[Bug 1003296] Re: lightdm crashed with SIGSEGV in _pam_winbind_change_pwd() when password is expiring

2012-09-04 Thread Johan Ramm-Ericson
Actually, this is not the first time we see a similar issue. We ran into
it with 10.04 / Lucid + samba + gdm and this was before our domain
controllers were 2008 R2. I can't quite remeber what fixed it then (I'm
still digging through old emails) but I have a vague memory of it being
fixed by a samba / winbind patch.

This bug was fixed in the package iscsitarget - 1.4.20.2-10ubuntu1

---
iscsitarget (1.4.20.2-10ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian testing. Remaining changes:
- d/iscsitarget.init: If module unloading fails after stopping ietd,
report it but still exit zero since this doesn't justify causing
  package operations to fail.
- d/docs: Install README.initiators and README.mcs.
- d/p/fix-send-data-rsp.patch: Pick change @462 from upstream svn to
prevent a assertion failure in iscsi.c@492.
- d/p/linux-3.2-includes.patch: Add additional includes of linux/export.h
and linux/module.h, resolving dkms build failures with linux 3.2.
- d/p/fix-dkms.patch: Add missing patch entries to the dkms.conf file.
  * Fix DKMS compatibility with Linux 3.5 kernel (LP: #1045706):
- d/p/iscsitarget-svn{444,471}.patch: Cherry picked patches from
upstream VCS trunk, resolving dkms build failures with linux 3.5.
- d/p/fix-linux3.5.patch: Rework usage of ioc_task_link, resolving
dkms build failures with linux 3.5.
  * Ensure ietadm can detect inactive sessions (LP: #967984):
- d/p/iscsitarget-svn478.patch: Cherry picked patch from upstream
VCS trunk which ensures that events are propagated correctly to
  ietd.

[Bug 995079] Re: Internal server error when accessing nova/instances_and_volumes/ via horizon

2012-09-04 Thread Richard Hamnett
I can confirm that this is as Jaroslav Henner describes. When you make a
new project and try to view it, if there is a disk attached from the
original project you get the internal server error, until you detach the
disks then you can view instances and volumes in the new project OK.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Soren,

thanks very much. It's probably best to use a new ppa, as the backports
may be more generally useful, and would force unfortunate versioning
games.

Just using ppa:ubuntu-virt/ppa should probably be fine too.

The installation of maas-dhcp is optional. It is a recommends. However,
maas installs its recommends by default. maas-dhcp should ask whether we
want to enable the DHCP server. If so, it will do the configuration.

[Bug 1040033] Re: Fresh VM installs via preseeded oneiric isos sometimes fail with filesystem issues

2012-09-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Nothing in git log stands out ot me. Will be trying to bisect to figure
out where the bug was introduced. This becomes time-consuming as (a)
qemu is not alwyas-buildable, (b) bug is not 100% reproducible, and (c)
there is a large # commits to test. Hoping to have results by friday.

[Bug 1044367] Re: [FFe] Feature freeze exception for maas in Quantal

2012-09-04 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Scott,

Some of those MAAS bugs are related to the usage of cobbler and its
related DNS/DHCP. This new upstream release drops the usage of cobbler
and should be able to fix most of the bugs. This is what we are
targetting in Quantal, to be able to backport to Precise.

Cheers

[Bug 1035594] Re: Floating IP addresses leak if you delete an instance with one assigned

2012-09-04 Thread Adam Gandelman
Having trouble reproducing using the following steps with stable/essex
on Ubuntu 12.04 (via 2012.1.3+stable-20120827-4d2a4afe-0ubuntu1
package):

nova floating-ip-create
nova add-floating-ip b8e0295d-e515-4838-b91a-eb3c4b1beebe 192.168.25.237
nova delete b8e0295d-e515-4838-b91a-eb3c4b1beebe
nova floating-ip-delete 192.168.25.237

Watching the database (floating_ips), the floating ip to fixed_ip_id
mapping is appropriately removed on instance deletion, as is the
floating ip - project_id mapping on floating-ip-delete.

Curious to know which network manager you're using.

[Bug 1045986] Re: Ubuntu AppArmor policy is too lenient with shell scripts

2012-09-04 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

- Placeholder description. Dan Rosenberg is planning to blog about some
- AppArmor profile weaknesses in Ubuntu. This bug will track the work
- needed to fix it.
+ Dan Rosenberg has blogged about some AppArmor profile weaknesses in Ubuntu:

- This is a continuation of bug #851986, except for PATH and shell
- scripts. Unfortunately, until we have proper environment filtering
- support in AppArmor, we will have to employ more bandaids--
- specifically, either eliminating Ux/sanitized helper on shell scripts or
- adjusting those shell scripts to explicitly set their PATH. The good
- news is that environment filtering is on the AppArmor roadmap, and it
- something we will be targeting in the future releases. I filed bug
- #1045985 to more easily track the progress of that work.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-04 Thread Soren Hansen
Packages are ready for testing in the all new ubuntu-virt/kvm-network-
hang PPA.

It has a lower version than the test package Serge posted earlier, so
you'll need to first disable that other PPA and then enable this one and
upgrade.

This should do the trick:

# You can skip these first two commands if you didn't test Serge's packages
earlier
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge -p backports ubuntu-virt

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-virt/kvm-network-hang
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm

Of course, use at your own risk, etc.

[Bug 974450] Re: irqbalance classifies network interfaces with custom/renamed interfaces as class other

2012-09-04 Thread James M. Leddy
This is pretty important. We're finally offering biosdevname for people
that want to try it. It would be a bit of a black eye for us to not have
a working irqbalance. Irqbalance is important for enterprise use cases,
especially as we see 10gE become more mainstream, and the irqbalance we
have currently is horribly out of date.

Additionally, while we're past feature freeze now, I'd like to point out
that the bug has been open since 04-05, and we've had a debian package
since at least 06-25, which is over 2 months ago.

[Bug 1033934] Re: Attempting to change regions in the dashboard does not display correctly

2012-09-04 Thread Gabriel Hurley
This definitely does not affect current Horizon master. In general this
problem is the result of a template failing to extend from the modal
form base template, or not using the ModalFormView class. I'm not sure
what's going on in the downstream package to cause this behavior
currently.

[Bug 985489] Re: nova-compute stops processing compute.$HOSTNAME occasionally

2012-09-04 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
@Serge,

As mentioned in #1 the cluster is running Precise + Essex. Unfortunately
I cannot consistently reproduce the problem, however the problem has
been recurring approximately once per month.

As mentioned in #5 I think that perhaps nova-compute is attempting to
query libvirtd and libvirtd is not responding. Since the query doesn't
seem to time out nova-compute hangs waiting for a response which will
never come.

I can only query the system after the problem occurs and I only have
current state and log files to try infer the problem.

[Bug 985489] Re: nova-compute stops processing compute.$HOSTNAME occasionally

2012-09-04 Thread Rafi Khardalian
We ran into this issue as well and as you have correctly stated, it's a
result of libvirtd becoming unresponsive. Thus far we have not been
able to resolve the issue at its core but I can offer you a workaround.

It's a simple script which calls virsh help (which will block
indefinitely when the libvirtd process is unresponsive), wait 30 seconds
for a response and restart libvirtd after the timeout has elapsed. Run
it out of cron every 5 minutes or whatever you're comfortable doing.

https://github.com/metacloud/openstack-
tools/blob/master/libvirt/check_fix_libvirtd

By no means is this a fix but it'll mitigate the issue for you
operationally for now. In every situation we've had the script trigger,
nova-compute recovers as you would expect, without needing a restart.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 1045845] Re: 12.10 guest crash on login when using 12.04 qemu-kvm with cirrus driver

2012-09-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Please collect a full backtrace on this crash - see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for guidance.

** Description changed:

On a 12.10 amd64 host with the 12.04 LTS qemu-kvm package (due to bug
#1040033) using the cirrus (ie, the default qemu-kvm driver) with an up
to date 12.10 guest (machine='pc-1.0'), lightdm starts fine. If I
proceed to login, X crashes. If I upgrade qemu-kvm to 1.1~rc+dfsg-
1ubuntu10, I am able to login fine.

I don't know why the crash file wasn't uploaded. That said, this happens
every time and is easy to reproduce.

[Bug 1046115] [NEW] package lists are broken after first boot

2012-09-04 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

After initial boot, 'apt-get update' is required at this point.

This is demonstratable by:
 * boot a fresh instance with no user-data (ie, do not make it apt-get update)
 * run 'apt-get install lxc'

Also notice other things are busted
 * apt-cache show lxc

lxc is just an example other things seem busted to. I suspect a
regression in the archive renaming bits or in the build process.

[Bug 1046117] [NEW] btrfs via symlink not working

2012-09-04 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

# fresh quantal instance (2012-09-04)
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lxc btrfs-tools -y /dev/null

# put a btrfs fs on /mnt
sudo umount /mnt

echo making fs on $dev
sudo mkfs -t btrfs $dev -L ephemeral0 $dev
sudo mount /mnt

sudo mkdir /var/lib/lxc /var/cache/lxc # in case they dont already exist

sudo rsync -a /var/lib/lxc/ /mnt/var-lib-lxc
sudo rm -Rf /var/lib/lxc
sudo ln -sf /mnt/var-lib-lxc /var/lib/lxc

sudo rsync -a /var/cache/lxc/ /mnt/var-cache-lxc

sudo ln -sf /mnt/var-cache-lxc /var/cache/lxc

sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n source-precise-amd64 -- --release precise

sudo lxc-clone -o source-precise-amd64 -n precise-amd64
sudo lxc-start -n precise-amd64 -d
sleep 10
sudo lxc-stop -n precice-amd64
sleep 10

## Then ##

$ sudo lxc-destroy -n precise-amd64
rm: cannot remove `//var/lib/lxc/precise-amd64/rootfs': Directory not empty
rm: skipping `/var/lib/lxc/precise-amd64/rootfs', since it's on a different
device

I would have expected this to work.

$ sudo lxc-ls
precise-amd64 source-precise-amd64

I'm not sure what creates this scenario, but some more debug:

$ df /var/lib/lxc/precise-amd64

/dev/vdb20971520 727396 18217108 4% /mnt

[Bug 1044367] Re: [FFe] Feature freeze exception for maas in Quantal

2012-09-04 Thread Dave Walker
@Stefano. Yes.. Apologies for not adequately commenting.

This was accepted during the beta freeze, whilst not beta critical - it
has been accepted as an opportunity target include, rather than spin-
centric. It cannot impact non-maas testcases that i can see, so is
largely self contained to the package itself. It was shared with me the
testing that this package had received and I was satisfied.

Andres committed to driving away any potential regression... even if
that mean't a reverting the upload. Therefore, satisfied.

Thanks.

[Bug 965654] Re: /var/log/auth spam every 2 mins: sshd[*]: Connection closed by 127.0.0.1 [preauth]

2012-09-04 Thread Matthew O'Riordan
I have this same problem, however I know the cause of the problem.

I am using Monit which checks that SSHd is responding, so every time it
checks, a log entry is made.

Is there possibly some way to reduce the amount of logging by SSHd?

Re: [Bug 1044229] Re: DHCP config doesn't get written unless an inhuman combination of scripts is run

2012-09-04 Thread Julian Edwards
On Tuesday 04 September 2012 15:48:29 you wrote:
The installation of maas-dhcp is optional. It is a recommends. However,
maas installs its recommends by default. maas-dhcp should ask whether we
want to enable the DHCP server. If so, it will do the configuration.

If someone says no initially and then wants to configure it later, then do
you mean that they should run dpkg-reconfigure on maas-dhcp?

In fact they can do that or run the same provisioning command that the package
does I guess.

Thanks Jamie; do you have a pointer to the apport patch, or can attach
it here? I'd like to apply it to trunk as well (or make it suitable for
that).
