[Bug 1057926] [NEW] RubyGems should use ca-certificates for SSL verification

2012-09-27 Thread Tyler Hicks
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

In version 1.8.24, RubyGems added the ability to fetch gems over HTTPS
while properly verifying the server's SSL certificate. To make it work
out of the box, the upstream developers included a bundle of certificate
authority certs in the upstream release.

That bundle made it into Debian and Ubuntu's rubygems-1.8.24-1 package,
rather than the package being modified to use the ca-certificates.crt
bundle provided by the ca-certificates package. This makes it more
difficult to properly maintain the list of trusted CA certificates after
the release of Quantal.

[Bug 931168] Re: 14e4:4727 brcm80211 Wifi driver : cannot connect to channels>11

2012-09-27 Thread Mossroy
I tested a recompiled brcmsmac module with the patch mentioned above : not
better.
I also tried to add the patch from
https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-testing.git;a=commit;h=edc7651f3a4ffa7fca37d92401562694121512ad
 : not better.

I had a further look at the changelog. This commit looks more promising :
https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-testing.git;a=commit;h=898d3c3b2462cd439edb575f43b732425693aff0
It changes the way brcmsmac reads info from sprom, by using the bcma module.
This includes changing the way it reads the country code.
So it might be a good candidate for a backport test.

Unfortunately, it seems more difficult to backport this commit. The patch does
not fit well on the source code of kernel 3.2.0-31, and I suppose it would also
need to backport some code for bcma module and recompile it.
I did not manage to compile brcmsmac this way.

[Bug 979697] Re: Modeswitching modem not working with some USB 3.0 host controllers

2012-09-27 Thread Josua Dietze
O.K., so the usb_modeswitch package should install a file in
"/etc/modprobe.d" named "usb-storage.conf" with this content (or so):

--x--
# Increase the default delay to avoid conflict with usb_modeswitch

options usb-storage delay_use=3
--x--

Is there a way to check if there are other packages which set options
for this module?

Also, the next program release will contain a check/set of the module
attribute, so the mode switch would fail only once, even if the delay
wasn'n pre-set.

[Bug 503577] Re: g-p-m brightness not applied anymore after rebooting

2012-09-27 Thread mikewhatever
Confirmed on Precise with kernel 3.2-31-generic. Brightness keys don't
change screen brightness, even after adding the 'acpi_backlight' option.
I can still manage by writing 1-7 to
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness.

[Bug 1054282] Re: No obvious way to restrict shopping suggestions from displaying adult products

2012-09-27 Thread Bowmore
It's not an argument to state that this cannot be fixed as it can:

Alt 1: Remove concerned packages from the repos
Alt 2: Fix proper filtering before introducing the feature

Amazon et al should provide filtering options for this kind of stuff.
Any filterings like an adult filter should be set on admin level.
Such filters should be active by default.

[Bug 1056402] Re: Edge resistance stops working randomly

2012-09-27 Thread Øyvind Stegard
I have a dual monitor setup (1920x1080x2 horizontal layout, launcher on
left monitor primary), and edge resistance seems to have stopped working
completely. There is no resistance when moving mouse from the right
monitor over to the left and vice versa. It used to work fine, so
something broke it. Missing edge resistance makes it harder to hit the
top right indicator meny on the left monitor, and also to trigger
maximization on edge hit.

[Bug 1057886] Re: dpkg-source regression when a patch removes all files from a directory

2012-09-27 Thread Tyler Hicks
Passes test case found in the Debian bug. Also passes the simple tests
in test-dpkg.py from the qa-regression-testing project.

To be clear, I do not need this fix to proceed with the update mentioned
in this bug description. I've found a different/better way to do what I
needed to do but since I did hit this bug, I figured it would be good to
get the fix in to Ubuntu's dpkg before someone else hits it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1057905] [NEW] Gnome Session not selectable

2012-09-27 Thread Thomas Bechtold
Public bug reported:

I tried to select the Gnome Session (gnome-shell) but that's not
possible. I can not select the Gnome Entry on the list. But I can select
Ubuntu and Gnome Fallback. I also can select the "<" Button.

I can reproduce this:

1) Click on the Ubuntu-Icon to select the Session
2) Try to select the Gnome Session (that does not work)
3) Try to select the Gnome Fallback Session (that does work)
4) Try to select the Ubuntu Session (that does work)

[Bug 1057897] [NEW] Can continue though computer names already exist

2012-09-27 Thread John Kim
Public bug reported:

On the "Who am I?" screen, I could write extremely random names for my
computer, and still receive the error message in bold that the names are
taken! After filling out all the information, I could still continue.

In other words, the names aren't taken, but ubiquity is overreacting.
