[Bug 1038044] Re: munin-node: apt_all does not Grok Ubuntu (possible regression)

2012-08-19 Thread Martin Jackson
Standby. In leaving this running overnight, it throws errors (or at
least warnings) if all categories are not actually enabled - as it turns
out, I haven't enabled -proposed on my firewalls. I need to rethink
the release determination mechanism slightly to account for this. One
more iteration of the patch, I think, will be needed - I should get the
fix in today, and I will let it run overnight to make sure there are no
unpleasant surprises.

[Bug 1038044] Re: munin-node: apt_all does not Grok Ubuntu (possible regression)

2012-08-19 Thread Martin Jackson
I have installed this on my test systems (mixture of Debian and Ubuntu),
and will post after this has run a few hours. There should be no
unexpected cron spam. If there isn't, I would request that the patch be
reviewed again and considered for inclusion in Ubuntu.

Clearly the fix part of this needs to get into Ubuntu; I would kind of
like for this to go upstream as well, definitely to Debian and if
possible to the main munin project. When (if?) the patch is adopted in
Ubuntu I will submit it to munin. I know there are other apt-based
distributions; what upstream wants may be different.

[Bug 1034454] Re: 12.04 Dist-upgrade breaks PHP extensions pdo_mysql.so symbols

2012-08-19 Thread aardvarkchris
@clint

Thanks- you're quite right! I don't know why I would have done that, now
to find out what's broken with the 'downgrade' of PHP.

Know anything popular that would have required building PHP 5.4 from
source? Guess I'll have to keep an eye on the logs, lame!

Moved the /usr/local/bin/php to /usr/local/bin/php.old.

Now $ which php
gives /usr/bin/php

But running $ php
gives: /usr/local/bin/php - not found

So I symlinked /usr/local/bin/php to /usr/bin/php and off we go :)

Thanks again.

Disabling anacron (sudo update-rc.d anacron remove) doesn't work because in

[Bug 790118] Re: chromium (and also chrome) crashes sometimes (segfault at bbadbeef)

2012-08-19 Thread michael frank
For the past 5-6 weeks whenever I used Chrome my computer crashed.
Sometimes everything, mouse, keyboard, programs, just froze but it can
also show a screenful of text describing various processes that led to
the point of no return. the word 'Panic'is the one that catches my
attention. To judge by all the references to similar symptoms that I've
encountered on the net ,it appears that this is a fairly widespread and
long standing problem. I would be happy if I could find some way to
uninstall Chrome. It is'nt in Software Centre so I tried the 'sudo apt-
get autouninstall google-chrome'alternative. Alas, I'm still stuck with
it. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Michael.

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-08-19 Thread parq
@Matthew,
At least bug #86 seems to have the same core problem.

I've published a workaround in bug #86 that i'm going to copy here,
and fix this bug (#861171) and bug #86.

I think the problem is only related to PolicyKit, because this doesn't
handle correctly the 'auth_admin_keep' directive. When an admin user try
to halt/restart the system, this directive may ask for admin password an
allow only to admin users to halt/restart the system.

The workaround goes through modify the 'auth_admin_keep' to 'yes', which
allow to any user (admin o desktop user) to halt/restart the system.

This is not a full solution, but may be a step forward.

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-08-19 Thread parq
Workaround:

As I've commented previously, this partial solution is to modify this
file:

/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy

and change:

auth_admin_keep

to:

yes

Edit the file /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.consolekit.policy
using your favorite text editor. You will need root permissions.

Change the section relating to shutdown when others are logged in from

  action id=org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop-multiple-users
descriptionStop the system when multiple users are logged in/description
messageSystem policy prevents stopping the system when other users are
logged in/message

messageSystem policy prevents stopping the system when other users are
logged in/message
defaults
  allow_inactiveno/allow_inactive

and the section relating to rebooting when others are logged in from

[Bug 1038586] [NEW] VM crashes when safepoint and synchronizing

2012-08-19 Thread Karida
Public bug reported:

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# Internal Error (safepoint.cpp:300), pid=23231, tid=140562312316672
#  guarantee(PageArmed == 0) failed: invariant

I am running weka in my code. About 50% of the time it crashes the JVM, at the
same function: calcMargins(). Here is the function description:
http://fiji.sc/javadoc/weka/classifiers/bayes/net/MarginCalculator.html

What I do in my code is I set up few iterations of inference in the
bayes network:

while(iteration  10){
-mc.calcMargins(network); //to clear up the evidences in the bayes network
  -mc.setEvidence(node, 0); //to set the new evidences
-mc.getMargins(node);// to get the marginal prob. of a node
}

Usually the JVM crashes at the beginning of second iteration: the
calcMargins() function with the above error message.

Detailed error log:

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-08-19 Thread parq
I see this bug has triaged a lot of packages/apps.

I think this is a PolicyKit only behavior, and could be some related
issue with greeter (lightdm o gnome) related on how to handle the
request of admin password from PolicyKit.

The rest of packages/apps should be, imho, freed from this bug.

[Bug 1027153] Re: The dragged icon appears in the launcher for a split second after it is dropped into trash

2012-08-19 Thread Andrea Azzarone
When you drop a icon in the trash, the triggered operation can fail. We remove
that icon when we're sure that the operation has been successful.
E.g. quitting an application can fail, ejecting a device can fail, etc.

[Bug 1038588] [NEW] Upgrade to 12.04 breaks status notifications

2012-08-19 Thread Stephen Hill
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, byobu now doesn't display any
notifications at the bottom of the window. All I get is:

  0*$

at the bottom left of the window.
I have tried 'purging' byobu, and deleting the ~/.byobu directory, all to no
avail. One thing I have noticed, that is odd, is that the .byobu directory has
not been recreated.

[Bug 1038590] [NEW] Nautilus does not work with SMB Samba shares

2012-08-19 Thread Adam Horvath
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04
Confirmed on 2 machines.

Server: Apple Time Capsule, fw 7.6.1

The Time Capsule is listed by twice by name in the browse network (one for AFP
and I guess the other one is SMB). When connecting to the AFP share, it asks
for the u/p then lists the shares.
When clicking the SMB part, it shows empty list, like there were no shares
(does NOT ask for password).

When connecting manually to the IP address of the Time Machine
(smb://10.0.0.1), it will keep asking for the password, saying auth is
unsuccessful. When connecting to a specific share by IP
(smb://10.0.0.1/Data), it lists the entries correctly but cannot copy
directories, only files from it (eg: there is a directory called DIR and
there is a file called DIR/a.jpg. When entering the directory, a.jpg can
be selected/copied, but the whole DIR cannot. When copying the DIR, it
will create a FILE called DIR instead of a directory on the target then
abort the copy).

Manually mounting the share from command line works perfectly.

The problem is exactly as described here:

[Bug 593047] Re: distcc fails to distribute to IPv6 addresses [Please import 3.1-5 from Debian, no Ubuntu changes required]

2012-08-19 Thread Daniel Hartwig
These three patches are all the upstream changes to fix IPv6 issues:
- r650 is small and required for ipv6+zeroconf to work correctly;
- r673 is already included in 3.1-4ubuntu2 (oneiric and later);
- r678 may be considered optional, nice to include for full ipv6 support.

The regression potential of r650 is tiny, given the small size of the
patch it is easy to verify.

Although fixing several other issues, 3.1-5 may not be suitable for a SRU due
to unrelated packaging and path changes. Especially these:
- 08_gnome-data-public-dirs.patch: install desktop and icon files for
  distccmon-gnome /usr/share/applications and /usr/share/pixmaps
  respectively (LP: #512288)
  * use dpkg triggers to dynamically generate/update compiler links
based on the ccache packaging. Thanks to Daniel Schaal
(Closes: #651670)

See also Bug #521165 for another small patch worth considering (also
fixed in 3.1-5).

[Bug 1035018] Re: Boot error with Scsi Enclosure Services - Ubuntu 12.04

2012-08-19 Thread Joao Carlos Franco
The message
ata_id[821]: HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for '/dev/sdb': Invalid argument
shows also when I boot from external disk with
- another notebook: Asus A6Tc
- a different disk: WD Passport
- a different LinuxMint 12 Lisa
So it is an old problem not yet solved.
Based on https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27060 I did on LinuxMint 12:
cat /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules
and attached this file
The relevant lines of the file seem to be the 3 lines after
# Run ata_id on non-removable USB Mass Storage (SATA/PATA disks in enclosures)
I think ata_id must be patched but I am not an expert.

[Bug 1038063] Re: alt-tab shows windows from other workspaces but alt-grave does not

2012-08-19 Thread Omer Akram
thanks for the bug report. Can you please describe a few steps to
reproduce this problem?

In my case both alt-tab and alt-grave show only windows on the current
workspace. However if I disable the option to 'bias alt-tab behavior'
then it seems that alt-tab and alt-grave switchers both become workspace
aware.

Whe reporting a bug please do mention which version of Ubuntu and Unity
you have installed. We have a very simple way for that i.e. by reporting
bugs using the command 'ubuntu-bug unity'

[Bug 1038615] [NEW] Wacom Intuos 5 button touch moves the cursor to the top left corner

2012-08-19 Thread Thomas Beck
Public bug reported:

Hi guys!

Environment:
--
Ubuntu 64, Kernel 3.2.0-29-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 27 17:03:23 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Wacom Intuos 5 without touch (M)
Nvidia graphics card, propriatary drivers

$ apt-cache policy wacom-dkms
wacom-dkms:
  Installiert: 0.13.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1
  Kandidat:0.13.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 0.13.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/lekensteyn/wacom-tablet/ubuntu/
precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

My issue
---
Installed the wacom-dkms (http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Wacom_USB-Tabletts from
this ppa ppa:lekensteyn/wacom-tablet) package because Ubuntu 12.04 does not
deliver Intuos 5 support out of the box. With this package the intuos drawing
area works perfect, but When I touch one of the tablet buttons on the left side
with my finger (I don't need to press them) the cursor jumps up in the top left
corner, making this tablet unusable for me!

The pen has to be above the tablet too, to recognize the jump (using
gnome3, the exposee feature is triggered then what is even more
annoying)

Greetings Thomas Beck

[Bug 512413] Re: [Upstream] Calc database functions gives Err:504 when external sheet is used

2012-08-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Lucio, regarding your comments
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/512413/comments/13
:

The steps to reproduce are the same described in my first mail in this
thread.

Unfortunately, the steps provided are not click for click, as advised in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOfficeBugWrangling , and remain as
ambiguous as when you first wrote them.

You are welcome to provided click for click instructions, so this may be
marked Triaged as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1008025] Re: Limbo has no sound

2012-08-19 Thread Max Carey
I had the same issue (no sound, or only a couple of seconds of crackly
sound after killing pulseaudio) and was able to fix it with Wine 1.4.1
installed by running:

$ export WINEPREFIX=~/.limbo/limbo
$ winecfg

Then under the Audio tab, manually selecting and output device instead
of leaving it at (System default). For instance, for my sound card I
selected HDA Intel - ALC663 Analog.

Limbo now runs fine with sound when run using the installed shortcut.

[Bug 1037820] Re: Broken auto-mute with Realtek ALC889 chipset after 12.04 upgrade

2012-08-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
gidantribal, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems ?

As well, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

2012-08-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Barry Matthias, thank you for attempting to test the mainline kernel.

Did this problem not occur in a Ubuntu release prior to Precise?

[Bug 904627] Re: Can't connect CDROM from gui

2012-08-19 Thread Mirto Silvio Busico
Found a very strange workaround.

In this example the VM name is VZ02-zentyal

To reproduce:
1) save a copy of /etc/libvirt/qemu/VZ02-zentyal.xml
2) edit this file with sudo virsh edit VZ02-zentyal
3) add in the device stanza this definition (taken from a VM created with
Kubuntu 11.04)

disk type='block' device='cdrom'
  driver name='qemu' type='raw'/
  target dev='hdc' bus='ide'/
  readonly/
  address type='drive' controller='0' bus='1' unit='0'/
/disk
controller type='ide' index='0'
  address type='pci' domain='0x' bus='0x00' slot='0x01'
function='0x1'/
/controller

4) reboot the VM -- ATTENTION now virt-manager crashes
5) reboot the host system
6) restore /etc/libvirt/qemu/VZ02-zentyal.xml from the saved copy
7) restart virt-manager -- Now virt-manager starts, the VM have an IDE bus and
an IDE CD (strangely the /etc/libvirt/qemu/VZ02-zentyal.xml file is untouched
and there is no cdrom stanza)

[Bug 914311] Re: vt.handoff 7 breaks psb_gfx driver

2012-08-19 Thread Lucazade
this fix is no more needed in Quantal.. it is necessary to install
xserver-xorg-video-modesetting and there are no more conflicts with
vt.handoff and plymouth.

Is it possible to include this package in the default installation?
