[Bug 903302] Re: Dialog windows are not turning modal anyway

2012-10-24 Thread Zicu Radu
Confirm this bug:

When I create a custom dialog in GTK (both, GTK2 or GTK3) and set it to
be modal, all input to other windows of my application is ignored. This
works nearly always, but it fails under certain conditions.

When I add a ScrolledWindow containing a TreeView to my dialog, it still
works as supposed. But if I fill the TreeView with entries until the
ScrolledWindow starts to display its scroll bars --- the modality is
suddenly lost and I can click on my other windows!

[Bug 1067619] Re: onboard sound not available - only hdmi through soundcard available

#9 was informative, but not quite sure how it relates to the context of
this report.

I'm not sure where in the link there was something for me to apply to
this filed bug.

== ref: #8 ==

I updated the following lines to alsa-base config and rebooted:

options snd-intel8x0 index=0
options snd-hda-intel index=1 model=auto

After reboot, I ran alsamixer:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
==

What should I be trying or supplying in this ticket in order to facilitate the
information required for the group, other than what has already been
supplied, in order to categorise and assess this bug ?

[Bug 1070705] Re: Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change position, doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart

2012-10-24 Thread Stéphane Guillou
** Tags added: regression-release

** Summary changed:

- Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change position,
doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart
+ [Regression] Launcher - Locking an executable to the launcher makes it change
position, doesn't launch the app and is lost at restart

** Description changed:

  WHAT I DID:

I downloaded Zotero standalone from this page:
http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0#zotero_standalone
After opening the app via its executable, I locked it to the launcher by
right-clicking on its icon and selecting "lock to launcher".

  WHAT HAPPENED:
The icon was effectively locked to the launcher but jumped several positions
upwards (random number).
After closing the app, it wasn't possible to open it again from the launcher
(icon pulses but nothing happens).
Opening the app again from the original file would add a second identical
icon to the launcher.
After restarting the computer, the icon was lost.

  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:
The icon should be locked to the launcher at its actual position; it should
be able to use it to open the app again; and it should stay locked to it even
when the computer restarts.
+
+ I marked this as a regression as this wasn't a problem at all in 12.04:
+ the icon would stay at its place, was able to launch the app, and was
+ still in the launcher at restart.

[Bug 819775] Re: Broadcasting input across multiple terminator windows repeats keypresses many times

2012-10-24 Thread Samir Ibradžić
Not fixed! The problem is reproducable ONLY if one is running IBUS.

samir@nigdje:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

samir@nigdje:~$ apt-cache policy terminator
terminator:
  Installed: 0.96-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.96-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.96-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Needles to say,

killall ibus-daemon

makes it disappear...

Btw, IBUS in Ubuntu is in a crappy state, too old versions are being
shipped with each release... Do are you missing devs who actually use it
and test it?

If i have any time left, I'll try to dive into terminator code to find
the culprit...

[Bug 1067163] Re: Scan "all" not working for Canon Pixma MP280 series

2012-10-24 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
The fact that you can reproduce this with the scanimage frontend means
that the bug is not in gscan2pdf, but with the Canon backend.

Which package is providing the Canon backend?

The possibilities are libsane directly, or a package provided by Canon.
Either way, the following command from the CLI should demonstrate the
problem to the maintainer:

scanimage --device-name='pixma:04A91746_EABCEA' --mode='Color'
--source='Flatbed' -y 297 -l 0 --resolution='150' -x 210 -t 0 --batch

Ok, some more info now. With the message attached to this bug report, if

[Bug 1058641] Re: "No devices detected" radeon regression

2012-10-24 Thread John Makosky
@ojordan This looks like the same problem I see with 12.10 on an iMac
G5/2.0 20-Inch (ALS) (Identifiers: Ambient Light Sensor - M9845LL/A -
PowerMac8,2 - A1076 - 2056) with a Radeon 9600.

I am not sure if it's relevant, but using
"video=radeonfb:1680x1050-32@60" does apparently increase the color
depth, but glxinfo reports only software rasterization, and unity/compiz
fails.

[Bug 1068921]

I set a breakpoint in nsMsgDBFolder::EndNewOfflineMessage() to trigger

Just a stupid question. Reading the changelog of 5.4.6-2 in Debian [1],
it seems a lot of bugs were fixed in that version that were fixed in
5.4.4-6 of php5 in unstable. Have you verified that we don't ALSO really
want the other merges in 5.4.6-2?

[Bug 1071138] Re: Unable to connect to OpenVPN endpoint

2012-10-24 Thread tbys
** Description changed:

  Hello,

I am facing some problems getting OpenVPN working through NetworkManager
on Ubuntu 12.10. I am able to connect when using the 'regular' OpenVPN
client and a config file, but not through NM with a similar config. From
my investigations so far, it seems that the
/sys/devices/virtual/net/tap0 device doesn't get created, but I am
unable to work out why that is happening. I tried putting apparmor into
complain mode to make sure it wasn't a problem with that. I pasted what
I believe is the relevant part of syslog below (edited out identifiable
information). Can anyone help me with some pointers as to how to
  troubleshoot this?

[Bug 1052514] Re: Cannot send mail with large message body

2012-10-24 Thread BartS
The bug description says "The bug is fixed in a newer version of
evolution-mapi". This is incorrect.

A link is given (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682449 ,
where the claim that the issue is fixed is made, only to be refuted
further down in the comments if you keep reading).

As such, this bug is not fixed, there does not currently appear to be a
work around, and the evolution team appear to be waving their hands and
saying It's not us, because they use OpenChange to connect to exchange
and the bug is apparently in OpenChange.

For me, at least, given that all my business emails have a signature
that includes the corporate logo, it is no longer possible for me to
send email at all (and frankly the vast majority of email these days is
bigger than 1010 bytes or whatever the practical send limit is).

Does anyone have a pragmatic solution that will get Evolution 3.6
working?

[Bug 1069031] Re: intel gma3600: X unable to start

2012-10-24 Thread nordicnurse
A random observations: when 12.10 is run from a live-usb with ubiquity-
only option, gmas3600_gfx gets loaded and installer launches (and
completes) with proper resolution. However, triyng to load complete DE
results in failure. Lightdm, gdm, xdm all die, but with slightly
differing results. Lightdm freezes and gdm/xdm end to terminal with a
login prompt.

Yes I can confirm this bug with my Dell Inspiron (Intel graphics card) laptop.
The latest 3.2 kernel (3.2.0-33.52 and all other 3.2 kernels) work fine.
But, after updating to 3.5.0 I cannot boot with it.
Selecting previous kernel, the booting process is OK.

[Bug 1071012] Re: Hard Freeze (Kernel Panic) During Heavy Disk Activity

2012-10-24 Thread tdeering
** Description changed:

During heavy disk write activity (eg. swapping, writing large files to
disk), the system freezes hard (becomes 100% unresponsive) with the CPU
fan spun up high, and stays that way until a hard reset.

I've noticed this problem under two separate installs of 12.04 64-bit,
on two different SSDs. There seems to be some race condition exposed by
the pure speed of the writes?

[Bug 31709] Re: Brasero, GNOME's burn:/// and K3b slow dvd burn speed

2012-10-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Timothy Miller, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Dapper desktop reached EOL on July 14, 2009.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
mainline kernels archive directory daily folder, but the one all the way at the
bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel,
please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.7-rc1-quantal

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
The program 'singularity-do-not-run-directly' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 30 error_code 11 request_code 154 minor_code 3)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

[Bug 409067] Re: package hdparm 9.15-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurueck

2012-10-24 Thread Steve Langasek
This was fixed years ago:

hdparm (9.15-1ubuntu3) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/hdparm.postinst: The transitional code to create
/etc/udev/rules.d/z60_hdparm.rules also got wrongly executed on new
installs, leaving a broken symlink behind. However, we do not need this in
the first place, so just throw away the code completely.
  * debian/hdparm.preinst: Remove broken symlink on upgrade.

2012-10-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Jeffrey,

This bug is now quite old. Did you ever see the problem again with

[Bug 286846] Re: harddrive spins down when man page says setting does not permit it

2012-10-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Thsi seems to be an issue with your drive not implementing APM according
to the standard. Nothing that can be done in the hdparm package to fix
this.

The retracer was not able to provide a usable backtrace of this (quite
old) bug. Are you still seeing crashes of hdparm in current releases of

[Bug 199094] Re: hdparm.conf settings (other than apm) are lost on suspend/resume?

2012-10-24 Thread Steve Langasek
So I'm not sure why people are still seeing a bug here. The /usr/lib
/pm-utils/sleep.d/95hdparm-apm script does this:

thaw|resume)
resume_hdparm_apm
# only set the -S option on resuming, not necessary for power.d
resume_hdparm_spindown
;;

So it explicitly sets the -B and -S options on resume, which are the
exact options that users are reporting problems with. I think someone
who's seeing this problem needs to diagnose what's going wrong with that
script. Does it work if you run it by hand?

[Bug 795765] Re: CDs won't resume playing after being paused

2012-10-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: rhythmbox
+ [IMPACT]
+
+ * Rhythmbox won't resume playing an audio CD if you pause it.
+
+ [TESTCASE]
+
+ * Insert an audio CD (not an mp3 CD but a traditional one you'd buy from the
music store)
+ * Test if play and pause work.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * None, audio CD playback is already very badly broken.
+
+
+ [ Original Bug Report ]

Start a music track playing in a usual way, such as highlighting a track
and pressing the play/pause button or double LMB clicking on a track.
The play/pause button icon changes to a pause icon.

If the play/pause button is pressed the button changes to a play button
but has no effect on the track playing. The title bar of Rhythmbox then
has "(Paused") displayed after the artist and track details.

If the play/pause button is pressed again it "goes in and comes out" but
stays as a play button and the track carries on playing. A "pause" icon
is displayed in the left "speaker icon" column in the track list next to
the track that has been paused. The only way to stop the track playing
  is to "Quit" Rhythmbox.

The next and previous track buttons do work correctly on a playing
track, if the pause/play button is not pressed first. Also the slider
that indicates how the progress of track can be moved left or right and
everything behaves as expected. It is just that there is no way to
  pause/stop a playing track.

The same behaviour happens if either the buttons on the top menu bar are
used, or the laptop "hot key" buttons.

If a second track is double LMB clicked to start (after a previous track
has tried to be paused) the second track starts to play with the first
one still playing as well. The play/pause button turns back to a pause
button again. If the play/pause button is pressed the same behaviour is
observed it turns to a play button, the menu bar displays "(Paused)" and
the track carries on playing. This process can be repeated so that you
have multiple tracks all playing and non being able to be paused/stop.
Also using the previous/next track buttons, after one has tried to pause
a track, causes a new track to start playing. A quit is the only control
you seem to have to stop music playing.

I have also started rhythmbox from a terminal in debug mode using:
  rhythmbox -d 2&> rhythmbox_debug.txt
and started track tried to pause it, used previous/next buttons, pressed
play/pause again etc, so multiple tracks were playing.

I have attached this output to this report.

If I open the same folder of music (mp3 files) in VLC I can play/pause
the music, previous/next buttons work ok.

I have also tried Ubuntu 11.04 from the live CD, where Banshee is the
default music player. I seemed to get the same behaviour with play/pause
(ie not working) as I did with rhythmbox in 10.10.

[Bug 1070773] Re: system hangs on boot (at loading radeon related modules)

2012-10-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

After an upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 (kernel 3.5), the system fails to boot.
When starting without "quiet splash" options, the last kernel messages
- relate to loading and initializing radeon and drm modules. After adding
- a "nomodeset" option, the system boots but doesn't switch to the native
- resolution of 1280x800, leaves as 1024x768.
+ relate to loading and initializing radeon and drm modules.

Same problems are here when trying to boot 12.10 live usb images, both
  32- and 64-bit.

I'm currently using 3.2 kernel from Precise, which boots fine.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Use kernel boot parameter:
+ nomodeset
+
+ The system boots but doesn't switch to the native resolution of
+ 1280x800, leaves as 1024x768.
