Public bug reported: With the latest Saucy, LXC containers don't seem to have their network setting configured correctly. I've tried this with both containers created before I upgraded to Saucy, and containers freshly created after the upgrade. In both cases, the guest user-space is 12.04. After the container has started I try to find the address, but it fails: $ host precise 10.0.3.1 Using domain server: Name: 10.0.3.1 Address: 10.0.3.1#53 Aliases: Host precise not found: 2(SERVFAIL) Looking in the syslog reveals that it did try to obtain an address, and dnsmasq did try to serve one (I think). This is caused to a kernel change in saucy related to udp checksum offloading. I changed isc-dhcp in all currently supported releases to fix that specific issue, so if your precise container was up to date, you wouldn't have the problem. I really have no good ideas on how to do this. The simplist solution I think woudl be to have a tool like: dhcp-advertize-hostname --interface=eth0 --hostname=foo and just invoke it. That tool would just do a dhcp request with the hostname set. I'm just not familiar enough with how dhcp works to say if we can actually do that or not. It seems at very least that we'd risk invalidating the lease. This was a patch cherry-picked from upstream 1.8.0 release which
can now be dropped as Debian has recently released 1.10.
