, I agree. I'm not a developer but I have
some experience in s/w development project management as part of my job.
After spending a few years with ubuntu as a user, I regret to realise that
it lacks direction and attitude that is so much needed, especially if you
are to compete in the OS market.

I'm sincerely sorry if I offended anyone, it wasn't my intention.

 Regards

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher

2012-08-11 Thread Edmund Laugasson
There is also problem with shells.

In the file /etc/passwd I set:
user:x:1001:1001:,,,:/home/user:/bin/false

In file /etc/shells I added
/bin/false

Also checked:
# ls -l /bin/false
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22896 apr1 06:09 /bin/false

But still can user log in as regular user through GUI. I would like to
create user for FTP server (vsftpd), that works only with FTP and not as
regular user.

I noticed, that at the file /etc/lightdm/users.conf there is written:
hidden-shells=/bin/false /usr/sbin/nologin

What does this mean? If /bin/false is hidden, then it is not active and
user can still log in? I even tried to remove that /bin/false but it
didn't help - still can user log in even its shell is /bin/false

[Bug 1013016] Re: Firefox css transform:rotate(-90deg) stopped working on FF v13.0

2012-08-11 Thread Chris Coulson
It works fine here. Note, that until Firefox 16 you should be using the
prefixed versions (-moz-transform, -webkit-transform, -ms-transform,
-o-transform et al), and that hasn't changed recently.

Without any other information (eg, a code example or URL of broken
site), one can only take a wild guess at what your issue is. For that
reason, I'm closing this for now.

[Bug 872044] Re: Bluetooth 'Send files' returns permission denied error

2012-08-11 Thread Steve White
Here is a work-around:

Again, the Linux bug has something to do with waiting for an acknowlegement
prompt on the receiving device.
This still needs to be fixed.

There is a free (as in beer if you watch our ad) Android app called Bluetooth
File Transfer (very well done in fact).
With it you can disable the Receiving security prompt.
That done, files can be transferred from Linux.

(Using this app, one can also turn file browsing on.
Once that is done, in Linux, just re-pair the devices, and voilà, file browsing
with Android!)

Thanks, but please have a read of the bug reporting guidelines before
reporting bugs (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs - a link is
provided on the submission form). In particular, using Apport to report
Firefox bugs is mandatory. Also, it requests that you try it in another
browser, which would have shown that this issue also occurs in Chrome
(which means that it's most likely not a Firefox bug)

[Bug 816400] Re: NM can't power off Ericsson F3507g WWAN (but can power it on)

2012-08-11 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Okay, the logs are fine. I see the added CFUN=4 seems to be accepted and
works.

What do you mean by net information? And do you use autoconnection?
There might be some other bugs related to the enabling applet switch. I
recommend turning it on before starting the connection. If autoconnect
is on, it is sufficient to just switch it on to start the connection.

And for the case that you had to turn it off and on again, I have
experienced something similar with my previous Ericsson module. Turning
it off and on using the keyboard switch let me connect again.

I think we can conclude that the patch was successful (given those other
observations would be there without the patch too).

[Bug 1035573] [NEW] IcedTea out of date / Java applets don't run on Chrome 21

2012-08-11 Thread Ibrahim M. Ghazal
Public bug reported:

When trying to run Java applets on Google Chrome (for example,
http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp ), I get the following message:
IcedTea was blocked because it is out of date. [Run this time] [Update
plug-in...]

Clicking [Update plug-in...] takes me to
http://icedtea.classpath.org/wiki/Main_Page and doesn't update it.

Clicking [Run this time] gives the message Could not load IcedTea-Web
Plugin (using IcedTea-Web 1.2 (1.2-2ubuntu1.1)). and the applet refuses
to run. I also get the following if I ran chrome from the command line:

[Bug 1034470] Re: Mouse pointer flicker or disappear when moving it with left mouse button down

2012-08-11 Thread wonder.mice
I also thought that reason was unsupported hardware.
However, as I mentioned, pointer begins to flicker only after some application
changes cursor to animated one.
Before that mouse cursor is very smooth and behaves without any glitches.
So it looks like there is bug or problem that is triggered by setting cursor.
I am not very experienced in graphics, but for me it looks like after boot or X
restart Ubuntu using hardware cursor.
But after some app shows animated cursor Ubuntu switches to software cursor
(render it by itself). But probably my assumption is wrong.
Near the same problem I can see when running Ubuntu/Xubuntu inside Parallels
virtual machine (without Parallels Tools installed).
But in Parallels vm cursor flicker all the time when moved (even without any
button pressed) and disappears when non moving (cursor can be visible only when
moving). I think that's another problem, but possibly related.

[Bug 863051] Re: Broadcom bluetooth device BCM20702A0 [0489:e031] not supported

2012-08-11 Thread Kazimierz Uromski
Forgot to write: this 6.20.55.19 wl module supports 14e4:4365 wlan.
This package does not work with 3.2+ kernels (only 3.0), but maybe some small
changes will bring 4365 support to 12.04+ ubuntu?

In the all packages archive there are also some packages for bluetooth
part.

[Bug 1032887] Re: package indicator-weather 11.11.28-0ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-08-11 Thread Pi Dybi
sorry, but I have changed indicator-weather to my-weather-indicator
( https://launchpad.net/my-weather-indicator ) and have no problem...

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator

this is pretty and without crashes

[Bug 776422] Re: [Natty] Grub no longer recognizes raid5 array

2012-08-11 Thread lvm
I can confirm this bug for Oneric. I've added a new 6th disk to md raid5
(grew it), several days later I've uprgaded the kernel (apt-get dist-
upgrade), system was not rebooted between these two events. When grub
was configured for a new kernel numerous error: found two disks with
the index 5 for RAID md1. messages were diplayed (full
/var/apt/term.log below). System functions properly after the reboot.

root@server:/var/log/apt# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1]
[raid10]
md1 : active raid5 sdg1[1] sdf1[4] sde1[2] sdc1[0] sdd1[3] sda1[5]
  9767559680 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [6/6] [UU]

sda is the new disk.
