[Bug 1015207] Re: juju setup fails, ERROR Invalid SSH key - 12.04 LTS
I think Ondrej is on to something I had problems earlier attaching nodes to maas by trying to read between the lines on the instructions instead of doing literal. One problem on my setup of nodes is i didnt set pxe as first boot order instead just left the default. So it would pxe boot the initial install but not commission gracefully. Further on at the juju step i too manually powered the unit on as well as still not using pxe as first boot order. I think maybe the bug is on documentation not telling us what we shouldnt be doing correcting us from thinking we know what we are doing. It just seems like its a id10t error on my part by not doing a step right or more likely over complicating something. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to juju in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015207 Title: juju setup fails, ERROR Invalid SSH key - 12.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/juju/+bug/1015207/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1062277] [NEW] 092_add_instance_system_metadata migration fails when upgrading
Public bug reported: The upgrade from Precise+Essex to Precise+Folsom using the ubuntu-cloud archive fails while running the 092_add_instance_system_metadata migration. The migration fails while creating the `instance_system_metadata` table (see below). The '1005' MySQL error indicates that a foreign key is failing to apply. After changing the table definition in the table to include `mysql_charset='utf8'` the migration succeeds (see attached bug). This is a similar bug that the `dns_domains` table had previously. [Bug 1062314] [NEW] do_refresh_security_group_rules in nova.virt.firewall is very slow
Public bug reported: This is a bug against stable essex. I have made no attempt to determine if this is still a problem in Folsom at this stage. During a sprint this week we took a nova region which was previously relatively idle and started turning up large numbers of instances using juju. We started to experience very slow instance starts, which I dug into. I should note that juju seems to trigger this behaviour by refreshing security groups when ports are exposed, but other openstack users will probably experience problems if they are trying to do non- trivial things with security groups. It appears that do_refresh_security_group_rules can sometimes take a very long time to run, and it holds the iptables lock while doing this. This is a problem because launching a new instance needs to take the iptables lock, and can end up being blocked. An example slow instance start (nova logs editted for clarity): (logs from scheduler node) 2012-10-05 08:06:28 run_instance 2012-10-05 08:06:29 cast to compute node (logs from compute node) 2012-10-05 08:07:21 Starting instance... 2012-10-05 08:07:34 Starting toXML method 2012-10-05 08:07:43 Finished toXML method 2012-10-05 08:07:43 Called setup_basic_filtering in nwfilter 2012-10-05 08:07:43 Ensuring static filters 2012-10-05 08:08:48 Attempting to grab semaphore iptables for method _do_refresh_provider_fw_rules... 2012-10-05 08:24:00 Got semaphore iptables for method _do_refresh_provider_fw_rules... 2012-10-05 08:24:01 Creating image 2012-10-05 08:24:06 Instance is running 2012-10-05 08:25:28 Checking state 2012-10-05 08:25:30 Instance spawned successfully. [Bug 1061977] Re: Machine fails to commission when console=ttyS0 is present on kernel opts
It seems that what we need to do is make this configurable (bug 1044503) and then possibly default to no 'console=' parameters. ** Description changed: - http://paste.ubuntu.com/1261109/ shows the /var/lib/cloud/instance/userdata.txt - http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1261098/ shows /var/log/cloud-init.log - http://paste.ubuntu.com/1261129/ shows the output when running cloud-init --debug modules --mode=final manually. In this case it finishes and successfully commissions. + Maas is pxe booting systems. The first time a system is booted, maas knows nothing about it, so we need some default kernel parameters. The primary target for these systems is datacenter, where there is at least some likelyhood that /dev/ttyS0 is logged (or could be logged). On boot of the system, we want to see log messages. So, we were passing to the kernel cmdline: +console=tty1 console=ttyS0 + The hope was that kernel messages would go both places, and /dev/console (which is opened by upstart) would go to ttyS0 if it was present and /dev/tty1 otherwise. It seems that the kernel is not at all smart about how it does this, though. On a system without a serial device, /dev/console gets hooked up, but writes to it fail with Input/output error. + Cloud-init uses 'console output' in upstart as it wants data to be viewable on the console. This causes an error, though, as writes to /dev/console fail in this case. + + Additional information: + * upstart closes all file descriptors (stdin/stdout/stderr) and re-opens them, explicitly setting /dev/console as its stdin, stdout, stderr. So, even an attempt to redirect /sbin/init output elsewhere (such as to /dev/tty0 if /dev/ttyS0 did not exist) from the initramfs would be unsuccessful. + * kexec'ing with different parameters from inside the initramfs (removing the bad console=) really isn't an option, as the kernel/initrmafs is pxebooted, and we dont even have simple access to those. + + Relative links: + * kernel serial console doc: http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/serial-console.txt + * thread about re-assigning /dev/console: http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org/msg246433.html + + Other info from system: + http://paste.ubuntu.com/1261109/ shows the /var/lib/cloud/instance/userdata.txt + http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1261098/ shows /var/log/cloud-init.log + http://paste.ubuntu.com/1261129/ shows the output when running cloud-init --debug modules --mode=final manually. [Bug 1061964] [NEW] Config drive ensure local-hostname
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Openstack writes out a metadata file with 'hostname' but most of cloud- init does not use this as the primary 'hostname' but instead uses 'local-hostname' (main effect being that the instance doesn't get named right when the set/update hostname modules are ran). [Bug 1062314] Re: do_refresh_security_group_rules in nova.virt.firewall is very slow
I think the issue here is that nova.virt.firewall.py IptablesFirewallDriver.instance_rules() is calling get_instance_nw_info() which is causing rpcs to be fired off _while_still_holding_the_iptables_lock. [Bug 1062474] [NEW] Migrations do not populate volume_id_mappings and instance_id_mappings completely
Public bug reported: 089_add_volume_id_mappings.py 107_add_instance_id_mappings.py These two migrations create tables that easily map volume and instance IDs to UUIDs. Each have 6 columns: id, uuid, created_at, updated_at, deleted_at, deleted. Only the 'id' and 'uuid' column get populated with data copied from the volumes or instances table in the migration that creates them. From what I can tell, none of these fields are currently being used by code anywhere in Folsom, but this has already introduced a nasty Bug #1061166. If the plan is to be able to query this info from this table in Grizzly, they should be fully populated with data for existing instances. If there is no plan to make use of them, they should be dropped. Additionally, there should probably be some uniqueness constraints on those tables to ensure these mappings stay consistent if similar bugs exist elsewhere in the code base. ** Affects: nova Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: nova (Ubuntu) = nova -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1062474 Title: Migrations do not populate volume_id_mappings and instance_id_mappings completely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1062474/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1060404] Re: update-grub runs and fails in containers
** Description changed: - If grub is installed in a container (as happens, for instance, with the - ubuntu-cloud template) then an update of grub or linux-image will cause - update-grub to be run. It tries, finds it can't access the root device, - fails, and causes the update to fail. + == + SRU justification for lxc part: + 1. Impact: update-grub fails, causing apt-get updates to fail if there is a new kernel. + 2. Development fix: modify ubuntu templates to mount devtmpfs before starting container + 3. Stable fix: same as development fix. + 4. Test case: + sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n q1 + sudo lxc-start q1 + # inside the container, run sudo update-grub + 5. Regression potential: This adds one more mount per container (by default, removable), taking up more memory. + == + If grub is installed in a container (as happens, for instance, with the ubuntu-cloud template) then an update of grub or linux-image will cause update-grub to be run. It tries, finds it can't access the root device, fails, and causes the update to fail. It would be better for update-grub to detect that it is in a container and simply exit 0, so that the apt-get can succeed. [Bug 787859] Re: Xorg memory usage/leak
Interestingly I also have this problem, but with an nVidia card (NVIDIA Coporation GT215 Quadro FX 880M rev a2) in my Thinkpad, using the nouveau driver! I'm using kubuntu 12.04, upgraded step by step from Lucid, and this problem happens since going to 12.04. First I had the nvidia driver installed, and ran into the memory leak and 100% CPU for xorg. After fiddling around with it more without fix, I removed (apt-get purge) the nvidia driver. I looked through the alternatives and could not find any nvidia-related stuff anymore. Yet, even with nouveau this happened. Then I re-installed all things nouveau and mesa, but still this problem happens. I also installed the nvidia- firmware package (which was missing before), no help. At the beginning Xorg takes about 20M of memory, slowly growing. It uses almost no CPU at this time (about 4% of a core occasionally). When it reaches about 70M it suddenly jumps to 100% CPU (one full core). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787859 Title: Xorg memory usage/leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/787859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_render() from brw

This patch is needed for smooth transition from + plymouth to X. There _could_ be some issues with it (meaning additional + patches needed from upstream), but it seems to be working just fine for + me. + + --- + This bug is about problems after resume, with Intel video hardware and i965_dri.so. If you're having these symptoms with other hardware, Nvidia or ATI/Radeon, this isn't the place for reports or questions. [Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.] This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it. After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to start over again to get it all functioning properly. [Bug 1060931] Re: b43 broadcom firmware not packaged
I'm aware of the problem; it's not specific to elementary OS, Ubuntu has it too. Marking upstream affected. The firmware can be installed in a similar manner to Flash Player (from the technical point of view). I recall fixing up the package to work from behind proxy servers. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx I hear Ubuntu have done significant work on this in Quantal cycle, so it might be fixed. ** Summary changed: - b43 broadcom firmware not packaged + No user-facing way to install b43 broadcom firmware ** Also affects: jockey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1060931 Title: No user-facing way to install b43 broadcom firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1060931/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 103794] Re: Cannot have overlapping partitions
This has been fixed from gparted's perspective, as it now correctly shows the parted error messages rather than pretending that the disk is empty. Fixing parted to allow you to ignore the error and proceed with trying to repair it is a feature that still has not been implemented upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103794 Title: Cannot have overlapping partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parted/+bug/103794/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
