[Bug 1196828] Re: Cannot restart banshee after crash

2013-07-15 Thread John Reid
Thanks for the pointers. I'm pretty convinced it happens when there is a
problem with my network mounted filesystem (/etc/fstab):
//192.168.1.74/music/mnt/htpc-music   cifs
noauto,credentials=/etc/samba/user,noexec,uid=john,gid=john 0 0

The advice in the noah.org article looks good but I'm using CIFS not
NFS. Apparently CIFS mounts in a soft fashion by default. I'll have to
check my configuration. I might have a look at switching to NFS with the
soft option. Thanks a lot for all the help it is really appreciated.

2013-07-15 Thread Idr
i915.ko is the kernel driver used for all Intel GPUs. i965_dri.so is
the OpenGL driver used for all of the GPUs mentioned in this bug report
(I see Ironlake and Ivy Bridge).

I also only see one Mesa version mentioned (9.0.1), and it's quite old.
Is anyone able to reproduce this on either 9.1.4 or current master?

BTW, I'd like to open another bug for userdb-cache option, there still
are a lot of code to be disabled at compile time if build with
'--disable-userdb-cache'.

Seems it's different with #bug 15588, From the above backtrace, it fail due to
update userdb table, after #bug 15588 fixed, this can only happen if compiling
with "--disable-userdb-cache" because it still try to update userdb hash table,
this is not necessary because userdb cache disabled by user.

So here is a patch to fix it.

Dropping priority and severity since this now only happens in a non-
default compile-time configuration (you have to disable the userdb cache
explicitly).

[Bug 1201679] [NEW] ibus' Super+Space shortcut (usually) doesn't work

2013-07-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

1. Add the ubuntu-desktop PPA on Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy"
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install indicator-keyboard
2. Log out and log back in.
2. Open System Settings>Region & Language
3. Switch to the Text Entry tab.
4. Click the + button to add at least two more keyboard layouts.
5. Log out and log back in.
6. Try to use the (new) default Super+Space keyboard shortcut to switch between
keyboard layouts.

What happens
---
Usually, Super+Space is ignored. It worked for me once on login but every other
time I tested it didn't work.
It works fine in GNOME Shell but not in Unity.

gsettings reset org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys switch-input-source
seems to be enough to nudge Unity into respecting the Super+Space keyboard
shortcut.

My guess is that Unity is too aggressive in binding the Super key to
itself.

Workaround
-
Shift+Super+Space, the keyboard shortcut to switch backward between keyboard
layouts works.

[Bug 1201633] Re: no automatic reconnection when internet(nic) disconnects

2013-07-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1201633/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1201671] [NEW] HP DV6-4008TX Wireless key light constantly flashing when connected

2013-07-15 Thread Joseph Landers
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The wireless light at FN+F12 is alternating between white and orange all
the time when connected to a wireless network. When disconnected but
wireless is enabled it stays white and when wireless is disabled it
turns orange.

This behaviour doesn't seem correct.

Suggested behaviour: When wireless is enabled (i.e.
connected/disconnected but enabled) it should stay white. When wireless
is disabled it should stay orange.

Cheers,

[Bug 1201669] [NEW] mysql service unable to start via upstart script

2013-07-15 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Installed mysql-server meta package which pulled in mysql-server-5.5 and
mysql-server-core-5.5 which created both an upstart script (attached)
and a sysvinit script.

When starting mysql via the service command, the presense of the upstart
script causes that script to be used in preference of the sysvinit
script. The problem is, with the upstart script present in /etc/init,
it is impossible to start or stop the mysql service:

bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql status
status: Unknown job: mysql
bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql restart
stop: Unknown job: mysql
start: Unknown job: mysql
bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql stop
stop: Unknown job: mysql

Now, if I remove the upstart script causing service to fall back on the
sysvinit script, I am able to stop, start and do other things with the
mysql service:

bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo mv /etc/init/mysql.conf .
bladernr@klaatu:~/development/devstack$ sudo service mysql status

So the problem appears to be with the upstart job on Saucy.

I tried this also on a second machine running raring with mysql-
server-5.5 (5.5.31-0ubuntu0.13.04.1) and mysql-server-core-5.5
(5.5.31-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) and am able to successfully start and stop the
mysql service using the upstart script via service:

bladernr@garbagescow:~$ find /etc -name mysql.conf
/etc/init/mysql.conf
bladernr@garbagescow:~$ sudo service mysql restart
mysql stop/waiting
mysql start/running, process 5825

I just noticed something -- it seems to be stuck trying to write to the file in
/mnt/htpc-music. What filesystem is that mount? If it's a network mount, could
the connection have broken somehow? Are you able to access the files in
/mnt/htpc-music from something else (nautilus/mplayer/totem?).

Hmm, very weird.
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/11172/how-can-i-kill-a-defunct-process-whose-parent-is-init
seems to show a similar case, with no solution.

This is just another stab in the dark, but could you check the output of "ps -p
25995 -o stat"? If it says "Z", then it would definitely be a zombie process.
Also please try "kill -SIGCHLD 1". This shouldn't kill init, but just notify
init that there's a child process waiting for reaping.

[Bug 1200986] Re: Ubuntu live USB will not boot on Asus 1015e in UEFI mode

2013-07-15 Thread Nick B.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1123403 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1123403

I don't think this is a duplicate of #1123403. Even if I disable Secure
Boot it just hangs at a blank screen after selecting a boot option. I
don't get any errors regarding a Secure Boot Policy Violation with it
enabled so it doesn't seem to be related to Secure Boot. I am also not
able to provide any logs as I cannot even get it to boot. I'm not sure
if providing logs from a session booted with legacy BIOS support enabled
will be helpful.

[Bug 1200827] Re: Enable GOA backend

2013-07-15 Thread Jeremy Bicha
There's a new blog post about this feature:
https://debarshiray.wordpress.com/2013/07/15/gvfs-goa-volume-monitor/

Here's my third try. The difference from last time is that I'm having

dav backend.

[Bug 716324] Re: When clicking "new separator", alacarte crashed with ValueError in __positionItem(): ('Separator', ) is not in list

2013-07-15 Thread LeeU
This is a bit confusing. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which is supposed
to be supported until the middle of 2017 and is not updated with a new
LTS until the middle of 2014, yet, according to Hans (Comment #5), an
update for this problem won't be provided until the user's system is
updated to one after 12.10? I know Hans said that a backport can be
requested but there doesn't seem to be clear instructions: "Backports
are requested by filing a bug against the appropriate backports project,
as listed here" but when I click on the link this bug is not listed. In
addition, I don't have a "ubuntu-dev-tools" in the Package manager.
Plus, I want to get an update as Ubuntu states; I don't really want to
be a tester ("As backports require testing before they can be approved,
the backports team recommends that requesters of backports also test
them when possible.").

Is there really any way to obtain this fix for v. 12.04?

[Bug 1136110] Re: USB Audio Codec choppy playback

2013-07-15 Thread Toby Corkindale
Hi Alan, Tyson,
I agree, my comment about this issue being a regression is definitely
incorrect, and it's some kind of other issue.

However it is interesting that the symptoms I received really were identical to
those presented by the original bug.
It sounds like there's a bug somewhere else that ends up trashing the async
transfers. Ah well, for now I just know to disconnect the hub if it happens
again.

Cheers,
Toby

[Bug 1071905] Re: ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed.

2013-07-15 Thread Forest
Confirming what Christopher wrote in comment 8: The problem seems to be
that apport-cli is now a python3 program, but python-launchpadlib has
not been ported to python3. Therefore, it fails.

The workarounds posted so far do not work on raring.

This makes it rather difficult for users to gather system information
for bug reports. I would think fixing it would be a high priority.

[Bug 1201633] [NEW] no automatic reconnection when internet(nic) disconnects

2013-07-15 Thread Ben Navak
Public bug reported:

uname -a #
Linux ben-Z68XP-UD3R 3.8.0-26-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 17 21:46:08 UTC
2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I've installed Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 Raring Ringtail a few days ago and
decided to upgrade to Gnome 3.8 in 13.04, and did with no problems at
all and am now running with the Gnome Classic session. In the past few
days I've started noticing my wireless connection will drop out randomly
every few minutes, varying between 10m, 30m, sometimes it stays good for
>1hr and then disconnects. (Note: my connection only disconnects, my
router stays stable and connected to my ISP). When this happens I check
to see if my SSID is still broadcasting (sudo iwlist scanning #) which
it is and wait for my wireless to reconnect, but nothing happens. In
order for me to get connected to my gateway again I must click the
Wireless notification in the top right, turn Wifi OFF then ON (so my
SSID reappears) and only then will be connected automatically. Also
clicking 'Network Settings' under the Wiressless Notification does
nothing, just makes the menu close.

Within 'Network Connections' under the General tab for my SSID I have
both "Automatically connect to this network when its available" and "All
users may connect to this network" CHECKED/TICKED and saved.

As you are probably aware, this problem is very inconvenient when
downloading large files (ie; torrents) and being away from the computer.

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

edit: I've currently been connected to my gateway (and the www) for
about 2 hours now, this is just to tell you that the drop outs aren't
always as frequent as I stated above. There is 'some' stability'.
