Can I please have a transcript of the error you're seeing? There are
(at least) two possible failure modes here.

[Bug 1092076] Re: Please merge vsftpd 3.0.2-1 (main) from debian unstable (main)

2013-01-22 Thread Iain Lane
Uploaded. Thanks.

I added a bug reference and removed the changelog entry about the
postinst, which isn't in your diff and wasn't in the previous upload
AFAICS.

Also your comment about compat isn't right; it shouldn't be changed over
Debian as a matter of routine unless you need some of the new behaviour
(see man debhelper for what changes).

[Bug 1060404] Re: update-grub runs and fails in containers

2013-01-22 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I installed the version from precise-updates on a precise lxc, which didn't
have grub-pc before. It worked for me. Here is the output:

(...)
Processing triggers for ureadahead ...
Setting up libfreetype6 (2.4.8-1ubuntu2.1) ...
Setting up gettext-base (0.18.1.1-5ubuntu3) ...
Setting up libfuse2 (2.8.6-2ubuntu2) ...
Setting up grub-common (1.99-21ubuntu3.8) ...
Setting up grub2-common (1.99-21ubuntu3.8) ...
Setting up grub-pc-bin (1.99-21ubuntu3.8) ...
Setting up os-prober (1.51ubuntu3) ...
Setting up grub-pc (1.99-21ubuntu3.8) ...

Creating config file /etc/default/grub with new version
lxc
Setting up grub-gfxpayload-lists (0.6) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
root@precise:~#

That lone lxc comes from grub's postinst calling running-in-
container. I think it could have its output redirected to /dev/null,
unless we want to restrict this test to lxc:

root@precise:~# running-in-container
lxc

Re: [Bug 1060404] Re: update-grub runs and fails in containers

2013-01-22 Thread Colin Watson
Andreas: Thanks. I already noticed the running-in-container output and
fixed it in Debian experimental (which will be merged into raring at
some point); it probably isn't worth revising precise for in the absence
of another pressing need to touch those lines of code, though.

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-01-22 Thread Robie Basak
To answer questions about getting an update into 12.04, we need (from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates):

An impact statement which explains who this bug affects (use cases), why this
is a problem and why we need an update in 12.04 for it.
A test case with exact steps to reproduce the problem, so that we can verify
any backported fix.
Confirmation that this is fixed in the development release (Raring).
A patch to fix this issue in Precise. Ideally this would be a pointer to the
upstream commit and apply cleanly.
Discussion of possible regressions to existing users, particularly any change
in behaviour that an existing user not affected by this bug might get angry
about, and areas where a regression is likely to be found if one does exist so
that the SRU verification team can try and find them.
All of this information gathered together in one place for the SRU team to
review.

I am familiar with Kerberos and have spent my share of time debugging
DNS-related Kerberos issues, but I'm read through this bug and although
I have some idea I don't feel that I'm completely clear on answers to
these questions. If somebody can help with this paperwork, point out
the upstream commit to cherry-pick and there is consensus on all of
this, I think there's enough here to warrant an update to 12.04.

[Bug 1099088] [NEW] debconf failed to set mysql5-5 root passphrase

2013-01-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On installing mysql5-5 server with Software-Center debconf ask for the
root passphrase.

I give a very long with many special characters to it.

Unfortunally debconf failed with the massage:

Unable to set password for the MYSQL root user

An error occurred while setting the password for the MySQL
administrative user. This may have happened because the account already
has a password, or because of a communication problem with the MySQL
server.

You should check the account's password after the package installation.

Please read the /usr/share/doc/mysql-server-5.5/README.Debian file for
more information.

In the case that there is interest of handling this ticket I can give
the pasword for reproducing purposes if the ticket can be handeld and
keep as private.

[Bug 1060404] Re: update-grub runs and fails in containers

2013-01-22 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted grub2 into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/1.99-21ubuntu3.9
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Happens on 12.10 with libapache2-mod-php5 version 5.4.6-1ubuntu1.1

So the claim in the debian bug that it should be fixed in 5.4.4-12 is
not true.

Just FYI, the fix that is going into trunk requires some things to be
present in /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg. I'm not sure fixing this is worth a
conffile update, so we might have to just leave this as a Won't Fix for
quantal unless we do something clever, and clever usually leads to
regressions.. :-P

[Bug 1098320] Re: ceph: default crush rule does not suit multi-OSD deployments

2013-01-22 Thread Paul Collins
From my point of view, probably not very. We (= Canonical IS) are
running 12.04 LTS plus packages from the Ubuntu Cloud Archive. I don't
believe we'll do many more folsom+argonaut deployments before
grizzly+bobtail arrives, and in any case it's sufficiently well
documented internally that it's not a big problem for us.

[Bug 1103353] [NEW] Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash

2013-01-22 Thread Jouko Orava
Public bug reported:

If the cipher suite string is unacceptable to GnuTLS, libldap_r-2.4
crashes due to a double free. GnuTLS is extremely picky about the cipher
suite strings it accepts; as a first measure, try LDAP cipher suite
string SECURE256 or NORMAL. If that stops the crash, then you have
encountered this bug.

Typically, the crash report begins with something like

*** glibc detected *** APPLICATION: double free or corruption (!prev)
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x7eb96)[0x7fc68cff0b96]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x38769)[0x7fc68bb13769]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x3570e)[0x7fc68bb1070e]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(ldap_pvt_tls_init_def_ctx+0x1d)[0x7fc68bb108ed]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x35965)[0x7fc68bb10965]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x35a6d)[0x7fc68bb10a6d]
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(ldap_int_tls_start+0x5d)[0x7fc68bb1149d]

The actual double free happens in
openldap/libraries/libldap/tls2.c:ldap_int_tls_init_ctx(), in the
ldap_pvt_tls_ctx_free(lo-ldo_tls_ctx); call in the error_exit: path.

The root cause of the double free is lack of GnuTLS return value checks
when calling gnutls_priority*() functions. The code simply assumes they
succeed, and when GnuTLS fails to provide a valid context due to those
failures, ldap_int_tls_init_ctx() tries to free the never-fully-
initialized context.

A simple fix is to create GnuTLS security contexts using the configured
cipher suite string, instead of NORMAL as
openldap/libraries/libldap/tls_g.c now does. If the cipher suite string
is invalid, then do not create the context at all. This is caught
earlier in ldap_int_tls_init_ctx(), and avoids the crash.

** Affects: openldap (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: Suggested patch to fix libldap crash with invalid GnuTLS
cipher suite strings

[Bug 1036181] Re: .viminfo file is wrong in Slovenian translation

2013-01-22 Thread Andrej Znidarsic
Hello Robert!

I've just tested it and this has been fixed. The problem is language
pack update with the fix has not been released as a stable release
update yet. Probably there should be one relased for 12.04.2.

In the mean time you can get the newest langpack with this fix included
by executing these commands in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-langpack/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Having the same problem here on 12.10 with all updates installed. I fixed my

After the reboot, the message is still there, stating that my filesystems will
be checked on reboot. However, I checked my filesystems, and they were both
checked when I rebooted just now:
