Thanks Marcus! I was working on updating libgphoto2 to 2.5.2, I just got the package ready. That involves ABI changes to libgphoto2 and -port and thus requires some rebuilds and possibly some porting of reverse dependencies. [Bug 1206777] Re: tar.gunzip.formerfbi.military.pentagonmerk.org.cia
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Bug 1206204] Re: gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in libusb_get_bus_number()

[Bug 1206756] Re: attempting to change session changes user instead
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1206756/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 528094] Re: lock screen fails with xscreensaver
Here is a workaround. Works with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 32 bits. Using Ubuntu Software Center or Terminal, install xscreensaver-gl-extra and xscreensaver-data-extra Click OK to both prompts asking to turn-off Gnome Daemon and to start xscreensaver-daemon respectively. If you want to manually lock the screen with the keyboard combination CTRL+ALT+L then you will need to run the following to repoint the old gnome-screensaver lock to xscreensaver: sudo ln -s /usr/bin/xscreensaver-command /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver- command Logout or restart for all changes to take effect. CTRL+ALT+L usually works without restart. [Bug 1206760] [NEW] Zenity text windows too tall with long text
Public bug reported: It seems that with many versions of zenity 3.60 and below, 3 of the text type dialogs ( --info --warning --error ) have significant sizing issues with text wrapping enabled. Long strings of text seem to cause extreemly tall dialogs such as this first example zenity --info --text " Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas" one workaround might be to turn off wrapping zenity --info --text " Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas" --no-wrap but this can cause dialogs to be too large vertically I noticed that by forcing the minimal width as so, (I pass 1, but it seems that zenity uses a hardcoded minimum) zenity --info --text " Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas" --width=1 the height of the dialog seems to be the same as the first example. However, with the skinny dialog, the full dialog is used, and the text is wrapped much better. Therefore, my guess is that when text wrapping is enabled (which it is by default) for --info --warning and --error Zenity is wrapping the text with the hardcoded minimal width, and calculating the needed height for wrapping the text with the minimal width. However, zenity usually later on uses a different much wider width when the dialog is displayed, which therefore causes the text wrapping to use less height. However zenity still ends up setting the height of the window to what it would need to be to fit the text if the window was the minimal width, in cases causing excessivly large and tall zenity windows. This is just my guess from what I can see. dialogs with --question seem to be sized a bit more sanely. ** Affects: zenity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1206760 Title: Zenity text windows too tall with long text To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zenity/+bug/1206760/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1206746] Re: ptrace shows esi mutation across pread64 and pwrite64 syscalls
I should add one more but on information: the pwrite64_testcase.c includes three statements for executing the pwrite64 syscall #if 0 nr = pwrite(fd, content, sizeof(content), 10); nr = syscall(SYS_pwrite64, fd, content, sizeof(content), 10, 0); #endif __asm__ __volatile__("int $0x80" : "=a"(nr) : "0"(SYS_pwrite64), "b"(fd), "c"(content), "d"(sizeof(content)), "S"(10), "D"(0)); The same result is seen with all three calls. The first two should end up using the |systenter| entry point in the VDSO. The third uses the old-fashioned entry point. [Bug 1206746] [NEW] ptrace shows esi mutation across pread64 and pwrite64 syscalls
Public bug reported: NB: filing this kernel bug against Canonical because the 3.5.0 kernel isn't officially suported upstream [1]. == Steps to reproduce == 0. Follow these steps on an *x86* installation; *not* x86-64. 1. Download the first attachment "Small test case ..." as pwrite64_testcase.c 2. Download the second attachment "ptrace tracer ..." as regtrace.c 3. Compile both files $ gcc -g -o pwrite64_testcase pwrite64_testcase.c $ gcc -g -o regtrace regtrace.c 4. Verify the files were compiled correctly $ file regtrace You should see output like regtrace: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386... 5. Run the command $ ./regtrace ./pwrite64_testcase | grep -A1 181: == Expected behavior == Step (5) above should print output that looks something like 181: eax:0xffda ebx:0x3 ecx:0xff9cde0f edx:0x19 [-->]esi:0xa edi:0x0 ebp:0xff9cde48 eip:0x80486f5 181: eax:0x19 ebx:0x3 ecx:0xff9cde0f edx:0x19 [-->]esi:0xa edi:0x0 ebp:0xff9cde48 eip:0x80486f5 Notice the "esi:..." values, marked with "[-->]", are both "0xa" in both the entry and exit trace line. == Actual behavior == Step (5) produces output that looks like 181: eax:0xffda ebx:0x4 ecx:0xb60a edx:0x19 [-->]esi:0xa edi:0x0 ebp:0xb658 eip:0x80488c5 181: eax:0x19 ebx:0x4 ecx:0xb60a edx:0x19 [-->]esi:0x23 edi:0x0 ebp:0xb658 eip:0x80488c5 Notice that the "esi:..." values are *NOT* the same: in the entry trace line, esi is "0xa" (the correct value). But in the exit trace line, esi is "0x23" (INCORRECT). == Brief description == The regtrace.c program dumps its tracee's registers at all syscall entry and exits. Per the kernel ABI, all register values *except* eax (return value) are preserved across syscall entry/exit. The pwrite64_testcase.c program uses the pwrite64 and pread64 syscalls in a very basic manner. The symptom is that the regtrace program seems to show a violation of the kernel ABI, as described above: the esi value (as reported by ptrace) changes across syscall entry/exit. This could either be a ptrace bug, or a bug somewhere else in the kernel, but to userspace the symptom looks the same. Three kernel builds were tested. Interestingly, the kernel only appears in an x86 kernel. * x86, 3.5.0-36: *SHOWS* the bug * x86-64, 3.5.0-36: does *NOT* show the bug * x86-64, 3.9.11: does *NOT* show the bug If it helps clarify the nature of the bug, here's a patch that was landed to work around it https://github.com/mozilla/rr/commit/0d585a0242d8771b7830621ff82abf75976b743b == System and package information == $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release:12.04 $ apt-cache policy linux-image-3.5.0-36-generic linux-image-3.5.0-36-generic: Installed: 3.5.0-36.57~precise1 Candidate: 3.5.0-36.57~precise1 Version table: *** 3.5.0-36.57~precise1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 42 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz [1] https://www.kernel.org/ ** Affects: linux-lts-quantal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Small test case that invokes pwrite64 and pread64" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1206746/+attachment/3755389/+files/pwrite64_testcase.c -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1206746 Title: ptrace shows esi mutation across pread64 and pwrite64 syscalls To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-quantal/+bug/1206746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
