[Bug 1074659] [NEW] ssh hangs if pm-hibernate ran on server

SmartCard reader Omnikey 3121 shows up in the guest but no card can be
found. No problem with quemu-kvm 1.0 under Ubuntu 12.04. See also my

[Blueprint servercloud-r-juju-charmhelper2] Charm Helper 2 - Declarative Charming

2012-11-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Blueprint changed by Clint Byrum:

Whiteboard set to:
We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers took
7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a declarative
system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second iteration.
Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as awesome
as it could be.
dannf likes to write makefiles
sources list
config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
Work items:
- describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
- install packages
- debconf preseeding too
- templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
- remote_files
- deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
- Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
- Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
- Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
- leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
- private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
- Collaborate on files that no charm owns

[Bug 1074460] Re: kvm: windows xp installation hangs after Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration

2012-11-03 Thread Jamin W. Collins
I did some further digging on this and it appears that it only happens
when the virtual machine definition includes a floppy device, either via
-drive or -fda. Removal of the floppy device results in being able to
successfully boot and install Windows XP. However, this does seem to
prevent one from providing the virtio drivers for storage during
installation as the additional storage drivers are provided via floppy.

[Blueprint servercloud-r-juju-charmhelper2] Charm Helper 2 - Declarative Charming

2012-11-03 Thread Chris Johnston
Blueprint changed by Chris Johnston:

Whiteboard changed:
We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
- Work items:
+ Work:

Yes this is what I get as well. I was shocked to see MATE using 230M

htop shows lightdm using 31M. Switching to slim and lxdm saved memory,
but they are not as useful.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2012-11-03 Thread Aaron Johnson
I love Unity but only unity-revamped on 12.04 is usable to me. Why can't
this be an optional feature that you can simply enable with a check box?
If you Canonical guys don't want it to function this way out of the box
then that is fine, but why don't we get a choice on how we think it
should function? It's not like minimize on click is counter intuitive...
It's what we are already used to on litterally every single OS out there
including Ubuntu until you guys took that ability away from us...

hopefully somebody sees this and knows what to change it to.

[Bug 1074584] [NEW] Backport Vala 0.18 to 12.04 LTS

2012-11-03 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

It would be nice to developers to backport vala 0.18 to 12.04 LTS. Vala
releases are parallel installable so this should not conflict with the
existing vala support in 12.04 LTS. Vala 0.18 contains important bug
fixes over 0.16 that developers may require to develop on 12.04 LTS.

[Bug 881830] Re: [MacBookPro8, 2] Trackpad single clicks nearly always double clicks

2012-11-03 Thread Doug Smythies
I think, but am not sure, that you are supposed to test the point that
git has suggested. Git can not exactly bisect yet, and needs to know
the answer if the point it selected is good or bad. For example (and
since I can not actually test the kernel for your problem, I just made a
good answer for this example):

doug@s15:~/temp-lars/ubuntu-natty$ git bisect start Ubuntu-2.6.38-8.40
Ubuntu-2.6.38-7.39
Bisecting: a merge base must be tested

doug@s15:~/temp-lars/ubuntu-natty$ git bisect good
Bisecting: 351 revisions left to test after this (roughly 9 steps)

Christopher: I didn't notice the syntax error before, only the good bad
order issue. Sorry.

Hmm, I uploaded to precise-proposed but it's being rejected I think
because Ubuntu can't have a quantal and precise version with exactly the
same version number (0.18.0-0ubuntu1). So I need to work out the right
version to give it for precise (0.18.0-0ubuntu1~precise1?).

[Bug 1074589] [NEW] [LENOVO 3626R3U] suspend/resume failure

2012-11-03 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

This is an older Lenovo x201 running quantal. It suspends and resumes
nicely most of the time, but every 5th or so attempt, maybe more, it
seems to lock up completely and is unable to resume. This forces me to
power cycle the machine.

I have been unable to reproduce this by running the suspend/resume tests
in checkbox (using either the sleep_test script or fwts). It always
happens at some point when I close the lid then open it. There seems to
be no time limit either on how long the lid is closed.

It happened to me a few times during UDS when I'd close the lid just to
walk between sessions. It happened to me again this morning when I
closed the lid last night before going to bed, and opened it this AM to
check my mail.

I am not positive, but I think having power connected may also be a
contributing factor. in this instance, it was plugged in. At UDS, I
may well have closed the lid BEFORE removing power at the end of a
session.

All Kernels later then 3.2.x does no longer work correctly.
I have tried the latest 3.7-rc3 kernel too , but even this one fails.

Latest working kernel was the 3.2 series.

Tried all available firmares out for the motherboard but it doesnt make
any difference.

Btw 3.7-rc doesn't run on this mainboard without disabling IDE support

[Bug 902852] Re: Timed autologin feature not working

2012-11-03 Thread riffe
@seb128 :

ok it works in Quantal.

But, it doesn't have a feature we had before : the graphical vizualisation of
the timer
To me this is not a must have, but it is still an important functionnal
regression.

Were you waiting for confirmation before implementing it in Precise ?

[Bug 1074494] Re: After installing fglrx-update on a Intel/ATI Hybrid graphics equiped laptop Unity fails to start, insted greeted by low graphics mode.

2012-11-03 Thread davorao
Hi Christopher,

i tried using the command you suggested in order to get more info on my bug
(apport-collect -p linux 1074494), but have failed to do so since im stuck in
non graphical environment and can not authorize the requested apport collect.
At least i didn't manage to input the URL for launchpad in order to authorize
in the browser.
Would it make sense to do this on a fresh install or is that then not the
correct info for the bug collect?

Cheers,
Davor

[Bug 834733] Re: Lightdm should display user picture (wish)

2012-11-03 Thread linuxcub
@Robert Ancell, @Mark Shuttleworth:

you wrote ...you can use another greeter...

Where do I find a save one?

In Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS i386 gnome classic (no effects), I changed
'/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf' from
'greeter-session=unity-greeter' to
'greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter', and wow, after reboot my system crushed,
only low resolution and no way to fix anything, because my mouse was gone!

I had to chroot from a Live CD into my system and restore the previous
lightdm.conf.

So, please, where do I find a list of greeters, and how do I install
them in a save way?

Thanks,

linuxcub

Since then, I am unable to boot my system because LVM volumes are not
detected. Since the /home folder is on an LVM device, Ubuntu fails to
mount it and prompts me to either skip (press S) or try manually (press
M).

I am forced to press M, type vgscan followed by mount -a and then
logout to resume the boot normally.

I have attached kern.log for the past few days. It seems to me that the
only difference is that after the update my mdraid volumes acquire
different device names:

Boot immediately before the update:
Nov 3 02:20:02 elmo kernel: [3.984469] md/raid1:md127: active with 2 out
of 2 mirrors
Nov 3 02:20:02 elmo kernel: [3.984469] md127: detected capacity change
from 0 to 8584626176
Nov 3 02:20:02 elmo kernel: [3.994084] md/raid1:md126: active with 2 out
of 2 mirrors
Nov 3 02:20:02 elmo kernel: [3.994120] md126: detected capacity change
from 0 to 8584626176

UPDATE: Start-Date: 2012-11-03 02:23:04 (see history.log above)

Boot immediately after the update:
Nov 3 07:16:49 elmo kernel: [3.871347] md/raid1:md0: active with 2 out of
2 mirrors
Nov 3 07:16:49 elmo kernel: [3.871371] md0: detected capacity change from
0 to 8584626176
Nov 3 07:16:49 elmo kernel: [6.837048] md/raid1:md127: active with 2 out
of 2 mirrors
Nov 3 07:16:49 elmo kernel: [6.837068] md127: detected capacity change
from 0 to 8584626176

There is a significant delay in detecting the second md volume. Also, a
lot of things run now before the second volume is detected, so I suspect
that the LVM scan takes place prematurely (both md raids are part of the
same LVM volume).

[Bug 1073397] Re: unityLoaded never gets called

2012-11-03 Thread Andrew Flegg
Another patch. This one corrects the XPath to get the correct labels and
ALSO includes three window.alert debug points:

1) Script initialisation
2) When isCorrectPage() returns true
3) After Unity integration has initialised

If the patch still isn't working for you, please record which of these
three messages you get. We _might_ have to get your HTML structure saved
off (I used Firefox's built-in inspector to copy the outer HTML of the
html element). I'd suggest not attaching it to the bug, though, at
least without some very careful content scrubbing.

** Patch added: Update to Gmail.user.patch which corrects the labels XPath and
adds debug statements

[Bug 1043096] Re: Use UUID for root file systems on /dev/md*

2012-11-03 Thread Alexandros
I just ran into some trouble with my desktop LVM/raid setup after
updating my 12.04 installation's udev. I've been searching through
launchpad to find if anyone else has the problem and this seems quite
related. Are changes made to support LVM install in 12.10 being
backported to 12.04? In my first update after 12.10 was release (note: I
am still on 12.04) my LVM/raid setup stopped working because of the way
initrd works (see bug 1074597)

My Netgear USB wifi A6200 does not work in 12.10. It si not being
recognized by the system the stick is IEEE 802.11ac (backwards a/b/g/n)
compatible. It comes with Windows driver but this driver cannot seem to
be installed with Wine. with PlayonLinux Windows driver installs but USB
stick not receognized.

Filed this report on my HP-Mini netbook, but was told to file it again
from this computer HP-7100 (8GB RAM/2X1TB HD/i7 processor at 2.4MHz).
Received no helpful answer on problem on netbook and finally support
stopped responding.

[Bug 1074260]

2012-11-03 Thread Irving
Disabling download of MIME parts on demand may work around this issue -
could some of you try setting the advanced preference

mail.imap.mime_parts_on_demand

to false, restart Thunderbird, and see if the problem goes away?
