[Bug 1079989] [NEW] Development version upgrade button not working

2012-11-16 Thread RaduStoica
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to update to the development version.

Running update-manager -d shows an Update button for 13.04, but clicking
on it doesn't do anything. I get a message in the terminal "No new
release found".

What I expected to happen:

Either the Update button is not shown, if I can't upgrade to a new
release, or the button works.

[Bug 1078924] Re: [Latitude E6520, IDT 92HD90BXX, Black Mic, Left] No sound at all

2012-11-16 Thread Raymond
>>…where would I start reading up on configuration of alsa?

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git;a=blob_plain;f=Documentation/sound/alsa
/HD-Audio-Controls.txt;hb=HEAD

IDT/Sigmatel codecs
---

* Analog Loopback
This control enables/disables the analog-loopback circuit. This
appears only when "loopback" is set to true in a codec hint
(see HD-Audio.txt). Note that on some codecs the analog-loopback
and the normal PCM playback are exclusive, i.e. when this is on, you
  won't hear any PCM stream.

* Swap Center/LFE
Swaps the center and LFE channel order. Normally, the left
corresponds to the center and the right to the LFE. When this is
ON, the left to the LFE and the right to the center.

* Headphone as Line Out
When this control is ON, treat the headphone jacks as line-out
jacks. That is, the headphone won't auto-mute the other line-outs,
and no HP-amp is set to the pins.

* Mic Jack Mode, Line Jack Mode, etc
These enum controls the direction and the bias of the input jack
pins. Depending on the jack type, it can set as "Mic In" and "Line
In", for determining the input bias, or it can be set to "Line Out"
when the pin is a multi-I/O jack for surround channels.

[Bug 1033669] Re: compizconfig causes python to segfault in quantal

2012-11-16 Thread Fernando Perez
Same as dseidel here:

In [1]: import compizconfig

In [2]: ctx = compizconfig.Context()
compizconfig - Info: Backend : ini
compizconfig - Info: Integration : true
compizconfig - Info: Profile : default
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Immediate segfault upon creating the context, before any invalid
settings have been passed. This is using XFCE4 on ubuntu 12.10, freshly
upgraded from 12.04.

Basically this means that now it's impossible to tweak any Compiz
settings on 12.10.

[Bug 1041790] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001

2012-11-16 Thread Rocko
I still experience this bug, even with the latest intel driver from git,
xf86-video-intel-2.6.99.902. I would use SNA but it has an even more
annoying bug after the screen saver unlocks where unity just shows me a
black screen and mouse cursor, and I have to physically restart unity to
get it working again.

[Bug 999765] Re: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it

2012-11-16 Thread Bernie Zemke
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1056743 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1056743

A beginner here so forgive me if I do something wrong.

When I go to the dash and type in "freecell" what I want won't come up.
If I type "free cell" the Freecell Solitaire game will show up which is
what I wanted.

The people on Ubuntu Forum helped me and asked if I would do a bug
report. The thread is called "move application to folder".

Thank You, Bernie

[Bug 1079977] [NEW] i1Display3 udev rules didn't get converted to colord

2012-11-16 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
Public bug reported:

Inexplicably, one set of udev rules in /lib/udev/rules.d/69-cd-
sensors.rules didn't get converted from gcm to colord:

# i1Display3

ATTRS{idVendor}=="0765", ATTRS{idProduct}=="5020", ENV{GCM_COLORIMETER}="1",
ENV{GCM_KIND}="i1-display3", ENV{GCM_TYPE_DISPLAY}="1", ENV{GCM_TYPE_\
PROJECTOR}="1", ENV{GCM_TYPE_SPOT}="1"

I believe the following is correct:

# i1Display3

ATTRS{idVendor}=="0765", ATTRS{idProduct}=="5020", ENV{COLORD_SENSOR}="1",
ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_KIND}="i1-display3", ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_CAP_LCD}="1", \
ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_CAP_CRT}="1", ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_CAP_PROJECTOR}="1",
ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_CAP_AMBIENT}="1", ENV{COLORD_SENSOR_CAP_SPOT}="1"

I happened to just purchase one of these. With the rule fixed, it was
recognized; without it, not.

[Bug 999765] Re: Dash search won't return results when typing the exact name of an app containing a capital letter inside it

2012-11-16 Thread Aaron Gerber
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1056743 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1056743

Of course this is subjective, but it seems to me that a modern search
engine in this context should ignore spaces, anyways. Even if Unity
weren't errantly splitting the names, it would seem common enough that a
user wouldn't know whether to include or exclude a space in a compound-
word application name.

[Bug 880533] Re: Thunar reports Trash Empty when it is not

2012-11-16 Thread Mike Kupfer
Sorry... I didn't read the original description as closely as I should
have, so I didn't realize this bug report was referring to the trash
applet, not the desktop icon. (I do see the same issue, though, with
the desktop trash icon: it's shown as empty when it actually contains
something). My workaround (comment #5) only works for the desktop trash
icon, not the panel icon.

[Bug 1070886] Re: package octave 3.6.2-5 failed to install/upgrade: podproces instalovaný post-installation skript vrátil chybový status 1

2012-11-16 Thread Mike Miller
The errors at the end of your installation log show that the octave-java
package is failing because it can't find the Java runtime. The octave-
java package in Ubuntu is compiled to only work with OpenJDK 7. I also
see in your logs that you have installed a different Java runtime from
an unsupported PPA that will not work with the octave-java package.

Can you try the following (untested):

  sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre-headless
  sudo dpkg --configure -a

and report back whether that fixes your Octave installation or not?
Assuming the system is still in this state, the second command should
finish configuring all packages that were left unconfigured.

[Bug 1079967] [NEW] Opening a webapp from the dash opens a new browser window

2012-11-16 Thread Ethan Hogue
Public bug reported:

Overview:
--
What was expected:
-opening the dash and selecting a webapp, say, facebook would open facebook in
a new browser tab
What happened instead:
-launching facebook from the dash opened facebook in a new Firefox window

Reasoning:
---
I think that -- to provide the most fluid user experience possible -- that
webapps should open in a new tab of the main browser window on the current
workspace. It is enormously inconvenient to have the facebook web app open,
then decide to go back to my main browser window and have to click to bring up
the spread and then select the proper window. The problem is amplified when I
have multiple webapps open (facebook+tumblr+launchpad, etc.) and have to sift
through a number of browser windows in spread mode just to find my actual one.
On top of this, going to a webapp via web browser (ie, typing facebook.com into
Firefox's awesome bar) does not open a new window, but rather a tab. This
gives the whole "webapp experience" a very inconsistent feel.

Scenario:

An inexperienced user has just installed Ubuntu and is trying it out. They
open Firefox, and (naturally) immediately log into facebook. Facebook asks
them to install their app as a webapp, and the user thinks this is cool and
clicks yes. Facebook installs, the icon appears in the launcher, and that's
that. The user then goes on to browse the web.
The next time the user boots up and logs in, they open up firefox to browse the
web. After a little while, they decide to go on facebook, and follow the
offically endorsed workflow: hit start -> type "facebook" -> click the icon.
Facebook opens in a new window. They now have TWO browser windows open,
whereas last time they did virtually the same thing they only had one. They'll
inevitably end up googling stuff from tabs in the facebook window, until their
internet experience is a mess spread out over multiple browser windows.

Solution:

My proposed solution is this: webapps are simply shortcuts to tabs in the main
browser window. If a user want their app in a new window, they can drag the
tab out into a new window manually (it is easier in Firefox to do this than the
opposite). If you want to go to facebook, you just click the icon and it takes
you to the tab, easy as pie. This will also make switching back and forth
between a website, a webapp and a desktop app much easier: only one click per
switch (ex: click facebook icon to get to facebook -> click ubuntu.com to get
to Ubuntu website -> click gedit icon to get to gedit).

I've done some looking into the code for the package and have come up
with some possible modifications, but I'm not sure how to go about
patching and testing on my system before submitting, so I guess I'm
limited to just this bug report.

After about a week without crashes, I was beginning to think the bug was fixed.
But it happened again just a few minutes ago while I was playing a video from

Hard crash, auto reboot after a while.

I notice when the video is playing, the last sound/voice kept repeating
when the system crash, like this guy on the video was saying the word
"integral".. Then when my system crash the sound on my speaker is like
"integral... integral...integral... integral...integral...
integral...integral... integral..." kept on repeating until it reboots

3.4.0-030400-generic-pae

I'm losing faith on canonical... I was their biggest fan before.

[Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute pointing devices

2012-11-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
+ When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and sometimes
jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm moving a window with
the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps over to the left or top
left as well.

  [Fix]
+ Patch cherrypicked from upstream

  [Test Case]
+ On affected hardware, move mouse around.
+
+ Expected: Smooth mouse movement
+ Actual: Jerky movement with mouse jumping to 0,0 periodically

  [Regression Potential]
+ Low. No known issues, and test has received review and testing upstream, and
so is not expected to show regressions.
+
+ Things to watch for include X server crashes, and strange mouse
+ behaviors, both of which should be pretty obvious.

  [Recommended Validation]
+ * Confirmation from a couple affected users
+ * 1-week minimum time in -proposed to identify regressions

  [Original Report]
-
-
  I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 inside a VirtualBox 4.2RC2 VM, and Ubuntu doesn't
recognise the 3d drivers so it is falling back to llvmpipe.

When I move the mouse around, it sometimes vanishes completely, and
sometimes jumps over to the left or top left of the screen. If I'm
moving a window with the mouse at the time, the window vanishes or jumps
over to the left or top left as well.

With 'force complete redraw on initial damage' turned on, it seems that
  glitch happens much more frequently.

[Bug 1079940] Re: [Sony VAIO VPCS137GG] Laptop suspend fails

2012-11-16 Thread Damian Beltrami
Hi Christopher,

I tested v3.7-rc5-raring.

I cannot test fully as my display drivers (nouveau or Nvidia drivers)
and/or Unity do not work properly. Unity does not load although I can
run applicatons (no window manager controls)

However, the laptop does suspend properly with this Kernel.
Unfortunately I was not able to resume from suspend (this may be related
to the display driver issues)

[Bug 1079958] [NEW] cannot find mercurial python module: using wrong python

2012-11-16 Thread Jay R. Wren
Public bug reported:

when I run hg-fast-export I get this output:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/hg-fast-export/hg-fast-export.py", line 6, in
from mercurial import repo,hg,cmdutil,util,ui,revlog,node
ImportError: No module named mercurial
git-fast-import statistics:

The hg-fast-export shell script is calling python which is python3, but
the mercurial python module is 2.7 only.

I can work around by setting PYTHON=python2.7 environment variable, but
this package should do this itself.
