[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2013-04-28 Thread David Henningsson
Ok, let's look again at this bug.

First, unfortunately bug 1169984 made it into the 13.04 release, which
hits many machines with HDMI audio. So any problems in 13.04 is likely
to be bug 1169984.

Second, there is a patch "ALSA: hda - hdmi: Make jacks phantom, if
they're not detectable" that hopefully fixes most of these errors.

What I recommend at this point (to get the above fix without getting bug
1169984 ) is to install the latest HDA driver and reboot (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS ).

If this helps, you're likely being helped by the next proposed kernel in
13.04 too.

If this does not help, you can do the following:
 * Install the hda-jack-retask package from
https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/hda
 * Start the program (run "hda-jack-retask" in a terminal).
 * Select the HDMI codec in the topmost combobox. (If you have more than one,
and don't know which one is right, you might have to repeat the below steps for
all codecs.)
 * Select "Advanced override"
 * On the HDMI pin that does not show up, click "override", then change "Jack
detection" from "Present" to "Not present".
 * You can then either click "Apply now" and test this right away, or click
"Install boot override" and reboot to test.

Regardless of this is working or not, report back here and attach alsa-
info ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo ).

Thanks!

[Bug 1166442] Re: Elantech clickpad/touchpad lacks multitouch features.

2013-04-28 Thread data
I have the same problem as Julien. This is on a Samsung 900x3e a01.
Same error message in dmesg, same output when running synclient and no
mentioning of synaptics in the xorg.0.log.

[Bug 1174184] [NEW] Ethernet is not working when laptop is on battery power

2013-04-28 Thread vilbara
Public bug reported:

Ethernet network connection stopped to work when notebook is running on
battery power on my Lenovo T430s notebook after the upgrade from 12.10
to 13.04.

Ethernet network connection becomes available immediatelly when power
adapter is attached. Wireless network works fine with and without power
adapter attached.

Seems like other people are having this too:

[Bug 1173527] Re: make the i386 *buntu version check for UEFI

2013-04-28 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
64bit computers can run 32bit version of ubuntu. To show warnings, we
need to boot. If the 32bit image managed to boot, the system in question
does support legacy boot and it is active / being used. Therefore there
is no reason for installation to fail. If on the other hand the cd does
not boot, one would assume something is odd and we would not be able to
show a warning =) Therefore this bug report is in my opinion invalid.

[Bug 1174177] [NEW] goldendict on x86_64 gives "Query error: basic_string::erase" after upgrade to 1.0.2~git20120929-3

2013-04-28 Thread booble
Public bug reported:

When I was using Ubuntu 12.10 with all updates installed goldendict worked fine.
After upgrade to 13.04 (goldendict version 1.0.2~git20120929-3) I receive
Query error: basic_string::erase
error for every dictionary in which result of a search is found instead of the
article.
I didn't change dictionaries after upgrade, so only application version has
changed.

Here is a discussion on Debian lists:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=691891

It seems that problem affects only x86_64 version and trivial patch is
ready for it.

[Bug 1173941] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 doesn't start/ show login screen/ after intallation or upgrade

2013-04-28 Thread aschalk
Booting without custom GRUB_GFX* settings, and without the 'splash'
option also works.

There are some differences with these two methods.

With my method, on top left of the screen the cursor is flashing for ~10
seconds and the xubuntu splash screen is shown for short right before
the login screen.

With your method, the screen is gray for ~10 seconds an then some boot
messages appear right before the login screen.

[Bug 1174169] [NEW] Minimum and maximum cpu frequency are equal

2013-04-28 Thread Atanas Atanasov
Public bug reported:

I just noticed my laptop stared working considerably slower. I am using
an updated 13.04, though the issue did not start right after the
upgrade. After tracking down the issue I noticed that both processors
operate at 800 MHz instead of the maximum 1800 MHz. Irrespective of the
load, the frequency remains 800. Here are some stats:

$ cpufreq-info
cpufrequtils 008: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2009

  available frequency steps: 1.80 GHz, 1.60 GHz, 800 MHz

Note the "current policy" says the frequency is between 800 and 800
irrespective of the hardware limits. The original governor was
"ondemand", so I changed it to "performance" in order to see if that
makes a difference which it didn't. No amount of invoking cpufreq-set or
cpufreq-selector changes the frequency.

Looking around, I noticed several people reported similar issues in the
past though no favorable answer exists. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

[Bug 1174148] Re: Can't build a raring VM

2013-04-28 Thread I_Am
Copied /usr/share/pyshared/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/quantal.py  to
/usr/share/pyshared/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/raring.py

Then replaced quantal with raring inside raring.py

After that I linked
/usr/share/pyshared/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/raring.py to
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/raring.py

That seamed to work, but I encounter Bug #1037607. I added --addpkg
linux-image-generic to my command line, and the machine build and ran
fine.

[Bug 1172091] Re: KVM guests with bridged network drops out intermittently

2013-04-28 Thread Dyson Simmons
Apologies Serge, I wasn't sure how upstream you wanted me to go.

after installing a few new dependencies I compiled 1.4.1 with:

./configure '--target-list=x86_64-softmmu i386-softmmu x86_64-linux-user
i386-linux-user' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-confsuffix=/qemu' '--
datadir=/usr/share' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--libexecdir=/usr/lib'
'--extra-cflags=-g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4
-Wformat -Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -Wall' '--extra-
ldflags=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro' '--disable-strip'
'--disable-xen' '--disable-guest-agent' '--audio-drv-
list=pa,alsa,sdl,oss' '--enable-docs' '--audio-card-list=ac97 es1370
sb16 cs4231a adlib gus hda' '--enable-attr' '--enable-bluez' '--enable-
brlapi' '--enable-curl' '--enable-curses' '--disable-libiscsi'
'--enable-linux-aio' '--disable-opengl' '--enable-rbd' '--enable-sdl'
'--disable-smartcard-nss' '--enable-uuid' '--disable-usb-redir'
'--enable-vhost-net' '--enable-virtfs' '--enable-vnc' '--enable-vnc-
jpeg' '--enable-vnc-png' '--enable-vnc-sasl' '--enable-vnc-tls'
'--enable-xfsctl' '--enable-kvm' '--disable-blobs'

('--disable-smartcard' is no longer an option)

And I still have the same issue.

I also grabbed the head of master which was commit
903ce9fefacd828bbcadd656ddaed8984139be29 and compiled with:

./configure '--target-list=x86_64-softmmu i386-softmmu x86_64-linux-user
i386-linux-user' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-confsuffix=/qemu' '--
datadir=/usr/share' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--libexecdir=/usr/lib'
'--extra-cflags=-g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4
-Wformat -Werror=format-security -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -Wall' '--extra-
ldflags=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions -Wl,-z,relro' '--disable-strip'
'--disable-xen' '--disable-guest-agent' '--audio-drv-
list=pa,alsa,sdl,oss' '--enable-docs' '--audio-card-list=ac97 es1370
sb16 cs4231a adlib gus hda' '--enable-attr' '--enable-bluez' '--enable-
brlapi' '--enable-curl' '--enable-curses' '--disable-libiscsi'
'--enable-linux-aio' '--enable-rbd' '--enable-sdl' '--disable-smartcard-
nss' '--enable-uuid' '--disable-usb-redir' '--enable-vhost-net'
'--enable-virtfs' '--enable-vnc' '--enable-vnc-jpeg' '--enable-vnc-png'
'--enable-vnc-sasl' '--enable-vnc-tls' '--enable-xfsctl' '--enable-kvm'
'--disable-blobs'

('--disable-smartcard' '--disable-opengl' options are removed)

and still have the same issue.

I set up two scripts to get he output you wanted when it happens:
--

#!/bin/bash

while true
do
  ping -c 1 -W 1 203.0.141.2 > /dev/null 2>&1
  if [[ $? != 0 ]]; then
ifconfig -a && brctl show && arp -n && netstat -nr
exit
  fi
  sleep 0.1
done

and

#!/bin/bash

ssh 203.0.141.2
if [[ $? != 0 ]]; then
  ifconfig -a && brctl show && arp -n && netstat -nr
fi

Both reported the following

make this a duplicate of the old bug, else no one will pay attention to

[Bug 1174162] [NEW] chrome-browser makes gnome-keyring-daemon use 100% cpu

2013-04-28 Thread MNLipp
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 13.04, when starting the chromium browser, the gnome-
keyring-daemon runs at full CPU load and the chromium-browser has no
access to the stored passwords.

The issue seems to be known
(https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=98601). I'm
personally a bit surprised that Ubuntu 13.04 was released with such a
serious problem.

The frequently proposed workaround (e.g.
https://plus.google.com/110130355317073712944/posts/PckhFj5HUn4) doesn't
work because (a) there is no .gnome2/keyrings any more and (b) it's
rather inresponsible to store your passwords unencryted.

I found that killing gnome-keyring-server several times eventually gives you a
working system.

the precise test kernel from comment #177 works for me (no more constant
crashes on a core i5-based p8-h67-m pro asus motherboard).
also, ubuntu 13.04 also appears to be stable on my system, so it looks like the
ubuntu developers are doing a good job stabilizing the graphics system.
thanks!

2013-04-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
What sort of devices are you using? eject should work just fine on usb
stick? is there a real problem or just an user perception one? having
some details on what the actual problem is, if there is one, would be
useful. Eject should lead to the datas to be synced on the filesystem
before eject and so not lead to any issue with the datas...

I've been following up on this at the Lubuntu QA mailing list and it
appears that this effects both Lubuntu and Xubuntu at least as far back
as Oneiric.

I'm not suggesting that Brian change anything regarding this report yet,
but I plan on following up further in Saucy ... it's
obviously time we fix this :^)

If anyone desires they can find the Lubuntu QA discussion here:
