Just an FYI for people that come across this bug: not all USB devices
are affected. USB passthrough is working for me with a Logitech C920

freezing.

[Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2012-11-11 Thread ameyabhi
Been affected by this for several months now with no good solution in
sight. It also crashes when i use the change brightness option in the
user preferences. And of course it happens when i use the shortcut keys
to change brightness provided on the laptop. I have a dell inspiron and
the 64-bit version.

And as someone else mentioned before, this occurs only when you try to
agressively change the brightness. A slow brightness change doesnt cause
the crash. A frustrating problem. Have actually started using windows at
times now.

[Bug 1077565]

2012-11-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1077565/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1074037] Re: Bad formatting in command in string #68

2012-11-11 Thread Sylvie Gallet
Hi,

I couldn't find anything wrong in the source either, all I saw when I
reported this bug was what Rosetta shows on the translation page: it
clearly show sudo alien followed by a space and a line break and 8
spaces on the second line.

A hex dump of the xml file doesn't show anything wrong either.

Is it a bug in Rosetta?

Best regards

[Bug 802545] Re: Bluetooth not working on Acer W500 tablet

Wrong driver for some, if lsusb -v -d 0cf3:3005 reports something, this will
fix it:
http://www.mail-archive.com/stable@vger.kernel.org/msg19076.html
For me this patch is not working because I have a different bluetooth chip.
Can you guys post lsusb so we can confirm which chip you have?

[Bug 1077583] [NEW] 3.7.0.0.5 wrong i8042 pnp

2012-11-11 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

That kernel from raring-proposed is wrongly identified as an upstream by
apport, so i report here the dmesg.log error:

  i8042: PNP: PS/2 Controller [PNP0303:PS2K] at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
i8042: PNP: PS/2 appears to have AUX port disabled, if this is incorrect
please boot with i8042.nopnp
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
mousedev: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice

The main issues about that error is with the mouse plugged on usb when:
- i play with aisleriot: moving card works for a while, then grabing become
impossible most of the time
- more annoying: when i want to select a block of cells into calc, its become
unusable

[Bug 1063354] Re: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems

2012-11-11 Thread Josh Wines
I hit this same issue after upgrading to 12.10, so decided to downgrade
back to 12.04 for the time being (both were fresh installs). After a
couple of hours running in 12.04 my file-systems have once again gone
into a read-only mode running on the stock 3.2.0 kernel used in 12.04 so
at least for me it seems as if it's not just limited to the 3.5.0 kernel
used in 12.10.

[Bug 1058642] Re: loud noise when starting video (Movie Player, VLC) Quantal 12.10 64bit

2012-11-11 Thread Daniel Harvison
Mohammad Razavi, with vlc's sound output set to ALSA, sound is lost when
you pause playback, and there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. Either
you have the screechy sound with the pulseaudio output, or you have alsa
output where you can't pause the file you're playing without losing
sound.

[Bug 1077591] [NEW] Deluged fails magnet URI metadata exchange

2012-11-11 Thread Rotonen
Public bug reported:

When adding a torrent from a magnet URI, deluge-console info is showing
0 for the size, even when it over a period of several days finds and
connects to a lot of peers. It also finds a lot of seeds, but does not
connect to any. This would to the best of my understanding of the
protocol indicate a failure in communicating the metadata exchange.

UPnP is working in my network via linux-igd, so the network reachability
is a non-issue here (also, non-magnet torrents work fine and as
expected).

I'm suspecting a libtorrent-rasterbar6 bug, but I have no relevant
expertise to debug or verify the cause or scope. I am willing to debug
under guidance.

This seems to affect other people too. I am basing this suspicion on a
quick internet search on the subject.

This worked on 10.04 and has only broken on 12.04.

[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 support

2012-11-11 Thread Denis Kurochkin
There is temporary workaround:

Install kernell 3.6.x from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline:

linux-headers-3.6.6-030606-generic_3.6.6-030606.201211050512_amd64.deb
linux-headers-3.6.6-030606_3.6.6-030606.201211050512_all.deb
linux-image-3.6.6-030606-generic_3.6.6-030606.201211050512_amd64.deb
linux-image-extra-3.6.6-030606-generic_3.6.6-030606.201211050512_amd64.deb

Then download firmware from kernel.org:
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git
sudo cp linux-firmware/rt3290.bin /lib/firmware

reboot

But I hope that sometime this driver will be backported to 12.10

[Bug 1044747] Re: mtp filesystem can't mount

2012-11-11 Thread Giovanni Mellini
Hi all
I fount this post where and seems that 1,1.5 version fix the issue (1.1.5 is in
13.04)
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?set=customviewmonth=viewday=forum_name=libmtp-discussstyle=nestedmax_rows=100submit=Change+View

I compiled from source and installed in 12.10 libmpt1-1.5 and now I can mount
my Galaxy S2 storage (so I can copy files) but I still have problems with
Openshot and Rhythmbox.
I think that I should try with 13.04 and see if it works fine

Ciao
Giovanni

[Bug 1075296] Re: nomodeset needed for radeon 7000

2012-11-11 Thread hpkeck
I analysed this problem further and found out that all videos are played using
the Xvideo extension by default (on precise). This is different from lucid,
where the Xvideo extension doesn't seem to be available (xvinfo reports that no
driver was found).
If I force the video player to use the x11 driver (e.g. mplayer -vo x11 ...) I
get a better performance (on precise). BTW, the bug seems to exist in Debian as
well, because this description is quite similar to what I am experiencing:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=672972

What I do not understand so far:
1. Why does it help to boot with nomodeset? Somehow the kernel modesetting
seems to be involved.
2. Should Xvideo be enabled? Because it wasn't on lucid, but it seems that it
has been enabled earlier (see
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/9305/xvideo-extension-not-active-with-the-radeon-driver).
Which component is responsible for enabling it? It doesn't seem to be the Xorg
radeon driver, because if I use an old version that is similar to the one used
in lucid (I compiled 6.13.1 myself), Xvideo is still enabled on precise.

I will continue investigating...

[Bug 913993] Re: audio/video out of sync (a=copy,v=copy)

2012-11-11 Thread Guy Richie
Hello All,

Please be aware that acidrip is largely a GUI for mencoder. This fault
exists at the mencoder level. I have compiled the latest svn source
code of mplayer (which includes mencoder) and the problem still
persists.

Reverting back to version 1.0rc3 (available here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/MPlayer-1.0rc3.tar.bz2) solves
the problem.

This bug should be reprted here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html

Many thanks,
Guy

Had same issue on 12.04 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf failed). Problem
solved by creating folder cups-pdf inside /var/spool/ or put this line:
mkdir /var/spool/cups-pdf inside /etc/rc.local. This will create folder
on every boot.

dkms already Recommends linux-headers-generic.
Since there are also other kernel flavors a hard dependency on -generic would
be wrong.
Unfortunately there are no conditional package dependencies (e.g. install

Hi dino99,

I have given

old_refcount 0

from the error message you have seen a search on launchpad and have
found

Bug #1066144

.

They have some trouble to determine what causes the problem. May be you
can help there. It is not sure that the same application is causing the
dbus exception, but for now I mark your report as dub.

[Bug 1069019] Re: [software-properties-gtk] can not delete, enable or modify any software source with non-ASCII characters in the comment

2012-11-11 Thread PhoneixS
Ok, I have tried it and as a workaround you can delete that conflictin
characters from sources manually.
How to:
1º Open terminal.
2º cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
3º Open each .list file that can't be changed as root (sudo nano
irie-blender-precise.list, for example).
4º Remove (or change) any character that isn't ascii.
5º Save the file and repeat the process as needed.

I'm not sure about the package to report against, might not be dbus as its the
output. Get that error logged inside boot.log:

process 330: arguments to dbus_server_disconnect() were incorrect, assertion
old_refcount 0 failed in file ../../dbus/dbus-server.c line 786.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

The lightdm.log is clean, and i dont have a plymouth.log; so maybe its
related to 3.7.0.0.5 kernel i use (RR proposed)

[Bug 1015010] Re: Cannot connect to Samsung Galaxy S III

2012-11-11 Thread Federico Bruni
I've flashed my device and I have Cyanogenmod installed now.
Now things seem to work fine.
The settings on the phone are the same as before flashing (debug mode and FTP
mode enabled).

When I plug the device, I see the device mounted in Nautilus. Actually it's
not mounted, it's just gphoto2.
Also, Clementine (media player) auto-starts and mounts the SD card.. but cannot
read the files (no URI handler for MTP).

Despite this annoying automatic stuff, mtp-detect and gmtp now work fine.
So maybe the problem comes from the Android shipped within the device?
