[Bug 1168757] [NEW] nova-compute missing dependency on nova-conductor

2013-04-13 Thread Blair Zajac
Public bug reported:

I did an upgrade from quantal to raring today which upgraded OpenStack
to Grizzly and saw these messages in /var/log/nova/nova-compute.log:

2013-04-13 12:42:37.104 WARNING nova.conductor.api

I manually did an 'apt-get install nova-conductor' and these messages
disappeared. Also, before installing nova-conductor I was unable to
launch a VM.

[Bug 1168526] Re: race condition causing lxc to not detect container init process exit

2013-04-13 Thread Pavel Bennett
I should add that these forwarded signal 2 lines are due to me
pressing Ctrl+C and are not actually relevant.

Have you been able to repro this bug on kernel 3.8.6?

I'm thinking how to fix this as lxc_spawn is what gets the pid which is
needed by lxc_poll to listen for SIGCHLD from the correct pid, but
lxc_poll should logically go before lxc_spawn to avoid this race.

How about starting lxc_poll first in a queueing mode, so it just
accumulates the signals but doesn't process them yet? When handler-pid
= lxc_clone(do_start, handler, handler-clone_flags); returns, notify
lxc_poll of the pid, thus it should now have all the info it needs,
switching it out of queueing mode and initiating a loop to process the
queued events now that the pid is known.

[Bug 1131616] Re: In ThinkPad X230 after standby and before AC plugged ethernet not working

2013-04-13 Thread Mr.Gosh
The Bug is till Present.
Now I know why I thought it isn't during the last Test. The Connections doesn't
get Lost if you unplug AC. If you unplug Network and replug it - it doesn't
get reconnected...

So - The Bug is still Present...

[Bug 757242] Re: Memory corruption when inserting usb 3 uas device

2013-04-13 Thread Subhendu Malakar
Somehow this looks like the same problem i'm having now.
I have a 1TB external hard disk drive which has usb3.0 port. many a times, it
doesn't detect my hard disk and after plugging it out, the computer freezes due
to high cpu usage by rsyslogd and kworker. surfing the net found out that this
is caused by the uas module. checked via usb-devices and found that's true.
after plugging out the device, rsyslogd writes this in infinite loop:

cmd urb submission failed

how to disable uas module permanently?

[Bug 1166916] Re: temperature overheating probably radeon

2013-04-13 Thread codeslinger
okay, here is the data you have been waiting for...

but first thing to know is that I have put my laptop on a stand to
increase airflow, thus it's over-all temperature is now about 3 degrees
cooler than the above observations. none-the-less even with better
airflow it still hit 96c and climbing, at 100% load, before I stopped
it.

I wrote a program to record the temperature and cpu load data, which I
will attach below. But let me just give you the bottom line here.

There is no difference between running the generic kernel and the low
latency kernel.

There is minor difference between 10.10 and 12.04

There is a huge difference between 12.04 and 12.10.

On 12.10 I tried both low latency and generic, I also tried all 3 of the
available video drivers. I did not see any signifigant difference with
any of these combinations.

Since I no longer have 12.10 installed I can't show you the data.
However the preformance of 12.10 is essentially identical to 13.04 and
I do have the data for 13.04. Except that on 13.04 when I tried to
install alternate video drivers it hung. So I could only test with the
xorg driver.

Temperature preformance of 12.04 is a little bit higher than 10.10 but
is satisfactory. On the other hand 12.10 and 13.04 are dramatically
hotter. Under max load 12.04 never gets above 82c, under light load it
is typically in the low 60's. By contrast, 12.10 and 13.04 seldom get
cooler than 80c and easily reach the 90s. Which is dangerously close to
hardware destruction.

[Bug 1155838]

2013-04-13 Thread Chris Wilson
So what I thought might have been happening was that we reused an
incorrectly sized cached framebuffer. Not so sure after reading
i915_gem_framebuffer. However, I've implemented a defense against using
the wrong framebuffer size:

commit 9dae6f9f1f169c228929185a8bd94e82afe92574
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Fri Apr 12 11:01:08 2013 +0100

sna: Flush the scanout cache after resizing the display

And ensure that any new scanout allocations make the requested size.

It will be worth updating xf86-video-intel.git and seeing if that makes
any difference (will be in ppa:xorg-edgers in a few hours).

13.04 beta 2 Generic 64 bit - idle to max to idle - temperature and cpu

general impression is that teh generic might be slightly cooler than low
latency, but not a significant difference.

again. once it hit the 90's I shut down the load.

also I did some prolonged idleing at the start because it was still
cooling down from the prvious test.

[Bug 1166916] Re: temperature overheating probably radeon

2013-04-13 Thread codeslinger
2 further thoughts...

on 12.10 I also tried the 32 bit low latency kernel with similar high
temperatures.

on 13.04 during prolonged idle I noticed an interesting behavior;

when starting from cool... and running at idle, it heats up to 79c at
which point the fan kicks into high gear, it then cools back down to
about 75c where the temperature stabilizes.

You can see this in the data, just know that there was no change in
load, it was idle the whole time. But the fan got quite a bit louder.

[Bug 1167114] Re: Ubuntu Kernel 3.5.0-27 does not boot

2013-04-13 Thread Petr Gladkikh
If I open GRUB menu before booting sometimes kernel boots successfully
(I am writing this on it). Successful dmesg is in attachment.

When I boot default configuration system stalls with blank screen (however
crtl+alt+del works).
If I boot recovery mode option system stops with last boot messages in text
mode.

Boot output screenshots are here

Note that there is some call trace in first three screens.

[Bug 830663] Re: default window size is too small

2013-04-13 Thread ~suv
Patch 'fix-bug-830663.patch' tested on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.48+devel
r12274:
- GTK+/X11 2.24.13, XQuartz 2.7.4 (xorg-server 1.13.0)
- GTK+/Quartz 2.24.17, (native Quartz backend)

Patch works as expected, though the results vary depending on GTK+
backend / Window manager / GTK+ version (I'm not sure which component is
to blame): launching Inkscape with new (default) prefs and default
template, any new empty document window is maximized immediately.

Details:
- With the X11-based build, the document window can be de-maximized using the
buttons in the windows decoration, and it resizes to the minimal window size it
originally has (i.e. without the patch).

- With the Quartz-based build, the maximized document window cannot be
de-maximized at all: the document window is opened with window
widthheight set to max values, but without setting the 'inkscape
:window-maximized' value to 1 in namedview. This is annoying since
users who dislike 'maximized' view have to manually resize each new
document window by grabbing dragging one of the edges (OS X = 10.7)
or the bottom-right corner (Mac OS X = 10.6.8) - requiring much more
efforts than the current state without patch.

Likely the patch exposes an underlying issue in the interaction between
Inkscape and certain window managers.

opinion
'Maximize' and 'De-maximize' of a maximized Inkscape document window on OS X -
be it under X11 or with the native backend - has never worked reliably for me,
which might have contributed to me being opposed to defaulting to open in a
maximized state as default setting. Personally, I'm still opposed to such a
default, but won't argue for my POV anymore, since based on the reaction to my
earlier comments (outside the bug tracker), a majority of users seems to prefer
this.

[Bug 1168612] [NEW] display graphics info for nvidia blob

2013-04-13 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Currently no graphics card info is show for nvidia blob.

This is fallout from the glxinfo replacement patch, and since that has
been backported, I imagine it will be broken in 3.6 g-c-c also.

get this backported before next weeks final freeze.

[Bug 1157864] Re: Requests to https server can yield WantReadError

2013-04-13 Thread Adam Gandelman
Sina-

The propose patch did not get accepted for merging into python-
glanceclient and has since been abandoned/expired. The issue is still
unresolved upstream so you should not expect a fix to make its way out
via Ubuntu or the Ubuntu Cloud Archive until the bug has been addressed
in the upstream project.

It seems there was disagreement as to whether this should be fixed the
client library or the core project itself (glance, nova, etc). If it
ends up being resolved in nova, you can expect a fix to make its way out
to respective packages via an Ubuntu SRU based on the upstream
stable/grizzly branch. If a fix makes its way into the client library,
we should consider back-porting a patch to the current client version in
13.04 and grizzly Cloud Archive pocket, since client libraries have no
stable upstream branches.

boots every time.

(Leaving aside that my wireless mouse does not work, text consoles

config changed during it's installation) version

[Bug 1163651] Re: Gnome shell crashed with apport complaining about lack of memory to automatically analyse the problem

2013-04-13 Thread Sary Muhammad
** Description changed:

this machine is a Dell inspiron 1520 , with 2 GB of RAM , and 200 HDD .

running ubuntu 13.04 up to date, left the machine for 30 minutes and
screen lock is set to ON!, unlocked the screen then fired up totem to
watch a movie , after a couple minutes the following message showed up :

Sorry, the program gnome-shell closed unexpectedly Your computer does
not have enough free memory to automatically analyse the problem and
send a report to the developers.

then, X was terminated and drop back to the login manager .. logged
back in, and the same popup message appeared again , so my suspicion was
that it might be an abnormal CPU usage thought it could be Chromium!,
so i've switched to firefox opened the same webpages as it's showing on
  the following screen shot /

  http://imgur.com/KCrZGRj

but the abnormal usage kept going back and forth between Xorg and Gnome
  shell reached %60 - 76 CPU usage !

not a wish list issue. Developers have removed that from CCSM
voluntarily. So it a regression - lost of functionality. Please, restore

[Bug 1168618] [NEW] mouse cursor size setting has no impact on the default cursor size in most apps

2013-04-13 Thread Alterlife
Public bug reported:

Replication:

1. Run xfce4-settings-manager
2. Select Mouse and Touchpad
3. Select the Theme tab
4. Change the cursor size from 24 to 48.

Expected Result: The cursor size should change to double.

Actual result:
1. The default pointer size doesn't change.
2. The mouse-over cursor size does as expected change to double
ex: mouse over the cursor size input box and you'll see a double
sized text selection cursor.
3. The cursor size in some apps (example, Firefox) does change as expected.

[Bug 887793] Re: Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

2013-04-13 Thread Andrea
I am experiencing the same bug on my Samsung RC-530-S07 laptop running Xubuntu
12.10 64bit. It seems the problem began when I replaced the HDD with a OCZ
Vertex 4 SSD and replaced the optical drive with the HDD. I also enabled the
SATA GEN3 mode in the BIOS.
The workaround provided some posts before (disable GPE13) works for me too
The bug related to this one in the kernel bug tracking system id this:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53071 and not the 43013 referenced
on the information at the top of this page. Can someone update the reference?

[Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected

2013-04-13 Thread madbiologist
PRIME multi-GPU support was added to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1.0.2.
See http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTE4MzA

When using this driver in conjunction with xserver 1.13 it should no
longer be necessary to use Bumblebee.

If you need the NVIDIA GPU to scan-out what is being rendered (drawn) by
the Intel chip (such as if the machine's only display connector is wired
to the NVIDIA GPU), you will also need the reverse PRIME support
described at http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTI5NDU

See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau for
the driver version available in each Ubuntu release.

[Bug 655831] Re: update-apt-xapian-index bogs down system

2013-04-13 Thread Hontvári József Levente
Max Polk has a good analysis. Partly to help google, I would add that on a
Quantal 64 bit server installed with Install a minimal virtual machine option
and 256 MB RAM, the command (simulating the cron job)
  sudo /usr/sbin/update-apt-xapian-index -v -f
results in an additional 300 MB RAM usage (100 MB from swap).

I noticed this issue because almost every day I receive a mail from CRON saying:
  /etc/cron.daily/apt:
  Killed

Looking at syslog, the kernel frequently kills it:
Apr 13 10:37:43 regmail1 kernel: [325133.105582] select 1 (init), adj 0, size
167, to kill
Apr 13 10:37:43 regmail1 kernel: [325133.105592] select 625 (java), adj 0, size
15923, to kill
Apr 13 10:37:43 regmail1 kernel: [325133.105596] select 3915 (update-apt-xapi),
adj 0, size 36048, to kill
Apr 13 10:37:43 regmail1 kernel: [325133.105598] send sigkill to 3915
(update-apt-xapi), adj 0, size 36048

Obviously the indexing algorithm which was chosen is either extremely
RAM hungry, or the implementation has a bug.

[Bug 1167107] Re: linux-headers-3.8.0-14-lowlatency won't allow virtualbox modules to build

2013-04-13 Thread Kaj Ailomaa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1165259 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165259

I think probably what fixed your problem was that you installed generic
headers, and then the links from -lowlatency headers wold work. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lowlatency/+bug/1165259.

The fix only landed with 3.8.0-18. But, I'll just assume the header
linkage fix also fixed your problem, and will mark this as a duplicate.

I have an old acer aspire 3000 with sis 1039:6330. So, I configured the
file xorg.conf with command sudo Xorg -configure and after that I
copied the new xorg.conf file into /etc/X11. So now I can boot in
lubuntu but I have low resolution 640x480. The only way to have the
right resolution for my laptop is when I boot into recovery mode and
after that I choose resume normal boot from recovery mode. Then the
resolution is right 1024x768. It is very strange. Sorry for my english.

[Bug 1168631] [NEW] Cursor jumps around sometimes when using multiple fingers.

2013-04-13 Thread Gerrit Addiks
Public bug reported:

I'm using an Apple Magic Trackpad for quite a while now. In 12.10 it has
worked like a charm, but after upgrading to 13.04 it started to jump my
cursor around sometimes.

For example: When scrolling in firefox, it gets done by first putting
two fingers on the pad and pulling them down. The content scrolls
correctly. But when i then remove my fingers from the pad and put them
at the top again, it instantly scrolls back to where it was before,
which kind of defeats the purpose of scrolling.

Another example: Before the upgrade, it was possible to drag the
scrollbar-handle (or a file) with one finger and when the finger reached
the end of the pad, i could simply put a second finger on the pad and
continue dragging with that finger. But after the upgrade the cursor
jumps around the screen as soon as the second finger hits the pad.

I'm not sure if it is related, but sometimes the whole graphic session
crashes and drops me to the login-screen when using multiple fingers on
the trackpad.

I'm willing to provide debug information, test patched packages and do
thinks like that if it helps fixing the bug.

[Bug 1164485] Re: update-manger launches to Wrong Desktop

2013-04-13 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
This bug has gotten worse. Now the workaround I mentioned above doesn't
even work.

If I'm on workspace 3, and I try to launch update-manager, it will open
into another workspace that I'm not even viewing.

An application launched from a particular workspace should launch into
that workspace and NOT to one that is not visible.

[Bug 1168632] [NEW] Preferences page unloads all plugins, making desktop ugly and unusable

2013-04-13 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Raring, start CompizConfig Settings Manager, then click
Preferences in the left column. Unity and all window decorations will
immediately disappear, leaving an ugly and pretty much unusable desktop.
.xsession-errors reveals that all Compiz plugins are unloading, causing
the breakage. They don't reload even if you close the Preferences page.

[Bug 1165535] Re: Wobbly Windows won't work although turned on in 13.04 b2

2013-04-13 Thread Dallman Ross
I keep hoping updates in daily builds will suddenly cause Wobbly Windows
to work, but so far -- no.

Graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4350. Rarin' enabled it with a Gallium
0.4 on AMD RV 710 graphics driver.

In Quantal, which I also installed from scratch and which is still
bootable on this computer, the graphics driver is unknown, and yet
Wobbly Windows work. They also work fine in Precise, which, likewise, is
still bootable on this machine. Precise was an in-place upgrade from
earlier releases, however. And Precise still supported this graphics
card fully, while by the time of Quantal it was called deprecated.

[Bug 1165239] Re: visual response of buttons

2013-04-13 Thread Ads20000
Hardly a bug though, surely it should be 'Invalid' rather than
'Triaged'?

[Bug 1168636] [NEW] compiz resets active plugin list on every login

2013-04-13 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

I'm on Ubuntu Raring. To see the problem:

1. Start CompizConfig Settings Manager and enable a new plugin, e.g. the JPEG
image loading plugin.
2. The plugin will be loaded in compiz (as you can see in .xsession-errors).
3. Log out and log back in.
4. The plugin you enabled will not be loaded any more.

When you enable the plugin in CompizConfig it gets added to
~/.config/compiz-1/compizconfig/unity.ini. It appears that on every
login this file gets overwritten with a default set of plugins, so the
extra plugin is lost.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1163651] Re: Gnome shell crashed with apport complaining about lack of memory to automatically analyse the problem

2013-04-13 Thread Sary Muhammad
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected gnome3-ppa third-party-packages
