I could be misunderstanding the problem here, I think we've had trouble with the 32/63 thing in other respects too, such as getting corrupted disk images when someone uses something other than parted (or uses parted but doesn't change the sector size) to resize the partitions. That's a design decision of Gio. It aborts with an assertion error if you try to load an invalid example. Public bug reported: Hi I am testing the daily builds of 13.04 raring ringtail on a AMD desktop with a Radeon 5750 graphics card and a dual monitor setup (normal monitor and a HD-tv, both 1080p) When using the binary drivers, fglrx or fglrx-updates I can set overscan values in the catalyst control center and everything looks fine, but when I reboot the system does not actualluy use the choosen overscan values and the desktop does not fill the entire screen any longer. The values choosen in the control center are still shown correctly in the control center, but just not used when starting the desktop. This problem does not exist in the open source drivers (but in turn they ahve HDMI sound issues, but that is another bug :)). This problem also also appeared in the 12.10 beta. It seems the odd characters do in fact have a valid UTF-8 encoding, but for some reason they have been encoded incorrectly. I was able to fix them as follows: cat /var/lib/dpkg/status | iconv -c -f utf-8 -t utf-8 /tmp/status.fixed cat /var/lib/dpkg/available | iconv -c -f utf-8 -t utf-8 /tmp/available.fixed Now you still have to replace the originals with the fixed copies. In my case, there were about 100 offending packages: hwdata (Noël Köthe - Noël Köthe) shared-mime-info (Sebastian Dröge - Sebastian Dröge) glines ... There's no such thing as a virtio-blk CD-ROM, only hard-disks. For installation it shouldn't matter, since .iso images usually can work also as hard-disk images (for putting them on a USB stick). Hello, First of all, this bug does not exist currently because the following commit was reverted from ATK source: https://git.gnome.org/browse/atk/commit/?id=7ebaa51b17fbca385d9d1f3dd026bd4770852d9b So in order to close this bug, either 1. Leave the code as is and put a comment in ATK source not to call atk_object_get_name() from atk_object_set_name() to avoid future reappearance of this bug, or 2. Change Mozilla's accessible/src/atk/AccessibleWrap.cpp to avoid the problem. I am going to attach a patch for that here shortly.
