I started using my employer's OpenVPN today and encountered name
resolution problems. From my research, this here bug appears to be
plaguing me, as well (I'm on 12.10). Commenting the line dns=dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf does fix the problem. However,

Although the issue has been solved it has been through the use of a
workaround, rather than a true fix.
The workaround involves an edit to /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/disable_wol
AS WELL AS installing ethtool. Simply installing ethtool does not in
itself provide a fix for the problem. Somebody with
cweiske is correct, when multiple VPN's are enabled through gnome-
control-center, they are all marked as on in the systray as well. When
enabling a VPN through the systray, it disables the rest. Sounds like an
easy thing to fix... :(

After three hours of uptime with kernel 3.2.0-35 the problem occured as
well.
Given the fact, that the interface was sending data very nicely but lost
about 80% of incoming packets I am more inclined to think that my
hardware has a failure...

you'd like us to try to pinpoint which kernel introduced the issue,
please let me know.

Shouldn't it be possible to patch this at Ubuntu's level ? The Ubuntu
mono icon would be a good replacement, for example.
