[Bug 1039627] Re: etckeeper init with git gives error
I see this same behaviour on two of my Ubuntu machines (one a VM, one a physical host). Given that they both report the chgrp error on different files, my initial suspicion is that the issue is related to the number of packages installed or the number of files/directories in /etc. root@hex:/etc# etckeeper init chgrp: missing operand after `./X11/app-defaults' Try `chgrp --help' for more information. root@sek:/etc# etckeeper init chown: missing operand after `./smokeping/smokeping_secrets' Try `chown --help' for more information. However, a third (much more recently-installed) Ubuntu VM ran `etckeeper init` quite happily with no errors. Responses to the details requested above: root@sek:/etc# cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=quantal DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 12.10 root@hex:/etc# cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=quantal DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 12.10 root@sek:/etc# dpkg -l | grep etckeeper ii etckeeper 0.61ubuntu2 all store /etc in git, mercurial, bzr or darcs root@hex:/etc# dpkg -l | grep etckeeper ii etckeeper 0.61ubuntu2 all store /etc in git, mercurial, bzr or darcs $LANG on both machines is en_GB.UTF-8. As for the machine on which etckeeper *IS* working, these are the details given for the same commands as above: root@hat:/etc# cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=quantal DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 12.10 root@hat:/etc# dpkg -l | grep etckeeper ii etckeeper 0.61ubuntu2 all store /etc in git, mercurial, bzr or darcs $LANG is also en_GB.UTF-8. Re: [Bug 1033727] Re: USB passthrough doesn't work anymore with qemu-kvm 1.1.1
Hello Michael, Am 1/12/2013 1:24 PM, Michael Tokarev wrote: Peter, are you able to run git bisect or something like that, to try to pinpoint either the commit which introduced this issue or which fixed it? Well, i'm no expert at git, but i made some progress, see below. Besides, what are the sympthoms of the device non-working? Does it happen with linux guest too? Have you tried re-running the guest again when the problem occur, using the same problematic version of qemu - I mean, is it 100% reproducible or happens at random? In my case it's the SmartCard-Reader that's not working, i.e. the DATEV Software called Sicherheitspaket does not work. The background process called SiPaHost.exe just hangs; any client program trying to display SmartCard information does also just hang forever. That behaviour is 100% reproducible and persists over reboots of the Linux host and/or the Windows guest (Windows XP SP3). I did not try Linux guests. Yesterday, i used git to checkout all qemu-kvm versions from kernel.org and build Debian packets from it (source kept vanilla, i just applied the two patches that rename paths from 'qemuXXX' to 'kvmXXX'). The findings were: - v1.0 - ok - v1.0.1 - ok - v1.1.0 - not ok - v1.1.1 - not ok - v1.1.2 - not ok - v1.2.0 - not ok So far, this is consistent with the findings in this bug report. BUT: The latest HEAD from kernel.org (called v1.2.50) also does work again! So, i'm now learning about git bisect (however, today i won't have time for this). [Bug 908335] Re: Kernel Hard Freezing Very Often
I am running 12.04 LTS and got the same problem. So far, I could reproduce it by running Filezilla. The machine completely freezes, no mouse, no terminal, not even the magic kernel commands work anymore, and yes, the fan spins up. Machine T530, Intel i915, FullHD display. What I tried: Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS from HDD upgraded from 10.10 via 11.04/11.10 Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS from thumbdrive, plain installed from ISO Ubuntu 12.10 from thumbdrive, plain fresh ISO Gnome3 3.4 and 3.6 Gnome3 Fallback XFCE 4.10 Cinnamon 1.6.7 Unity Compiz Metacity With and without external display I cannot get kernel 3.3 or higher to work on my machine with the installed Ubuntu on HDD. Somehow the graphics fail but I currently have a 13.04 alpha running from thumbddrive and will see if this works ok or not. Already had a freeze without Filezilla open when I was starting Firefox. Survied an entire day when not using Filezilla, but since I had a freeze without it today, this is rather a lucky incident than system. But at least Filezilla seems to provoke it. Nothing in any log files, because the system stops instantly. So I suspect the kernel in conjunction with the T530 hardware. Turned of hyperthreading, power management, and so on... all the same. Because it happens with an 3.5 kernel as well, it is not only a 3.2 problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908335 Title: Kernel Hard Freezing Very Often To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/908335/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1099237/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Re: [Bug 1099002] Re: Remote upgrade over aiccu connection failed
+++ Jeroen Massar [2013-01-13 06:42 -]: So it looks lot like aiccu dropped te connction during the upgrade. Replacing a package (and thus the binary) implies restarting AICCU to get the new binary up and running. The only way to figure out what happened and what failed is to see the log, which is not attached. If/When I manage to get access to the machine again (hopefully soon) I will find the log and add it here. preserve connections wherever possible, Due to the restart of the binary, that is impossible. In these kind of situations one could say to not upgrade tools like this remotely Yes. After more than a decade of remote upgrades 'just working' due to whatever magic ssh uses I forgot that this is actually a very tricky thing. It is the first time I have ever used aiccu to get to a remote box (useful because it does the NAT traversal through the router at the far end). Note that the way that ssh solves this is to run an other binary on a different port, OK. I don't understand how that is done transparently, but I guess I can read about it somewhere. this is not possible with AICCU as it is actualy providing the connectivity. The other work around is of course to use IPv4, at least as a backup, as that connectivity is likely there; thus: ssh into the box using IPv6, set up a reverse SSH over IPv4 as a backup connection (similar to the SSH scenario where the alternative port SSH is the backup) and then get into that one over IPv4 too to be sure to be able to survive the AICCU restart. Right. I now know about this procedure and will indeed use it in future. I guess when we have native IPv6 then remote upgrades will not have this problem and will be at least as reliable as ipv4 ssh upgrades. In the end though this is a non-bug mostly. Though there could maybe be a huge warning, similar to the SSH case, to note to the user that AICCU (and any other VPN tool like OpenVPN etc) is being used and that it might be that that connection gets lost, in the same way as SSH. A warning would have helped me enormously. I did not notice aiccu in the list of 300MB of packages, but even if I had I probably wouldn't have thought about the connection-loss risk without a hint. I accept that this is not really a bug - or at best wishlist bug for a warning. This filing may help a few other people to avoid tripping over it. [Bug 1074083] Re: Insert a column /moving a block in a conditional formatted range give wrong results
Romano Giannetti, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1074083 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. As well, the problem is unreproducible via a terminal: cd ~/Desktop wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1074083/+attachment/3420866/+files/test_new_cf.ods localc --nologo test_new_cf.ods when one inserts a new column in C, the conditional formatting is not applied to the new column, as expected. [Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)
Toshiba Satellite C875-S7304 running a Realtek RTL8188CE. I have followed this thread for some time and have tried most every suggestion contained within to resolve my issue with limited success. I just wanted to pass on that I have had no issues running Ubuntu 13.04 and LinuxMint 14 with my card. Out of the box, wireless worked with both distros. My latest testing was with LinuxMint 14. I tested for 3 days where I did not power down the laptop. I have run regular speed tests and still see upwards of 18Mbps which exceeds my subscribed connection speed (sadly). Previously, when I could get the card to work, I would see drastic slow downs after a couple hours at best, never going above 1Mbps and experiencing heavy packet loss. I certainly understand that not everyone will want to change to one of these especially since Ubuntu 13.04 is in beta as of this posting but I wanted to put out the info for those still seeking a solution. I am confused as to why my card will not work with Ubuntu 12.10 but will with LinuxMint 14 since it is based on 12.10. Just wanted to take second to thank everyone posting on this issue for your time to try to help us resolve this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/902557 Title: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/902557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)
I have recently found this article (http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/fix- wireless-or-wired-network-not.html) and it seems to solve the issue for me. It's been 3 or 4 days since I followed the instructions and so far the network connection after resume has been perfect.
