 Title:
Postfix does not restart properly when using SSL

Status in “postfix” package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
I was running into a problem where postfix would not start up
correctly after being restarted (either manually, via automated
process, or from reboot). Postfix would always start without its SSL
certs in place (which caused a problem in my configuration); a
subsequent restart would fix it, resulting in a situation where every-
   other-start was successful.

I tracked the problem down to an issue in the init script that copies
the certs from the SSL location to the postfix location. In a
nutshell, it was creating a new directory for holding the copies files
as subdirectory of the target, then deleting the target (including the
new subdirectory), and subsequently failing to copy the new
   directory into the appropriate location.

Patch that fixed the problem is attached.

   Using ubuntu server 12.10

2013-03-02 Thread cyberconte
Just to note, there was also a single character change (from # to %) in the
first line of the patch to change the .NEW from being created as a
subdirectory of the target (and thus removed if new=1 ) to being on the
same level with .NEW appended (so the next mv succeeds)

[Bug 1135403] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression (Intel 945GM) [xorg-edgers]

2013-03-02 Thread PseudoMorph
Chris, Thanks for looking into this and also for your continued updates.

I pulled the changes down this afternoon and although they seem to have
corrected the discolouration issue with my external monitor they have
also introduced new regressions that have led to a loss of 3d rendering
altogether meaning I am no longer able to use any of the desktops that
require 3d acceleration (Unity, Cinnamon, Gnome-Shell).

I'm happy to provide logs do any extra testing req to help get to the
bottom of the issue, you'll just need to point me in the right
direction.

[Bug 1139563] [NEW] No boot time display (blank screen) for ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series in Ubuntu 12.10

2013-03-02 Thread Pav Smirnoff
Public bug reported:

Unstable support for ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series in Ubuntu
12.10.

Issue 1#
Harddisk encryption is enabled, when it boots there are no messages, it goes
to blank screen.
Encryption password prompt is not working (i.e. not even blind entry).
Pressing Ctrl Alt F1 followed by Alt F7 brings about the graphical console
display.

Issue 2#
GL drivers are not available. Very messy, as no acceleration whatsoever.

[Bug 1135403] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression (Intel 945GM) [xorg-edgers]

2013-03-02 Thread Chris Wilson
Sounds like whatever was causing your setup to run in clone mode rather
than as an extended desktop was also fixed (that should have been an
issue caused by something other than -intel). However, libGL does not
support hw acceleration to surfaces larger than 2048 on 945gm and so all
the GL compositors fail miserably if you exceed that pixel count in any
dimension. -intel handles it by using different functions on the GPU
that can cope with the larger surfaces, or by splitting the operations
into small enough chunks for the 3D pipeline - so that it just works.

The prime candidates for the crash all look suspect as they are

[Bug 1133401] Re: Provide separate packages for each major version (clang-3.0, etc)

2013-03-02 Thread Matthias Klose
no, it should not, because GCC does it. Older GCC versions are there
for front ends not available in newer versions, e.g Dv1, Dv2. Ubuntu is
not a software museum, so please give examples why you would need these
old versions, and which software cannot be built with newer versions.

[Bug 1135403] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression (Intel 945GM) [xorg-edgers]

2013-03-02 Thread PseudoMorph
Sorry, I should have added that lack of 3d acceleration is a problem no
matter if I'm using my external monitor (which I usually use as single
display with the laptop monitor off not in extended or clone mode) or
my laptop's built in display.

This means I've not been attempting to push 3d graphics to any area
larger than the highest native resolution the external monitor supports,
and in many cases the much smaller 800x600).

Further symptoms include a compete loss of graphics as soon as gnome
loads when booting a 3.5.0 (Ubuntu) or 3.70 (edgers) kernel. The same is
not a problem when booting a 3.8.0 custom compiled kernel.

Is this likely to a but in something other that -intel should I be
opening a new bug on these new issues with 3d acceleration?

[Bug 677783] Re: Redshift does not quit upon logout from session

2013-03-02 Thread David Foerster
Hm, the patch was definitely applied correctly and python would usually
recompile outdated object files.
You probably did, but I'm asking just to make sure: did you terminate the old
remaining processes redshift and gtk-redshift, and install python-prctl,
the dependency introduced by the patch? Does gtk-redshift spill any interesting
messages when run from command line?

[Bug 830677] Re: Volume meters take too much CPU

2013-03-02 Thread Jarno Suni
The CPU usage is unacceptable. See the image. If I quit pavucontrol, CPU
usage of pulseaudio drops to rough 10% and CPU usage of X drops to
around 1.5%. No wonder why people feel they need faster computers, when
volume control utility is that heavy.

[Bug 1139636] [NEW] fglrx drivers freeze Xorg

2013-03-02 Thread Le Gluon Du Net
Public bug reported:

Sometimes Xorg freeze, I can no more move the mouse or open a virtual TTY
(ctrl-alt-Fn).
But I can access to a terminal by ssh and see Xorg process at 100%.
If I try to kill Xorg or Lightdm or gnome-session, that does nothing, my screen
is still freezed, I can not kill Xorg.
All I can do is reboot the computer.
It's the Fourth time I have this bug and apport-gtk do not report it.
So I joined the result of a of dmesg command wich contains a dump result.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 998204] Re: Intel chipset driver bug on Ubuntu certified Dell Latitude E5420: connecting power cord makes kworker run amok

2013-03-02 Thread fabien c
Hi,
I have the same laptop at work (E5420) and the same bug, but it's nothing
compared to the Samsung NP-R530-JA06FR :
The Dell is lagging only when battery is charging, the bug on the Samsung is
random, so it's unusable.
I tried Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, amd64 and i386 versions, xubuntu 12.04, the last
3.8.1 kernel and many others. Same results.

The origin of the lag seems to be the same for the two laptops : Intel I²C

Is there a way to fix this, even by disabling something like autodetection of
external screens?
I tried Option HotPlug off in xorg.conf but it's not enough.

[Bug 512190] Re: apt-get --ignore-missing install fails when it can't find a package

2013-03-02 Thread Daniel Hartwig
It is clear from the man page that ‘--ignore-missing’ is intended only
for packages that exist but fail to download correctly or can not be
downloaded at the time. Requesting a package that does not exist is
well outside the scope of this option and is an unsafe operation to
simply ignore.

The former is typically due to transient network errors that clear up in
a short time. The later is a seriously broken request.

[Bug 1139712] [NEW] Not possible to get audio output via internal speakers, when plug is inserted in heaphone jack

2013-03-02 Thread Jarno Suni
Public bug reported:

Note: not using pulseaudio

I have a mixer for speakers in alsamixer, but it is not effective, when
a plug is inserted in headphone jack.

I want this to happen:
Speaker mixer should be effective in alsamixer always. It should be
configurable, what happens to internal speaker sound, when a plug is inserted
in headphone jack.

BTW. I tried pulseaudio, but it does not work there either. It is even
more confusing and there are also other issues why I am not using
pulseaudio.

[Bug 1135403] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression (Intel 945GM) [xorg-edgers]

2013-03-02 Thread Chris Wilson
This is getting weirder:

[16.025] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x800 on crtc 4 (pipe 1)
[16.025] (EE) intel(0): get_fb: failed to add fb: 1280x800 depth=15,
bpp=16, pitch=4096: 22
[16.025] (WW) intel(0): failed to restore desired modes on VT switch
[16.025] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1280x800 on crtc 4 (pipe 1)
[16.025] (EE) intel(0): get_fb: failed to add fb: 1280x800 depth=15,
bpp=16, pitch=4096: 22

Can you append drm.debug=6 to your kernel command line (grub) and then
attach the dmesg from another failed boot.

[Bug 1139759] [NEW] DSL can not connected automatically

2013-03-02 Thread Chengkinhung
Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu,

I just install a new ubuntu desktop 12.10 64bit from ISO image, but the
DSL can not connect automatically when the computer start up.

There is only one interface eth0 on my computer, and this interface
connected to DSL device directly with PPPOE(need username and password).
I open the Network Connection, and found there is one interface named
Auto Ethernet under the tab Wired, and another interface named DSL
connection 1 under the tab DSL.

I had already config the DSL correctly, and check the Connect
automatically on this DSL connection settings, and also connect
successfully when I manually connect it.

But the DSL can not connect automatically when my computer restart, I
notice the Networking is always searching and tring the Wired network
interface(eth0 - Auto Ethernet), and after failure it will retry the
Wired again, just do not try to connect the DSL interface.

When I disable the Networking and re-enable the Networking, it will try
to connect the DSL interface and will connect successfully.

I had also try to disable the Auto Ethernet's Connect automatically,
and disable IPv4/IPv6 Settings, even try to delete the Auto Ethernet,
but nothing help.

In this same computer, I am before using the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit,
there is not this problem, DSL can connect successfull every time when
the computer start.

Please help.

Thanks very much.

Jason Cheng.

[Bug 1090548] Re: package linux-image-3.5.0-19-generic 3.5.0-19.30 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2013-03-02 Thread Allan Dawson
Firstly, my apologies for the delay commenting back about this bug. I
have had a busier than normal few months studying for pilot school and
since I have three operating systems on this machine, if one of them
isnt working when I'm busy I tend to just make do with one of the others
until I have time to come back to the problem, hence the delay!

I tried the suggestion put forward by Joseph (thanks for that) back in
December but it didnt clear the problem. I keep getting the same issue
each time 12.10 tries to self update. I tried resubmitting the problem
today and the system declined to submit the report because I had already
reported it... I think that is a pretty neat feature, so complements to
the developers for implementing a common sense reporting path that
works!

Anyway back to the problem. I still have the same issue with this core
package failing to update. Since I originally reported the issue, some
things have updated and some things haven't so what I will do right now
is attempt Joseph's cleanup command lines again and I will report back
in the next 15 minutes or so whether the problem resolved.

back shortly...

Al

[Bug 950963] Re: some packages fail to build because of missing libcuda1

2013-03-02 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

- [SRU] I intend to provide SRU patches for each of the packages that are
- missing libcuda1, but first need the followng:
+ [SRU] Debdiffs attached for fixing the FTBFS in Precise for the following
packages:
+ nvidia-cuda-toolkit (patch in comment #17)
+ starpu-contrib (patch in comment #18)
+ viennacl (patch in comment #19)

+ [IMPACT]
+ Packages fail to build from source on Precise because of missing libcuda1 or
missing libopencl1. In Ubuntu, nvidia-current satisfies these dependencies,
although not explicitly.
+
+ [Test Cases]
+ Verify that nvidia-cuda-toolkit, starpu-contrib and viennacl are able to
build.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None: packages currently do not build from source.
+
+
+ The following SRU has been completed, thank you.
  nvidia-graphics-drivers (patch in comment #13):
[SRU] The attached debdiff backports a single change from
nvidia-graphics-drivers 304.51.really.304.43-0ubuntu1 in Quantal to Precise so
that packages that Build-Depend on nvidia-current can be built. Currently,
nvidia-current fails to install without its recommended dependency
nvidia-settings.

  [IMPACT]
When attempting to build packages that Build-Depends on nvidia-current for
Precise, the build servers are unable to install nvidia-current and the build
fails.

  [Test Cases]
Upload any source package that Build-Depends on nvidia-current; e.g.
nvidia-cuda-toolkit, starpu-contrib or viennacl, to the PPA builders targeted
for Precise.

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal: the change only affects the installation of the nvidia-current and
none of the packages that Build-Depend on it can currently build.

  Original bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04
  nvidia-graphics-drivers 295.20-0ubuntu1

In Ubuntu, nvidia-graphics-drivers package provides only nvidia-current
and nvidia-current-dev, while the Debian's package provides many
  separated deb packages as follows:

  libcuda1
  libcuda1-dev
  libcuda1-ia32
  libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
  libgl1-nvidia-alternatives-ia32
  libgl1-nvidia-glx
  libgl1-nvidia-glx-ia32
  libglx-nvidia-alternatives
  libnvidia-compiler
  libnvidia-compiler-ia32
  libnvidia-compiler1
  libnvidia-compiler1-ia32
  nvidia-glx
  nvidia-glx-dev
  nvidia-glx-ia32
  nvidia-kernel-dkms
  nvidia-kernel-source
  nvidia-libopencl1
  nvidia-libopencl1-dev
  nvidia-libopencl1-ia32
  nvidia-libvdpau-dev
  nvidia-libvdpau1
  nvidia-libvdpau1-ia32
  nvidia-opencl-common
  nvidia-opencl-icd
  nvidia-opencl-icd-ia32
  nvidia-smi
  nvidia-vdpau-driver
  nvidia-vdpau-driver-ia32

So, some packages imported from Debian cannot be built or not
installable unless their dependencies are modified. For example,
nvidia-cuda-toolkit is failed to build because of missing libcuda1. See
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-cuda-
  toolkit/4.0.17-3/+build/3079987 .

I think the separate packages should be provided as in Debian and
nvidia-current and nvidia-current-dev should be changed to meta packages
which depend on those separate packages.

[Bug 1130920] Re: audio glitches when trying to play

2013-03-02 Thread relgames
Sorry for misunderstanding, I thought that question was about Ubuntu
installation. Openshot was installed from Ubuntu repos, not from usb
stick.

Anyway, I managed to solve the problem. It was because of melt/libmlt, I had
the same issue in kdenlive.
melt was unable to correctly process Audio: pcm_u8, 11024 Hz, 1 channels, u8,
88 kb/s audio format.
I converted the sound stream for all videos it to pcm_s16le, 22050 Hz, 1
channels, s16, 352 kb/s and glitches are gone!

[Bug 1139803] [NEW] Software updater hangs/stops responding when clicking an update that has lots of version changes

2013-03-02 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

When viewing available updates, if I click on an update that has lots of
version changes, then update manager will hang for a while/not respond.
It will then come available again. I have noticed this a few times with
raring

This only happens when clicking updates with lots of version changes, it
does not do it with others. I assume it's taking a while to handle/load
the changes.

This tends to happen with linux kernel updates as they contain a lot fo
changes. Also Python3 today. I will leave a comment with the number of
version changes that seem to cause the issue. Of course you will need to
wait for a large update to reproduce.

(I have an i7 processor so it's not slowing due to slow hardware)

[Bug 1127913] Re: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend

2013-03-02 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Please close this bug. The problem either has been fixed with a kernel update
or was caused by a memory hog process..

[Bug 1137701] Re: ATI card not recognized after latest apt-get upgrade

2013-03-02 Thread udippel
So, I don't know if the command actually brought up what we were hoping
for?

Yep, nvidia did some things on February 28th, though I have no good clue what
that was.
$ ls -lt /var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3984 Feb 28 10:13
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-settings.list
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8033 Feb 28 10:12 /var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.list
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 144 Nov 8 09:49 /var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-common.list

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10554 Oct 6 04:58

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root43 Oct 6 04:58
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.conffiles
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9334 Oct 6 04:58
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.postinst
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1511 Oct 6 04:58
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.postrm
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10655 Oct 6 04:58
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.preinst
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1190 Oct 6 04:58

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 417 Oct 6 04:58
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-current.shlibs

I can imagine that there was a screw-up by dkms, since it installed an
upgraded kernel?

[Bug 1139803] Re: Software updater hangs/stops responding when clicking an update that has lots of version changes

2013-03-02 Thread Adam Bruce
I guess this would only really effect development users as final
releases wouldn 't contain so many changes? So maybe a low priority,
although it should be handled better in an ideal world

[Bug 677783] Re: Redshift does not quit upon logout from session

2013-03-02 Thread Jon Lund Steffensen
I've been working on an update for gtk-redshift to be able to provide
more information to the user. That has meant that I've had to rewrite
most of the process management code and for that reason I'm not sure how
this discussion applies any more. If you want to take a look the code is
here: https://github.com/jonls/redshift/tree/interactive-gui . A sigterm
handler is installed and it seems to take care of shutting down the
child process properly. However, even with a SIGKILL the child process
seems to be shut down seemingly contrary to what David said in #4.
