[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs

2012-10-03 Thread Sean Channel
just an update: Tv was right about the use of virtualenv: sphinx has to
be *built* in the presence of sphinx-ditaa and asphyxiate, not taken
from an installed system package. The burden on virtualenv can still be
minimised if all other deps are installed [from platform repos
(ubuntu)], but not python-sphinx. It still makes for a noticeably
leaner and faster docs build.

I shall revisit how/where to shoehorn that in without disrupting things.

Subsequently, getting a docs package to build will be detached from the
main build/packages while making use of the same debian resources as
much as possible (likely with symlinks), so I'm still _not_ going to
force docs to be built and/or packaged along with the main build.

[Bug 1017847] Re: qemu segfaults when creating an armhf container on an amd64 host

2012-10-03 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
qemu-user-static was installed on the system when I have been able to
reproduce this error (installed on 2012-06-06 from apt log files)

I tried again this morning, and it works correctly. The main difference
is that qemu-user-static has been upgraded from 1.0.50-2012.03-0ubuntu3
to 1.2.0-2012.09-0ubuntu1 on 2012-09-23 (~1 week after my last test) So
probably *something* has been fixed in this new upstream version.

In any case, I tried without qemu-user-static installed and I get the error
chroot: failed to run command `useradd': Exec format error
which is expected since the emulator is not installed.

I don't think it make sense to run lxc for an architecture without the
right emulator installed but it is another bug than the one I initially
reported and it can be closed as 'fix released'

[Bug 1058089] [NEW] Intel 5100 AGN (iwlwifi) hangs frequently -- intermittent operation

2012-10-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When connecting to a home network, the wireless connection is
established and does not drop, but package throughput works
intermittently. When it is working, it works perfectly: the throughput
is fast and reliable. It seems that traffic helps it. The issue is most
notable on http requests. Flood pinging the router (or connecting to it)
drops no packets during these breaks, but anything outside is
unreachable. At the same time other computers experience no problems.
These paucities in operation last from minutes to tens of minutes.
Reconnecting to the wireless or rmmod/modprobing the module does not
help.

The usual proposed remedies (passing 11n_disable=1 and/or swcrypto=1)
make no obvious difference.

The most curious observations is that, during these intermittent breaks,
/established/ traffic comes through. For example, an active gtalk
session will remain active and fully responsive while all other traffic
is interrupted.

The stock iwlwifi for 12.04 (3.2.0) does not work either. Using the most
recent firmware. The wireless adapter worked perfectly with the 2.6
kernel, and it still works with Mint 11. Other devices have no issue
with the AP.

2012-10-03 Thread Andrej Prša
I finally managed to get the problem fixed. The issue is not with the
iwlwifi modulce, it is with ubuntu's new dns resolver. I edited

refiling this bug as the dnsmasq bug.

[Bug 1060550] Re: lxc-ls with ephemeral containers reports too many containers

2012-10-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

Is this on quantal, precise, or something else?

lxc-ls reports two rows of results - the first containing all
containers, the second the active ones. It looks as though your output
got squashed into one column containing all results. What happens when
you do lxc-ls | tail -1 ?

lxc-list is generally a nicer looking (but more tedious to script
around) interface for viewing lists of containers. The actual format of
lxc-ls output will be discussed at the upcoming UDS, and probably
changed.

[Blueprint servercloud-q-lxc] Lxc work for Q

2012-10-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Blueprint changed by Serge Hallyn:

Whiteboard changed:
  User Stories:

[nested lxc - cgroup premount and apparmor policy]

Sallie would like to run juju with lxc on her laptop, but is afraid it
may meddle with her laptop's networking setup. So she runs juju inside
  an lxc container.

  [lxc-attach]

Joe finds one of his containers is not responding to the ssh port, and
its consoles are not working. He suspects a problem with its devpts. He
uses lxc-attach to run a diagnostics tool inside the container.

  [user namespace - unprivileged startup]

Annie wants to test a root fs tarball sitting on her usb stick. She'd
like to start at least a chroot or a whole container in it. But she
doesn't have privileges on this machine. She creates a container with
private user namespace and boots the rootfs there.

  [seccomp]

Zoe wants to run a flash movie inside a container, but is afraid there
may be a kernel system call exploit. She uses seccomp to filter out
  the most dangerous system calls.

[hooks, /var/lib/c1/root, and #includes, openvz migration]

Munro supports a large number of containers. Most of the container
configuration is shared from a common #included file. When he needs
to make a change to all containers, he can change the common included
configuration file, have a loop mount new filesystems under each
container's root, and add lines to the pre-start hook which the common
  configuration file defines.

  [encrypted root]

Rupert wants to run an application on an instance in the cloud,
but would like for the next cloud user to re-use his instance's
disk to not be able to read the application data. He therefore
uses an encrypted root for the container.

  [python api]

Yngwie would like to write a script to perform a particular update
in each container. He can use the python api to find all containers,
then attach to running or execute in non-running containers to
  perform the update.

  Assumptions:

  seccomp gets upstream
  user namespaces get upstream
  setns patches get upstream

  Release Notes:

- unprivileged startup
- secure nested containers
- openvz migration
+ unprivileged startup (POSTPONED)
+ secure nested containers (POSTPONED)
+ Migration of containers fromopenvz to lxc has been eased with the addition of
hooks at various point in a container's lifetime.
+ Customization of container security profiles has been eased by a
reorganization of the apparmor profiles.
+ Nesting of containers has been made easier with custom apparmor profiles.

  WI notes:

  1. seccomp work in lxc is blocked until seccomp is packaged.
  2. pivot_root is not possible into a MS_SHARED directory, making our original
goal of accessing the container mounts tree through /var/lib/lxc/container/root
not possible.
  3. user namespace patch for lxc is up at
lp:~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/lxc/lxc-user-ns. However, it cannot work
without some more kernel work, and we cannot be sure it is finalized until that
work is done. So marking it blocked. for now, though it should be mostly
completed.
  4. apport: Catching the crashes in the container and having the in-container
apport triggered would require /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to be namespaced,
it's currently blocked by apparmor and unlikely to be namespaced. Apport on the
host is instead triggered, except that it fails as it's unable to locate the
PID it's receiving (likely because it's receiving the pid from the container's
pidns).
  5. removed userns items as that is tracked in its own blueprint.

[Bug 978963] Re: add release note that OpenStack should be used on a protected network

2012-10-03 Thread Adrien Cunin
Why do we keep horizon and keystone tasks?

By the way, I think it's possible to mitigate this issue in Keystone
using Apache. See http://adam.younglogic.com/2012/04/keystone-httpd/ to
set it up and be able to use https:// for Keystone.

[Bug 992075] Re: Commissioning status persists with cloud-init 0.6.3-0ubuntu1

2012-10-03 Thread mxdog
I am having this same issue. I set up a box as a maas server and could
not get any of the vm nodes on Virtual box to finish commissoning so i
set up another box on a junker comp and started from scratch. Out of
three tests on VB they all subscribed and after acceptance finished the
enrollment (ready). One machine i ran from an XCP box stopped giving the
init killed error exactly as above with one exception. after the kill
message i would also get an ISOFS type unknown which told me that it
could not read or mount the iso image. so i fired up the original maas
server and the test machine took right off and finished the process
after restarting .

Could these errors be that after the ram disk is loaded that the install
media isnt getting mounted because it is unreadable for whatever reason
so the whole process just times out ? at least in my case that seemed to
be the problem with the one node.

One other point on the XCP box even when i tried to load a system with
the physical dvd when ubuntu got to the discover and mount dvd
portion of the install I got the same error --installation failed could
not mount cd . which makes me wonder if there could be a problem with
the installer image when using hypervisors. the xcp box runs 4 vm's
all day long and has never had a problem installing from cd or dvd even
when installing from an iso SR . The ubuntu server/maas wouldnt install
at all SR or DVD or automatically from the 2nd maas server

[Bug 1061064] [NEW] ubuntu-cloud.archive: swift3 is no longer in swift-proxy

2012-10-03 Thread Ryan Finnie
Public bug reported:

Swift 1.7.0 has dropped support for swift3, and there is no packaged
replacement in cloud archive. Likely many people upgrading from precise
to cloud archive will be relying on S3 emulation, so this could be a
concern.

The (small c) canonical egg appears to be
https://github.com/fujita/swift3 -- could we either:

1) Integrate it into the swift-proxy package, or more likely:

2) Package swift3 and Recommend: it from swift-proxy.

Thanks!

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-10-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Jonathan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu-kvm into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/1.0+noroms-
0ubuntu14.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1061154] [NEW] pgsql.cfg includes a check_pgsql_4 command, but check_pgsql does not actually take the -4 argument

2012-10-03 Thread Ben Coleman
Public bug reported:

The /etc/nagios-plugins/config/pgsql.cfg configuration file includes a
check_pgsql_4 command, which should force the connection to use IPv4.
However, the program called, /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_pgsql, does
not actually accept the -4 parameter. I'd rather see this fixed by
adding the -4 parameter to check_pgsql than by deleting the command from
pgsql.cfg, as this is actully a useful function.

[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs

2012-10-03 Thread Tv
Comment #6 is incorrect, you don't need to install Sphinx in the
virtualenv, you just need to have the virtualenv active (so the
extensions can be found).

Here's one way to achieve that:

PYTHONPATH=`pwd`/../src/pybind ./virtualenv/bin/python /usr/bin/sphinx-
build -a -b dirhtml -d doctrees ../doc output/html

[Bug 1061166] [NEW] ec2 instance IDs are broken after folsom upgrade

2012-10-03 Thread Adam Gandelman
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a running cluster from Essex to Folsom
(2012.2-0ubuntu2~cloud0), the EC2 API can no longer find instances by
EC2 ID, ie:

ubuntu@ip-10-252-38-15:~$ euca-describe-instances

ubuntu@ip-10-252-38-15:~$ euca-get-console-output i-0004
InstanceNotFound: Instance i-0004 could not be found.

A quick test of other calls shows that this affects many actions:

euca-get-console-output
euca-terminate-instance
euca-attach-volumes
euca-associate-address

Should note that describing individual instances still works (ie, euca-
describe-instances i-0004) still works as expected. A quick glance
at the code shows this call converts the EC2 instance ID to UUID with
ec2utils.ec2_inst_id_to_uuid() rather than ec2utils.ec2_id_to_id() like
the other calls.

This seems to not affect clusters that have been initially installed
with Folsom. I suspect something is wrong in the data migration from
Essex to Folsom that causes the ec2_id_to_id() mapping to be bogus.

  [Impact]
Fixes issues using whois with .hr/.sx/.pe TLDs. In addition updates query
format for IPs when accessing ARIN.

  [Development Fix]
These issues were fixed in 5.0.14 of whois.

  [Stable Fix]
Since most of the fixes are covered in updating from 5.0.11 to 5.0.14, a
backport of these version provides all fixes.

  [Test Case]
  1) whois google.hr (works on precise, not on oneiric)
  2) whois registry.sx google.com.pe
  3) whois 74.125.113.102
if we use this command in precise we see that whois adds n + to the
query, while
in oneiric it doesn't add that.

  [Regression Potential]
Most of the changes are fairly minimal, although any changes to mkpasswd
should be investigated.

  Problem Description:
whois in oneiric can't query .hr/.sx/.pe TLDs. In addition the query format
for ARIN is different than in precise.

  Version affected:
  Current Oneiric Version: 5.0.11ubuntu2

[Bug 1061244] [NEW] Fix net rpc share allowedusers to work with 2008r2

2012-10-03 Thread Olly Betts
Public bug reported:

The RAP NetShareEnum command was removed in Windows 2008r2, so net rpc
share allowedusers no longer works.

Upstream has accepted (and is in the process of applying) a patch to use
the equivalent RPC call instead:

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8966

I've been running this in production with various versions of samba
since at least July 2011, and it seems to work well with both 2008r2 and
older versions of Windows. It would be good if other users could
benefit from the fix.

I've attached a debdiff of the patched precise package I'm using.

[Bug 1061277] Re: ssh ignores ssh_config

2012-10-03 Thread Seth Arnold
There are two config files, /etc/ssh/ssh_config and
/etc/ssh/sshd_config, that live in this directory. ssh_config does not
respect the AllowUsers configuration option (see ssh_config(5));
sshd_config _does_ respect the AllowUsers configuration option.

Please re-check which file you have modified.

Thanks

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-10-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Jonathan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu-kvm into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/1.0+noroms-
0ubuntu14.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1061166] Re: ec2 instance IDs are broken after folsom upgrade

2012-10-03 Thread Adam Gandelman
After taking another look at this, EC2 instance IDs appear to change
during an upgrade.

Did an upgrade with two running instances, i-0003 and i-0004.
After upgrade, they show change to i-0003 and i-0004,
respecively. Any EC2 action (terminate, get-console-output, etc) on
these new IDs fail with InstanceNotFound.

AFAICS:

In essex, these IDs appear mapped to IDs and UUIDs in the instances
table:

mysql select id, uuid from instances where id=3 or id=4;
++--+
| id | uuid |
++--+
| 3 | 7ca30bdc-46f3-4a2d-a0fb-f7657d60e8a8 |
| 4 | bf7ecf97-0814-4b5e-b5f1-4a7cecd8a43f |
++--+
2 rows in set (0.00 sec)

In Folsom, much has been converted to use UUIDs instead. the EC2
describe instances call gets a list of instances, and queries the
instance_id_mappings for the corresponding instance ID (which will later
get converted to an ec2 ID). However, after upgrade this table has
duplicate entries for these instances, causing later queries on these
instances to yield a new, incorrect ID.

mysql select * from instance_id_mappings where
uuid='bf7ecf97-0814-4b5e-b5f1-4a7cecd8a43f' or
uuid='7ca30bdc-46f3-4a2d-a0fb-f7657d60e8a8';
+-+++-++--+
| created_at | updated_at | deleted_at | deleted | id | uuid
  |
+-+++-++--+
| NULL| NULL | NULL |NULL | 3 |
7ca30bdc-46f3-4a2d-a0fb-f7657d60e8a8 |
| NULL| NULL | NULL |NULL | 4 |
bf7ecf97-0814-4b5e-b5f1-4a7cecd8a43f |
| 2012-10-04 01:50:23 | NULL | NULL | 0 | 5 |
7ca30bdc-46f3-4a2d-a0fb-f7657d60e8a8 |
| 2012-10-04 01:50:23 | NULL | NULL | 0 | 6 |
bf7ecf97-0814-4b5e-b5f1-4a7cecd8a43f |
+-+++-++--+

This can be worked around by change the EC2 layer to convert all
incoming IDs to UUIDs, but the issue of instance IDs changing during a
migration to Folsom is critical and needs to be resolved as an upgrade
issue.

[Bug 1059186] Re: The first entry of the menu is not correct

2012-10-03 Thread Charles Kerr
Hm, I'm not sure what the issue is here. indicator-loader3 is handling
libsyncindicator.so correctly, and it uses
indicator_object_new_from_file() too.

Just for comparison's sake, what happens when you load up an indicator
with indicator-loader3 on your system?

[Bug 957843] Re: files in eCryptFS Private directory get corrupted

2012-10-03 Thread Tyler Hicks
This has been tracked in various other bugs and is fixed in recent
kernels. Sorry for the confusion of this bug not being marked as a dupe
of one of the others. There were a few specific bugs that culminated
into the broader problem reported in this bug.

The way eCryptfs handled full disk situations and opening lower files
that didn't contain the proper eCryptfs metadata has changed over the
course of time but here are the relevant patches that have went upstream
to address the issues mentioned in this bug report:

821f749 eCryptfs: Revert to a writethrough cache model
e3ccaa9 eCryptfs: Initialize empty lower files when opening them
8bc2d3c eCryptfs: Unlink lower inode when ecryptfs_create() fails

For Ubuntu users, these fixes have all been picked up in the 12.04 LTS
kernels.
