[Bug 1008344] Re: checks "admin" group membership instead of querying polkit
Please, drop the is_admin check completely. I said it already: "you cannot know whether the user knows the password of an admin account if you do not ask for it". If you try guessing, you will inevitable guess wrong sometimes and frustrate the user. This is also true if polkit does the guessing. If you do not want to confuse user with admin buttons, then, either put a lock symbol on all of them, of grey them out and add a single unlock button just like the time settings dialog. For the check for missing packages, you can just add a button "check for missing packages", or run the check when the user clicks the unlock button. Or you convert the popup that asks the user into a text and button in the language dialog, something along "Missing packages detect. [ Install them]". This solution is easy to implement, does not require new polkit features, has a clear, obvious, ui, and does not get in the way of users by hiding things from them they would like to see. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1008344 Title: checks "admin" group membership instead of querying polkit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/policykit/+bug/1008344/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1108518] Re: lightdm should not rename() .xsession-errors, as it may be a symlink
My point isn't so much that there is a race, or a sec vuln or something. My point is that on my systems: $HOME may be on NFS. $HOME/.xsession-errors is a symlink to /usr/local/home/$USER/.xsession-errors $HOME/.xsession-errors.old is a symlink to /usr/local/home/$USER/.xsession-errors.old The obvious think is to just call readlink on logfile to canonicalize the filename. The readlink manpage specifies a way to do this 'sort of' safely. lstat(path) # to get the size of the symlink dest. allocate string of correct size. readlink(path) Check that the path we got from readlink was size bytes. Now obviously the link can be replaced (at readlink()) time, but readlink would return EINVAL then. Once we have the 'canonical' name we can call rename on that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1108518 Title: lightdm should not rename() .xsession-errors, as it may be a symlink To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1108518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1016147] Re: ALPS Touchpad' incorrectly detected as PS/2 mouse in 'Acer Aspire V3-771G'
For all those still looking, I have an Acer Aspire v3 771g and this package: psmouse-alps-dst-0.4.tbz , works perfectly, here are installation instructions: Extract psmouse-alps-dst-0.4 in /usr/src/ with sudo rights. If you have installed the module before, I suggest you to completely remove it before reinstalling with: sudo dkms remove psmouse/alps-dst-0.4 --all (of course, if you have installed another version of the module, change version number accordingly) Then just give those commands in the terminal: sudo dkms build psmouse/alps-dst-0.4 sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-dst-0.4 sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe -v psmouse After that your touchpad will be hopefully recognized by your machine. [Bug 1103594] Re: Cypress Trackpad wrongly (?) detected as "PS/2 Cypress Trackpad" ("evdev *pointer* catchall") on XPS 12
ERRATA: 'i915.invert_brightness=1' is *not* the way to go. Brightness is actually handled correclty... but when booting the XPS 12 with 3.8rc5, brightness is by default set to its minimum value (iow. off). One just needs to increase it with Fn+F5 to have the panel "wake up". Note that this issue is also solved in the Quantal kernel, which, if I read correctly, incorporates all the quirks - for the brightness, trackpad, etc. - that have been developed as part of the Dell/Ubuntu Sputnik project (for the XPS 13). Ah, I believe I made it so that if mutter wasn't installed, it just uses the default value of 10px, as there was very little usecase for making it configurable. If you want to adjust it, you'll have to install mutter, and adjusting that setting will adjust the draggable border width on both mutter and unity. > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are a bug assignee. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 > > Title: > Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult > > Status in Ayatana Design: > Fix Released > Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: > Fix Released > Status in The Metacity Window Manager: > In Progress > Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu: > Fix Released > Status in Unity: > Fix Released > Status in Unity 2D: > Invalid > Status in “light-themes” package in Ubuntu: > Fix Released > > Bug description: > This bug is fixed in unity-3d since ubuntu 11.04. > It still exists in unity-2d and will never be fixed as unity-2d is no > longer supported since ubuntu 12.10 (see comment #343). > > * > > This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to > earlier releases as well. > > For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012 > unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1). > Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the > window. Public bug reported: Calling gbm_bo_create() with format == GBM_BO_FORMAT_ARGB completes successfully. However reading back the format via gbm_bo_get_format() returns GBM_BO_FORMAT_XRGB. [Bug 1106037] [NEW] Reverse mouse wheel direction in almost apps is invalid.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I need the reverse mouse wheel direction (It means natural scrolling like Mac OS X and the touch Pad and so on.), because I have a touch scroll mouse. I found that this method can achieve some of my thoughts. I use .Xmodmap and I can ! Note that 4 5 and 6 7 are reversed to behave like a table. # ubuntu-tweak also have this feature setting and do like this xinput set-button-map 12 1 2 3 5 4 7 6 8 9 10 11 12 So I found this method can be make the browsers(firefox,Chrome..) use natural scrolling ,this is exactly what I want. but, then found in other almost apps(nautilus,system-settings, ubuntu- software-center, and so on) still the original scrolling direction , that apps don't appears natural scrolling. I have three question need to solve: Why the xinput settings can be valid in the browser apps ,but be invalid in others apps ??? How to solve that can use reverse mouse direction (natural scrolling) in any where ??? I have also confirmed that on Ringtail (and all latest updates) that video over USB on a second universal docking station does not work either. Re: [Bug 1110905] Re: S3 savage support is not working in 12.10 and beyond
The X is screwed up, incorrect display on the screen. There are four large stripes and nothing recognizable when the DM is launched. However the splash screen with lubuntu and the four dots does come up correctly. Immediately after this splash screen, the display is garbled. Yes, similar to the bug you mentioned. The problem was narrowed to xserver-xorg-video-savage. The latest version appears to be the problem. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks for a great OS.
